    Belva Dean White, 82, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, May 19, 2023, at Hillview Health Center. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Chalmer and Hazel Garland White. Belva Dean was a graduate of Unaka High School. She retired in 1992 from Alcatel USA and was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. She loved to work crossword puzzles and card games. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lou Cole Davenport and Evelyn Andes; two brothers, Dallas and Tony White; and a nephew, Gary Wayne White. Survivors include two sisters, JoAnne (Delbert) Reese and Thelma (James) Nutter; two brothers, Richard (Carolyn) White and Roger White; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Diane White and Wanda White. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27, in the Blevins Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Greer officiating.

    Norma Jean "Kat" Haga, 90, of Newland, North Carolina passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at her residence.
    Norma was born on February 26, 1931 in Avery County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Norman Winters and the late Elma Carpenter Taylor.
    She graduated from Newland High School in 1949 and married the love of her life, Robert "Boonie" Haga who passed away in 2004. She was a longtime member and Sunday School Teacher of the Sugar Mountain Baptist Church. Kat loved to crochet, and made hundreds of hats for Samaritan's Purse each year. She enjoyed being in her garden.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Boonie" Haga; father, Norman Winters; mother, Elma Taylor; and four brothers, Paul Winters, Samuel "Ador" Winters, Cecil "Homer" Winters, Harry Taylor; .
    Norma leaves behind to cherish her memory three daughters, Trish Haga of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Darcy Whyde of Newland, NC, Susie Nichols of Lenoir, NC; two grandsons, Raymond "Ramey" George of Newland, NC, Victor Santiago of Fort Lauderdale, FL; granddaughter, Heidi Whyde of Morganton, NC; and great-grandson, Corey George of Cleveland, OH.
    Services for Norma Jean "Kat" Haga will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 beginning at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Rev. Donnie Ford officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 p.m. on Tuesday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
    Interment will be in the Montezuma Cemetery.

    Samuel “Sam” Ray Heaton, 64, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022, in Roan Mountain. Sam was born in Elizabethton to the late Bobby Ray Heaton and Mary Roberta Winters Strickland.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, John Strickland.
    Sam was an employee of Snap-on Tools of Elizabethton for 16 years and was a very hard worker. Above all he cherished his family and was a caring and wonderful father, laid back and very intelligent. Sam was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed listening to ’70s rock music with his daughter and watching Richard Petty during his NASCAR career, Dallas Cowboys and watching wrestling with his son.
    Those left to cherish Sam’s memory include his wife of 25 years, Sharon (Ward) Heaton, of the home; his beloved children, Emily and Evan Heaton, both of Roan Mountain; and two brothers, Steve Heaton of Roan Mountain and Andrew (Amanda) Strickland of Elk Park, N.C.
    A service to celebrate and honor the life of Samuel “Sam” Ray Heaton will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Pastor Tull Oaks and Pastor Chris Hitechew officiating. Chris McKinney will provide a song. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Justin Jordan, Hayden Roberson, Zane Ward, Darrell Birchfield, Steve Heaton and Andrew Strickland. Troy Ward will serve as honorary pallbearer.
