...66, died at Kennedy Veterans Hospital in Memphis last Wednesday after an illness of two months.
Stout was a native of Johnson county and a farmer. He was a former trustee of Johnson county, former road commissioner, a veteran of World War I, member of the American Legion, member of the Civitan Club here, and a member and deacon of the Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth Jones Stout; two sons, M-Sgt. Ruben Stout, Fort Bragg, N.C., and Bert Stout, Columbia, S.C., Mrs. Mary Alice Johnson, Knoxville; Mrs. Ann Greer, Butler; one foster daughter, Mrs. Pansy Phipps, Knoxville, one step-son, Capt. Fred Jones, USAF, Enid, Okla., one sister, Mrs. J. Frank Stout, Mountain City; two brothers, Dr. P. D. Stout, Bristol, and George W. Stout, Mountain City; 17 grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. from Bethel Baptist Church on Saturday with Rev. Tom Worley, Rev. Sam Tatum and A. E. Browne officiating. Burial was in the Stout cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Vaughn Stout, Bruce Roberts, Edgar Bumgardner, Rex Stout, Teddy Pierce, John A. Shown, Delmar Lowe, and Ralph Grandstaff. Flower bearers were neighbors and ladies of the church.
Honorary pallbearers were: R. J. Howard, Sr., Henry Smythe, W. D. Day, O. D. Dotson, D. M. Spurgeon, Ralph Stout, Robert Marshall, James Muse, R. D. Fritts, Dayton Payne, R. B. Walsh, Sr., Lewis May, Clyde Morley, J. W. Jordan, Dr. R. O. Glenn, Dr. Shelburn Wilson, Frank Shupe, and Artrow Greer.
John married Etoila Bell Hicks about 1921 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee. Etoila (daughter of Rev. William Henry Hicks and Mary Ann Frazier) was born in Oct 1895 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 3 Mar 1957 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Stout Cemetery, , Johnson County, Tennessee.
