John Paul Long Sr., 95, Butler, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Roanzy & Mary Emily Arney Long. He had lived in South Bend, Indiana, for over forty years and was a retired employee of Sibleys Machine Foundry in South Bend.

Mr. Long had served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was wounded in the Pacific Campaign and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post 61, Mountain City, the Johnson County Honor Guard, The Disabled American Veteran Chapter 19, Elkhart, Indiana, and the V.F.W. Post in Elkhart, Indiana.

Mr. Long was a member and Deacon of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. He was a volunteer at the Mountain City Health Care for several years. He was a great fisherman.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife: Ruth Viola Wegner, June 6, 1994; by a son, Richard H. Long, who died February 10, 2004; five brothers: Lonnie, Mitchell, Joseph, Hayse and Edward Long; and four sisters: Stella Love, Reba Greene, Elsie Fredericks and Dot Crosswhite.

Survivors include his wife: Ona Pleasant Long; A Son: John Paul Long Jr. and wife, Anna Marie, Osceola, Indiana; A Step-Daughter: Judy Karen Wagner and husband, Larry, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Five Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren; and 5 Great Great Grandchildren; One Brother: H.R. Long Jr. and wife, Lois, Mountain City; Several Nieces & Nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, in Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Alan Koch and Rev. Terry Ward officiating.

Private Graveside Services will be conducted Saturday, April 13, 2013, in the Shoun-McEwen Cemetery, Mountain City, with the Johnson County Honor Guard providing Military Honors. Music will be provided by Rev. & Mrs Terry Ward and Mary Etta Long. Active Pallbearers will be: Mark Long, Carl Long, Paul Long, Robby Wagner, Larry Wagner, Darrell Ward, Jamie Ward and Mike Long. Honorary Pallbearers will be: His Church Family, L.B. Raney, Joe Crosswhite, Carter Isaacs, Tom Worley, Truett Pleasant and Bud Crosswhite.

The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the Staff of Roan Highland Nursing Center, The Doctors and Staff of C-213, James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, the Hospice Staff of the VA Center and a very special Care Giver, Ila Mink.

Henry R. Long, Jr, better known as "H", age 93, of Mountain City, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018. Henry was born in Doe Valley, TN on August 2, 1925, to the late H.R. and Mary Arney Long. In addition to his parents, H Long was preceded in death by his wives Lucille Long and Lula Cummings Long, sisters Stella Long, Reba Lowe, Elsie Long, and Dot Crosswhite and his brothers Lonnie Long, Mitchell Long, Joseph Long, John Long, Hayes Long, and Edward Long, and his son Michael H. Long.

H.Long worked as a farmer, a carpenter, and retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation. When he was not farming, he enjoyed fishing and traveling. H. Long was a member and former Deacon and Trustee of Bethany Baptist Church and Taylorsville Masonic Lodge 243 F&AM.

Survivors include his wife Lois Long and his Daugher-n-Law Mary Etta Long. Funeral services for H Long were conducted at 7 pm on Monday, November 26, 2018, in the Charlie B. Hux Memorial Chapel at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home in Mountain City, TN with Dr. Gale Hartley officiating. The family received friends from 6pm – 7pm prior to the service. Full Masonic Rites were provided by Taylorsville Masonic Lodge 243 F&AM.

Internment was in the Shoun McEwen Cemetery. At other times, the family will receive friends at 156 Butler Lane, Mt. City, TN 37683.

Jean Hicks, age 85, of Mountain City, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 1, 2017 in the Mountain City Care Center. She was born in Johnson County, TN on April 25, 1932 to the late Roy Lowe and Cassie Stamper Lowe. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lester Hicks; sisters Irene Hicks and Christine Drayer.

Jean worked at Burlington, Bike, Leco, and Johnson County Hospital Dietary Dept. She loved traveling, gardening, canning, eating at different restaurants, and truly enjoyed reading her bible.

Jean was a member of Doe Valley United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters; Priscilla Hicks and Bruce Thrasher of Mountain City, TN and Pat Cullop and husband Bud of Laurel Bloomery, TN; two sons: Billy Hicks and wife Glenda of Morristown, TN and Charlie Hicks of Jefferson City, TN; sister, Bonita West of Piney Flats, TN; granddaughter, Melissa Vanover and husband Wayne of Mountain City, TN; grandsons: Israel Stanton and wife Deanna of Lafayette, GA and Cole Hicks of Jefferson City, TN; great grandsons, Justin and Stephen Vanover, Peyton, Blake, Levi, and Clay Stanton; one great granddaughter, BreAnna Stanton; one great great granddaughter, Elora Vanover; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted on Monday December 4, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at Doe Valley United Methodist Church with Minister Tim Mullins, Bruce Thrasher, and Kevin Mercereau to officiate. The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside service and interment will be held on Tuesday December 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from the Phillippi Cemetery. Pallbearers are Tim Holt, Dr. Atif Atyia, Kevin Mercereau, Israel Stanton, Steve Osborne, and Wayne Vanover. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. James Shine, Dr. Suzanne Shine, Steve Kurklin, Robert Price, Carl Stanton, and her many special friends.

JONESBOROUGH - Christine Lowe Dye, age 83, of Jonesborough, went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.

A native of Mountain City, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Cassie Stamper Lowe. Mrs. Dye was a member of Princeton Freewill Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was strong in her faith and always worried about everyone else, putting others before herself. Mrs. Dye was a loving mother to four sons and will be truly missed.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dye was preceded in death by a son, David Dye; sister, Irene Hicks; and her previous husband, M.J. Dye, Jr.

Survivors include three sons, Roger Dye and wife Regina, Gray, Michael Dye and wife Tonia, Jonesborough, and Danny Dye and wife Kris, Greeneville, TN; Eleven Grandchildren; Twelve Great Grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Hicks, Mountain City and Bonita West, Piney Flats. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Dye will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, September 4, 2017 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Arden Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday from Eden United Methodist Church Cemetery, Jonesborough. Active pallbearers will be Roger Dye, Michael Dye, Sr., Danny Dye, Michael Dye, Jr., Greg Devoti, and Danny Richard Dye.

JOHNSON CITY - Comilla Stout "Connie" Holland, 80, of Johnson City passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was a native of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Haskiel Stout and Retha Stamper Stout Church. Mrs. Holland was a member of the Lone Oak Christian Church and had worked for Johnson City Memorial Hospital and Watauga Orthopedics. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her step-father, Ernest Church; a sister, Kay Stout Miller; two brothers, James Glen Stout and LoKeal Earl Stout.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas H. "Tom" Holland; a daughter, Kim Holland Clark and husband, Russell; a grandson, Avery Clark; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Mrs. Holland will be conducted at 10:00 AM Friday, January 12, 2018 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Mr. Tad Johnson officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends.
