Vernell Johnson Tolley, 81, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at her residence. She was born January 29, 1941 in Butler to the late Dana and Polly Sheets Johnson.
Vernell was of the Holiness Faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Tolley; two sisters, Lucille Stines and Louella Dugger; and a brother, David Sheets.
Survivors include three sisters, Betty Markland and husband Dana, Helen Ellison and Sarah Hartsook; her sister-in-law, Wanda Hyder; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Melinda Pritchard, and a special nephew, Kevin Markland; and her two furry buddies, Rhudy and Bear.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Carl Grindstaff officiating. Music will be provided by Lacey Maines and Donna Shepherd. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Markland, Chris Markland, Nicholas Markland, Katie Markland, Lucas Greenwell, William Conwell and Doc Maines. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Amedisys Hospice, including Megan Renfro, niece, Lacey Maines, and niece, Brenda Millsaps.

Juanita Johnson Brock, 77, Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Marion C. and Virginia Sheets Johnson. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Townsend; two sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include her children: Earl Johnson, Ernest Brock, Marie Suttles and Mack Brock, all of Elizabethton, and Penny King, Knoxville; 21 Grandchildren; several great and great grandchildren; One Brother: Junior Ward, Elizabethton; Several nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carl Grindstaff officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Highland Cemetery. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, will be: Bobby Allmon, Daniel Allmon, Fidel Compo, James King, Jared Brock and Jerry Bristol. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Earl Johnson, Ernest Brock, Mack Brock, Richard Griffin, Jerry Irick and Daniel Wolhers.

Mary Lee "Purdy" Johnson Harper, 78 of 919 Medical Park Drive, and formally of 1106 Pedro Shoun Lane, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away at the Mountain City Care Center on Saturday May 25, 2019. She was born January 25, 1941, in Shouns, Tennessee to the late Zollie Johnson and Mary Edna Brewer Johnson and in addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Farley Harper and her Grandsons: Joey and Daniel Church, her son in law: Timothy Roark, also 6 brothers: Harold, Dean, Bobby, Harry, Orville and Andrew Johnson and 2 sisters: Grace Harper and Donna Johnson. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Avondale, PA. where she was formally a Sunday school teacher. Purdy loved reading her Bible, singing, making jewelry and spending time with her family.

Survivors are her daughters: Louise McIntire and husband John, Debbie Lipford and husband Warren and Lisa Roark. Sisters: Janette, Darlene, and Judy. Brothers: Junior and Monroe. 11 Grandchildren: Timmy Church, Johnny McIntire, Matthew Roark, Samantha Roark, Timmy Roark, Andrew McIntire, Angie Church, Michael Garland and Kenneth Lipford. 17 Great Grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. Special relatives: Angie Fritts and Junior Johnson.

Funeral Service for Purdy were conducted on Thursday May 30, 2019 at 1 pm in the Charles B. Hux Chapel of Hux Lipford Funeral Home, Daniel Jones was the officiant. The family received friends on Wednesday May 29, 2019 from 6 until 8 pm. Pallbearers were Michael Garland, Kenneth Lipford, Matthew Roark, Timmy Church, and Ryan. Honorary Pallbearers are Junior Johnson and Johnny McIntire.

Orville C. Johnson, age 68, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018. He was born on October 12, 1949 to the late Zollie and Mary Edna Brewer Johnson. In addition to his parents, Orville was preceded in death by a sisters, Donna Lynn Johnson and Grace Harper, brothers, Harold, Bobby, Harry, Dean and Paul Johnson and niece, Teresa Brewer.

Orville loved nature and being outdoors. He especially loved to fish and hunt. Orville enjoyed watching birds, especially his hummingbirds. He loved strawberries. Orville was a former employee of the Johnson County Highway Department.

Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 43 years, Karen Jean Sluder Johnson, daughter, Tracey Renea Miller and husband Shannon, sisters, Mary Harper, Janett Johnson, Judy Roark, Darline Vanover, brothers, J.R. Johnson and Monroe Johnson, grandchildren, Austin Johnson and Adam Miller, special niece, Angie Fritts and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m. with Pastors Ed Vanover and Shannon Courtner. Graveside service and interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Whispering Pine Cemetery (Wilcox Road, Mountain City, TN). Pallbearers will be Shannon Miller, Austin Johnson, Ryan Hurley, Corey Johnson, Edward Vanover and Jonathan Hurley. Honorary pallbearers are J.R. Johnson, Monroe Johnson and Adam Miller.

Judy Louise Roark, age 63, passed away on June 14, 2021 at Johnson City Medical Center. Judy was born on June 11, 1958 to the late Zollie Johnson and Mary Edna Brewer Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Lunceford; sisters, Grace Harper, Mary Harper; brothers, Dean Johnson, Harry Johnson, Orville Johnson, Bobby Johnson, and Andrew Johnson. Judy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading her Bible, going to yard sales, and giving everyone her wonderful hugs. She attended Faith Gospel Church.

Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 25 years, Ernest Roark; sons, Tommy Lunceford and wife Jenetta, Clifford Lunceford; daughter, Tammy Stanley; sisters, Darlene Vanover, Janet Johnson; brothers, Junior Johnson, Monroe Johnson; grandchildren, Dylan, Zachary, Destiny, Jacquelin, Judith, Christopher, Devin, Alex, Elosha, Jonathan Arnold; great grandchildren, Silas, Eliza and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family received friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service followed at 3:00 p.m. with Pastors Berry Dunn and Michael Icenhour officiating. The graveside service will follow the funeral at Johnson Cemetery. Pallbearers were Zachary Lunceford, Wayne Johnson, Dylan Lunceford, Devin Lunceford, Cory Johnson, and Junior Johnson. Honorary pallbearer was Jonathan Arnold.

Teresa Kay Johnson, age 40, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2017. She was born on May 11, 1977 to Jennie Elaine Scott Johnson and the late Harry C. Johnson. In addition to her father, Teresa was preceded in death by her grandparents: Otis and Ola Mae Scott and Zollie and Mary Edna Johnson.

Teresa was a very kind, caring and compassionate person. She loved being a Mom and taking care of her daughter and son. She was of the Baptist faith.

Those left to cherish her memories include her mother, Jennie Johnson; her precious children: Brittany Kay Brewer and Justin James Brewer; sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Bo Fritts; father of her children: Tommy Brewer; nephews: Jacob Harrington and Brady Fritts; special friends: Brian Hicks, Sandra Holman and Lorie Reece; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Steven Spencer officiating.

Graveside Service and Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Johnson Cemetery (off of Cold Springs Road). Pallbearers will be Jacob Harrington, Bo Fritts, Junior Johnson, Ryan Hurley, Kenneth Johnson and Greg Wilcox. Family, pallbearers and friends are asked to meet at Calvary Baptist Church by 2:30 p.m. on Sunday to line up and go in procession to the cemetery.
