    Notes:

    A veteran of World War II, winning four battle stars as a Combat Infantryman in the European Theatre. He was wounded in France in 1944, as a member of Company A, 117th Infantry, 30th Division, which was inducted into Federal Service in Elizabethton in 1940. He served with this unit and with a sister regiment for more than five years during the conflict. Following the war, he entered the US Postal Service and was employed at the Elizabethton Post Office as a rural mail carrier on Route 6. He was a member of the American Legion,Watauga Post #49.He was a member the Oak Street Baptist Church, faithfully serving on the Board of Deacons for the past several years.

    Virginia L. Ellis, 88, born June 22, 1922, of Elizabethton died Sunday, May 15, 2011 in Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton.

    She was the daughter of the late Robert T. and Katherine Shell Ellis. She was born in Erwin, Unicoi County, Tennessee but moved to Carter County at an early age and grew up in the Keenburg Community.

    She was employed in the Comptroller's Department of Beaunit Corporation as secretary and cashier for twenty-three years and later worked as a bookkeeper in the Superintendent's Office of the Carter County School System for seventeen years, retiring in 1983. Ms. Ellis was a member of Borderview Christian Church. She also had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer for the Carter County Adult Reading Program. She always displayed a love and an interest in the welfare of others, and cared for the sick and the elderly as long as her health permitted.

    Ms. Ellis was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Ellis and by brothers, Jack T. Ellis, Walter Pat Ellis, Harold R. Ellis and Phillip E. Ellis; and by nephews, David Ellis, Lynn Ellis and a niece, Kimberly Lewey.

    Survivors include her husband, Winston Redford, Johnson City; six nieces, Kelly Ellis White, Chattanooga, TN, Elaine E. Cook, Abingdon, VA; Katherine E. Barker, Hester E. Honeycutt, Barbara E. Melton and Nancy Katherine Ellis, all of Elizabethton, and three nephews, Jack Patrick Ellis, Ringgold, GA, H. Douglas Ellis, Abingdon, VA and Frederick L. Ellis, Elizabethton.

    Funeral service for Virginia L. Ellis will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, May 16, 2011 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with eulogy to be given by Mr. Scott Reynolds. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Scott Reynolds and Mr. Ray Don Markland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-7:00 P.M. on Monday prior to the funeral service.

    Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be her family, friends; special friends, Charlotte Newton, Jo Ann Bowers, Richard Tittle and Winfrey Curtis, neighbors and her church family. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:55 A.M. on Tuesday for the graveside service.

    The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home for their love and care shown to Ms. Ellis.

    To those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers donations may be made to any church, community project or charity of their choice.

    Nancy was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and East Tennessee State University. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Ellis.
    Survivors include her mother, Iris Jenkins Ellis; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Mike Melton; her nephews, Vance and Dan Melton; several cousins; and many beloved friends.
    It was her wish to be cremated and no services are planned.

    ELIZABETHTON - Ann Ellis Melton, 65, Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 4, 2021 at her residence. She was born November 10, 1955 in Elizabethton. She was a 1973 graduate of Elizabethton High School and East Tennessee State University where she was an Art Major. She was a homemaker and prior to that she was an employee of the Carter County Health Department. Barbara was a happy member of Immanuel Baptist Church She was preceded in death by her father: Jack Ellis and a sister: Nancy Ellis.

    Survivors include her husband of 34 years: Mike Melton. Two Sons: Vance Tipton Melton and Daniel Taylor Melton. Her Mother: Iris Jenkins Ellis. Her special cousins and very close friends: Hester Honeycutt, Katherine Ellis, Lou Ellis, Wayne Jenkins, Patty Smith Humphrey, Danny “Pert” Jenkins, Doug Ellis, Jackie Roke and other special cousins.

    A Service to Celebrate the life of Barbara Melton will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2021 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Travis Biller and Pastor Carroll Melton officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2021 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Tommy & Susan Rhodes. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday will be: Mike Melton, Vance Melton, Marc Keene, Jeff Shell, Chris Stanbery and Chris Cornett.
