Gladys "Gerry" Stout, 74, of Butler (Poga Community), passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017, at her residence. Gerry was born in Avery County, N.C., to the late William and Ora Trivette Estep. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mattison E. Stout; one son, David T. Stout; and several brothers and sisters.
Gerry was a homemaker and a member of Stout Hill Church of Christ. She loved to cook, bake and decorate cakes, gardening and spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three sons, Michael Stout and wife Melinda, of Michigan, Greg Stout and wife Karen, of the Poga Community of Butler, and Mattison "Scooter" Stout and fiancée Sarah Gentry, of Butler; two daughters, Sharon Stout and Claude Banner, of Butler, and Tammie Ferguson and husband Kevin, of Butler; 11 grandchildren, Kimberly Anderson and husband Michael, Mikey Stout, Robert Stout, Sarah Poss and husband Justin, Kaylee Stout, Josh Stout, Savannah Stout, Alexis Christian, Rusty Christian, Natasha Schoffner and Aislinn Ferguson; two great-grandchildren, Michael Anderson Jr. and her special great-grandson, Jace Stout; one brother, Ronald Estep and wife Roberta, of New York; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Gladys "Gerry" Stout will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 28, at Stout Hill Church of Christ with Mr. Donnie Cable, minister, officiating. Music will be provided by the church choir. The family will receive friends at the church anytime on Friday, January 27, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service will follow in the Stout Hill Cemetery, Butler (Poga Community). Active pallbearers will be Jessie Cable, Ellis Cable, Dale Cable, Lloyd Cable, Gary Cable and Brad Dugger. Thomas "Joe" Estep, age 62, formerly of Hudson, NC, passed away Monday, March 26, 2007 in Camelot Manor Nursing Facility, Granite Falls, NC following an extended illness. He was a native of Avery County, NC and a son of the late Will and Ora Trivette Estep. Mr. Estep had attended Beech Mountain Baptist Church. He was formerly employed in furniture manufacturing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Rosie Greene, Marie Mitchell and Margaret Estep and one brother, William Creed Estep. Survivors are his wife, Shirley Ollis Estep, Hudson, NC, one daughter, Kimberly Estep, Lenoir, NC, one grandson, Christopher Estep, one granddaughter, Katie Carty, both of Lenoir, NC, four sisters and one brother-in-law, Jean and Herman Guy, Hudson, NC, Gerry Stout, Butler, TN, Ruth Ollinger, Johnson City, TN, Anna Lee Driscoll, Manchester, MI, and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ronald and Roberta Estep, Barker, NY, Jim and Denise Estep ,KY. And Barney Trivette, Johnson City, Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Estep will be conducted on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Dean Estep, Minister, officiating. Interment will follow in McGuire Cemetery, Elk Park, NC. Active pallbearers will be chosen from Family and friends. Helen Louise Campbell, 74, of Johnson City, died Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was a native of Washington County, daughter of the late Terry Alcord Trivett, Sr. and Esther G. Oakes Trivett.

Helen was a retired employee of the Mazer Corporation.

In addition to her parents, a son, Jerry Dean Earhart, Jr. and a sister, Ruby Barnett preceded her in death.

Survivors include: her three daughters, Brenda and Tim Cash, Johnson City, Sandra and Gordon Presnell of Rogersville and Bridgett Campbell of Johnson City; three brothers, James Trivett, Jonesborough, T. A. Trivett, Jr. and Catherine of Johnson City and Joe and Patsy Trivett of Piney Flats; a sister, Louella and Gary Jackson of Johnson City; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, July 3, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. at the Morris-Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Pastor Richard Wise.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until time of service at 8:00 p.m. A committal service will be conducted on Saturday, July 4, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Jerry (Hoot) Trivett, age 80, of Newland, NC passed away on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, at his home.

He was born on April 15, 1939, in Newland, NC, a son of the late Charles Edgar Trivett and the late Vergie Daniels Trivett.

He was preceded in death by his Parents; Wife: Becky Trivett; Three Sisters: Margie Carpenter, Florence Pitman, Helen Collis; and one Brother: Dennis Trivett.

Jerry loved hunting, fishing and enjoyed taking care of his Christmas tree farm. He loved every minute that he got to spend with his family, especially his great grandchildren. He also liked to watch Western movies.

Jerry leaves behind to cherish his memory his Daughter: Tameula Trivett of Mountain City, Tenn.; Son, Jerry (Greta) Trivett of Newland, NC; Brother, Joe (Priscilla) Trivett of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; Brother: Ronnie (Caron) Trivett of Montezuma, NC, Brother, Cotton Trivett of Shelby, NC, Brother: Jack (Debbie) Trivett of Newland, NC; Grandson: Benjamin (Kimberly) Trivett of Newland, NC; Granddaughter: Kathryn Trivett of Charlotte, NC, Granddaughter, Kella (Crockett) Trivett of Newland, NC; Great Grandchildren: Robert, Evan, Harvest, Honor, Nace, Carli, and Cropper, and several nieces and nephews.

Services for Jerry (Hoot) Trivett will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Trivett officiating.

The family will receive friends beginning at 5 p.m. up until the service hour at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at Daniels Cemetery.

Ben Allen Greene, age 74, of Stoney Hollow Road, Elk Park, passed away Thursday afternoon, Nov. 21, 2019, at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tenn.

Ben was born Sept. 1, 1945, in Avery County, a son of the late Geter and Rosa Estep Greene. He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church. He loved his Lord and Savior and he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially the biggest blessing of his life, his great-grandchildren. He also had many friends too numerous to mention.

He is survived by his Wife: Jackie Greene of the home; one Daughter: Angela Abrams and husband Stephen of Kitty Hawk, NC; one Son: Brandon Lambert of Atlanta, Ga.; two Granddaughters, whom he raised: Ashley Bunten and husband Josh and Sarah Isaacs, all of Elk Park; one Son-in-law: Chad Isaacs of Vilas; three Grandsons: Nicholas Dugger of Butler, Tenn., Benjamin Abrams, and Dylan Abrams, both of Kitty Hawk; four Great-granddaughters: Harley Potter, Jada Mae Isaacs, Kimberly Bunten, and Adeline Bunten; two Great-grandsons: Landon Bunten and Titus Isaacs; three Sisters: Ruth Harmon and husband Ken of Sugar Grove, and Blanche Williams of Butler, Tenn., Kay Ward and husband Dennis of Elk Park; one Sister-in-law: Joyce Dugger of Butler, Tenn.; one Brother-in-law: Elbert Ward of Elk Park; one Son-in-law: Barry Oliver of Sugar Grove and one Uncle, Ronald Estep of Buffalo, NY.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one beloved Daughter: Kimberly Greene Oliver; a Brother and Sister-in-law: Reed Greene and his wife Edith; a Sister: Sally Ward; two Brothers-in-law: James Williams and Edward Lambert, and a Niece: Deanna Hicks.

Funeral services for Ben Allen Greene were conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body lay in state at the chapel, from 10 to 11 a.m. Officiating was Pastor Derrick Wilson and Pastor Dean Estep. Burial followed in the Abe Trivette Cemetery in Butler, Tenn.

Robert James Trivett Sr., age 85, of Matthews, North Carolina went to his heavenly home on Saturday, February 12th, 2022. Robert was born in Avery County, N.C. on August 21st, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents Eldridge and Mamie Oakes Trivett, siblings Clarence, Betty, Lee and Doris also his daughters Melinda and Shannon. Survived by his loving wife of 59 years Thelma (nee Grammer), sons Robert Jr. (wife Jan) and Steve (wife Veda), grandsons Christopher, Michael and Joshua, granddaughter Lizzy. He was an Air Force veteran and a faithful member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church (Long/Jones S.S. class). He enjoyed traveling with friends and family and attending Southern Gospel music concerts.
A visitation for Robert will be held Saturday, February 19th, 2022, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28227. A celebration of life service will follow at 3:00 pm. A private interment will occur Monday, February 21st, 2022, in Newland, N.C.

Douglas McArthur Vance, 77, of Avery County went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 while at home, surrounded by his family watching the birds and his grandchildren play. He was born on Sept. 2, 1942, in Mitchell County, NC to the late Jasper Hayden Vance and Carrie Ella Trivett Vance. “Mac” was a 1961 graduate of Crossnore High School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Sisters: Verna Sue Vance, Vida Carpenter, Georgie Lee Prather and Selma Vance. He was also preceded in death by his Sister: Alice Vance; Sister: Thelma Vance and Brother: Daniel Vance, who died in infancy.

Doug leaves behind to cherish his memory in love, a large family: his Wife: Patsy F. Vance; and Children: Deborah and Robbie Vance of Stamey Branch and Curtis Vance of Nebo; his Grandchildren: Cassie Vance and Thomas Taylor Jr. of Land Harbor, Caitlyn Vance and husband John Klinedinst II of Moore, Okla., Ella Singleton and husband Josh Singleton of Linville, Curtis Vance Jr. and wife Abigail Vance of Newland, Zachary Vance, Macie Vance and Autumn Vance; and his Great-grandchildren: Conner Brewer, Abby Brewer, Hadley Klinedinst, Emmaline Singleton, Ethan Singleton, Karson Whitehead and Karter Vance. He is also survived by his three Brothers and Sister: Ted Vance of Morganton, Hayden Vance of Stamey Branch, Joe Vance of Morganton, and Brenda Clements of Rutherford College, NC, as well as extended Family: Harriet Coffee of Charlotte, Lisa Miller of Valdese, and numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and close loved ones of the Vance Family.

In his early life Douglas enjoyed listening to music, watching and playing various sports and helping his parents on the farm. He met the love of his life and married her on May 16, 1964. Together Doug and Patsy built a strong and close family that Douglas dedicated his life to supporting. He retired from carpentry in 2002 when he was 60 years old and since enjoyed playing with his dog Caesar, watching birds, old western movies and preaching, listening to bluegrass and gospel music, playing with his great grandchildren and enjoying his time with his siblings.

He will be remembered by many members of the community as a loving and kind man that loved his Lord our Savior and his family.

Visitation was held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at Stamey Town Missionary Baptist Church followed by Funeral Services and graveside rights at Stamey Town Community Cemetery in the Stamey Branch Community, with Rev. Russel Hoilman & Rev. Tommy Carver officiating. Special singing services will be done by Mac's Niece, Nikki Prather and Son, Curtis Vance with his church men’s choir group “The Guys” from Marion First Freewill Baptist. EJ of Piper Jones will be providing special musical services as well.

Sylvia Trivett Hubble, age 68, of Jonas Ridge, NC, went to be with Jesus and her parents in Heaven on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, NC.

She was born on June 23, 1949, in Mitchell County, NC, a daughter of the late Roger Trivett and Lily Vance Trivett.

She was preceded in death by her Parents; her first husband: Sylvester "Roger" Clark; and her beloved pet, Chico.

Sylvia was a volunteer for Linville Central Rescue Squad for many years. She also enjoyed all of her animals, needlepoint, flowers, gardening and woodworking. She was very artistic and she enjoyed helping raise her grandchildren. She enjoyed to listen to Southern Gospel music.

Funeral Services for Sylvia Trivett Hubble will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, from the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with John Beach officiating.

The family will receive friends beginning at 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 21, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Daniels Cemetery following the funeral service on Tuesday May 22, 2018.
