Charlie H. Whitehead, 95, Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Roan Mountain, passed away Monday, December 1, 2008.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Larkin L. and Nannie Largent Whitehead. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member of the Little Mountain Baptist Church and the Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge #566.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert, Joe, Grant, Ed and Lawrence Whitehead; a half brother, Earl Whitehead; one sister, Emma Whitehead; and three half sisters, Vicie Barnett, Sudie Hill and Gertrude Birchfield.

Survivors include his wife: Sarah Guinn Whitehead; A son & daughter-in-law: Leon and Louise Whitehead, Roan Mountain; Two Daughters and One son-in-law: Della Sue Whitehead, Elizabethton, and Loretta & Jimmy McKinney, Roan Mountain; Grandsons: Michael McKinney and wife, Raquel, Piney Flats, Mark McKinney and wife, April, Knoxville, Chris Whitehead and wife, Shannon, Roan Mountain; Great Grandsons: Hunter Scott McKinney and Christopher Blake Whitehead; Two Great Granddaughters: Rachel McKinney and Lilly Kate McKinney; Several Nieces & Nephews, including a special niece, Christine Malone; His Special Friends: Hurley Davis, Eddie Julian, Becky Lewis, Mr. & Mrs. Nathan Brown.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Delaney Berry officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Happy Valley Memorial Park.

Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday, will be Estel Whitehead, Jerry Whitehead, Tony Whitehead, Jeremy Cole, Bobby Hill, Ed Johnson, Cecil Largent, Mike Blevins, Raymond Hill, Larry Davis and David Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Joe Williams, Otis Guinn, Bernie Hill, Jerry Cole, Charles Jones, J.D. McKinney and the Over the Mountain Men.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of the son Leon Whitehead, 157 Holly Hill Road, Roan Mountain, or the residence of a daughter Loretta McKinney, 309 Heaton Ridge Road, Roan Mountain.

ROAN MOUNTAIN - Lester Leon Whitehead, 74, Roan Mountain, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charlie & Sarah Guinn Whitehead. He was a 1960 graduate of Cloudland High School. Leon was retired from the Carter County School System in the Maintenance Department. He attended the Strength & Everlasting Love Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years Louise Eggers Whitehead who died June 24, 2015 and by a sister: Loretta McKinney. Leon loved his mule.

Survivors include a sister: Della Whitehead, Roan Mountain. His Nephew: Chris & Shannon Whitehead, Roan Mountain, Blake Whitehead, Roan Mountain, Michael & Raquel McKinney, Piney Flats, Mark & April McKinney, Knoxville. Several great nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Baker and Pastor John McCoury officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Delaney Berry officiating. Loretta Whitehead McKinney, 66, of Roan Mountain, passed away at the Johnson City Medical Center after a sudden illness on Monday, March 3, 2014.
McKinney was a Carter County native and the daughter of the late Charlie and Sarah Guinn Whitehead. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain. She loved the Lord and had many special friends who previously served with her at Little Mountain Baptist Church of Roan Mountain and at Witt Baptist Church in Morristown.
Nothing was more important to Mrs. McKinney than her family. She exemplified what it means to be a "Proverbs 31 woman." After marrying her husband Jim and moving to Morristown, her primary job was to be a full-time Mom to her two sons. For many years, she kept busy shuttling the boys to ballgames, bike races, 4-H fairs, clogging shows, karate lessons, and anything else that interested her sons at the time, while always doing her best to make sure that Jim came home to a clean house at night with supper on the table.
When she wasn't busy with the boys, she worked at a variety of jobs in manufacturing, marketing, and sales. She and Jim moved back to Roan Mountain upon their retirement. She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and especially enjoyed making treats for them.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy McKinney, Roan Mountain; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Raquel McKinney, Piney Flats; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and April McKinney, Knoxville; five young grandchildren, Hunter, Lilly Kate, Rachael, Maggie, and Isla; a brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Louise Whitehead, Roan Mountain; a sister, Della Whitehead, Roan Mountain; a nephew, Chris Whitehead and wife Shannon Whitehead, Roan Mountain; and a niece, Laura Gorney and husband Charlie Gorney, Chesapeake, VA. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in the First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain with the Rev. Garry Edwards and Rev. Chris Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the Calhoun-McKinney Cemetery. Music will be provided by Rev. Chris Hughes and Mrs JoNell Young, Organist. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the church at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday will be: Mike Blevins, Todd Markland, Johnny Markland, Larry Shell, Glen "Sonny" Burleson and Lynn Ellis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donors favorite Charity. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain.

Sharlene Largent Roberson, 75, Roan Mountain, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at her residence. She was born June 11, 1947 in Roan Mountain to the late Oscar and Mary Lillie Julian Largent. Sharlene was a graduate of Hampton High School. She was a homemaker who loved cooking, gardening, sewing, fishing and most of all spending time with her family. She was of the Free Will Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie Roberson, and a sister, Louise Honeycutt; Survivors include five children, Tim (Dana) Roberson, Tommy (Renee) Roberson, Tina Roberson (Randy Ellis), Tonya Roberson Japp (Nick DiGiovanni) and Tammie Ramsey; grandchildren, Nikki Japp, Curtis Japp, Craig Japp, LeAnn Barnett, Harley Barnett, Devon Polifka, Dylan Polifka, Dalton Polifka, T.J. Roberson and Melena Roberson, and Jessi Ellis; great-grandchildren, Everleigh Polifka, Paisley and Grayson Barnett, Kenzie and Jake Wilson; one great-great-granddaughter, Stormi Combs; her brothers, Bill Julian, Eddie (Joyce) Largent, Clarence (Janet) Largent, Ernie Largent and Lawrence (Ann) Largent; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Jerry Honeycutt officiating. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Wesley C. Largent, age 57, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at his residence. He was the son of the late Kermit Largent and Loretta Carden Brockwell and was born in Elizabethton on January 7, 1964. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Robert Brockwell.

Wesley worked as a millwright and was the former owner and operator of Wesley’s Backhoe and Dump Truck Service. He was also a former employee of Alcoa Industries. He loved building and working on cars. He was of the Baptist faith.

Wesley is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Tammy Arnold Largent of Elizabethton; two sons, Markeus Largent of Morganton, TN and Trenity Largent and wife Sarah of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Alexis Largent and Shailynn Largent; one great-grandchild, Kaysen Bowers; five brothers and two sisters, Ricky Largent and wife Shannon of Elizabethton, Dale Largent and wife Barbara of Hampton, Randy Largent and wife Kris of Elizabethton, Jeff Largent and wife Christine of Hampton, Bobby Brockwell and wife Marie of Elizabethton, Debbie Younce and husband Rick of Elizabethton and Ruth Ann Klopfenstein and husband Bryan of Greenville, SC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Wesley C. Largent will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Greg Largent officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 pm – 7:00 pm prior to the service on Tuesday.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at the Pearl Bowers Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Nave, Jerry Street, Kevin Largent, Matthew Largent, Logan Taylor and Ben Taylor.
