Mrs. Emma C. Potter died at one o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home, Butler, route 2. Mrs. Potter was 76 years old and a member of the Elk Mills Christian Church.
Survivors are her husband, William H. Potter; one daughter, Mrs. Sarah Hollyfield of Shell Creek; six sons, Millard and Harrison of Butler route 2, George and Ted of Butler, Blain of Heaton; and Dewey of Elizabethton; one brother, Bill Stout, route 2, Butler; and 38 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the home with the Rev. John Mathis of Valley Forge officiating. Burial will be made in the family cemetery.

Theodore Roosevelt Potter, 94, 137 Ted Potter Road, Butler, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, in the Asbury Center, Johnson City, following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late William and Emma Stout Potter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dovie Irene Potter, Nov. 10, 1998, a daughter, Grace Cable, in 1996, two sons: Ray and Ralph Potter; a sister, Sarah Hollifield; five brothers: Bronlow, Harrison, Millard, Blaine and George Potter. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Stone Mountain Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War I. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law: Larry Potter, of the home; Dennis and Wanda Potter, Elk Park, N.C.; and James "Red" and Betty Glover, Hampton; five daughters and three sons-in-law: Gayle Ashley, Mary and Howard Estep, all of Elizabethton; Linda Potter, Betty and Daniel Hill, all of Johnson City; Ruth and Wayne Harmon, Butler. Shirley Faye Long, 84, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 8, 2022, from her residence. Shirley was born in Canebreak, W.Va., to the late George Washington Stout and Lucy Alice Oaks Stout. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Holsclaw; her second husband, Roy Clyde Long; and her brothers and sisters, Myrtle, Hilda, Clyde, Dewey, Carl, Pauline, George, Dorothy, Frankie, Arthur, JoAnn, Sonny and Leland.
Shirley was a homemaker and loved her children dearly; she also loved her church, music and singing. She had actually sang with Southern Harmony. Shirley had a strong work ethic and had held several jobs and in each one, she gave her all. She had worked at furniture manufacturing, Magnavox and in the kitchen at Hampton Elementary School. Shirley was an excellent cook and loved baking cakes and treats.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jimmy Holsclaw, Danny Holsclaw, Angela Ward, Christopher Holsclaw, Crystal Aleman and Regina Crowder; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Christine and Faye. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A celebration of life for Shirley Faye Long will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 13, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Willie Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 14, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Jerry Holsclaw, Josh Holsclaw, Austin Young, Stephen Acuna, Ariel Aleman, Kenny Crowder, John Chase and Steve Nelson.

Mrs. Margaret Stout Reynolds, 82, of Mint Hill, NC and formerly of Elizabethton, TN, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Lake Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Cumberland, KY, to the late Madison and Cynthia Oaks Stout. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Reynolds; 2 infant brothers; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Mrs. Reynolds was a lifetime member of the PTA, Carter County Home Demonstration Club, and very involved at East River Park Christian Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Minott and husband Bob Mint Hill, NC; son, Terry Reynolds and wife Becky of Ft. Mill, SC; grandchildren, Benjamin Reynolds and wife Elizabeth, Scott Reynolds and wife Gina, Hollye Sammons and husband Brian, Ashleigh Cupp and husband Brandon, Michelle Gregory, Joseph Minott and wife Katie, and Jeffrey Minott and wife Lauren; 19 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters, Mary Whittenbarger of Lynch, KY, and Shirley Johnson of Johnson City, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Reynolds will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday, June 5, 2013 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. John Smith, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Wednesday.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 9:00 AM Thursday, June 6, 2013, in Reynolds Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Franklin Taylor, John Watkins, Woody Crowder, Jack Younce, Bill Sidebottom, John Crawford, Donald Worthington, Grady Fair, Cecil Carr, Larry Reynolds, Charles Plummer, and Jack Harris. Hazel was born on December 29, 1912, in the Elk Mills community of Carter County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Alvin Stout and Fannie Andrews Stout.

On August 16, 1930, Hazel married Harry Shultz McCloud. They had six children: Peggy, Bud, Derl, Jerry, Bill and Jackie. She "loved her children and we knew it," said Derl.

The entire family worked on the farm and helped with household chores, and they did not have a lot of leisure time. However, they owned a hand-cranked phonograph and listened to the radio. Hazel also enjoyed reading detective stories she ordered through the mail, and she taught herself to play the piano. All the family were members of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church.

After the children were grown, Harry and Hazel loved to take long drives on Sundays; they would drive as far as they could in one day and make it back home. They often drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Dennis Potter, age 71, of Buckeye Road, Elk Park, passed away Thursday evening, February 15, 2018, at his home.

Dennis was born Feb. 24, 1946, in Carter County, Tenn., a son of the late Theodore Roosevelt Potter and Dovie Pearson Potter. Dennis was a member of Stone Mountain Missionary Baptist Church and a retired stonemason. His work spanning all over Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee. He took great pride in a job well done. He taught the trade to both his sons, along with many others. Though he had a great love for creating masterpieces out of rock, his greatest love was his family. He loved each and everyone unconditionally. He had a way of making each child, daughter-in-law, grandchild, friend and neighbor feel like they were just a little more special than others. His unconditional love always stretched out his hand to strangers in need and folks down on their luck. He was certainly a good Samaritan to all.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Wanda Stines Potter of the home; two sons, Randy Potter and wife Patsy, and Jackie Potter and wife Brenda, all of Elk Park; five sisters, Dolly Harmon and husband Wayne of Butler, Mary Estep and husband Rev. Howard Estep of Elizabethton, Linda Potter, Gayle Ashley and Betty Hill and husband Daniel, all of Johnson City; one brother, Larry Potter of Butler; a brother-in-law and best friend, Carl Cable of Elizabethton; one sister-in-law, Betty Jo Glover; three granddaughters, Miranda Stoeltzing and husband Josh of Roan Mountain, Kayla Potter of Blowing Rock, and Amber Hoilman and husband Cody of Linville; one grandson, Joey Potter of Elk Park, and a very special great-grandson, Parker Stoeltzing. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

HAMPTON - Ray Luther Walsh, 93, Hampton, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2021 at his residence. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Riley L. & Madgie Stout Walsh. Ray was a 1945 graduate of the Watauga Academy, Butler. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired Millwright and Mechanic. He was a member of Harmony Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Selma Marlow, Christine Stout, Lois, and Barbara Woodin and four brothers: Lee Walsh, Riley Walsh, Berl Walsh, and Alvin Walsh.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was retired after several years as a Maintenance Supervisor at Alcan Aluminum. Bert loved to hunt and was an avid reader. Margery Gladys (Stout) Church of Johnson City, Tenn., formerly of the Poga Community of Butler, Tenn., passed away peacefully at Ivy Hall Nursing Home on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, to spend her Valentine’s Day with her beloved husband, Allen, at the age of 93. Margie was born in the Elk Mills Community to the late William Haskell and Lona Andes Stout. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Allen Chester Church; two brothers, William Haskell Stout Jr. and Ray Stout; and five sisters, Dorothy Stout, Dee Tucker, Joy Pennington, Jean Miller and Sandra Miller. Margery loved children and teaching them was a natural born talent for her. She had worked at Elk Mills School for three years as a cook and retired from Little Milligan School where she worked as a teacher’s aide for 17 years. Many beautiful relationships with the teachers and children were forged at those schools and those student’s cherished memories will always include Margery. She was a member of Beech Mountain Baptist Church and loved her church family and most of all being a servant of the Lord. Margery had been a farmer her entire life and loved gardening in her flowers and vegetables and reading. She was a beautiful, kind and meek soul and will be deeply missed by everyone that knew her because her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Those left to cherish her legacy include her son, Michael Church of Johnson City; her daughter, Sherry Church Lewis of Wilmington, N.C.; her grandchildren, Stephanie Lewis, Miranda (Shawn) Wulf, India Lewis and Chase Lewis; one great-granddaughter, Aria Wulf; two great-grandsons, Tristan and Cameron; and a brother, Donnie Stout. Dorothy “Dot” Marie Stout, 89, formerly of the Poga Community in Butler, Tenn., passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021, at Good Samaritan Assisted Living in Kissimmee, Fla. She was a daughter of the late William Haskell and Lona Marie Andes Stout and was born in Carter County on April 8, 1931. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Delores “Janet” Tucker, Jean Miller, Joy Pennington and Sandra Miller, and two brothers, Ray Haskell Stout and William Haskell Stout Jr.
Those left to cherish her memory include one brother, Don Stout of Orlando, Fla., and one sister, Margie G. Stout Church of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Dorothy “Dot” Marie Stout will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at the Stout Hill Church of Christ in Poga with Mr. Donnie Cable, minister, officiating. Anna Smith, 93, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at Hermitage Health Care Center of Elizabethton. Anna was born in Richlands, Va., to the late Leroy and Alice Greer Stout. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Cecil Smith; a brother, Homer Stout; and two sisters, Nell Stout and Ethel Stout.
Anna had been employed at Bemberg for 34 years and had also worked for the Senior Citizens Center, the Neighborhood Service Center and the United Way. She was of the Freewill Baptist faith and was a member of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center. Anna enjoyed quilting and sewing and she loved to shop.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Sandra Lyons and husband Wayne of Elizabethton; and three grandchildren, Wayne Lyons II and fiancée, Ashley Bailey of Elizabethton, Emily Lyons of Bristol, Va., and Chelsea Lyons of Elizabethton.

On Wednesday, January 19, 2022, a precious soul returned to her Savior and her family gone before her. Bernice Belle Hatley Whaley, 89, of the Elk Mills Community in Butler, Tenn., passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Hillview Health and Rehabilitation Center of Elizabethton. Bernice was born to the late Clifford Filmore Stout and Bonnie Rose Potter Stout. In addition to her father and mother, Bernice was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul O’Dell Hatley; her beloved brothers, Charles (Christine) Stout and Beryl Stout; a special nephew, Johnny Stout; several aunts and one uncle; and a son-in-law, Ralph Edison Miller.
Bernice was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a sweet lady and always had a smile on her face and a kind word for anyone she met but she was firm as well. Hard work and charity was a way of life for Bernice and her willingness to obey the Lord and his word was instilled in her at a young age. She was a member of Elk Mills Christian Church.
Bernice was an integral part of her community and in her neighbors’ lives because anytime any of them were in need, Bernice was there to lend a helping hand. She was a bus driver for the Carter County School System and also worked as an inspector at C&A Lingerie. Bernice loved to dance when she was able, crocheting, sewing, and playing cards and Chinese checkers. Her greatest joy was her family and spending time with them. In fact, Bernice helped raise her granddaughter, Abbi, and it was her joy to do so.
Those left to cherish Bernice’s beautiful legacy include her husband, Luther Whaley, of the home; her daughters, Pat (Eddie) Clawson and Paulette Hatley Miller; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jason Edward (Amber) Clawson and their daughters, Lucchese Lee Clawson and soon-to-be Sage McKinley Clawson, Angela Michelle Walsh (Sam Maney) and her daughter, Abigail Summer Blevins, and Michael Vincent (Michele) Walsh and their daughter, Faith Walsh; and her very special friends, Doug and Kelley Carter.

Elsie Marie Cable Buckingham, 84, of Gray, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Raven “Buck” Buckingham; parents, W.R. and Pauline Stout Cable; two sisters, Wilma Yap and Trilla Mottern; paternal grandparents, William Millard and Sarah Ellen Davis Cable; and maternal grandparents, John R. and Lillie Belle Gilliland Stout.
Left to honor her memory are two sons, Charles Raven Buckingham II and Timmy Lynn Buckingham (Cindy); three granddaughters, Makayla (Raven), Dakota and Taylor (Tim and Cindy); one brother, Lowell Cable; and sisters Theona Moorehouse, Joan Anderson (Ward), Connie Latner (Donnie) and Sherri Lawson (Tim); along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Marie was a graduate of Jonesborough High School and attended East Tennessee State University. Marie and Buck were married March 19, 1959. She was a long-distance operator for Southern Bell Telephone, a bookkeeper and teller for First People’s Bank, a bookkeeper and teller for Banking & Trust, and retired from ETSU’s Sherrod Library cataloguing department in technical services.
Marie was a member of Kingsport Church of Christ. She was very strong in her faith and in her love of family; her granddaughters were the light of her life. Her love of family spiked her interest in genealogy, a lifelong passion. She published her decades-long research of the Cable family in 2001; she dedicated it, in part, to her sons for enduring a cluttered dining room table for years and to Connie and Donnie Latner for their expertise and patience teaching Marie how to use a computer to make this voluminous work possible. The book has become a treasure, not only to her immediate family, but to many distant relatives who research their own families’ histories. For many years, she was instrumental in organizing the Cable Family Reunion in Cranberry, N.C. Marie loved to cook and was an avid collector of recipes which she enthusiastically tried and shared with friends and family.
Family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 21, at Tetrick Funeral Home in Johnson City, followed by the funeral service at 7 p.m. officiated by Donnie Cable. Leslie Montgomery will lead congregational singing. Burial will be at noon Tuesday, March 22, at Monte Vista Memorial Park, Johnson City. It is with deep sad-ness that we an-nounce the pass-ing of our be-loved hus-band, father, and grand-father, Glen (Bud) McCloud, of But-ler, TN, who, at home and sur-rounded by his lov-ing fam-ily, passed on April 4, 2015.
Glen, 81, was born on Au-gust 13, 1933, and lived the ma-jor-ity of his life in But-ler.
Glen was mar-ried to Jewel Dean (Ward) McCloud, on Au-gust 4, 1955. They were mar-ried 59 years. Glen, along-side his wife, raised four fine chil-dren. He is sur-vived by his wife and his chil-dren; son, Tim (wife, Gaye); daugh-ter, Judy (McCloud) Lam-bert (hus-band, Ed-die); son, Randy (wife, Bar-bara); and son, Steve (wife, Laura). He is also sur-vived by his sis-ter, Jackie Warden; two broth-ers, Jerry (and wife, Mar-ga-ret) and Derl (and wife, Gla-dys); as well as his pre-cious grand-chil-dren and great grand-chil-dren; and many, nieces, neph-ews and other spe-cial fam-ily mem-bers and friends.
Glen was pre-ceded in death by his mother, Ha-zel Marie (Stout) McCloud; and his father, Harry S. McCloud; his sis-ter, Peggy McCloud Jump; and his brother, Bill McCloud.
Glen attended Hampton High School. He was a decorated veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 19501959.
For many years, Glen was the owner and operator of McCloud's Automotive in Elizabethton. He was also employed as Master Automotive Technician by Dennis Powell Chrysler Plymouth and Carl Gregory in Johnson City. Mr. McCloud retired from Carl Gregory in 2002, and then traveled across the country and internationally with two of his sons working as a millwright from 20022008.
In his spare time Glen enjoyed reading, watching college football and playing board games with family and friends.
Glen, a man of integrity, will always be remembered through his legacy of honesty, generosity, dedication and fair dealing. His witty sense of humor brightened the lives of his family and everyone who knew him.
Family was of utmost importance to Glen. He genuinely and deeply loved his family. Throughout his lifetime he made opportunities to share special time, and make cherished, lifetime memories with his family.
Glen demonstrated commitment and service as a leader in his church. He served our Lord and Savior with devotion through his unwavering dedication to Butler Baptist Church as a church leader and as Chairman of the Deacons for many years.
The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Elizabethton.

Jerry was raised in Butler, TN and sang with the McCloud Family for several years. Also, him and his wife Margaret delivered mobile meals in Creston, NC for many years. Jerry served his country in the United States Air Force.

In earlier years, he was employed as a mechanical Engineer. He loved gardening, hunting and fishing. George was a member of Union Baptist Church. George was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge # 750 and was a 32nd degree Mason.

Howard Dana Guy, 82, of Canton, Ga., passed away on September 23, 2021, at his residence.
Howard was born in Avery County, N.C., to the late Dana Guy and Ruth Stout Guy. In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his brother, William “Bill” Hicks, and sisters, Alma Church, Shirley Potter and Mabel Maxine Guy.
Howard Guy was a devoted husband who treasured his beautiful wife of 63 years, Crystal Rose Guy. He was a loving Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend to many. He was an expert fisherman who loved being outdoors. He was a singer with a beautiful voice and a wonderful friend who never met a stranger. He retired as a Supervisor with Ford Motor Company.

Danny Ray Cable, age 70, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from his residence. Danny was born in Carter County to the late Millard William Cable and Mary Bell Stout Cable. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Elwood Von Cable.

Danny had worked as a butcher for 17 years at Smithdeals and had also worked at Snap-On-Tools of Elizabethton for over 16 years. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He was a man of God and was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed camping, hiking, being outdoors, farming and helping those in need.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Barbara Miller Cable, of the home; his daughter, Annette Broadbridge and husband Aidan, of Sweden; his son, Jackie Ray Cable, of Elizabethton; his grandchildren, Brett Allen Cable, of Elizabethton and Levi Aidan Broadbridge, of Sweden; eight brothers, Darrell Cable and wife Judith, of Marion, NC, Donnie Cable and wife Roberta, of Butler, Loyd Cable and wife Regina, of Hickory, NC, Dale Cable and wife Karen, of Hampton, Charles Cable and wife Janice, of Hampton, Ellis Cable and wife Belle, of Butler, Gary Cable and wife Rose, of Elizabethton and Jerry Cable and wife Sharon, of Butler; two sisters, Delores Hicks and husband Jerry, of Butler and Susie Carter and husband Bruce, of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive, as well as his special friends, Allison and Jack Chidester, of West Carrolton, OH, Joy and Larry Kennedy, of Elizabethton, Paula and Wayne Phillips, of SC and M.E. Fair, of Elizabethton.

A service to honor the life of Danny Ray Cable will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with his brothers, Rev. Charles Cable, Mr. Donnie Cable and Rev. Darrel Cable, officiating. Music will be under the direction of his son-in-law, Aidan Broadbridge, violinist. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday; or at the residence at any time.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, in the Cable Cemetery, Dye Leaf Road, in Butler. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Jesse Clinton Cable, age 75 of Butler, TN, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2020 at his home. Jesse was born on November 4, 1944 to the late Coy Cable and Mae Stout Cable in Carter County, TN. In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Cable and wife Sharon, Clinton Cable, David Cable all of who were involved in a fatal car accident in 1987. He was also preceded in death by his daughter in law, Kathy Cable and granddaughter, Renee Shore.

Jesse was a veteran of the United States Army. He was also in the restaurant business for many years running the Elk Mills Restaurant. He had a passion for gardening and especially raising beans. Through his life, Jesse made many friends and will be dearly missed by all. He was member of the Stout Hill Church of Christ.

Jesse is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Potter Cable; daughter, Janet Dugger and husband Brad of Hampton, TN; son, Jeffrey Cable of Hartselle, AL; sister, Cathy Richards of Butler, TN; brother, Kenneth Cable and wife Cindy of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Audra Gill, Austin Clawson, Jonathan Shore; great grandchildren, Harley Mann, Jessie Myers, Loyd Meyers III, Jared Miller, Jessie Miller, and Jonathan Miller.

The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. with Ministers Donnie Cable and Ray Greene officiating. The graveside service and burial will immediately follow the funeral at Sugar Grove Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Austin Clawson, Brad Dugger, Jerry Gill, Jerad Miller, Jonathan Shore, and Jonathan Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Hamad Khan, Dr. Raina Sluder, all friends and extended family. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.

Gregory Lynn Stout, 55, of the Poga Community of Butler, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019, at his residence. Gregory was born June 9, 1963 in Carter County, Tenn., to the late Mattison Elwood Stout and Gladys Estep Stout. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, David Stout.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Karen Stout, of Michigan; his daughter, Savannah Stout; a brother, Michael Stout, of Michigan; two sisters, Sharon Stout and Tammie Stout, both of Butler, Tenn.; and five stepchildren.

On Sunday, December 11, 2022 our most precious mother, daughter, sister and friend, Sherry Leigh Cable, opened her eyes in the presence of her Heavenly father, her beloved Dad and Mom in her forever home in glory at the age of 55.Sherry was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., but was raised in the Elk Mills Community of Butler by her loving parents, Carl Allen Cable and Gracie Mae (Potter) Cable. She had mourned their loss tremendously.
Sherry was so much more than a mother, she was a friend, a confidant, and the rock of her family. She was the go-to for a pep talk, a cheerleader for achievements and the voice of reason in the midst of pain or troubles. Though she herself went through so much pain but emotionally and physically, Sherry always found time for what really mattered the most, family and family was her friends as well. She believed that everyone should be treated with kindness and respect which is exactly what she did.
Sherry was a graduate of Hampton High School and was retired from the Internal Revenue Service. She was of the Baptist faith and had attended Sunset Freewill Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory is her devoted and loving daughter, Brittany Cable, of the home; her beloved brother, Terry Cable, also of the home; her aunts, who were more like sisters, Mary Potter Estep (Howard), Linda Potter, Betty Potter Hill (Daniel), and a very special aunt and best friend, Gayle Potter Ashley, all of Elizabethton; an uncle, Opal Cable of Butler; her bonus sister, Kristi Crow Smith; her special friend and godmother to Brittany, Patsy Crow; her special friends, Lisa Morrow, Missy Andrews Ward, Debbie Treadway, Angie Odom, Lori Church and Melissa Scalf.
A service to honor and celebrate Sherry’s beautiful homegoing will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, December 17, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Rev. Terry Richardson and Rev. Howard Estep officiating. Special music will be provided by Vanessa Cox. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.
Following the service, Sherry will be laid to rest beside her beloved mom and dad in the Stone Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery in the Poga Community of Butler. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Smith, Elijah Smith, Lee Morrow, Randy Potter, Jackie Potter, Chuck Pierce and Andy Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Estep, Opal Cable, Wayne Harmon, Bea Crow and Daniel Hill. We would like to thank the members of the Carter County Rescue Squad, members of the Hampton/Valley Forge Fire Department and the 2600 ICU & 5200 wing at the Johnson City Medical Center for the love and care shown to Sherry and her family.
