    Fannie A. Calhoun, 87, 119 Lover's Lane, Elizabethton, died Sunday, May 18, 1997 at Johnson City, Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Calhoun was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Link and Dorthy Harrison Presnell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oscar C. Calhoun, August 5, 1986, a son, Doris Calhoun, a sister, Lorenia Brewer, and a brother, George Presnell. Mrs. Calhoun was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include three daughters, Lucille Powell, of the home, Joyce Pierce, Elizabethton, and Lillian Watts, Laurinburg, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Sandy Calhoun, Bristol, and H.H. and Nancy Calhoun, Mishawaka, Ind.; a sister, Myrtle Jones, Roan Mountain; and a brother, Frank Presnell, Roan Mountain. Twenty-eight grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements. Funeral services for Fannie A. Calhoun, 119 Lover's Lane, Elizabethton, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. Dale Greenwell officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons: Larry Powell, Randy Powell, Jr. "Pooner" Powell, Gary Potter, Dennis Watts and Rodney Butler. A special thanks to the Carter County Rescue Squad, Nurses of the 2nd Floor of Johnson City Medical Center and the Lifecare Home Health Nurses.

    Fannie married Oscar Cleo Calhoun on 24 Dec 1927 in Carter County, , , Tennessee.     Rex B. Presnell, 67, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a lengthy illness. Rex was preceded in death by his father and mother, George W. and Nannie Byrd Presnell; a brother, Larry Presnell; a sister, Violet Gibson; his wife, Janie Presnell and her son, Curtis Terry. Rex, the youngest of 11 children, was a kind and loving person. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was a former employee of East Tennessee Undergarment Company and had also worked in the heating and air conditioning industry before retiring due to disability. Survivors include a brother, George Dean (Sandra) Presnell; seven sisters, Loretta (Ken) Rainbolt, June Winters, Ruth Parlier, Norma (David) Babb, Trena (Carl) Gibson, Pat (Clay) Montgomery and Diana (Ralph) Marlowe; his companion, Dula Hensley; his late wife’s son, Scott Rogers, and her grandchildren, Elle Terry and Jordan Rogers; and a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. A gathering of friends will be conducted from 1 until 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family would like to especially thank Debbie Shaffer for all her loving care given to Rex during his illness.

    Lucille Powell, 87, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Hermitage Health Care Center. Lucille was born in Carter County to the late Oscar and Fannie Presnell Calhoun. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Elisha Powell; two sons, Timothy Powell and Robert Powell; two daughters, Barbara Fraley and Iva Jean Hyder; one granddaughter, Wendy Garland; one sister, Joyce Pierce; two brothers, H.L. Calhoun and Doris Calhoun; and a son-in-law, James Hicks.
    Lucille was a homemaker and had formerly worked at Winn-Dixie as a sales clerk. She was a loving mother and grandmother and loved everyone she met, she never knew a stranger. Lucille was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting and cooking Sunday dinner for her family.
    Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Cleo Hicks and her partner, Michael Elliott, Linda Garland and husband Michael, Phyllis Crain and husband Glenn and Brenda Rasmussen, all of Elizabethton; her sons, Larry Powell and wife Patricia, Randy Powell and wife Loretta and Elisha Powell Jr. "Pooner" and wife Neci, all of Elizabethton; a son-in-law, Bill Fraley, of Elizabethton; one sister, Lillian Watts, of Mishawaka, Ind.; one brother, Roger Calhoun, also of Mishawaka, Ind.; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
    A service to celebrate the life of Lucille Powell will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, May 11, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dick Brand, soloist, and Rev. Ronnie Campbell. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence of her daughter, Cleo Hicks, at other times. The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    Elkhart, Ind. - Joyce L. Pierce, 81, of Elkhart, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Riverside Village. She was born September 30, 1933, in Shell Creek, Tenn., to Oscar and Fannie (Presnell) Calhoun. She married Billy Ray Pierce, who preceded her in death on May 13, 1979. She was also preceded in death by a son, Nickie L. Walker, in 1978, and two brothers, H.L. Calhoun in 2010, and Dorse Calhoun, in 1931. Joyce was a homemaker who loved to crochet. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, singing at her church (the Freewill Baptist Church in Elizabethton, Tenn.) and listening to country and western music. She was known for her chocolate gravy. Surviving are two grandsons, Shannon and Aaron Walker, both of St. Cloud, Fla; two sisters, Lillian Potter of Elkhart and Lucille Powell of Elizabethton, Tenn.; an brother, Roger (Sandy) Calhoun of Elkhart; a sister-in-law, Nancy Calhoun of Mishawaka; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the 3 p.m. Thursday, January 22, celebration of life service at the Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Pastor Rick Pirtle from the Riverview General Baptist Church will preside and cremation will follow the service.

    Doyle Brewer, 89, of Carter County, Tenn., went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 24, 2022, following a brief illness. Doyle was born in Carter County to the late Paul and Laurina Presnell Brewer. In addition to his parents, Doyle was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Margaret Peeks Brewer, in 2001.
    Doyle retired as a truck driver for Clark Lumber after many years of service. He would help anyone that was in need. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and being outside, listening to country music and his beloved dog.
    Doyle was of the Christian faith.
    Those left to cherish Doyle’s memory include his son, Danny Lee (Kathy) Brewer; two granddaughters, Mindy (Shaun) Malone and Becky Brewer and fiancé Travis; his great-grandchildren, Alexis Malone, Michelle Malone, Carter Malone, Bentley Malone and Chloe Babb; his step-grandchildren, James Garland, Justin Garland, Abigail Garland and Damien Babb; his sisters, Virginia (Lewis) Blevins, Dimple Brewer and Birdie (Ed) Smith Peters; and his brother, Kaye (Phyllis) Brewer. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and neighbors also survive.
    The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Sycamore Shoals ICU for their tremendous care of Doyle during his illness.
    A celebration of Doyle’s life will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, February 28, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Mr. Clarence Cannon officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Morrell Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mike Blevins, David Blevins, Jake Fagan, Danny Blakey, James Garland, Eddie Smith Peters and Frank Hamby. Honorary pallbearers will be Shaun Malone, Travis Babb and Bill Depew.

    Doyle married Loretta Margaret Peeks about 1954. Loretta (daughter of Clarence Peeks and Viola Hyatt) was born on 6 Jan 1936 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 25 Feb 2001 in Washington County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Morrell Cemetery, , Sullivan County, Tennessee.     JOHNSON CITY - Mr. Kay Brewer, age 83, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022 due to Lymphoma and Melanoma. A native of Carter County, Kay was born September 9, 1938 a son of the late Paul and Lorena Presnell Brewer. In addition to his parents, Kay was also preceded in death by a brother, Doyle Brewer.

    Kay retired from the Peerless Restaurant after 42 years of employment. A member of Happy Valley Baptist Church, he had also attended Grace Baptist Church for several years. Kay achieved a lifetime award as a member of the 2022 Who’s Who in Tennessee Long-term Care. Kay was an excellent gardener and enjoyed fishing, woodworking and cooking. He also liked watching NASCAR, UT Football and loved going to the beach.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 65 years, Phyllis Nidiffer Brewer of the home; his daughter, Robbin (Bill) Elliott of Inman, South Carolina; his son, Steven (Irene) Brewer of Chenango Forks, New York; five grandchildren, Kristin (Aaron) Baird, Katie (Justin) Crowder, Justin Brewer, Amanda Brewer and Nicole Brewer; four great grandchildren, Morgan, Austin, Baylor and Brooks Baird; his sisters, Virginia Blevins, Dimple Brewer and Birdie SmithPeters; an aunt, Aline Weber; and his special friends, Craig Turner and Gary Kalogerous.

    A graveside service to honor and celebrate the life of Kay Brewer will be conducted at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Chris Hughes officiating. Active pallbearers will be Aaron Baird, Austin Baird, Justin Brewer, Justin Crowder, Gary Kalogerous, Ian Knack, Eric McHenry and Craig Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Blevins, Steve Brewer, Bill Elliott and the Grace Baptist Men’s Sunday School Class.
