JAMES H. COLE FUNERAL TODAY AT HIS HOME
Funeral services for James Henry Cole, nearly 18 years old, will be held from the residence on the Turkeytown road this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The final rites will be in charge of the Rev. James.
The Cole youth, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Cole, died at his home Wednesday morning at 11:15. Burial will be made in the Cole Cemetery.
The boy is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Cole; four sisters, Opal, Silver, Helen and Alder; four brothers, Jessie, Massie, Fred and Williams; three half sisters, Hattie, Della Mae and Mrs. Lucy Heaton; and one half brother, Roy Cole.

Matilda Opal Ledford, 87, 1235 Hillside Drive, Elizabethton, beloved by her family and friends, went home to be with her Lord, on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Ledford was born in Carter County on August 6, 1919 and was the daughter of the late Dan and Mary Robinson Cole. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Wade Ledford on August 13, 1970.

Mrs. Ledford was a former employee of Bemberg Corporation, was a homemaker and a wonderful mother. She loved to quilt, can and take care of her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Ledford is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Rose B. Ledford of the home; Mary Lee and Garfield Williams, Elizabethton; Sue Combs, Roan Mountain, TN; Ruth and Mack Elliott, Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Shirley Ledford, Elizabethton; Dayton and Brenda Ledford, Spindale, NC; three sisters, four brothers, ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and a very special friend, Mrs. Virgie Hardin, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Ledford will be conducted at 7:30 PM, Thursday, February 22, 2007 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Ronnie Edwards officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Howard Holsclaw, Jr. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 23, 2007 in the Cole Cemetery, Lacy Hollow.

EDNA JOE COLE
Edna Joe Cole, 18-months-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Cole, died at her home in the eighth district this morning at 12:15. Funeral services will be held at the home Friday morning at ten o'clock and will be conducted by the Rev. J. J. Musick. Interment will be made in the Cole Cemetery.
The baby is survived by her parents and six brothers, Henry, Jessie, Roy, Massie, Hobert, and Fred; and four sisters, Opal, Silver, Helen and Alta; and three half-sisters, Della Mae, Hattie, and Mrs. Lucy Heaton.

Mrs. Bessie J. Cole Deloach, 98, 1020 Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Lenoir Health Care Center, Lenoir, N.C., following an extended illness.
Mrs. Deloach was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Cameron and Ada Markland Cole. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Egbert Deloach, in 1960; four brothers, Hugh Cole, Frank Cole, Parrott Cole and Charlie Cole; two sisters, Lou Weaver and Elva Morrell; and two stepdaughters, Nellie McConnell and Ethel Messerschmidt.
Mrs. Deloach was retired from the Tennessee Line and Twine Company. She was a charter member of East Side Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Pauline Bradshaw, of the home; a sister, Mary Cole, Elizabethton; a brother, Willie Cole, Elizabethton; a stepdaughter, Ruth Davis, Crystal River, Fla.; and a grandson and his wife, Lee and Linda Bradshaw, Lenoir, N.C. Two great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Hobbs officiating. Music will be under the direction of John Brookshire. Interment will follow the service in the family cemetery. Active pallbearers will be the men of East Side Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert E. Simerly, August 17, 1998, and a son, Howard E. Simerly, January 3, 1993 and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include three daughters and one son-in-law, Helen M. Jess T. Vandyke, 38, died in St. Elizabeth Hospital Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Vandyke was a native of Carter County and was an employee of the T.V.A.
Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Carrie Vandyke; three brothers, James E. Vandyke, Johnson City, Paul D. Vandyke, Elizabethton, and Fred J. Vandyke, Oak Ridge; one sister, Mrs. Roy Guntner, Knoxville; his grandmother, Mrs. Ruthie Romalinger, Elizabethton, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from the home, 703 Wells Street, Thursday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Clarence Howington in charge, assisted by the Rev. Raymond Geisler. Burials will be made in Highland Cemetery.

Rondall H. Heaton, Sr., 82, Watauga passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014 at his home.

A native of Carter County, Rondall was the son of the late Samuel and Lucy Heaton. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren. Mr. Heaton proudly served his country in the United Stated Army. He was a Mason and a Shriner. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and eating.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Heaton and Stu Heaton and two sisters, Wanda Hinkle and Nina Vest.

The family extends a special thank you to Johnson City Medical Center Hospice for the loving care given to Rondall.

The family requests the honor of your presence for a Graveside Service for Mr. Heaton on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 2:30 PM at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home. Nina Loretta Heaton Vest, 71, Elizabethton passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 in the Bristol Regional Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Lucy Cole Heaton. She was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband, Howard Jenair Vest, a son: Jeffery Wayne Vest and a daughter: Tonya Ann Vest. She was a member of the Watauga Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law: Kimberly Korchman and her husband Steve Korchman, Sr., Elizabethton. Two Sons: Jackie Lynn Vest of the home and Daniel Howard Vest and wife Tammy of New York. Three Grandchildren: Jennifer Nicole Campbell and her husband Charles, Steven k. Edith Lois Heaton Dooley, 75, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at her residence. She was born January 2, 1946, in Elizabethton to the late William Samuel and Lucy Ann Cole Heaton. She was retired due to disability as a CNA from Signature Health. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: John Dooley, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her children: Steve Heaton, Tina Christie, John Dooley, Jr., Lucy Dooley, and Wendy Dooley. Five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Several nieces & nephews.
It was her wish to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.

ELIZABETHTON - Mary E. O’Quinn, 80, Elizabethton was reunited with her husband on Sunday, June 20, 2021. She was born in Elizabethton to the late Della Mae Cole Carroll & Denton Carroll. Mary dedicated her life to her children & grandchildren. She enjoyed serving others through her Child Care Center and working at East River Park Christian Church in the Pre-School and Nursery Department. Her favorite past time was reading and spending time with family, whom she loved fiercely. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Herman O’Quinn.

Her legacy lives on through her children: Kim (Tom) Fowler, Tammy (Kenny) Hardin, Judy (John) Fletcher and Danny (Holli) O’Quinn. Her Grandchildren: Korey Hardin, Lacee (Austin) Reed, Cassi Fletcher, Marcus Fowler, Michael (Lily) Fowler, Lindsey (Taylor) LaFever, Patrick O’Quinn, Dawson O’Quinn, Madeline O’Quinn and Emma O’Quinn. Her Great Granddaughter: Kate Reed. Her Brother: James C. Carroll. Her Sisters: Jewel Oliver, Lois (Jim) Starnes and Brenda (Shirley) Bowers. Several nieces & nephews.

Miss Rosie Beatrice Ledford, 75, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 28, 2019, from Signature Healthcare Center of Elizabethton. Rosie was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Homer Wade Ledford and Opal Cole Ledford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dayton Douglas Ledford and Wilford Wade Ledford, and a brother-in-law, Mack Elliott.
Rosie graduated from ETSU and obtained her Master's Degree in Virginia. She retired as an educator, having taught school in Virginia, Kentucky and Florida. She was voted best language arts teacher when she taught in the Virginia School System. She was also a certified meteorologist.
Rosie loved children and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening, playing with children, especially her nieces and nephews, painting and cooking. Rosie also loved animals and liked to listen to folk music and making soap.
Those left to cherish her memory include three sisters, Mary Lee Williams and husband Garfield Williams of Elizabethton, Ellen Sue Combs of Roan Mountain and Helen Ruth Elliott of Elizabethton, and two sisters-in-law, Brenda Kay Ledford of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Shirley Ann Ledford of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Miss Rosie Beatrice Ledford will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 2, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Cole Cemetery, Lacy Hollow Road, Elizabethton, Tenn. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to especially thank the staff and management of Signature Healthcare of Elizabethton for the loving care given to Miss Ledford during her illness.

ELIZABETHTON - John Daniel Ledford, 70, of Elizabethton, died Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at his home.

John was born in Elizabethton, the son of the late Walley Clyde and Sylvia Cole Ledford.

John worked for North American Rayon Corp. for 27 years before his retirement. He was also a housepainter and an avid fisherman.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Ledford; nephew, Matt Ledford; and two infant sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Deborah Ledford, and her two children, Michael George Archer and wife Angela, of Jonesborough, and Rebecca Groves and her fiancé Casey Honeycutt, of Asheville, NC; two brothers, Clyde "Pete" Ledford and his wife Leona and Lonnie Gene Ledford and his wife Becky, all of Elizabethton; nephews, David, Michael, and Daniel Ledford; grandsons, William Fox, Shannon Fox, and Timothy Fox II; great grandson Bentley Morgan Fox; many other beloved family members; and his favorite pet and constant companion, Scooter.

In accordance with John's wishes, there will not be any services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to First Christian Church of Elizabethton, 513 Hattie Ave., Elizabethton, TN 37643.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. James Shipley and nurse Jamie, Sycamore Shoals Hospital and in-home care staff, and Mediserve Medical Equipment. A very special thank you goes to Mountain States Hospice staff and nurses for their exceptional compassion and care.

HUDSON, NC - Mrs. Pauline Bradshaw, 88, of Hudson, NC, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017, in the Hickory Falls Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Carter County and was a daughter of the late Egbert and Bessie Cole Deloach. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Patton Bradshaw. She was a member of the East Side Baptist Church in Elizabethton.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Charlie Lee Bradshaw and his wife, Linda, Hudson, NC; two grandchildren, Chasity Bradshaw, Marion, NC; Richard Bradshaw, Connelly Springs, NC; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Bradshaw will be conducted at Noon on Monday, April 24, 2017, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 11:00 AM '96 12:00 PM on Monday prior to the service.

PINEY FLATS - Carrie Belle Cole Mellons, 96, of Piney Flats, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023, at The Waters of Bristol.

She was born in Piney Flats in 1926 and resided there most of her life.

She was an excellent gardener and crocheter, making Christmas tree ornaments and prayer shawls. Carrie was a faithful member of Edgefield United Methodist Church and a member of the Ladies Bible Class and the Women’s Society. She was retired from North Side Elementary School where she was the cafeteria manager.

Carrie was preceded in death by her parents Pansy (Goforth) and Elbert Cole as well as her husband, George H. Mellons; brothers, George Cole, Earl Cole; granddaughter, Lori Elliott; sons-in-law, Sam Elliott and David Wilkinson.

She is survived by daughters; Janet Elliott, Pansy Wilkinson and Dolores Chapman and her husband Rome Chapman; grandchildren, Christy PeterPaul, Brian Chapman and his wife Heather and Adam Chapman and his wife Emily ; great-granddaughters, Emily Hall, Ambria Turner and Krisalyn Elliott; great grandson, Joseph PeterPaul.

PINEY FLATS - Stephen “Steve” Penix Sr., age 72, of Piney Flats went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 7, 2022 from his home. Steve was born on July 11, 1949, in Piney Flats, TN, to the late Noah Penix and Ethel Perry Penix. In addition to his parents, Steve is preceded in death by his brothers, Carroll Ward and David Ward Senior; his sisters, Evelyn Tharp and Bennie Ward.

Steve was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1969-1971. He was a retired business owner and operator of SP Tool Service and was known for cooking his world-famous BBQ, steaks and baked beans. Steve loved racing Legend and late model car series at the local racetrack and working on his hotrods. He was of the Christian faith and loved his God, his family, his flag and his animals.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 55 years Phyllis of the home; his children, Steve Jr. (Tammera), Teresa, Michelle (Gene), Patrick (Greta); several grandchildren and great grandchildren; his brother, Bill Ward; his sister, Eleanor Feathers; several nieces and nephews.

A service to honor the life of Steve will be conducted on Monday, July 11, 2022 in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Bluff City at 2:00 pm with Chaplain Daniel Winiger officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm through 2:00 pm Monday, July 11, 2022 in the Bluff City chapel prior to the service.

Graveside service and interment will be conducted at the Shell Cemetery in Piney Flats following the funeral service. Active pallbearers will be selected from close family. Honorary pallbearers will be brothers-in-law.

Florence Ella Pearce, 86, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 10, 2022, from Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Florence was born in Elizabethton to the late Hobart Emerson Simerly and Maude Peeks Simerly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Cecil Pearce, and a brother, Howard Simerly.
Florence was a charter member of East River Park Christian Church and also a member of Borderview Christian Church. Florence had worked as a graphic designer for Arcadia Graphics and enjoyed traveling to the beach, line dancing, painting, cooking and catering weddings. Her greatest joy came from spending time and loving on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they were her greatest joy!
Those left to cherish Florence’s memory include her son, Jeff Pearce of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Jordan (Emily) Pearce of Kingsport and Justin (Amanda) Kilby of Jonesborough; three great-grandchildren, Baylee Pearce, Brooklyn Pearce and James Pearce; and two sisters, Helen Simerly of Elizabethton and Mary Lou Kilby of Johnson City. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Florence Ella Pearce will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at Borderview Christian Church with Mr. Scott Fisher, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Scott Reynolds and Ray Don Markland. The family will receive friends at the church from 6 until 7 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service, or at the residence at any time. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Ina Marie Wilson Parlier, 82, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, April 4, 2022, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born March 16, 1939 in Carter County to the late Charles and Ollie Peeks Wilson.
Ina was a graduate of Unaka High School. She was retired from Inland Container after 40 years of service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Scalf; three brothers, Kyle, Edward and Mack Wilson; and two sisters, Faye Shank and Margaret Wilson Jones.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Deana (Craig) Thomas, Travis (Rosella) Scalf and Colt Scalf, all of Elizabethton; six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Abby, Koty, Katy, Kyndal and Kymber; four great-great-grandchildren, Noah, Jaxson, Ellie and Mason; three special nieces, Jennifer Jenkins, Brittany Colbaugh and Martha Cable; and several nephews.
It was her wish to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Brenda Gay Ellis Long, 69, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, March 29, 2019, at her residence following an extended illness.
Born December 28, 1949 in Johnson City to the late Bruce and Betty Thomason Ellis, she had lived her entire life in Elizabethton.
Mrs. Long was a 1969 graduate of Happy Valley High School. She was a member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church where she had served as church organist and Sunday School secretary. She loved sitting on her back porch and spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Robert Lee Long, who passed away May 26, 2017, and a brother, Staff Sgt. Billy Joe Ellis.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Andy Wilson, Teresa and Adam Taylor and Kelly and Bob Carr; seven grandchildren, Kayla and Derrick Wilson and wife Brittney, Austin, Dustin and wife Danielle and Logan Taylor and wife Suesanna and Lucas and Jacob Carr; one great-granddaughter, Sydney Taylor; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Edie Ellis and Frank and Linnie Ellis, all of Elizabethton; and her brothers-in-law, David Long and wife Lori and Chris Long.
The graveside service for Brenda Gay Ellis Long will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 1, in the Smith Family Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Hinshaw and Dr. William Duncan officiating. Music will be provided by Howard and Vivian Hammonds. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be her grandchildren. ELIZABETHTON - Frank Leon Ellis, 67, Elizabethton, went to be with his Lord Thursday, August 11, 2022 at his residence. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Bruce & Betty Lou Thomason Ellis. Frank was a 1972 graduate of Happy Valley High School. He was a retired Residential Estimater with Builders First Source for 40 years. He loved to ride his Motorcycle, play the Guitar, go hunting and fishing. He also loved to build things. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Staff Sgt. Billy Joe Ellis and a sister: Brenda Long. He was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years: Linnie McKeehan Ellis. One Son & Daughter-in-Law: Phillip & Anna Ellis, Elizabethton, One Daughter & Son-In-Law: Brittnay & Dustin Stout, Elizabethton. ELIZABETHTON - Jerlean Carr Peters, age 71, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Monday, September 30, 2019 from her residence, following a long battle of sickness.

Jerlean was born in Carter County to the late Wesley and Beatrice Ellis Carr.

Jerlean was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was employed at Kennemetal from 1996 to 2006 and loved anything to do with being outdoors- fishing, gardening and spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Dahl Peters, of the home; her children, Lisa Mintz and husband Harry, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Angela Peters, of Kingsport, TN and Jonathan Peters, of the home; her grandchildren, Benjamin Mintz and Samuel Mintz; and one sister, Joyce Davis, of Elizabethton, TN.

A service to celebrate the life of Jerlean Carr Peters will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 4, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Kenneth Jordan, officiating. Linda Paulette Matherly Humphrey, 72, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, January 18, 2019, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Bate and Ina Ellis Matherly.
Mrs. Humphrey was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Kenneth Humphrey; one daughter, Lisa Humphrey; one granddaughter, Alisha Sexton; and several nieces and nephews.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Cecil Lacy & Lois Theresa Cole Mottern. He was a 1961 graduate of Elizabethton High School. Terry served in the United States Navy. He was a heavy equipment operator. Terry loved to fish.

Survivors include his children: Chevelle (Glenn) Parks, Knoxville and Camera Paterek, Atlanta, Georgia. Two Grandchildren: Noah Parks and Bailey Parks. One Brother: Tony (Marion) Mottern, Watauga. One Sister: Linda Mottern, Watauga.

She was born in Johnson City, TN and was the daughter of Janet Mellons Elliott, Piney Flats, TN and the late Samuel Harold Elliott Jr. She was an employee of Associated Pain Specialists in Gray and she was a member of Edgefield United Methodist Church in Piney Flats. Lori loved her daughters and was very devoted to them.
