    MILLARD GARFIELD HODGE
    Millard Garfield Hodge died at his home at Shouns, after an illness of 18 months.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the home, in charge of Rev. Howard Reese and Rev. Laurence Trivette. Burial will be made in the family cemetery.
    Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Bessie Hodge, one son, Edgar Hodge; two grandchildren: Mary Lou and George Hodge; two brothers: Boone Hodge and A. L. Hodge, and three sisters: Mrs. Tolly[sic] May and Mrs. Lula Dunne of Trade, and Mrs. Maggie Maines of Shouns.

    Boone F. Hodge, age 81, Oxford, Pa., died in Cannon Memorial Hospital, Banner Elk, N.C., Sunday at 8:45 a.m. after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Johnson County, but had made his home in Oxford for the past 12 years. He was a retired farmer and member of the Christian Church.
    Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Annie V. Hodge, Oxford, Pa.; a son, William S. Hodge, Uniontown, Pa.; five daughters, Mrs. Claude Graybeal, Pecopson, Pa., Mrs. Gale Graybeal, Oxford, Pa., Mrs. James Grindstaff, West Grove, Pa., Mrs. James Jones, Oxford, Pa., and Mrs. Ned Rhead, Summerville, S.C.; a brother, Lincoln Hodge, Mountain City; two sisters, Mrs. Garfield May, Trade; Mrs. Charles Dunn, Mountain City; 12 grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be conducted today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church with H.T. Mabry and Rev. A.E. Browne to officiate. Burial will be in Reece Cemetery, Trade.
    Lewis Gentry Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

    Abraham Lincoln Hodge, age 74 of Mountain City died in Cannon Memorial Hospital, Banner Elk, N.C. Saturday at 10:55 p.m. after a 10-week illness. He was a native of Johnson County, son of the late Washington and Mary Mains Hodge; a farmer and businessman, a former (12 years) tax assessor of Johnson County; former school teacher and former member of the Johnson County Board of Education. He was a member of the First Christian Church.
    Survivors include[sic] the wife, Mrs. Clara A. Hodge, Mountain City; two sons, Gar Hodge and Sam Hodge, both Mountain City; five daughters, Venia Hodge, Faye Hodge, Mrs. Shirley Farmer, all Mountain City, Mrs. Bessie Jackson, Mrs. Pauline Slaughter, both Bristol; two sisters, Mrs. Pollie May, Trade, Mrs. Lucille Dunn, Mountain City; seven grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
    Funeral services conducted on Tuesday at the First Christian Church with H.T. Mabry and Rev. A.E. Brown officiating[sic]. The burial was in Sunset Memorial Park.
    Pallbearers were Grady May, Butler Pennington, Ray May, Edd Hodge, Ode May, Joe Eller and Dick Mains. Flower bearers were ladies of the church and neighbors.

    Cripple Held For Slaying Johnson Man - Claims Neighbor Invaded Home And Threatened Death.
    Mountain City, Feb. 14 - Sheriff J. T. Greever stated this morning that Clarence Potter, 55, crippled, was being held in jail this morning on charge of murdering Stacy Roark, 50, his neighbor at the Potter home in the third district.
    Although details of the shooting were not known, Potter claimed that he shot in self-defense when Roark and two other men broke down the door to his home as he lay asleep and threatened to shoot him. Roark was shot with a 12-guage shot gun, the charge entering his left side.
    Roark lived about an hour after being shot but died before the doctor arrived, it was reported. Two men with Roark made their escape and are not known, it was said.
    Potter said he could no reason for Roark's action. It was not known whether Roark was really armed or not. Trial for Potter has been set before Magistrate T. A. Wills for next Saturday.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hayden Farmer.

    Della Rae was employed at IRC/TRW in Boone, NC for over 25 years. Like many among her generation, she was a wonderful homemaker, gardener, and cook. She was well known for making cheese and took orders from all across the region. She was a member of Trade Methodist Church.

    Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Patsy Snyder and husband Leroy Kneitz of Trade, TN; sisters, Bernice Crosswhite of Knoxville, TN, Lucille Warren of Pleasant Grove, AL; several nieces and nephews.

    The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Derrick Wilson and John Crabtree officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

    Bert French Roark died Feb 14 at his home. He lived with his son Bert and daughter-in-law Barbara Roark at Princeton(OR). Viewing will be Friday morning at LaFollette's Chapel in Burns with graveside service at 2pm at Crane Cemetery.
    Born March 10,1910, in Mountain City,TN, to Samuel and Naomi Roark, he worked on the family farm until he came to Central Oregon in the 1930's to work herding sheep. He trapped for the government in Harney county and Central Oregon in the 1930's and 1940's. He started logging in the 1950's and continued in this occupation until he retired.
    Trapping for fur, hunting and fishing were special interests all his life.
    He is survived by his wife Leah of Pendleton; sons Sam of Parkdale, Lester Roark of Pendleton, John Roark of Pendleton, Russell Roark of Baker City, Bert Roark of Princeton, Clayton Roark and Jason Roark of Anchorage, Alaska; daughters Oma Ricker of Haines and Luella Roark; brothers Ed Roark and Wayne Roark of Mountain City,TN, Ray Roark of Parkdale; sisters Fay Die of Yuma,AZ and Mae Osborne of Parkdale.

    Hallie W. Dunn, age 87, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Shouns, Tennessee, she was born on May 8, 1919, the daughter of the late James and Collie Greer Williams. In addition to her parents, Hallie was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Dunn; two sons: Bill Dunn and Ronnie Dunn; one brother, Joe Williams; three sisters: Emma Wagner, Pauline Greer and Dolly Good and one grandson, Brad Dunn.

    Hallie was a member of Roans Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending her time talking with her friends and family on the phone and she also enjoyed flowers.

    Hallie is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law: Sue Greer of Lenoir, North Carolina; Louise Smith of Marion, North Carolina and Lois and Perry Jennings of Mountain City, Tennessee; two sons and daughters-in-law: Gilbert and Gayle Dunn of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Paul and Kathy Dunn of Mountain City, Tennessee; one sister, Ada Osborne; one sister-in-law, June Williams, both of Mountain City, Tennessee; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews and special friends: Marie McElyea, Beatrice Stewart, Iva Sheffield and Edith Thompson.

    We are saddened to announce the passing of Ada Mae Williams Osborne, age 90, on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at her residence. She was born December 29, 1930 to the late James Williams and Callie Williams. She is also preceded in death by her spouse, Chester Osborne. brother; Joe Williams and 4 sisters; Doll Goode, Emma Wagner, Pauline Greer, and Hallie Dunn Ada enjoyed planting flowers, gardening, reading, and quilting. She would often volunteer in the food pantry of First Baptist Church.

    Those left to cherish her memories include: Daughters; Peggy Bonifacino and Jimmy of Mountain City, TN and Marion Taylor of West Grove, PA. Sons; James Osborne and Becky of Morganton, NC and Cecil Osborne of Mountain City, TN. 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A visitation was held at First Baptist Church from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 25th, 2021. Funeral service began at 2:00pm and graveside services followed at Sunset Memorial Park with Ricky Campbell officiating.

    She loved her church and Jesus. Glenda had a special love for animals and raised various kinds during her lifetime. Her pride and joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren who she loved with all her heart.

    She was a member of First Apostolic Church.

    Those left to cherish her memories include her husband, Fred Duncan Sr.; daughter, Belinda Duncan; son, Fred Duncan Jr. and wife Jamie Arms; sister, Patricia Ann Maines Riggs and husband Charles; grandchildren, Brittany Keller and husband Lonnie and Brandi Greer; great grandchildren, Christian Keller and Gabriel Keller; and several nieces and nephews.

    The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2019 at the Mountain City Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Tracy Newman and Clay Newman officiating. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Sunset Memorial Park, Mountain City, TN.     She loved spending time with her Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening & working in her flowers. She was a homemaker and formerly worked at Levis and Leco.

    Margie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bill Greer. Her children; Cledith Greer of the home, Teresa & husband Mike Parlier of Deep Gap, Sandy Billings & husband Tim of Butler, John Greer & wife Denise also of Butler. Sister; Josephine Wallace of Mountain City, and a Brother, Vonnelly Lewis & wife Ann of Mountain City.

    Grandchildren; Michael Parlier, Chelsey Norwood, Amanda Mullins & husband Chris, Ashlee Cornett & husband Jeremy, Aylsa Hodge & husband Ernie, Amber Bumgardner & husband Timmy, Brandon Greer & Bradley Greer.

    Great Grandchildren; Lexi & Allie Mullins, Brylee & Blaine Cornett, Ava & Emma Hodge, Sam & Seth Bumgardner.

    Several nieces & nephews also survive.

    Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, January 31, 2018 in the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux & Lipford Funeral Home with, Pastor Teddy Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 P.M. prior to the service. Funeral service will begin at 2 P.M. Graveside service will follow at the Jones-Lewis Cemetery.

    Active pallbearers are: Chris Mullins, Jeremy Cornett, Ernie Hodge, Timmy Bumgardner, Josh Phillips & David Sachs.

    Honorary pallbearers are: Larry Mullins, Earl Greer & Dr. Floyd Barker.
