ELIZABETHTON — Eva Hyder Casey, 78, formerly of 100 Daytona Place, Elizabethton, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday May 17, 2011, at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness.

She was a native of Carter County and the youngest of eleven children born to Nat & Ethel Woodby Hyder. Mrs. Casey was a 1951 graduate of Hampton High School and loved to keep in touch with her classmates.

She had lived in Michigan for a number of years. She retired in 1992 from the Michigan School System where she worked in the cafeteria. She was a member of the Oak Street Baptist Church.

Mrs. Casey enjoyed going out to eat with friends, listening to live music and laughing with her many friends at the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed life and always had a smile for everyone.

Mrs. Casey was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Casey, Sept. 1999; four brothers, Don Hyder, Sept. 1997, Carl Hyder, April 1998, Nathan Hyder, October 2002, and Leonard Hyder, Nov. 2004; one sister, Vernie Stevens, Oct. 2004; a sister-in-law, Violet Casey Price, June 2004; and five infant brothers and sisters.

Survivors include a son, Paul Casey, of Watauga; a special niece, Lenora Hyder Wiseman and her husband, Buddy, of Hampton; a special nephew, Richard Hyder and his wife, Carol Ann, of Elizabethton; a sister-in-law: Vergie Hyder, of Adrian, Michigan; Her caregivers: Barbara Fox, Patti Nave, Sandra Hardin, of Elizabethton, and Ashley Townson, of Roan Mountain; Also several other nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Hendrich officiating.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 12 Noon Thursday in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Will Andrews officiating. Active Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be all the caregivers that gave such loving care to Eva during her illness, special friends: Becky Yates Proffitt and Carter County Bank, Hampton High School 1951 classmates and her church family at Oak Street Baptist Church.

The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the Hermitage Health Center for all their excelled care of Eva.

HAMPTON — Aillen Woodby McKinney, 90, Hampton, went to be with the Lord and her husband on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at her residence.

Aileen was born in Relief, North Carolina the daughter of the late Oscar & Lydia Miller Woodby. She had lived in Carter County for 80 years.

She was an active member of the Simerly Creek Believers Fellowship Church.

Aillen was a retired employee of Hillview Nursing Home after 36 years of service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Byrl McKinney; three brothers, Emmert, Hayes and Clayton Woodby; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon McKinney.

Survivors include her children, daughter & son-in-law, Sharon Emmett and husband Larry, Elizabethton; son, Larry McKinney and Fran Weddle, Hampton and son & daughter-in-law, Sam McKinney and wife Patricia, Hampton. One Grandson: Todd McKinney. Two Granddaughters: Julie and husband Vaughn Simerly, Jr., Hampton, and Lori Watson and husband Ben, Elizabethton. Two Great Grandchildren: Justin Simerly, Hampton, and Loren Watson, Elizabethton. Sisters: Avenell Arnett, Jean & Rev. Clarence Phillip, Hampton. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2015, in McKinney Cemetery. Music will be by the Simerly Creek Believers Fellowship Church Quartet.

HAMPTON, TN - Conley Woodby, 89, Hampton, September 13, 2021 went home to be with his Lord, and be reunited with Mary Sue Woodby, his wife of 68 years, who preceded him in death, August 11, 2020. He was the son of the late Oscar & Lydia Miller Woodby. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Hayes, Emmett and Clayton Woodby and sisters: Avanell Arnett and Aileen McKinney. Con was an avid bear hunter, he loved being in the woods with his friends. He will be missed by all of his family and friends.

Survivors include: Daughter: Katherine (David) Nidiffer, Sons: Bruce (Evelyn) Woodby, Terry Woodby, Jim Woodby and James Woodby. Myrtle Mae “Ma” Roberts, 98, Elizabethton, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 9, 2023, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was born July 17, 1924 in Unicoi County to the late David and Mary Campbell Sneyd. Myrtle was employed with the Carter County School System for several years as a cook. She loved to quilt, crochet and work in her garden. She was a member of Lyons Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Larn Ray Roberts; a daughter, Frankie Elsie Hubbard and husband Alfred; a grandson, Jeff Hubbard; a great-grandson, Cody Roberts; and 11 brothers and sisters. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Linda Roberts, of the home; three grandchildren, Mark Roberts and wife Karen, Carl Roberts Jr. “CJ” and wife Daphanie, and Karen Conner and husband Rick; eight great-grandchildren, Mike Coleman and wife Eve, Luke Roberts, Jasper Roberts, Emery Roberts, Grayson Coleman, Kandi Hubbard, Brandi Hubbard and Kayla Yelton and husband Wesley; and three great-great-grandchildren, Kennedy Hubbard, Dalton Beam and Hunter Hubbard. Carl was born in Unicoi, TN and raised in Limestone Cove. He worked multiple jobs but retired from the City of Johnson City. Carl attended Rich Acres Freewill Baptist Church.
Carl was preceded in death by many brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Sneyd; sons, Kyle and wife Barbara, David and wife Amy; grandchildren, Joshua, Heath and wife Christina, Kelby and fiancée Brittney Birchfield; great-grandchildren, Aislynn and Mikaela Sciubba; sister, Myrtle Roberts; special friends, Robin Young, Robin Davis, Justin Alley, Lisa Oakes; several nieces and nephews.

UNICOI - Virginia Lee “Ginny” Garland, age 81, Unicoi, passed away Saturday March 6, 2021 at Center on Aging. She was a life-long resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Hunter and Mamie Woodby Garland.

Ginny retired from Levi-Straus after many years of service. She enjoyed watching soap operas, and listening to country music, especially her favorite singer, Charlie Pride. When she was younger, she loved to go shopping. Ginny attended Marbleton Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: James, Charles, and Clyde Garland; four sisters: Kathleen “Kat” Harvey, Florence Cooper, Doris Edwards, and Hazel Wilson.

Ginny leaves behind to cherish her memory, four sisters: Betty Raby of Johnson City, Gladys Osborne and husband, Carrick “Tic”, Wanda Miller all of Unicoi, Carolyn Garland of Jonesborough; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all Ginny’s caregivers at the Center on Aging.

Graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday March11, 2021 in the Roselawn Memory Gardens. Dr. Koby Strawser will officiate. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
