Co.and served as Elizabethton City Treasurer.He served as a deacon for many years at the First Baptist Church and was a trustee of the Watauga Academy ,and was active in school promotion in Carter County.His biography appears in the book "Who''s Who in Tennessee"-A Biographical Reference Book of Notable Tennesseeans of Today.

    ELIZABETHTON - Iris Marie Jenkins Ellis, 99, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022 in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Carter County she was born April 11, 1923 to the late Stover & Jennie Pierce Jenkins. Iris was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She served in the United States Navy during World War II. She was retired as Office Manager at Russ Swanay Real Estate. She was a member of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens. Iris loved to work in her flower garden and yard. She attended Oak Street Baptist Church for several years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jack Ellis, her daughters Nancy Ellis, Barbara Ellis Melton, her sisters: Ora, Lorraine, Nina, Virginia and Annie and her brothers: David and K.P.

    Survivors include her son-in-law: Mike Melton, Her Grandsons: Vance Melton and Daniel Melton. Her special nieces & nephews: Jacquline Hull, Pat Humphreys, Julie Hester Honeycutt, Doug Ellis, Wayne Jenkins, Danny “Pert” Jenkins, Millie Turrentine Jenkins, Susan Turrentine Smith, Dale Jenkins and her Elizabethton Senior Citizens friends and neighbors on Race Street.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2022 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bob Polk and Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. The Eulogy will be given by her son-in-law: Mike Melton. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park.     JONESBOROUGH - Mrs. Anna Frances Treadway, age 93, Jonesborough, passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at NHC Healthcare of Johnson City.

    Mrs. Treadway was born in Jonesborough and the daughter of the late Frank T. & Mary A. Stover Guinn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Vestal S. Treadway in May 2001, one brother, Charles Guinn and one sister, Mildred Stoots.

    She was a member of Cherokee Baptist Church and WMU. She loved to sew and years ago was involved with the Lamar PTA.

    Survivors include four children, Gene Treadway and wife Faye, Wayne Treadway and wife Sandy, Marie Jackson and Catherine Treadway, all of Jonesborough; grandchildren, Craig Treadway, Nicole Treadway and Brad Jackson; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Self and Mary Nell Green; one brother, Howard Guinn; and several nephews and nieces.

    The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff on station two an NHC Healthcare of Johnson City for their wonderful care.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home.

    Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Cherokee Baptist Church with Rev. James Cambron officiating. Interment services will follow at Cherokee Baptist Cemetery.

    GRAY - James Harley Love, 83, of Gray, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at LifeCare Center of Gray following an extended illness.

    James was born in Erwin, Tennessee to Theodore R. Love, Sr. and Nellie Melissa Stover Love. He was a graduate of Unicoi County High School and the University of Tennessee. His early life on the family's dairy farm, along with his degree in agriculture, laid the foundation for a career in wholesale dairy sales and other agriculture-related fields.

    A life-long Christian, James served in leadership positions of several Christian churches and organizations in East Tennessee. He volunteered his time for Appalachian Christian Village, Smoky Mountain Christian Men's Fellowship, Samaritan's Purse shoebox ministry, among others.

    James never met a stranger. He loved talking with people, getting to know them and their interests. He developed many lasting friendships through his caring ways and heartfelt actions.

    James was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Robert, Clarence, David, Stanley, and John Doran, and his daughter, Beth Ann Love. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Polly Marie Osburn Love, daughters Janet Richard and husband Russ of Knoxville, Melissa (Missy) Martin and husband Roger of Gray, and son James (Jimmy) Love and wife Martha of Gray, seven grandchildren: Christopher Richard, Meagan Hopson and husband Chris, Kelly Richard, Caroline Good, Andrew Martin, Annie Love, and Hayden Good, one great-grandchildren: Emily Hopson; and brother, T. R. "Ted" Love, Jr. and wife Peggy; along with several nieces and nephews.

    The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Life Care Center of Gray for the wonderful loving care given to our father.

    A celebration of life service will be held at Boones Creek Christian Church on Thursday, August 1, 2019 beginning at 6:30 PM with Minister David Clark officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 2, 2019 at 11:00 am at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.     Survivors include her husband of 34 years: Mike Melton. Two Sons: Vance Tipton Melton and Daniel Taylor Melton. Her Mother: Iris Jenkins Ellis. Her special cousins and very close friends: Hester Honeycutt, Katherine Ellis, Lou Ellis, Wayne Jenkins, Patty Smith Humphrey, Danny “Pert” Jenkins, Doug Ellis, Jackie Roke and other special cousins.

    A Service to Celebrate the life of Barbara Melton will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2021 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Travis Biller and Pastor Carroll Melton officiating.
