    William "Billy" Forbes, 80, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Heavenly Father Saturday, October 26, 2013, in the Johnson City Medical Center surrounded by his devoted family. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late William Milburn Forbes Sr. and Florence Anna Oxendine Forbes. He retired from Inland Container after 37 years of service. Billy was an avid fisherman and spent many hours devoted to Christian Mission Works. He attended the House of Prayer and took an active part in Bible Study and Sunday School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Jack M. Forbes and brother-in-law: George Blankenship, Sr. Survivors include his wife of 39 years: Dorothy "Dot" Guinn Forbes; A Son: Teddy Forbes, Concord, North Carolina; A Daughter: Nancy Monreal and her husband: Larry Campbell (his fishing buddy), of Jonesborough; One Granddaughter: Angelica Monreal; A Great Granddaughter: Christina Monreal, San Antonio, Texas; Two Sisters: JoAnn Blankenship, Johnson City, and Edith Delp and her husband, Ray, Panama City Beach, Florida; Three Brothers: Roy Forbes, Elizabethton, Wesley Forbes, Cookeville, Tenn., and Duane Forbes and Wife, Loretta, Elizabethton; His Sister-in-Law: Mary Forbes, Elizabethton; One Aunt and Several Uncles; 8 Nieces & 7 nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2013, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Allen Simerly officiating. Entombment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013, in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by the Lyons Chapel Trio. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, will be: Wesley Forbes, John Forbes, George Blankenship, Eddie Forbes, Roger Odom and Roby Fritts. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Sam Harrison, Ronnie Kent, Jonathan Kent, Arvil McKinney, Larry McKinney, Jimmy Anderson, Harry Vines and his church family.

    JOHNSON CITY - Jo Ann Forbes Blankenship, 79, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

    Jo Ann was born in Carter County on December 18, 1939 to the late William Milburn and Florence Anna Forbes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, George W. "Pete" Blankenship; and two brothers, William "Bill" Forbes and Jack M. Forbes.

    Jo Ann was a 1957 graduate of Elizabethton High School. She graduated from Baptist School of Nursing in Memphis (1960) where she received her RN. Jo Ann was a graduate of East Tennessee State University where she received both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (1984) and Master of Education (1987) degrees. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Honor Society.

    Jo Ann was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and diligent community servant. Jo Ann attended Watauga United Methodist Church. She retired as a registered nurse after 39 years of service with 38 of those years being at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center at Mountain Home. She spent most of those years working in the Operating Room Department. In the OR she first worked as a staff nurse, was promoted to head nurse and then led the department as the OR nursing supervisor. She was a member of the State of Franklin Association of Operating Room Nurses, American Nursing Association, Tennessee Nurses Association, and the Tri-Cities Association of Operation Room Nurse (Past President and board of directors).

    Upon her retirement, Jo Ann served Carter County for 16 years as a Commissioner representing the Fifth District. She also served the community by being on the boards of and volunteering with numerous organizations including the West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department, the Jane and Charlie Bayless Scholarship Fund, and Sycamore Shoals Hospital. In retirement, Jo Ann became a talented artisan working with many different materials to create beautiful jewelry. She loved the time that she spent at jewelry school with her sister. She was a great fan of UT football and basketball. Jo Ann's most beloved activity was spending time with her grandchildren and other family members.

    Those left to cherish her loving memory include: son, George W. Blankenship, Jr. and wife Jennifer (Elizabethton); grandson, Jacob Blankenship (Elizabethton); granddaughter, Natalie Blankenship (Elizabethton); brothers, Roy Forbes and Erma Stevens (Elizabethton); brother, E. Wesley Forbes and wife Linda (Elizabethton) and Duane Forbes and wife Loretta (Elizabethton); sister, Edith Delp and husband Ray (Panama City Beach, FL); sisters-in-law, Mary Forbes (Elizabethton), Dorothy Forbes (Elizabethton), Nancy Gale Broyles and husband Charles "Chuck" (Johnson City) and Marie Blankenship (Elizabethton); and several nieces and nephews.

    A service to honor and celebrate the life of Jo Ann Forbes Blankenship will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway Percy Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Reverend Leann Crandall and Reverend Mike Berry, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday.

    The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Craig Shubert, Michael Harris, Chuck Broyles, Wesley Forbes, and Jacob Blankenship. Honorary pallbearers will be the Elizabethton High School Class of 1957

    Elige Wesley Forbes was born on March 30, 1942 in Elizabethton, Tenn. He was the son of Florence Ann (Oxendine) and Will Forbes, residents of Elizabethton, Tenn. Wes passed away on May 7, 2022 in Orlando, Fla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving sister, Joann Blankenship, and his brothers, Roy Forbes, Jack Forbes and Bill Forbes.
    Wes graduated from Hampton High School, Class of 1960, in Hampton, Tenn. He was a member of the State Championship Basketball Team and was in charge of the Class of 1960 Scholarship Fund. He was also a member of the Sports Hall of Fame for his basketball skills during his high school years at Hampton High School.
    After high school graduation Wes served four years in the United States Navy. Wes retired from Averitt Trucking Company where he was a maintenance director for many years.
    Wes is survived by his loving wife, Linda M. Forbes; his two sons, Dr. Wesley Scott Forbes and wife Dr. Jennifer Forbes of Green Bay, Wis., and Bryan Forbes and wife Susan Forbes of Knoxville, Tenn. He is also survived by his sister, Edie Delp and husband Dr. Ray Delp of Panama City Beach, Fla.; his brother, Duane Forbes and wife Loretta Forbes of Elizabethton, Tenn.; his wonderful sister-in-law, Mary Forbes of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and by his grandchildren, Raegan Forbes and Matthew Forbes of Knoxville, Tenn.
    A memorial service for family and friends of Wes will be held at a later date.

    HAMPTON - Karen Lynn Forbes Fisher, 57, Hampton passed away Friday, January 11, 2019 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

    She was born February 7, 1961 in Elizabethton. Karen was a retired School Teacher having taught 23 years in Carter & Johnson Counties. She was a graduate of Hampton High School, a Bachelor of Science, and Elementary Education in 1985 from East Tennessee State University and a Masters of Education, Special Education in 1996. Her activities include; Student Teacher Education Association (STEA), Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Mentor Teacher, Student Teaching Mentor Teacher. Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. Served as Historian, Vice-President and President of Kappa Delta Pi. Her Notable Awards: Shulman Family Foundation Scholarship Award, David Kent Miller Scholarship Award, Dean's List, Magna Cum Laude graduate. She also had previously worked at the Elizabethton Library. She was a member of the National Education Association, The Carter County Education Association, and the Tennessee Education Association. Karen was a member of the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church where she sang in the choir prior to her illness. She was preceded in death by her grandparents: William "Will" & Florence Forbes, Carl & Rosetta Babb, Her step-dad Bob Laws and her father & mother-in-law: Vaughn & Elsie Fritts.

    Survivors include her son: James Robert "Robbie" Fritts, Hampton. Her Mother: Charlotte Babb Laws. Her Father: Roy Forbes and Erma Stevens. Her sisters: Linda Kay Forbes and Rosie Forbes Harwell & husband David. Her Brother: Clyde Edward "Ed" Forbes & wife Jennifer "Jenny". The father of her son: James "Jim" Fritts. Her "God Child" Marina Bailey. Several Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her special friend & caregiver Dawnella Campbell, members of the Carter County Retired Teachers, Multiple Myeloma Support Group.

    A Service to celebrate the life of Karen Fisher will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Mark Potter officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Music will be provided by the John Harrington Family and the Praise Choir of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. Graveside Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2019 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music at the cemetery will be provided by Lisa Morgan. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the church at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday and also at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday will be: Brandon Estep, James Forbes, Jacob Forbes, Jeremy Rouse, Dakota Harwell, Jimmy Sarrett, Carl Harrison and David Harwell.
