Mrs. Eula Martha Estep, 83, 322 West Doe Avenue, Elizabethton, died Thursday, December 26, 2002, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mrs. Estep was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Sherman and Pearl Asher Estep. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Estep and Walter Estep, and a sister, Eller Estep. Mrs. Estep was a textile worker and was a Free Will Baptist.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Estep, Charlotte, N.C., and two sisters, Ethel Bowers and Vena Good, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Vena Kathryn Estep Good, 93, Elizabethton, passed away March 30, 2023, at Hermitage Health Center in Elizabethton following a stroke. She was born on December 29, 1929 to Sherman and Pearle Asher Estep of Stoney Creek. Vena moved with brothers to Ohio, and it was there she married Charles Thomas Good. They made their home in Monroe, Mich., where she took pride in raising their children. She returned to Elizabethton after they had grown and moved away. Raised in Holly Springs Free Will Baptist, she was also a past member of Monroe Missionary Baptist in Michigan. Vena had a lifelong love of baseball, music, and was a fan of college basketball with March tournaments being her favorite times. Above all, her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Joseph Good; a granddaughter, Anna Grayson Sanders; brothers, Walter Howard Estep Sr. and John Wesley Estep; and sisters, Eller Estep, Eula Estep and Ethel Bowers. Vena leaves behind a son, John (Margarita) Good; daughter, Cindy Norris; daughter-in-law, Deborah Good; five grandchildren, Rachael “Liz” (Don) Selby, Sean Good, Alex (Natelee) Good, Kathryn Sanders and Sarah Sanders; two special great-granddaughters, Piper and Riley Selby; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Eric Sams officiating. Interment will follow in the Richardson Cemetery (Stoney Creek). Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Shade Estep, 67, Rt. 9, Southside Road, died Wednesday, April 8, of an apparent heart attack while attending services at Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church.
He was a Carter County native and a son the late Godfrey H. and Lora Marie Richardson Estep.
Mr. Estep was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corp.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
Mr. Estep was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church, where he formerly served as a deacon. He attended Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Holder Estep; two daughters, Diana Estep and Donna Estep, both of the home; two sisters, Helen Estep, Elizabethton, and Selma Swift, Opeka FL; one brother Burton Estep, Adairville KY; and several nieces and nephews.

After his 92nd birthday, Mr. Burton Estep passed away peacefully in Nashville, Tenn., on April 10, 2019, at 6:19 a.m.
A native of Carter County, Tenn., he was the son of the late Godfrey and Lora Richardson Estep. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Ruth Rash Estep; a twin sister, Helen Estep; a sister, Selma Swift; a brother, Shade Estep; and many beloved friends and extended family.
Mr. Estep served in the military, graduated from college and retired as President of Adairville Banking Company, Adairville, Ky. During his career, he was also a teacher at Holmes Jr. College in Mississippi and continued on to work as a National Bank Examiner while raising his family in Nashville, Tenn.
Burton and Ruth are survived by their two daughters, Cindy Gilmore and Julia (Terri) Robertson, and two sons, Richard Estep and Roger Estep. Burton was blessed with eight grandchildren, Michael Parsons, Amanda Gaston, Joshua Estep, Natalie Prince, Michelle Crow, Patrick Estep, Adam Estep and Benjamin Estep; and several great-grandchildren. Burton had a special relationship with his two daughters-in-law, Brenda and Angela, and the family thanks them for their loving attention to him through the years. A special thank you goes to his daughter, Julia, who has been his constant caretaker for the last 15 years. She stood by his side through each illness as tenderly as she served her mother during her illnesses. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, promises to fill her with many blessings for her honorable service.
Burton enjoyed music and his guitars and shared that hobby with many of his fellow residents at the St. Mary's Villa Independent and Assisted Living Centers in Nashville, Tenn., where he resided for the last several years of his life. He was always encouraging others to grab a guitar and join him in "I'll Fly Away." Today, he celebrates the Resurrection.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with his son, Richard Estep, officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

ELIZABETHTON — Barbara Heaton McElroy, 77, Elizabethton passed away Monday, October 11, 2010, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was a Carter County native. Barbara was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was a member of the Watauga Point United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the United Methodist Women, former President of the Local Chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was a member of the Republican Women's Committee. Barbara was appointed by former Governor Don Sundquist to the Tennessee State Medical Review Board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis H. McElroy, January 2006; by her father and mother, Dencie Heaton Estep and Earl Estep; and a brother, Bill Heaton.

Survivors include two daughters: Pamala Litz and husband, Eric, Tallahassee, Florida, and Debra McElroy, Boston, Mass.; Three Granddaughters: Amy Litz and husband, Scott Lato, Tallahassee, Florida, Rebecca Litz, of Atlanta, and Grace McElroy-Howard, Boston, Mass.; Her Brother: Richard Estep, Elizabethton; Sister: Vickie Cannon and her husband, Jerry, Elizabethton; Several Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and great nieces & nephews.

A Service to Celebrate the life of Barbara McElroy will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Watauga Point United Methodist Church with Dr. Mike Pinner officiating.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday October 15, 2010, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 6:50 p.m. Thursday and also at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Friday, will be: Greg Maupin, Greg Bowers, Mike Mathena, Jason Cannon, Bobby Cordell and Jonathan Fair. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jim Linebaugh, Bob Eicher, Millard Day, Gary Whittington, Garret Whittington, Danny Carver and Larry Carver.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Watauga Point United Methodist Church.

Judy Mae Bowers, 76, Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord, Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness. She was born December 18, 1944 to the late Coolidge and Ethel Estep Bowers.
In earlier years, Judy was employed at the East Tennessee Chair Company. Later she was employed as a house keeper. She loved cleaning her house, watching Fox News and loved to listen to Southern Gospel Music. She was a member of East Side Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Shelia Payne and Darla Bowers.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Dewey Bowers; three children, Jeffrey (Barbara) Bowers and Pam (Bryon) Gouge, all of Elizabethton, and Tina (Bobby) Miller, Siloam, N.C.; five grandchildren, Jeff “Skeeter” Bowers, Megan Buckles, Lacey Pasquale, Erica Riggs and Daniel Miller; one great-granddaughter, Kelsey Pasquale; two brothers, Terry Bowers and Kelly (Lynn) Bowers; and two sisters, Kathy (Bill) Hyder and Debra Crouse. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, in the Bowers Cemetery (Roy Bowers Road) with her son-in-law, Bryon Gouge, officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
