ELIZABETHTON — Mrs. Viola Ethel Sluder Pierce, 89, Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord in the company of family and loved ones Tuesday, December 21, 2010, in the Life Care Center of Elizabethton.

A native of Shady Valley, she was a daughter of the late Everett Edgar and Grace Robinette Sluder. She had lived most of her life in Carter County.

She was a former employee of the Magnavox Company. Mrs Pierce loved to embroider, quilt, work jigsaw puzzles and take care of her grandchildren. She was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. John B. Pierce Sr.; a daughter: Nellie Pierce Grant; and a sister, Mable McQueen.

Survivors include Three Daughters & Sons-In-Law: Wanda & Gus Johnson, Bristol, Naomi & Bill Jones, Elizabethton, and Margie & Neil Burgner, Limestone; Two Sons & Daughters-in-Law; J.B. & Tracy Pierce, Jefferson City, Missouri, and Edgar and Joyce Pierce, Jackson, Tennessee; Step-Daughter: Johnie Estep, Johnson City; Five Grandchildren: Daniel Pierce and wife, Jill, Vienna, Virginia, Cody Pierce, Monticello, Arkansas, Sarah Jones, Danielle Jones and Benjamin Jones, all of Elizabethton; Two Sisters: Ardna Campbell, Mountain City, and Bertha Hutchinson, Maryville, Tenn.; Several Step-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

MOUNTAIN CITY - We are saddened to announce the passing of Ardna M. Campbell, age 95, of Mountain City, TN

late Sunday night at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born October 9, 1925 to the late Edgar Everette Sluder and Gracie Eleanor Robinette Sluder. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, an original member of Johnson County Crewettes, an accomplished seamstress and quilter and she enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband W. Dale Campbell in 2006; son Randy Campbell; two sisters: Viola Pierce and Mabel McQueen; two grandsons: Carnice Campbell and infant grandson Jarrett Reece.

Those left to cherish her memory include: two daughters: Belinda (Tom) Reece and Joy Snyder, both of Mountain City, TN; two sons: Terry (Pat) Campbell of Franklin, NC and Lynn (Shirley) Campbell of Mountain City, TN; sister: Bertha Hutchinson of Knoxville, TN; nine grandchildren: Stacey Reece, Brad Reece, Tim Campbell, Matt Campbell, Courtney Garrett, Scotty Campbell, Lindsey Campbell, Malori Gentry and Trent Snyder; thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. UNICOI - Willa Mae Bradley Davis Chambers, age 86, Unicoi, went home to be with her Savior, Jesus, on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Roy Milburn Bradley and Emma Robinette Bradley.
Willa graduated from Walters State Community College with her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development. She was a teacher and director of TOPS Migrant Head Start Program for several years. Willa also owned and operated her business, The Fabric Barn. She worked at Industrial Garment before attending college. Willa’s greatest joy came from being a homemaker and raising her family.
Willa was an active member of Unicoi Church of God. She humbly served the church wherever she was needed. Willa’s kind heart, generosity and sweet spirit brought joy to all she met. She was talented both artistically and creatively. Willa was an excellent seamstress, having made many of her own clothing as well as her families clothing. She enjoyed basket weaving, quilting, furniture upholstering, cake decorating, interior decorating, gardening and growing flowers. Willa will be greatly missed by her family, friends and church family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of forty-four years and father of her children, Fred Davis in 1995; her second husband of fourteen years, George Chambers in 2014; her siblings: Ruth Bradley, Lee Bradley, Dorothy Tipton and Hubert Bradley.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, three daughters: Jo Ann Depew, Jonesborough, Debra Doan (David) and Elizabeth Berry (George), all of Unicoi; a special niece who was like a daughter to Willa, Donna Howell; three stepchildren: Melissa, Karen and Michael (Karen) Chambers; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Fern Bradley, Alene Hartley (Dwight), Pat Ratliff (Bill) and Jess Davis (Ginger); fifteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Irene June Tolley, age 85,112 Clarence Tolley Lane, Unicoi, passed unexpectedly Saturday morning, June 7, 2014 in the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Tolley was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Dewey Robinette, Sr. and Minnie Dearafield Robinette. She was the oldest living member of the Unicoi Church of God. Mrs. Tolley was a prolific reader, and enjoyed homemaking for her family.

Mrs.Tolley was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Tolley, in 2002, and a brother, Ernest Robinette. She is survived by two daughters: Elizabeth Anne Roberts, and husband, Hobart, and Deborah Brummitt, both of Unicoi; one son: Jerry Tolley, and wife, Teresa, Virginia Beach,VA; three sisters: Mildred Morton, Emma Jean Wallin, and husband, Edison, both of Unicoi; Ethel Byrd, Erwin; two brothers: Dewey Robinette, Jr. and wife, Shirleen, Unicoi; Leonard Robinette, and wife, Mary, Erwin; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service for Mrs.Tolley will be held Monday, June 9, 2014 at 7:00 pm in the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Ronnie Holloway will officiate. Special music will be provided by Debra Britt, Billie Collins, and Bill Etheridge. She was a native of Unicoi, but lived in Silver Springs, MD for fourteen years before returning to Unicoi for the rest of her life. Mildred was a daughter of the late Dewey Robinette, Sr. and Minnie Derafield Robinette. She was a lifelong member of Unicoi Church of God.

In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Morton; her first husband and father of her children, Virgil Byrd; one grandson, David Jordan in 1977; two brothers: Ernest Robinette, Leonard Robinette; two sisters: Irene Tolley, Ethel Byrd.

Mrs. Byrd lived most of her life in Erwin. She was a daughter of the late Dewey and Minnie Derafield Robinette. Mrs. Byrd was employed by Easy Painter where she worked as a packer for twenty-five years. She attended Unicoi Church of God.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Lee Byrd on August 17, 1994; one son, Russell Byrd; two brothers: Ernest Robinette and Leonard Robinette; one sister, Irene Tolley.

She is survived by two daughters: Elizabeth Anne Roberts, and husband, Hobart, and Deborah Brummitt, both of Unicoi; one son: Jerry Tolley, and wife, Teresa, Virginia Beach,VA; three sisters: Mildred Morton, Emma Jean Wallin, and husband, Edison, both of Unicoi; Ethel Byrd, Erwin; two brothers: Dewey Robinette, Jr. and wife, Shirleen, Unicoi; Leonard Robinette, and wife, Mary, Erwin; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service for Mrs.Tolley will be held Monday, June 9, 2014 at 7:00 pm in the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Ronnie Holloway will officiate. Special music will be provided by Debra Britt, Billie Collins, and Bill Etheridge. Active pallbearers will be Hobart Roberts, Doug Roberts, Eric Brummitt, Justin Brummitt, Jerry Tolley, and Larry Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be the Unicoi Church of God Ladies Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, between the hours of 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and other times at the residence of her daughter, Anne Roberts, 116 Clarence Tolley Lane.

The committal service for Mrs.Tolley will be in Roselawn Memory Gardens, Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 10:00 am.

Irene married Clarence Tolley about 1945. UNICOI - Mildred Opal Robinette Byrd Morton, age 88, Unicoi, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019, at the Christian Care Center of Unicoi County.

She was a native of Unicoi, but lived in Silver Springs, MD for fourteen years before returning to Unicoi for the rest of her life. Mildred was a daughter of the late Dewey Robinette, Sr. and Minnie Derafield Robinette. She was a lifelong member of Unicoi Church of God.

In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Morton; her first husband and father of her children, Virgil Byrd; one grandson, David Jordan in 1977; two brothers: Ernest Robinette, Leonard Robinette; two sisters: Irene Tolley, Ethel Byrd.

Mildred leaves behind to cherish her memory, two daughters: Kathy Owen (Ed), Memphis, Anita Johnson (Jack), Chicago; one son, James Byrd, Elizabethton; one brother, Dewey Robinette, Jr. (Shirleen), Unicoi; one sister, Emma Jean Wallin (Edison), Unicoi; eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren; her special niece, Amy Wallin Tipton, several other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Eddie Blazer will officiate at the 7:00 P.M. funeral service. Jack Johnson and James Byrd will deliver the Eulogy. Music will be provided by Luanne Powers, Ron Shelton, and Amanda Osborne. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. ERWIN — Ethel Estelle Byrd, age 81, 103 Conductor Lane, Erwin passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016, at her residence.

Mrs. Byrd lived most of her life in Erwin. She was a daughter of the late Dewey and Minnie Derafield Robinette. Mrs. Byrd was employed by Easy Painter where she worked as a packer for twenty-five years. She attended Unicoi Church of God.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Lee Byrd on August 17, 1994; one son, Russell Byrd; two brothers: Ernest Robinette and Leonard Robinette; one sister, Irene Tolley.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories, four sons: Terry Byrd and wife, Jeannie, Johnson City; Ron Byrd and wife, Sandra, NC; Dennis Byrd and wife, Pam, Erwin; Richard Byrd and wife, Terry, Church Hill; two daughters: Gail Holloway and husband, Reverend Travis Holloway, Erwin; Darlene Tate and husband, Kenny, Erwin; a daughter-in-law, Vivian Byrd, Erwin; one brother, Dewey Robinette, Jr. and wife, Sherlene, Unicoi; two sisters: Mildred Morton, Unicoi; Emma Jean Wallin and husband, Edison, Unicoi; eighteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and two great grandchildren to be born soon. Several nieces, nephews and her pet, "Pepper" also survive.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 6:00 PM until the hour of funeral service at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Travis Holloway and Reverend Eddie Blazer will officiate at the 8:00 PM funeral service. Music will be provided by Carolyn Harris. ERWIN — Leonard Wayne Robinette, age 68, 132 Canah Hollow Road, Erwin, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Dewey and Minnie Derafield Robinette. Mr. Robinette had been employed by Murray Guard and CSX Railroad.

He was a member of the Unicoi Church of God.

Other than his parents, Mr. Robinette was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Robinette and a sister, Irene Tolley.

Mr. Robinette leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of fifteen years, Mary E. Lewis Robinette; one son, Eddie Robinette of Jonesborough; two step-sons, John Lewis and wife, Lisa and James Lewis and wife, Judith, all of Johnson City; one brother, Dewey Robinette, Jr. and wife, Shirleen of Unicoi; three sisters, Mildred Morton, Unicoi, Ethel Byrd of Erwin and Emma Jean Wallin and husband, Edison of Unicoi; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

GRAY - Dennis Lee Bradley, 66, of Gray, passed away on Friday, March 4th, 2022, at his home following a long battle with cancer.
He was a native of Johnson City, son of the late Lee Roy Bradley and Mabel Lewis Bradley.
Dennis was a man who loved to work with his hands. He made his living as a machinist, tool & die maker, but was best described as jack-of-all-trades. He was a lifelong tinkerer who was always working on something; if it was too broke for him to fix, it probably wasn’t fixable.
Those surviving include: wife, Annie Cox Bradley, married since August 10th, 1974; daughter, Amanda Proffitt and husband Ryan; sisters, Alice Rateau and husband Joe, Linda Myers and husband Bruce, Lois Tipton and husband Ron; grandchildren, Ariana Bradley and Colby Proffitt; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
