Mamie Belle McCurry, 83 of Burnsville, NC, died October 18, 2015 at her home in Asheville, NC after a short battle with cancer.

She was the daughter of the late Alfred Hicks McCourry and Carrie Webb McCourry. She was preceded in death by a sister Enlala McCourry, three brothers Zack Mccurry, Lloyd McCurry, and Ellis "Bud" McCurry, and a son Richard Eugene "Pudge" McCurry.

Surviving are one son Alfred McCurry of Asheville, NC and a daughter Norma McCracken and husband John of Burnsville, NC. Two grandchildren Joseph McCurry of Clemson, SC and Valerie Mcelrath of Candler, NC, and three great grandchildren.

She has requested to be cremated and no service to be held.

Mozella Hoilman Burks, age 85, of Michigan, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018 in Southgate, MI.

A native of Erwin, Mozella is a daughter of the late Bascom Boyd and Myrtle Marie (McCurry) Hoilman. She was a Teamster for Pepsi Cola Company and enjoyed crafts and sewing. In addition to her parents, Mozella is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie Burks, Jr. and four brothers, Ronald, Uvaughn, Harold and Michael Hoilman.

Mozella Hoilman Burks has left behind to cherish her memory: Daughter: Pat Raths and husband, Floyd; Sons: Djerl Shultz and wife, Anita, Dennis Burks and wife, Tami; Sisters: June Crouch and husband, Clyde, Doris Riddle and husband, Gary; Shirley Garland and husband, Gerald, Judy Wyant and husband, Ron, Gail Lamb; Brothers: Douglas Hoilman and wife, Ann, Donald Hoilman; Four grandchildren; Several great-grandchildren; Numerous nieces and nephews; Special nephew: Michael Hoilman.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Mozella Hoilman Burks in a funeral service to be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, July 7, 2018 in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Bishop John Edwards will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until service time on Saturday. A graveside committal service will follow the 12:00 PM funeral service in Evergreen Cemetery.

JOHNSON CITY - Richard Wayne “Dick” Brumit, 75, of Johnson City, died Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Johnson City, son of the late R. D. Sr. and Ailene McCurry Brumit.

Richard was an active partner in The Brumit Company. The Brumit Company a real estate leasing and development firm has been in the East Tennessee area for the past 30 years. In his earlier years, Richard was active in the family business operating supermarkets and convenience stores.

In addition to his parents, a niece Leanna Stump also preceded him in death.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, R. D. “Bob” Brumit, Jr. and Phyllis B. of Johnson City, a niece and her husband, Jessica B. and Hunter Burleson of Piney Flats. His sister, Rebecca Brumit Watson and niece, Emily Watson, nephew and his wife, Evan D. and Taylor Wyatt Watson all of Lawton, OK; several cousins.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 19, 2020 from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, a funeral service will follow in the Oak Chapel at 4:00 pm under the direction of Rev. Jim Cambron and Evan D. Watson. A committal service will be conducted in the Monte Vista Memorial Park on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 11:00 am. Family and friends are asked to assemble by 10:50 am. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Mary Frances McCurry Ayers passed away at her residence on August 15, 2018 after a brief illness.

"Frances" was born on December 18, 1926 and was a life-long resident of Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Georgie McCurry Garland and step-father, Vallee B. Garland. Also preceding her in death were her son-in-law, Dr. Fuad Ibrahim; Brothers; Jay, Jack and James; Sister; June McCurry Britt and nephew, Danny McCurry.

Her life's greatest accomplishment was the 72- year marriage to her surviving husband, James. She received much joy from her loving children, Mary Lynn Ayers-Ibrahim of Prescott, Arizona and son, Larry C. Ayers of Tucson, Arizona.

In addition to her children, she leaves behind her grandchildren, Jennifer Ayers Hopper (J.R.) of Phoenix, Arizona and grandson, Gregory T. Ayers (April) of Charlotte, North Carolina. Her great-grandchildren loved their "mam-maw". She was simply "the best" to Landry, Caden, Tanner and Mason Ayers all of Charlotte, N.C. and Adriana, Caitlin and Wesley Hopper of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by a half- brother, Harold Garland of Unicoi and sister-in-law Ruth McCurry of Johnson City. Special Nieces, Gail Hicks, Jawina Fagan, Cindy Ayers, Linda Smith, Lisa Shepherd, Lea Ford, Bobbye Webb and Elaine Burleson. Special Nephews, Kent Ayers, Jimmy Ayers, Gary McCurry and Terry McCurry. And a very special and loving friend of over 70 years, Evelyn Williams.

Frances was the strong matriarch of the Ayers family. She was always available to listen and give objective advice when needed. She was kind and compassionate and hoped that everyone would love and be respectful of one another. She will definitely be the keeper of the gardens in heaven. She loved her flower gardens and every flower, plant and tree thrived in her care. She enjoyed cooking and loved cooking for her family and friends. She attended Otterbein United Methodist Church. Her faith was very important to her and she loved her church and her church family.

The celebration of life service will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Tetrick Funeral Services in Johnson City. The receiving of friends will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A committal service to follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

UNICOI - Brenda Kay Hoilman, age 60, passed away on September 11, 2019, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was born and raised in Erwin, TN. Brenda was a beautiful person inside and out. She loved her precious dog Toby, hummingbirds, and the University of Tennessee Volunteers.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs., Ronald Lewis Hoilman; and her brother Mike Hoilman. She will be remembered as a shining light to those of us that knew her in the community.

Brenda's close friends, Nick and Kelly Senn, are planning a Celebration of Life service in her honor..

UNICOI - Terry Ray McCurry, 65, of Unicoi, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Terry was born in Johnson City and a son of the late Jay and Ruth Ayers McCurry. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Danny McCurry. He is survived by his brother Gary McCurry and wife Cindy of Jonesborough; 2 sisters Gail Hicks and husband Bill and Jawina Fagan both of Johnson City; a sister-in-law Kim McCurry; an Uncle Jim Ayers; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral service will be conducted Sunday, July 21, 2019 at 2:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Tony Trott officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 P.M. A graveside committal service will follow the funeral in Monte Vista Memorial Park.
