Lela Ensor Bailey, 95, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Jessie White Ensor. Mrs. Bailey was a graduate of Unaka High School, East Tennessee State College and received her Master's of Education from Oklahoma State University. Her career in teaching started at Midway Elementary School on Stoney Creek. She moved to Louisville, Ky., where she taught school in Jefferson County for over 20 years. She returned to Stoney Creek 30 years ago. She was a member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Bailey; five sisters, Amelia Nidiffer, Mary "Poll" Ensor, Tilda Grindstaff, Dorothy "Dot" Kress and Ruth Garrison; and five brothers, John, Dan, Ben, Cecil and Jim Ensor. Survivors include a son, George Robert Bailey and wife Porter Watkins, Louisville, Ky.; a step-son, Kenneth Bailey, Louisville, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Lela Ensor Bailey will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, February 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. Evelyn Delilah (Ensor) Brizzolara passed away at Share Medical Center in Alva, Oklahoma, on November 24, 2019 after a short illness.

She was a devoted wife and loving mother; she was a friend to all whose lives she touched. She was a homemaker, and an active community volunteer.

Born in Alva on May 10, 1934, she was the daughter of Dr. Daniel B. and Mrs. Grace Ensor. Her very early years were spent in Hopeton where her father had a medical practice. Her family relocated to Alva where she finished school and graduated with the Class of 1951. After attending Northwestern Oklahoma State University for her freshman year, she transferred to Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, Louisiana where she earned a B.A. in Anthropology and became a lifelong jazz enthusiast.

Evelyn traveled extensively in Europe with her mother during and shortly after her college days. While in France, she was frequently mistaken for the actress Leslie Caron. She and her mother enjoyed the offer of free taxi rides and other tokens resulting from this mistaken identity. Always adventurous, she later explored behind the Iron Curtain in communist Yugoslavia.

She married Raymond E. Tompkins with whom she had three children. She worked as an advocate in the children's court in Oklahoma County.

She met and married Harold (Hal) Brizzolara from San Mateo, California in 1964.

Hal and Evelyn and their children settled in northern California where they were blessed with the birth of another son. Evelyn made a loving home and set a model of community service for her children. An active Pink Lady volunteer for the local hospital as well as a Cub Scout/Girl Scout leader, she served for a number of years on the Nevada County School Board and oversaw the building of a new elementary school for the community. She was also active in Republican politics. In 1974 Evelyn, Hal, and their children moved to Alva where Hal had purchased an accounting practice.

Evelyn was a longtime member of P.E.O, the Cherokee Outlet Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Order of the Eastern Star of the State of Oklahoma, and Holly Club. She continued volunteer service through Meals-on-Wheels, as chairman of the Alva Cemetery Board, and other public and church related activities. For many years, she served on the board of directors of the Hopeton State Bank.

She was an avid crafter and quilter, winning many awards for her quilts. An enthusiastic book collector of signed, first edition mysteries and espionage fiction, she traveled extensively with Hal throughout the Southwest and California seeking out treasures for their collection.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her elder sister, Dana, as well as by her infant son, Michael. She is survived by her husband, Hal, of the home, and her children Chris Brizzolara of Santa Monica, California, Kay Brizzolara and husband PJ Pronger III of Amarillo, Texas, and Jeff Brizzolara and his wife Kelli of Dallas, Texas, and their respective children: PJ Pronger IV and wife Beth of Amarillo, Texas, Lauren Pronger of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Parker, Presley, and Palmer Brizzolara of Dallas, Texas.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2019 in the Ensor Cemetery with Father Timothy Holder officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family.

Mrs. Velma L. Ensor Davis, 86, Pine Ridge Health Center, formerly of 171 Davis Hollow Road, Elizabethton died Friday, March 16, 2007 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Kress Ensor. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and she was a member of Dungan's Chapel Baptist Church. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Kress Ensor. She was a retired school teacher. Mrs Bishop was a 1948 graduate of Unaka High School and received a BS Degree in Elementary Education from Milligan College. She had taught at Unaka Elementary, Buladean Elementary and Midway Elementary Schools. She was a member of the Carter County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Bishop was a member of the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Chalmer Bishop, two sisters: Velma Davis and Moilee Lewis and three brothers: Elbert Kress, Robert and Ivan Ensor.

Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law: Dinah & Richard Babb, Elizabethton. Two Grandchildren: Amanda Estep and husband Rickey, James Babb and wife Ashley. One Great Grandson: Clayton Estep. Aubrey Frank Ensor, 88, Elizabethton, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, December 17, 2019. He was born September 06, 1931, to John and Mary Kress Ensor, Elizabethton, Tennessee, where he grew up. He served in the United States Army in the Korean War Conflict. He was retired from Tri-State Container. He was an avid sportsman and loved to fish, hunt, and watch sports.

He was a member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church where he loved his Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Ida Connelly, Velma Davis, Rob Ensor, Ivan Ensor, Moilee Lewis, Ella Mae Bishop, and Glen Ensor. He is survived by a brother Dennie Ensor and sister Jesseline Ensor.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Onnie Jemema Lowe Ensor. His children, Sandra and husband Mike Patrick, Clarksville, Tn. Debbie Heaton and husband Eric, Elizabethton, Amy and husband Tank Morrell, Elizabethton and Audra and husband David Wood, Elizabethton. He loved his four grandchildren Brittany Heaton, Cody and Sasha Cornett, Chelsea Wood, Matthew Wood and fiancée Chelsea Grubb. Glen served in the United States Army and was a retired employee of Inland Container after 36 years of service. He was an active member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Velma Davis, Ida Conley, Ella Mae Bishop and Moilee Lewis, and three brothers, Ivan Ensor, Robert Ensor and Elbert Kress.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Pauline Wilson Ensor; a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Mick Kyte, Blountville; one granddaughter, Taylor Elizabeth Kyte; one sister, Jesselene Ensor; two brothers, Aubrey and Denny Ensor; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Glen Ensor will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. A native of Carter County, Aunt Shotty, as everyone called her, was the daughter of the late John and Mary Kress Ensor. She was a life-long homemaker. Shotty loved to garden, sew, play the piano, and cook. She left behind a legacy of love and compassionate care that she provided to multiple family members, including her parents and siblings. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by nine siblings, Velma Davis, Ida Conley, Ella Mae Bishop, Moilee Lewis, Aubrey Ensor, Robert Ensor, Elbert Ensor, Ivan Ensor and Glen Ensor.
Survivors include her only living brother, Dennie and wife Ruby; one sister-in-law, Jemema Ensor; several nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews and a special great-great-nephew, Clayton Estep.
The graveside service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, in the Kress Cemetery, in Hurley Hollow, with Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. Music will be provided by Eric and Debbie Heaton. Grace was a graduate of Unaka High School. She had lived in Dublin, Va., for 32 years before returning to Elizabethton. She was a member of the Eastern Star and of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Pierce, November 3, 2008; two brothers, Bill and Ralph Ensor; and three sisters, Georgia Quick, Mae Richardson and Rita Roth.
Survivors are her two children, Steven Pierce and wife Genia, Elizabethton, and Donna Pierce Scofield and husband Don, Rutherfordton, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Karen Pierce, Emily White and husband Bryan, all of Elizabethton, Hope Scofield, Winston-Salem, N.C., Jessie, Kate, William and Zachary Scofield, all of Rutherfordton, N.C.; three brothers, Henry Wayne Ensor and wife Cynthia, Charles "Cobby" Ensor and Edward "Pookie" Ensor, all of Elizabethton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alma "Tops" Kehrli, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2017, at Johnson City Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Tops was the widow of T/Sgt Herbert Kehrli and the eldest daughter of the late Robert "Bo" and Tilda Grindstaff. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Eldon and Lloyd Grindstaff, and sisters, Clara (infant), Lela Pearl Southerland, Bertie Ruth Milhorn and Mary "Monk" Lewis; brothers-in-law, Lee Southerland and Norman Kehrli; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Grindstaff.
Tops is survived by three daughters, Alice Marie Pendergast (Mike), of Cullowhee, N.C., Ann Taylor (Javy), of Elizabethton, and Debbie Bishop, of Johnson City; and six grandchildren, Aaron Pendergast (Teresa), Brandon Pendergast (Stephanie), Julie Phillips (Adam), Courtney Taylor, Jaclyn Wilson (Chris) and Tara Collins (Davey). Her great-grandchildren include Lauren Pendergast, Kelly Pendergast, TJ Rose, Caleb Phillips, Evan Phillips, Kimberly Proffitt, Mason Wilson and Aubrey Collins. She also has a great-great-grandchild, Bentley Rose. Surviving sisters and brothers include Lois Carver (Roger), Virginia Grindstaff, Owen Grindstaff (Dee) and Marvin Grindstaff. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Lolita Kehrli, and brothers-in-law, John Lewis and Bill Milhorn, as well as son-in-law, Denny Bishop. Nieces and nephews include Joyce Salyer (Roy), Lisa Pierce (Phil), Michael Southerland (Joan) and Karen Southerland (Brian).
Tops remained the widow of T/Sgt Herbert Kehrli, killed in action in Viet Nam in 1968, until the time of her passing. She dedicated her time to raising her three daughters. She was blessed with the gift of hospitality and loved nothing more than having a house full of family and friends to cook for. She was a lifelong member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church. Tops loved her church family and her "pew-buddy," Billy Bob Garrison.
Funeral services for Alma "Tops" Kehrli will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 11, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Services will be officiated by Rev. Eric Heaton. Music will be provided by Dale Williams, soloist, and Joyce Salyer. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or any time at her daughter, Ann's, home. Interment will immediately follow the service at Ensor Cemetery. ELIZABETHTON — Robert Elmer "Bug" Ensor, 78, Elizabethton passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Robert Cecil & Cora Ellen Gentry Ensor. He was a 1957 graduate of Unaka High School. He was also a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theology Seminary with a degree in Music & Religion Education.

He was retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. HE served in the Vietnam Era. Robert was a member of the Lynn Valley Baptist Church. He loved writing poetry and sharing his gift with others. He also loved music and working with children.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Raymond Ensor; mother and father-in-law, Van & Jewell Edwards; and a sister-in-law, Elaine.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Frank Ensor; three brothers, Howard Ensor and wife Jewel, C. L "Chug" Ensor and wife Laurie and Ernest "Pete" Ensor and wife Kathy; three sisters, Marie Oxendine and husband Tom, Ruby Corder, and Lynda Kaye Vaughn and husband Tom; his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ensor, Nyoka Ensor and Evelyn Beschke; a brother-in-law, Roberts Edwards. C. Lee "Chug" Ensor, 76, of Clarksville, Tenn., passed into Heaven on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at his home. He was born on March 28, 1940, to Cecil and Cora Ellen Ensor.
Mr. Ensor graduated from Unaka High School in 1958. He joined the Army and retired many years later.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Stanley, Raymond and Robert "Bug" Ensor; and two nephews, Randy and Ricky Ensor.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 36 years, Laura Schlosser Ensor; three sons, Chad and Gregory, of the home, and Michael Ensor, daughter-in-law, Kim Ensor, granddaughter, Danielle Ensor, all of Elizabethton; two brothers, Howard (Jewel) Ensor and Ernest "Pete" (Kathy) Ensor; three sisters, Marie (Tom) Oxendine, Ruby Corder and Lynda (Tom) Vaughn; and three sisters-in-law, Phyllis, Nyoka and Joyce Ensor; one uncle, Frank (Evelyn) Gentry. He is also survived by his in-laws, Bryan (Diana) Schlosser, Deborah (Chuck) Tesnow, Gary (Janet) Schlosser, John (Joan) Schlosser and Kevin Schlosser. Many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces also survive.
A memorial service for "Chug" will be held at Dungan Chapel Baptist Church, Elizabethton, Tenn., on Sunday, March 19, at 2 p.m. with Military Honors.

ELIZABETHTON - Evelyn Marie Ensor Oxendine, 76, Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord, Friday, March 15, 2019 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Cecil & Cora Ellen Gentry Ensor. Marie was a 1961 graduate of Unaka High School. She was a retired employee of Kingsport Press after 18 years of service. She was very active in her church, Dungan Chapel Baptist Church, where she had been a Sunday School Teacher, Member of the Church Choir, served as church clerk and active in the WMU for several years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Stanley, Raymond, Robert & C. Lee Ensor and two nephews: Randy & Ricky Ensor.

Survivors include her husband: Tom Oxendine, Two Sisters: Lynda Vaughn & husband Tom and Ruby Corder all of Elizabethton. Two Brothers: Howard Ensor & wife Jewell and Ernest "Pete" Ensor & wife Kathy. A special Nephew: Ronnie Ensor, a host of friends, neighbors, nieces & nephews. Her Sisters-In-Law; Phyllis Ensor, Joyce Ensor and Laura Ensor.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Eric Heaton and Pastor Sammy Ray Oxendine. Interment will follow in the Ensor Cemetery. Music will be provided by Sacred Journey Quartet. Active Pallbearers will be: Tommy Vaughn, John Corder, James "Bo" Ensor, Michael Ensor, Greg Crowe, Jason Ensor and Ronnie Ensor.

Sturgill Lewis, 87, Elizabethton, went to be with the Lord, Thursday September 29, 2016 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Roy & Clara Pierce Lewis. Sturgill was a local businessman for several years. He was a long time member of Gateway Baptist Church, Bristol and more recent a member of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Yvonne Fowler and a brother: Orville Lewis.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years: Evelyn Carden Lewis. Four Children: Cathy (David) Grindstaff, Paula (Gary) Vance and Daniel (Gina) Lewis all of Elizabethton and Peter (Becky) Lewis, Rutherfordton, North Carolina. His Grandchildren: Micah Lewis, Ashleigh Lewis, Jonathan Grindstaff, Chad Grindstaff, Jeremy McCann, Tyler McCann, Madison Lewis, Parker Lewis, Jacob Feaster and Kaya Feaster. His Great Grandchildren: Andrew Grindstaff, Emery Grindstaff, Cameron McCann, Landon McCann, Addyson Lewis and Keegan Lewis. His Sister: Kathleen Glover. Several nieces & nephews.

Kathleen J. Glover, Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on May 13th, 2021 at the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Clara Pierce Lewis. She was also preceded in death by her husband William Robert Glover, a Son Eric Sage Glover, a sister Yvonne Fowler, and two brothers Orville Lewis and Sturgill Lewis. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bob & Molly Glover. Six Grandchildren, Leslie Luttrell(Robert), Rob Glover(Carrie), Brian Glover(Jessica), Weston Glover, Seth Glover and Ethan Glover. Two great-grandchildren, Emma, Nora and Jackson Glover. Several nieces and nephews. A private service for the family was previously held.

ELIZABETHTON - Steven Gene Pierce, 65, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020 at his residence.

A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Billy Gene & Bernice Grace Ensor Pierce. Steven was a 1972 graduate of Unaka High School and 1978 graduate of East Tennessee State University with a degree in Surveying Technology. He was founder & operator of Iron Mountain Surveying for 30 years. He was a retired fireman with the Johnson City Fire Department after 29 years of service. He was an avid musician and outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, playing the guitar and gardening. Steven was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge # 238 and Carter Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years: Genia Peters Pierce. Two Children: Karen Pierce and special friend, Aaron Taylor, and Emily White & husband Bryan. One Grandson: Isaac White. A Sister: Donna Scofield & husband Don. Five Nieces & nephews: Hope, Jessie, Kate, Will and Zach.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Donald G. Scofield officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Blevins Cemetery with Pastor Don Brandon officiating.
