    Mrs. Eliza Jane Hyder, age 62, of the Gap Creek community, passed away suddenly last night at 7:20 o'clock in a car while on her way to the home of her son, Brown Hyder, where she has made her home. She was returning from a visit with her daughter, Mrs. Luther Hill.
    Mrs. Hyder was been in failing health for the past year. She was born 16Sep1881 at Gap Creek & had lived in that community all her life. Her husband preceded her in death several years ago.
    She was a member of the Zion Baptist church at Gap Creek.
    Survivors are 6 daughters, Mrs. Earnest Allison of Johnson City; Mrs. Romney Blevins of Elizabethton; Mrs. Reva Smith, Mrs. Luther Hill, Mrs. James Britt, of Gap Creek; & Mrs. Orville Markland of Milligan; 3 sons, Pvt. Brown Hyder, of Camp Chaffee, AR; Vance Hyder of Gap Creek & Albert yder of Johnson City; 1 sister, Mrs. Martha Emert of Gap Creek; 4 brothers, Will & Nat Dugger of Elizabethton; & James & Jett Dugger of Gap Creek; & 14 grandchildren.

    Miss Seffie Ann Dugger, 102, of Southside Road, Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at the home of her daughter. Miss Dugger was born in Elizabethton and was a daughter of the late William David and Nancy Jane White Dugger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Charlie, Ed, George, Tip and Alvin Dugger; a sister, Alice Bailey; and two granddaughters, Aleta Jane Darnell and Cynthia Ann Andes.
    Miss Dugger worked at Bemberg until her retirement and then was a cook at Southside Elementary School. She was a charter member of Southside Christian Church. She loved to work in the yard, do gardening, canning, cooking and being outdoors. She also enjoyed quilting.
    Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Laura Mae Suddath, of Greeneville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Kelly Roberts and her husband, Tony, of Greeneville, and Pamela Ensor and her husband, Alan, of Johnson City; seven great-grandchildren, Ryan Humphreys, Paula Dean Nave, Lauren Wines and her husband, Buddy, Lindsey Sawyer, Gabe Roberts, Brooklyn Roberts and Katelyn Roberts; three great-great-grandchildren, Bentley Sawyer, Talon Sawyer and Cheyenne Finkle; and her special furry friend, Buster the dog. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    A service to honor the life of Miss Dugger will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, January 26, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Chaplain Leonard Shelton and Mr. Mike Koruschak, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of No Name But His. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Buddy Wines, Ryan Humphreys, Alan Ensor, Gabe Roberts and men of the church.     Vance Hyder, age 99 of Elizabethton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Oscar and Jane Dugger Hyder. Mr. Hyder was a farmer, who enjoyed raising tomatoes and was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 42 years of service. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Jenkins Hyder, December 27, 1998, two brothers and nine sisters.


    Survivors include daughter, Nancy Diane Hyder, Elizabethton, three sons and daughters-in-law, Norman "Buddy" Hyder and wife, Jeane Smithdeal Hyder, Elizabethton, Carmon Ray Hyder and wife, Sue Calloway Hyder, Johnson City, Tony J. Hyder and wife, Brenda Peters Hyder, Elizabethton. Ten grandchildren, Michael K. Adams, Bristol, TN, Andy Hyder, Elizabethton, Patrick Hyder, Telford, Timothy Hyder, Johnson City, Christopher Hyder, Johnson City, Kathy Hyder Boling, Elizabethton, Katrina Hyder Hopson, Elizabethton, Alecia Hyder, Elizabethton, Debbie Hyder Hodges, Elizabethton, Tabitha Hyder Blackwell, Elizabethton, 19 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.     The funeral service for Mr. Vance Hyder will be conducted at 8 PM, Thursday, May 24, 2012 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. C.W. Snodgrass and Rev. Burl Sluder officiating. Music will be under the direction of Katrina Hopson, Debbie Hodges and Tabitha Blackwell. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, from 6:30 PM until 8 PM prior to the service.


    The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Noon at Happy Valley Memorial Park.     ELIZABETHTON - Hannah Maye Dugger Whitehead, 101, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021 in the Hermitage Health Center. She was born December 10, 1919 in Carter County, to the late Stephen Jett and Nell Ward Dugger. She had lived her entire life in Gap Creek area. Mrs. Whitehead was the oldest member of Zion Baptist Church where she had attended her entire life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Charles Whitehead, two sons: Jimmy and Ralph Whitehead, one daughter: Phyllis Merritt, two grandsons: Marcus Merritt and Chris Whitehead, two brothers: James and Clarence Dugger. Four sisters: Laura Taylor, Anna Pate, Virginia Wilson, and Joyce Dugger and her daughter-in-law: Shirley Whitehead. She loved to work in here flowers and her garden and loved to sew.

    She is survived by two sons: Terry and Steve Whitehead, One great granddaughter: Falon Whitehead and one great grandson: Chris Whitehead. One sister: Artha Loveless, several nieces and nephews. Also, her special friends: Joan Whisenhunt, Bobbie Taylor, Juanita Wodard, Shirley Cole, Pansey Johnson, Cheryl Harrison, Mittie Huffine and Gay Loveless.

Mr. Dugger served on the Board of Directors for Happy Valley Credit Union for three years and on the Credit Committee for twenty-nine years.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Wilson and Laura Taylor.

    Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cannon Dugger of the home, one son: Gary Dugger, one daughter and son-in-law: Elaine and Scott Wilson, NC, four grandchildren: Jordan Masters and husband Kevin, Gavin Dugger, all of Erwin, Shawn Riddle and wife Vickie, Cool Springs, NC, Lance Riddle, Troutman, NC, three great-grandchildren: Nori Page Riddle, Calub James Riddle, Nicholas Trent Riddle, and four sisters: Anna Pate, Hannah Whitehead, Artha Loveless and Sue Dugger, all of Elizabethton.     Artha was a wonderful homemaker, mother, wife and grandmother and was a member of Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church. Artha loved her family and her church family and will be dearly missed.
    Those left to cherish Artha’s memory include her daughter, Kathy (Kenny) Lethcoe; her special granddaughter, Cara Carr; her grandson, Jackson Richerson of Mobile, Ala.; her granddaughter, Nora Grace Richerson, also of Mobile, Ala.; and her special friends, Jeff and Sandy Carr, Debbie Wilson, Sandi Harris and Haynes Carr.     Joyce was born in Carter County to the late Jett and Rosa Nell Ward Dugger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia Wilson, Anna Pate and Laura Taylor; and two brothers, Jimmy Dugger and Clarence Dugger.

    Joyce retired from Sycamore Shoals Hospital as a medical transcriptionist. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church and she loved sports, especially UT football and the Dallas Cowboys. Joyce also enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews.

    Those left to cherish her memory include two sisters, Artha Loveless and Hannah Mae Whitehead; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

    A service to celebrate the life of Joyce Sue Dugger will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Thursday, March 1, 2018 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with her great nephew, Joshua Pate, officiating.     Lena Bowers Peters, 86, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, from Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Lena was born in Carter County to the late Emmert Caleb Bowers and Rowena Bell Brown Bowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bynum Peters; 15 brothers and sisters; and a great-grandson, Caden Bradshaw.
    Lena was the sweetest, most kind, gentle and forgiving hearted, tender and compassionate woman. She retired from Texas Instruments as a quality control technician and then worked seven additional years at Big Lots of Elizabethton. She was a member of Roan Street Church of God and enjoyed decorating, flowers, gardening and associating with friends and spending time with her family.
    Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Vickie Pearce of Elizabethton; a grandson, Brian Bradshaw and wife Becky of Elizabethton; two great-grandsons, Colton Bradshaw and Collin Bradshaw, both of Elizabethton; and a special nephew, Donald Bowers of Erwin.

    ELIZABETHTON — Rev. Horace C. Bowers, 75, of 287 Old Lacy Hollow Road, Elizabethton, went home to heaven be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 18, 2010, at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, TN, following an extended illness.

    He was the son of the late Emmitt and Rowena Brown Bowers and was a native of Carter County in the Hampton community. Mr. Bowers was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a carpenter, minister, former employee of Great Lakes Research, served as an associate pastor for eleven years at Hunter First Baptist Church and was a member of the Pleasant Beach Baptist Church.

    In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by six brothers and nine sisters.

    Rev. Bowers is survived by his wife of 51 years, Violet Carrier Bowers, of the home; one son, Jonathan Horace Bowers, of Knoxville, TN; one daughter and son-in-law, Rowean and Kenneth Dunn, of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Daniel Dunn and wife, Teresa, of Johnson City, David Dunn and wife, Jessica, and Dianna Dunn, all of Elizabethton; five great grandchildren, Chaz Deakins, Alyssa Dunn, Zachariah Dunn, John Ethan Deakin, all of Elizabethton, and Caleb Rosenbalm, of Johnson City; a soon to be born great granddaughter, Karleigh Grace Dunn; a sister, Lena Peters, of Elizabethton; and a beloved dog, little bit. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    The funeral service for Rev. Bowers will be conducted on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at 8:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with Rev. Daniel Dunn, Rev. Dale Greenwell and Rev. Jerry Lyons officiating.

    The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the service.

    Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:45 PM to go in procession to the cemetery.

    The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 21, 2010, at Emmert Cemetery in Elizabethton. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post No. 49. Active pallbearers will be Levi Hochstetier, Robert Rosenbalm, Jack Berry, Jerry Lunsford, Lewis Blevins and Gerald Holly. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church, friends and neighbors.

    Born May 22, 1927, Jack went to be with the Lord on July 13, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents Dave and Bess Glover, and a sister Georgia Ford.

    He is survived by two sisters: Pearl (Kenneth) Jones and Betty (Bob) Townsend, both of Johnson City.

    Jack's first wife, Nadine (Church) Glover, passed away, leaving him with three young children: Judy Kay Scott, David (Donna) Glover of Meadville, PA and Phillip Glover (deceased). At this time, Jack helped to create a new family, joining with his Aunt Mayzie Hagie (deceased), a widow with two children still at home: Stanley (Kathy) Hagie of Sylvan Beach, NY and Jean (Tim) Sherwood (deceased).

    After many years, he met and married his second wife, Nadine (Hangartner) Glover (deceased). She was a widow with five children: George, Sam (Gwen), Anita (Wayne) D'Hondt, Darlene (Arthur) Platt, all of NY and Tim (Kim) Hangartner of Morristown, TN (deceased).
    Jack became "Dad", "Papa", "Pop" or "Jackson" to all. He was also Grandpa to many including Christina (Robert) Warnock, Stephanie (Tom) McCaffrey, Jeff (Kim) Glover, Darryl (April) Glover, Silver Marie Glover, Ken (Glenda) Hagie, Madeline Sherwood, Aaron (Kelly) Sherwood, Emily (Chris) Byler, Nate (Sara) Zapp, Ginni Platt, Jeff Platt, Deanna (Tom) Poczciwinski, Sam Hangartner and Kyle, Aubrie and Tyler Hangartner. He had several great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. His nieces and nephews were special to him and he was known to some as "Our Tennessee Dad". He had a special "daughter", Deltah (Paul) Kleinhans, and remained close all his life to the siblings of his first wife: Vivian Schackow, Joyce Reece (deceased) and Ross, Dale, Hobert Jr. and Lowell Church.

    Born in Elizabethton, TN he was the son of the late George Pierce Bailey and Alice Elizabeth Dugger Bailey. He retired as a Supervisor from Inland Container after forty-five years of service. Mr. Bailey was a member of Southside Christian Church and he served in the U. S. National Guard for eighteen years. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis "Susie" Miller Bailey and a sister, Elsie Kyker. Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Robert Bailey and wife Carla, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Alex Bailey and wife Haley and Andrew Bailey, all of Elizabethton; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley Bailey, Elizabethton; three sisters, Cleo Kelly, Johnson City; Mary Jane Calhoun, Elizabethton and Betty J. She was the greatest wife, mother, grandmother, sister and great grandmother to ever walk the earth. Everyone who knew her loved her so much because of the amount of love she always gave in return.     Barbara was a member of University Parkway Baptist Church, where she was a preschool teacher in the Livewire Children's Ministry for over nine years. She was a devout Christian and was part of the Explorer Bible Study group for over 30 years.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayne Goodwin; and three sisters, Brenda York, Marrian Smith, and Jewel Richardson.

    She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Goodwin; a stepdaughter, Patsy Hayes; a stepdaughter, Lois Brady and her husband, Ron; a stepdaughter, Donna Mitchell and her husband, Fred; a stepson, Gary Goodwin; a brother, Carl Hyder and his wife Donna; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

    ELIZABETHTON - Mrs. Stella Marie Hardin Henegar, 81, of Elizabethton, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Henegar was a native and life-long resident of Carter County. She was the daughter of the late J. Smith and Loretta Dugger Hardin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Blaine Henegar, Sr., who was the love of her life, and a grandson, Jonathan Reece, her best pal. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond L. Hardin in 1989; Earl K. Hardin, Sr., in 2015; and Archie D. Hardin in May, 2016.

    Mrs. Henegar was a graduate of Hampton High School. Her first job was at the old Anderson Supermarket on E Street during Christmas. She later worked at Eagle's, and for many years at the Tastee Freez, and later at Summers Hardware. She was a charter member of Beck Mountain Baptist Church, but later became a member of Sims Hill Christian Church, where she enjoyed worshiping until she was unable to attend due to her illness. Mrs. Henegar was a big supporter of the Carter County American Cancer Society Relay for Life, being a three time survivor of cancer herself, and in 2008 served as honorary chairperson. She was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family and being a caregiver. She especially enjoyed being with people and talking to them on the telephone. She also enjoyed sitting on the front porch and shopping. Her favorite places to shop were Wal-Mart, Peebles, and the grocery store, because of the many people she met. She was a collector of red birds and bird houses.

    Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Reece and her husband, Terry, of Butler; a son and her primary caregiver for the past several years, Blaine "Buddy" Henegar, Jr. and his special friend, Ladonna Williams of Elizabethton; one brother Teddy (Sharon) Hardin of Hampton; five sisters, Helen "Sally" Matherly and Rozella Hardin of Elizabethton, Jane (Wayne) Browder of Gray, who was her caregiver, took her shopping, out to eat, and to the doctor, as well as many other activities; Rebecca Shipley of Blountville, and Elaine Larkins of Elizabethton; a special nephew, Danny Henegar; and a special niece, April Matherly. Several other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

    A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Henegar will be conducted on Monday, October 3, 2016, at 7:30 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Campbell and Rev. Steve Guinn, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:30 PM on Monday prior to the service, and at her home, or the home of her daughter, at any time.

    The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at 11:00 AM at the Sims Hill Christian Church Cemetery, with Rev. Bryan Smith officiating. Beulah was a very talented seamstress and enjoyed gardening and working outside. She also enjoyed watching Nascar and football.

    Mr. Scalf was a native of Washington County who had lived most of his life in Greeneville. He was the son of the late Ruby (Bowers) and the Rev. John E. Scalf Sr.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Fred (Ruby) Dulaney; one nephew: Wayne Dulaney; and several half-brothers and half-sisters.
    The family provided the following statement: "John loved attending church at New Jerusalem Free Will Baptist Church. He also attended Bible study at Greene Valley. He loved listening to gospel music and playing the guitar.
    "John had also enjoyed coming to Johnson City with Vickie Stubblefield and Wayne Hyatt to eat with his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Earl Hammer."
    Additional survivors include: two brothers and their wives: Harold and Shelia Scalf of Watauga and Charles and Tresia Scalf of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; his family members" and "wonderful caregivers" at Greene Valley Developmental Center, whom he loved very much, the family noted.

    Barbara was born in Johnson City to the late Rev. John E. Scalf and Ruby Bowers Scalf. Mrs. Hammer retired from the American Red Cross after 20 years of service. Barbara was a Certified Medical Assistant and had previously attended ETSU.
    Barbara was a member of By Faith Freewill Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher and a member of the church choir. She was truly a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
    She enjoyed taking trips with her husband Earl and other family members, cooking for holiday family gatherings, hiking, and taking car rides with Earl. She especially enjoyed their trips to Niagara Falls, Washington DC, and Myrtle Beach, SC.
    Barbara was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her family, loved to laugh, and she was cherished by her family and friends.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Annalee Dulaney and brother in-law Fred Dulaney, brothers John Scalf Jr. and Charles Scalf and sister in-law Teresa; a daughter, Kimberly G. Hammer, two granddaughters Sarah Hammer and Hannah Hammer, as well as several nieces and nephews.
    Survivors include her husband of 61 years Samuel Earl Hammer; her brother Harold Scalf of Watauga, Tn; a daughter Belinda James and son William “Bill” Hammer and wife Scarlet all of Johnson City; her grandchildren Daphny Jones, Thomas Williams, Kristina Adams, Laura Ramsey, Isaac Hammer, and John Ramsey; great-grandchildren Carson Taylor, Kendyl Adams, and Noah Ramsey; and several nieces, nephews and special friend Frances Soffiotto.

    Charlie was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran having served during the Vietnam War where he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He had worked as a truck driver and was of the Holiness faith.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Danie Kissinger, a brother, John Scalf, Jr., a sister, Ruby Annalee Dulaney, and several half brothers and half sisters. Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Tresia Hensley Scalf, of the home; two sons, Jeffrey Scalf and wife, Taina, Peekskill, NY, and Steven Scalf, of the home; two granddaughters, Kayla and Maria Scalf, Peekskill, NY; a sister, Barbara Hammer and husband, Earl, Johnson City, and a brother, Harold "Dickie" Scalf and wife, Sheila, Watauga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home or at the residence other times. The funeral service for Mr. Scalf will be conducted at 12:30 P.M. Thursday, October 29, 2009, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph "Jody" Coontz officiating.
    Graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #49 Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Bill Hammer, Keith Guinn, David Scalf, Larry Horton, Phillip Coontz, Patrick Sells, and Kyle Moran. Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers-in-law, Clarence Perry, Earl Hammer, and Jessie Hensley, and special friends, Bill Woodfin, Paul Darnell, and Hector Alicea.

    ELIZABETHTON - Mary “Midge” McQueen, age 80, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Signature Health Care of Elizabethton. Midge was born in Carter County to the late Arnold and Lulean Dolan Emmert. In addition to her parents, Midge was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra Karen; a son, Kit B. McQueen; a great grandson, Timothy James Vaughn; a brother, Roy Emmert; and a sister, Brenda Crowe.

    Mary was a homemaker and a member of Big Spring Church of Christ. She was a loving mother, wife and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with family and going camping.

    Those left to cherish Midge’s wonderful memory include her husband of fifty five years, Kit Carson McQueen of Elizabethton; a daughter, Donna Vaughn and husband Jimmy of Elizabethton; a son, Christopher Gene McQueen and wife Dorothy also of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Channa Williams, Brandi Estep and husband Donny, Josh Vaughn and wife Cassie, Skylar McQueen and Christian McQueen; four great grandchildren, Ky-Ream Desselle, Edgar Estep, Oliver Vaughn and Owen Vaughn. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

    A celebration of Midge’s life will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, August 23, 2021 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home Elizabethton with Pastor Glen Layfield officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Monday.

    JOHNSON CITY - Kathy Ann Kelly Lockner, 68, Johnson City, passed away after a brief illness, Friday, May 5, 2023, at Lakebridge, A Waters Community with her family by her side.

    Kathy was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. She was a daughter of Cleo H. Bailey Kelly and the late Lester H. Kelly.

    Kathy was a 1973 graduate of Science High School. She enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt. Kathy was a fun-loving, free spirited, kind, and gentle “hippy” at heart, which contributed to her nickname, “Chatty Kathy”. She loved her family and friends, and they will miss her deeply.

    In addition to her father, Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Billy Joe Lockner; maternal grandparents, George and Alice Bailey; paternal grandmother Mary Kate Kelly.

    Survivors include her son, Josh Arnold; grandson, Michael Arnold; great grandson, Keygan Arnold; sister, Angie Blevins; brother, Jimmy Kelly; aunts, Betty Ford, Mary Calhoun; uncle, Stan Bailey; nephews, Chad, Nick, and Jacob Blevins; niece, Alexis Kelly.

    The funeral service for Kathy will be conducted Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home. The graveside committal service will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be chosen from friends and family.

    Kathy Marie Henegar Reece, Butler, died Oct. 19, 2019, at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a lengthy illness.

    Kathy, 63, was a native and lifelong resident of Carter County. She was the daughter of the late Blaine and Stella Hardin Henegar. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Reece.

    Kathy was a graduate of Hampton High School and was retired from Lowe's Food Stores.

    She was a member of Sims Hill Christian Church, but attended Fish Springs Baptist Church.

    Very talented in arts and crafts, Kathy enjoyed quilting, crocheting, baking and decorating cakes. She also enjoyed making seasonal decorations. Kathy was a very talented seamstress and in past years had directed a number of weddings and also made several wedding gowns. She had won some blue ribbons for her quilts.

    She especially enjoyed the time spent with her sewing club friends.

    Survivors include her husband, Terry Reece of the home; a brother, Blaine "Bud" Henegar, Jr. and his fiancée, LaDonna Williams of Houston, Tx.; a grandson, Sam Swecker, Eizabethton; one uncle, Teddy Hardin, Hampton; five aunts, Helen "Sally" Matherly and Rozella Hardin, Elizabethton; Jane Browder, Gray; Rebecca Shipley, Blountville, and Elaine Freeman, Boones Creek; a very special friend, Phyllis Slemp; and her pet companion, Sassy.

    She is also survived by a number of cousins, in-laws, and special friends.

    The family would like to thank her caregivers, Michelle Lewis, Amy Jackson, and Belle for their love and care; to the staff at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, especially the nurses in the ICU unit; the Carter County Rescue Squad; and Dr. Kenneth Hopland and Medical Care.

    It was Kathy's wish to be cremated with no formal services. Her ashes will be disposed of in a private ceremony to be held at a later date.

    Born March 18, 1967, to Archie and Martha Honeycutt Hardin, Jeff enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with those he loved.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Archie D. Hardin.
    He will be dearly missed and leaves many memories left to cherish by his loving partner, Janet Smith; mother, Martha Hardin; brothers, Bill Hardin and Liz, Jamie Hardin, and Jesse Hardin and wife Sarah; two sons, Justin and Hunter Hardin; nephews, James Hardin and Bryson Hardin; and a special new grandson, Theo Hardin.
    The family will receive friends at the home of Jesse Hardin in Roan Mountain. Per Jeff's wishes, no service or interment is planned, as he selflessly donated his body to cancer research so that others might live.
