    Lt. Col. Louis McElroy - ELIZABETHTON
    ELIZABETHTON - Lt. Col. Louis H. "Mac" McElroy, USAF (Retired), age 72, 419 West F. Street, Elizabethton, died Thursday, January 12, 2006, at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Asheville, NC, living in Elizabethton since 1992, he was the son of the late Louis H. McElroy Sr. and Frances Brackett McElroy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Edward McElroy. Mr. McElroy was an active member of First United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the USAF, retiring after forty years of service and he served during the Korean conflict. He was in the honor guard six years under President Dwight D. Eisenhower's administration. He was an active member of the Elizabethton Chamber of Commerce, the Elizabethton Kiwanis Club and a former Chaplain of the Captain Lynn H. Folsom, VFW Post #2166. Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Barbara Heaton McElroy, of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law: Pamala and Eric Litz, Tallassee, FL, and Debra McElroy, Boston, MA; three granddaughters: Amy Litz and husband, Scott Lato, Tallassee, FL, Rebecca Litz, Atlanta, GA, and Grace McElroy, Boston, MA; one sister, Dorothy Sanders, Hendersonville, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive. A celebration of life service for Mr. McElroy will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 15, 2006, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Buford Hankins officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 PM Sunday prior to the service or at the residence 419 West F. Street at anytime. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Eric Lutz, Scott Lato, Richard Estep, Greg Bowers, Jerry Cannon and Jason Cannon. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Holden, Don Tetrick, Dr. Jonathan Bremer, Dr. Jeff Farrow, Jeff Fenvyus, Richard Grindstaff, Dr. Theodore Bouchard and many other special friends.

    Louis married Barbara Heaton about 1953. Barbara (daughter of Earl L. Estep and Dencie Irene Heaton) was born about 1933 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 11 Oct 2010 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Happy Valley Memorial Park, , Carter County, Tennessee.
