    R.D. Campbell, age 90 of 821 R.D. Campbell Road, Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday December 19, 2013, at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton, Tennessee. R.D. was born on May 26, 1923, to Burson Campbell and Arizona Smith Campbell in Doeville, Tennessee. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife: Wilma Stansberry Campbell; as well as three sisters: Lena Arnold, Laura Fritts and Ena Elliott; a brother, Guy Campbell; and a great great grandchild, Tracy Potter. He was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church, where he held the titles of Deacon, Choir Director, Church Clerk, Church Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher as well as Vacation Bible School Director and Teacher. He graduated from Watauga Academy in Old Butler in 1943. R.D. was a member of the Jericho Shrine Temple in Kingsport, TN, and the Johnson County Shrine Club and was a member of the Roan Creek Masonic Lodge #679 for 64 years. Mr. Campbell taught in the Johnson County School System for over 31 years at various schools and was a principal and teacher for more than 23 years. He held several County positions in Johnson County including, Justice of the Peace, County Court Magistrate for 18 years, Chairman and Vice Chairman of the County Court, County Executive, Probate Judge and Juvenile Judge. He was a member of the board of director's first Tennessee/Virginia development board, where he was chairman 5 years and vice chairman 1 year and on the Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency for 15 years. He was on the Tri State Grower's board of directors for 33 years. Survivors include; Daughter, Maxine Carter and husband, Ken, Kingsport, TN; Son, Dean Campbell and Wife, Jean, Butler, TN; Grandchildren, Beverly Potter and husband, Jr., LaPlata, Md., Herman Dean (Buzz) Campbell and wife, Linda, Mountain City, TN, Renee Cook and Husband, Russell, Braselton, Ga.; Great Grandchildren, Elizabeth Miller and Husband, Shane, Johnson City, TN, Tabitha and William Potter, of LaPlata, MD, Cheyenne Campbell, Mountain City, TN, Reagan and Camden Cook, Braselton, GA; Great Grandchild, Ryanne Miller, Johnson City, TN; Special friends, George Walker, Jim Hutchinson and Wanda Casteel. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for R.D. Campbell will be conducted on Saturday December 21, 2013, at 8 p.m. in the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Wilson and Rev. Roy Wilson to officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Pallbearers will be: All Masons of all Lodges. Honorary Pallbearers are: Bob Graybeal, Bill Murphy, Bob Regan, Dr. Don Tarr, Dr. Raina Sluder, Dr. Martin Tran and Employees of Life Care Center of Elizabethton, TN. Masonic graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2013, in the Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Betty Jo Bowers, age 80, of Oak Ridge, went to be with the Lord July 20, 2021. She was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church where she was very involved with the children’s ministry and food pantry. Betty graduated from Johnson County High School in 1959 where she was a majorette. After graduating she attended nursing school in Banner Elk, NC becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. Nursing was her passion, inspiring her daughter and granddaughter to follow in her footsteps and pursue a career in nursing as well. Betty met her husband, Walter “Gus” Bowers in Banner Elk. They were married November 1961 and lived in Hampton, VA, later settling in Oak Ridge. Once there, Betty worked at Methodist Medical Center and West Mall Nursing Home before retiring from the Family Clinic after 34 years with them. She was a member of the Pilot Club of Oak Ridge for many years. One of Betty’s interests was traveling. She and Gus saw much of the Western United States together. She loved UT football. They always had season tickets and traveled to many bowl games. She also loved reading and was a frequent patron of the Oak Ridge Public Library. Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Laura Fritts. Survivors include husband of 60 years, Walter R. “Gus” Bowers; daughter, Cynthia Zoladz and husband, Joseph; grandchildren, Sara and Tyler Zoladz; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth & Brock; brothers, Paul Fritts and wife, Judy, and Jim Fritts; and nephews, Steve and Brian Fritts. Betty loved to give to others and help those in need. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice.

    Paul Fritts, Jr. age 72, went to be with the Lord on November 14, 2021. He was a member of Limestone Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a trustee for many years. He was very active in the church helping with the youth, the high school Sunday School class, and annual Youth Retreats. He graduated from Johnson County High School in 1966. After graduation, Paul went to work for Pharmaseal Laboratory where he was a supervisor. Then he was called to serve his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and served a tour of duty in the Vietnam War where he earned the Bronze Star. Later, his work called him to be a supervisor of Environmental Services at the Veterans Hospital where he worked until his retirement. He loved fishing at the “BigRock,” UT football and helping “his boys.” Most of all he loved God’s word.
    He was a very loving husband, father, and Papaw to his family. He will be greatly missed.
    He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Paul Fritts, Sr. and Laura Campbell Fritts; his sister, whom he loved very much, Betty Jo Bowers.
    He is survived by his wife, Judy Bailey Fritts; two sons, Paul Steven Fritts and wife Scarlett and Brian David Fritts and wife Melissa; six grandchildren, Matthew, Jeremiah, Emily, Journee, Alexis and Nevaeh Fritts; Brother, whom he loved so much, Jim Fritts and wonderful in laws and their families, his loving Church family and friends, and special grand dog “Gizmo.”

    The family would like to thank Ms. Kim Hoyle and Dr. Tumker and the caring staff of the TN Cancer Center for all their care. Dr. Tran and all the doctors and nurses who cared for him at Johnson City Medical Center.
    The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5 – 7 pm at Limestone Free Will Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 7 pm with Rev. David Reece, Rev. Tim Roach, Rev. Tim Broyles and Rev. Gary Gentry officiating.
    Pallbearers are Larry McNeese, Patrick Phillips, Matthew Fritts, Jeremiah Fritts, Dennis Ledford, Roger Dickerson, Junior Fox, and Randy Bailey.
    Honorary pallbearers are Jim Fritts, Gus Bowers, David Bailey and Charlie Phillips.
    The graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11 am at Limestone Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Dean Campbell age 69, of RD Campbell Road passed away unexpectedly March 7, 2018. He was born on August 22nd, 1948 to the late R.D. Campbell and Wilma Stansberry Campbell.In addition to his parents he was preceded by a grandchild, Tracy Potter. He enjoyed watching Nascar, Tennessee Volunteers football, and was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was caretaker of the Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery for many years as well as a deacon and Sunday school super attendant. He was a member of the Roan Creek Masonic Lodge 679 F & AM, the Johnson County Shrine Club and the Jerico Temple. He was instrumental in the operation of the Johnson County Masonic Shoe Program. He was District Deputy Chairman for District 24 of Grand Lodge F & AM of Tennessee.

    Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years Jean Lunceford Campbell, his daughter Beverly Potter of La Plata, MD. His son Buzz Campbell of Butler. His sister Maxine Carter of Atlanta, GA. His four grandchildren Elizabeth Miller, Tabitha Potter, Cheyenne Campbell, and William Potter. His two great grandchildren Ryanne Miller and Charleigh Miller. Along with several nieces and nephews.
