    Mrs. Julia Whitehead Miller, 86, Ivy Hall Nursing Home, formerly of Courtyard Apartments, Elizabethton, died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Ivy Hall.
    Mrs. Miller was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Isaac and Cecilia Hughes Whitehead. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Edgar Miller; three brothers; three sisters; a grandson, David Paul Miller; a great-granddaughter, Goldie G. Miller; and her special friend, Sarah Williams.
    Mrs. Miller was a member of Valley Forge House of Prayer. She was a longtime member of WOTM No. 1606.
    Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie R. and Barbara Miller, Elizabethton, and James E. and Stony Miller, Butler; three daughters, Mildred Pittman and Margaret Burchett, both of Indiana, and Barbara Cable, Elizabethton; and a sister, Arizona Hopson, Hampton. Thirteen grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

    MILLER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Whitehead Miller, 86, Ivy Hall Nursing Home, formerly of Courtyard Apartments, Elizabethton, who died Friday, June 27, 2003, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Richardson and the Rev. C.W. Snodgrass officiating. Music will be provided by Brenda Loveless, April Johnson and Tom Swafford. Graveside servicesand interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 30, in the Whitehead Cemetery, Hampton. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Monday, will be Charles Hilton, Andy Hilton, Jason Banner, Gary Smith, John Browbel, Brian Ferrell and Tom Swafford. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Miller II, Steven S. Miller, James D. Miller, Jimmy Whitehead, Rodney Whitehead and Phillip Whitehead.

    Arizona Whitehead Hopson, 85, 6000 Highway 19E, Hampton, died Nov. 25 at her residence.

    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac Taylor "Ike" and Cecie Hughes Whitehead. She was a retired employee in the dietary department of the Hillview Health Care Center. She was a member of the Pearce's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, but attended Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Hopson; five sisters, Julie Miller, Celia Simerly, Nancy Jeanette Hill, Hattie Jane Whitehead and Virginia Kistner; and by seven brothers, Everett, Elmer, Henry Allen, William Earl, Frank Stewart, Clarence and John A. Whitehead. "Mrs. Hopson was the last surviving granddaughter of John and Nancy Snyder Whitehead."

    Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Madlyn and Gary Smith, Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Garry and Carol Hopson, Hampton; 10 grandchildren, Melissa Orman, Garry "Shannon" Hopson, Rachel Tingle, Heather Garrison, Brian Hopson, Donna Hopson, Johnnie Wilson, Jessica Buckles, Trina and Belinda; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dave Morgan officiating. The eulogy will be given by Justin Buckles. Graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Whitehead Cemetery. Music will be provided by the Pearce's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Choir. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, will be Rod Whitehead, Ed Miller, Jimmy Whitehead, John Garrison, Justin Buckles and Dillard Whitehead. Honorary pallbearers will be Herman Hill, Phillip Whitehead, Charlie Whitehead, Leslie Whitehead, Eddie Guinn, Sr., Eddie Guinn, Jr., Barney and Betty McKinney. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to Adventa Hospice, Rod Whitehead, Maxine Hopson, Larry Smith, Dr. Jonathan Bremer, Sarah Whitehead, Herman Hill, friends and neighbors.

    Rod Whitehead, 83, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at his home on November 5, 2021. Born on the 5th of November 1938 at Tiger Creek to Betty Jo Lyons Whitehead and Everett Whitehead, Rod was well-travelled, but lived most of his life in upper East Tennessee with his family. A fierce patriot and leader amongst men, he proudly served 27 years in the military, and was a Gulf War veteran. He was also the State Electrical Inspector for Tennessee for 40 years and was well known and respected throughout the region.
    Rod Whitehead — a man of impact and purpose — will be remembered for many things, but mainly he will be remembered for the strength of his character, his presence, courage, generosity, kindness, warmth, directness, loyalty, humour, and unwavering values. He inspired those around him, freely offering his wisdom and encouragement. One of his favourite sayings was: ‘Everything has a season’. For his part, he lived four full seasons, each of which was blessed by the richness of God’s love, as well as that of his many family members and friends.
    Rod is survived by his wife, Trena G. Whitehead, of 59 years; his two daughters, Wendy Whitehead and Amy R. Whitehead; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Diane Bishop; and three brothers, James (Jimmy), Philip, and Dillard. A loving, protective, and supportive husband, father, friend, brother, cousin, brother-in-law, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather, Rod Whitehead will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

    Phillip Wayne Whitehead, 76, of Elizabethton, passed away on March 17, 2022 at Johnson City Medical Center after a long battle with diabetes and dementia.
    Phillip was a native of Carter County and a graduate of Elizabethton High School, Class of 1964. He was the son of the late Everett and Betty Jo Lyons Whitehead.
    Phillip was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Rod.
    Survivors include his brothers, James “Jimmy” and wife Reba, and Dillard and wife Kathy; his sister, Diane Bishop and husband Jim; and a sister-in-law, Trena.
    Phillip served with the United States Army successfully completing a Wheel and Track Vehicle Course at Fort Knox, Ky. He served in Germany at the rank of E5 and was honorably discharged in 1968. After his military service, he attended ETSU and Steed College majoring in Business, Business Law as well as Finance and Principles of Management.
    There will be a private family service with interment to follow in the Whitehead Family Cemetery.

    PENSACOLA, FL - Charles Elmer Whitehead, 82, Pensacola, Florida passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 at his residence. He was born December 20, 1939 in Hampton, Tenn. To the late Elmer & Effie Holtzsclaw Whitehead. He was a graduate of Hampton High School and East Tennessee State University. Charles retired from the United States Navy after 21 years of service. He was retired as Environmental Services Director of Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He had lived in Florida since 2003. He was a member of the Fil-Am. He was a member of the Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Janet McCorkle.
    Survivors include his wife: Gracita Awa-Ao Whitehead. One Daughter: Gracita (Sharli) Williams and husband Fred, Pensacola, Florida. Two Grandchildren: Chelsea Melber and Charles “Chase” Melber and wife Gaby. One Great Grandson: Martin Melber. Two Sisters: Phyllis Vines and Joyce Matherly. One Brother: Harold Leslie Whitehead.
    Graveside Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2022 in the Whitehead Cemetery, Hampton with the Rev. Gary Edwards officiating. Burial will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    Janet Bernice Whitehead McCorkle, 69, of Martinez, Ga., passed away Monday, June 20, 2016, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born October 13, 1946 in Hampton, Tenn., to the late Elmer and Effie Holtzsclaw Whitehead.
    Janet had lived in Florida and Georgia most of her life. In earlier years, she attended Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church in Hampton.
    Survivors include her daughter, Javonia Oliver Everhart and her husband Mike; two grandchildren, Leanna Powell and Carey Powell and wife Heather; two great-grandchildren, Brian and Jackson Powell; two sisters, Joyce Matherly, Elizabethton, and Phyllis Vines and husband Harry, Elizabethton; and two brothers, Charles Whitehead and wife Grace, Pensacola, Fla., and Leslie Whitehead and wife Gloria, Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    Funeral services for Janet Bernice Whitehead McCorkle will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gary Edwards officiating. Music will be provided by Joel Crisp. Interment will follow in the Whitehead Cemetery, Hampton. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

He was a member of Piercetown Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Joyce Dean "Stony" Miller and a brother: Eddie.

    Survivors include his sons: Lester White, James D. Miller and Stephen S. Miller all of Butler. 8 Grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. Three Sisters: Mildred Pittman and Margaret Burchett both of Indiana and Barbara Cable, Elizabethton. Several nieces & nephews also survive

    Graveside Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Butler Memorial Cemetery with the Pastor Harvey White officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday.

    SUGAR GROVE, Va. — Dubie L. Hayes, 46, lost her battle with Leukemia and went to be with the Lord on November 30, 2017, peacefully at her home.
    Dubie was born in Killeen, Texas and was preceded in death by her father, Eddie Miller; maternal grandparents, Hunter and Pauline Williams; and paternal grandparents, Jim and Julia Whitehead Miller.
    She attended South Fork Baptist Church. She loved gardening and taking care of her goats and three dogs, Jake, Ellie and Nyx.
    Dubie is survived by her husband, Reid Hayes; her children, Samuel and Daniel Bowers and Seth Pate, all of Elizabethton, Tenn.; her mother, Barbara Miller of Elizabethton, Tenn.; sister, Nickie Miller Vincent and husband Jeff of Shelbyville, Tenn.; brother, Eddie Miller II of Elizabethton, Tenn.; nephews, Trenton Hayes and Logan Griffey, and a niece, Tristen Griffey, that she and Reid were raising along with two step-daughters, Morgan Hayes of Alabama and Maggie Kirkbride of Cheyenne, Wyo.; nieces, Hannah Vincent and Emily Vincent Rogers and husband Cory; her mother-in-law, Fran Hayes; and close dear friends, Dawn Trivette, Lori and Jamie Carr, Jamie Goodman and Eddie Henson.
    Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, December 3, at Bradley's Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Kenny Rich officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, prior to services, or anytime at their residence. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at West Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
