ELIZABETHTON — Gladys Hazel Peeks, 91, formally of Elizabethton, TN, went to be with our Lord on August 21, 2015, at her home in East Bend, NC.

She was born on January 17, 1924, to the late Frank Russell and Allie Edith Calloway.

She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband William (Bill) Edgar Peeks; her daughter, Emma Lee Stanber; her grandson, William (Dusty) Stewart; two brothers, Sgt. Junior R. Calloway and Paul R. Calloway; one sister, Carrie Dunn Carley and other family members.

Gladys is survived by two daughters Shirley (Hubert) Stanbery, Clemmons, Billie Joyce (Alan) Hill, East Bend, one son Eddie (Sandy) Peeks, Clemmons, and a loving son-in-law Howard Stanbery, Shady Valley, TN, one granddaughter, seven grandsons, seven great-grandsons, six great-granddaughters, one great-great-granddaughter, and a special family friend Nicholas D'Amato.

Gladys is also survived by two sisters, Ina Mae Campbell and Charlotte (Herman) Crumley, Elizabethton, TN; and one aunt, Mary Bowers, Elizabethton, TN, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2015, at Huff Funeral Home, and will follow with the Celebration and Memory Service at 4 p.m.

Internment will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, TN on Monday, August 24, 2015, at 1 p.m. with Herman Crumley officiating.

Buried:
Charlotte Geneva Calloway Crumley, 83, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at her daughter’s residence. Charlotte was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Frank Russell Calloway and Allie Edith Bowers Calloway. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reverend Herman Rhea Crumley; two sisters, Gladys Peeks and Carrie Carley; and two brothers, Junior Calloway and Paul Calloway.
Charlotte was a member of Doe River Baptist Church, where she served as the organist. She was the matriarch and rock of the family and was a wonderful homemaker who loved to keep house. Her home was always spotless! Charlotte was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and she loved music and playing instruments, talking and socializing with her family and friends. She also enjoyed making no bake cookies for her family and special friends and always had a smile on her face, she literally never met a stranger.
Charlotte is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Marcella Mullins of Elizabethton, Betty and Tim Mason of Knoxville and Misty Crowe of Elizabethton; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery Lynn Crumley and wife Michelle of Butler; and special grandchildren, Madison and Mariah Crowe of Elizabethton; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one special sister, Ina Mae Stanbery Campbell of Elizabethton.
A service to celebrate and honor the life of Charlotte Geneva Crumley will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 19, in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Reverend Daniel Fink officiating. Music will be under the direction of Joey Cole and Morgan Arrowood. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 until 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Family and friends may also visit the home of her daughter, Marcella Mullins, 100 Daytona Place, Apt. 1, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, August 20, in the Wilson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charlotte’s grandchildren.

Mrs. Grace B. Joseph, 71, Hathburn Drive, Rockwood, Tenn., died Wednesday, September 27, 2000, at Roane Medical Center.
Mrs. Joseph was an employee of Gateway Cleaners and a member of Asbury Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Kate Bowers, a brother, Carl Bowers, and a sister, Ruth Taylor.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Benny T. and Karen Joseph, Kingston; two daughters, Susan J. Bowen, Techachapi, Calif., and Terri J. Jackson, Harriman; grandchildren, Jason and Justin Joseph, Amanda and Rebecca Bowen, Edgar Hunt Jr. and Samantha Jackson; three brothers, Floyd Bowers, Filmore Bowers and Charles Bowers, all of Elizabethton; two sisters, Effie Buckles, Elizabethton, and Wanda Bise, Hampton; and a special friend, Owen Gibson, Oak Ridge.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, September 29, in the Bowers Cemetery in Elizabethton.

Floyd "Tete" Bowers, 75, formerly of 1721 Hwy. 91, Elizabeton, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at Life Care Center of Elizabeton following an extended illness.

Mr. Bowers was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Horace and Kate Williams Bowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Bowers Joseph and Ruth Bowers, and a grandson, Daniel Cambell.

Mr. Bowers was a member of Hunter First Batist Church. He retired from Ford Motor Company and had been a car dealer in Elizabethton.

Survivors, include his wife Barbara Bowers, two daughters, Sherry D. Campbell, of the home, and Julie Yankee, Elizabeton; four grandchildren, Tony Taylor, Jaclyn Campbell, Jessie Cowden, and Savannah Yankee, all of Elizabeton; a great grandchild, Makayla Taylor; two brothers, Charles Junior Bowers and Philmore Bowers, both of Elizabeton; and 2 sisters, Wanda Bice [of] Hampton, and Effie Buckles, Elizabeton.

The funeral services for Mr. Bowers will be conducted at 7 p. m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Estep officiateing. The family will recieve friends at the funeral home from 5 untill 7 PM Thursday, prior to the Service. The Graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Happy Valley Memorial Park.
