David was originally buried in the Cable Cemetery, located on the left bank of the Watauga River, 100 feet from Elk River Road, in the Lower Elk Community. His death notice was provided by James Cable of Butler. When the Watauga Dam was built,the TVA inventoried all cemeteries that would be covered, attempted to contact the next of kin for those buried in those cemeteries, and made arrangements for the remains to be reinterred elsewhere. Arthur Cable advised TVA that he was David's grandson, and directed that his remains be reinterred in the Whitehead Cemetery. This cemetery is located near where the Cable Cemetery was located, and is on high ground overlooking Watauga Lake. It is between Little Milligan Community and Elk Mills Community, on US Highway 321. It is one of the prettiest spots on Watauga Lake.

Mack D. Arnold, age 94, Neva, Roan Creek Community, died at his home Friday at 6:00 p.m. after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Johnson County, a retired farmer and member of the Christian Church.
Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Ruth Arnold, Neva; three sons, Ross Arnold, Lonnie Arnold and Connie Arnold, all of Neva; two daughters, Mrs. E.E. Nave, of Mountain City and Mrs. Ruby Shelton, Neva; one step-son, Worley Sexton, Neva; two step-daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Cress, Mountain City and Mrs. Olivine Morefield, Mountain City; one brother, John Arnold, Mountain City and one sister, Mrs. Eddie Smith of Valley Forge, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted from the Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. H.C. Price and Rev. Ernest Carrier, officiating.
Burial was in Arnold cemetery.

John W. Arnold, age 93, of Route 3, Mountain City, died at the residence early Tuesday morning following an illness of three weeks. A native and lifelong resident of Johnson County, he was a member of the Piney Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Eugene Arnold of Johnson City, and a daughter, Mrs. Lissie Walker of the home. Thirty grandchildren and a number of great and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted from the Little Doe Baptist church at 2:00 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 14) with the Rev. Tom Biggar officiating.
Burial was in the Shoun cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Duff Arnold, Shouns; two daughters, Mrs. Velma Mink, and Mrs. Sarah Tester, both of Neva; one sister, Mrs. Iva Lee Church, Johnson City; 23 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was a retired employee of Southern Railway, having worked there more than 50 years. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Funeral services were conducted from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Monday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Ernest Caarrier[sic] and Rev. Tom Worley officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery.
Pallbearers were R.L. Wilson; Roy Bartlett, Clate Tester, Robert Grindstaff, Dale Vaught and Earl Shull. Flower bearers were the ladies of the church and neighbors.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. at the Little Doe Baptist Church with Rev. G. Blackburn and Rev. Paul Dyson in charge.

Born in Doeville, TN, on May 20, 1916, to Daniel Stacy and Mary Alice Stout Wallace, she was predeceased by her nine brothers and sisters.

In 1937, she married Herbert A. Cleveland, of Avondale, PA, who was killed in France during World War II.

Mrs. Cleveland moved to Gulfport in 1953 and is survived by two daughters, Barbara Cleveland Dye and Sharon Cleveland Layman; grandson, Bryan Keith Layman; great grandson, Brandon Keith Layman; a special niece, Hazel Weaver, of Elizabethton, TN, and her daughter, Debbie Sparks, of Jonesborough, TN; as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews and their families.

Daniel Stacy "D.S." Wallace, 85, 300 S. Watauga Avenue, Elizabethton, died
Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at his residence.

A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Daniel S. and Mary
Alice Stout Wallace. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
his wife, Effie N. Wallace, May 4, 2005.

Mr. Wallace had lived a number of years in Elizabethton. He was a retired
employee of Allied Sheet & Metal, Johnson City, and was also a farmer. He was
of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Wallace served in the United States Army during World War II.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Sherry Wallace,
of the home, and Carl and Iris Wallace of Roan Mountain; a daughter and son-in-
law, Rebecca and Brian Harrison of Elizabethton; his stepchildren, Betty
Taylor, Pam Pierce and Jeff Pierce, all of Elizabethton, and Pat Winters of
Spring City, Tenn.; a sister, Pearl Wallace of Florida; a special sister-in-
law, Geneva Scott of Washington; his grandchildren, Michael Harrison, Greg
Wallace, Stacey Wallace, Amanda Metros, Katie Wallace, Matt Winters, Jennifer
Winters, Amanda Worley, Kacei Pierce, Gary, Kathy, Carol, Shannon and Angie
Taylor; and his great-grandchildren, Alexis Wallace, McKenzie Wallace, Natalie
Metros, Nevaeh Wallace, Callie and Jacob Worley.

Funeral services for Mr. Wallace were conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday,
October 25, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim "Butch" Stout
officiating. Music was provided by Mack and Edna Presnell. Graveside services
and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 26, in the Wallace
Family Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Captain Lynn H.
Folsom VFW Post No. 2166. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at
the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, will be Dale Cordell, Greg Wallace,
Gary Taylor, Jeff Pierce, James Berry, Allen Frost, John Bulla and Rick
Oliver. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to some special
friends: Victor and Judy Deloach, Shane Barger, Kathy Charles, Allen and
Brenda Frost, John and Novella Stines, Adventa Hospice employees, Amedisys

Claude C. Arnold, age 35, a Johnson county native and a veteran of World War II, died Saturday night, Dec. 4, in Creston, N.C., of what Carolina officers termed a self-inflicted wound.
C. S. Neal, clerk of the Superior Court in Jefferson, N.C., quoted the Ashe county coroner as saying that Arnold died as the result of a self-inflicted rifle wound.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

He was a member of the Liberty Christian Church.
Arnold was a native of Johnson County but had lived in the Tri-Cities area for a number of years before going to Chattanooga, where he had resided for the past ten years.
He is survived by the widow, Daisy Bean Arnold; two daughters, Mrs. Garnett Hilton and Launa[sic] May Arnold, both of Bristol; a sister, Mrs. G. E. Burton of Norfolk, Va.; three brothers, T. C. Arnold of Norfolk, Va., T. R. Arnold of Nashville, and Dee Arnold of Mountain City, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Liberty Christian Church with H. T. Mabry officiating. The Masonic order conducted graveside services. Burial was in Phillippi Cemetery.

Funeral services for Everett Graydon Arnold, 51, of 140 East Highland Road, Johnson City, who died in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Mountain Home Sunday morning, will be conducted at the Central Church of Christ, of which he was an Elder, Thursday at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. J. Edward Nolin officiating. Burial will be in the Monte Vista Burial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Roy Booher, H. E. Jones, Frank Woodby, Nathe[sic] Webb, Paris Miller, and Connie Lewis. The American Legion Post Number 64 of Johnson city will render military services at the grave.
Flower bearers will be the ladies of the church.
Mr. Arnold was a Veteran of World War I, a Lieutenant in the State Guard, and a member of the Mountain City American Legion Post Number 67. Prior to coming to Johnson City in 1943, he was a well-known merchant in Johnson County.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Janie Wilkinson Arnold; three sons, Ralph of Chattanooga, Gene of Abilene, Texas, and Malcolm of Johnson City; one daughter, Miss Lois Arnold of Washington, D.C.; four brothers, J.C. of Chattanooga, Theodore of Carthage, Dee of Mountain City and Tom of Norfolk, Virginia; and one sister, Mrs. G. E. Burton of Norfolk, Virginia.
The body was moved to the home this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the chapel of the Tetrick Funeral Home where it will remain until 12:30 p.m. Thursday when it will be taken to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour.

Mr. Arnold was a native of Johnson County, son of the late Grant and Ellen Forrester Arnold. Mr. Arnold attended the First Christian Church of Mountain City.

Sam was probably named after Joseph Gervais. Joseph was a French-Canadian, later American, pioneer settler and trapper in the Pacific Northwest. Joseph joined the Pacific Fur Company, a venture owned by John Jacob Astor. After trapping throughout the Oregon territiory for the Hudson's Bay Company,[7] Gervais permanently settled on French Prairie at the site of what is now the town of Gervais. This is the area where Sam's father Joseph Alexander DeLoach came seeking employment between 1910 and 1920. It is more than a coincidence that Joseph named his first two sons Gervais and Astor.

About a year after the DeLoach family moved to Johnson City, Tennessee, Sam officially changed his name to Samuel Carter, the name of his grandfather. Sam joined the Civil Conservation Corps after the DeLoach family moved to Johnson City. Following a tour of duty at the Morristown, TN, camp, he attended East Tennesse State Normal College for a quarter. He dropped out of college, and had a series of odd jobs. Following the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, he was drafted into the Army. After reporting to Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, for Basic Training, he found that he did not like Army life and decided to come home to Tennessee. After a short period at home, he was arrested for being Absent Without Leave, and returned to Fort Oglethorpe. Realizing that he was going to have to stay in the Army, he began applying himself rigorously to his military tasks, and was soon selected for Officer Candidate School (OCS). By the end of WW II, he had advanced to the grade of Major in the Transportation Corps. Following the war, there was an Army-wide reduction of force, and Sam was given the rank of Master Sergeant and retained on active Army duty. When the Korean War broke out, he was returned to officer status, and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. He retired at this rank in 1956. Following his Army career, Sam became a real estate salesman in the Monterrey Bay area of California. He did quite well in this business, but after several years, found the long hours and weekend work distasteful. He and June sold their home in Monterrey, and moved to Walnut Creek, CA. After a short stint in full retirement, he got a job as a security guard at the Oakland Army Depot. He retired from this job when he was in his early 60's.

Mike DeLoach grew up in Campbell Hollow, near Doeville in Johnson County, Tennessee. He attended Doeville Elementary School and the Watauga Academy in Butler, Tennessee. When his family moved to Washington County in about 1934, he attended Jonesborough High School, where he graduated with honors and was the president of his class. His first employment was with the North American Rayon Corporation in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He grew tired of the shift work and working conditions at NARC, and quit that job in 1952. After holding a couple of temporary jobs as a used car salesman and working in the Circulation Department of the Johnson City Press Chronicle, he became a full time carpenter. He worked for several construction contractors, and later became a Building Trades Instructor at Daniel Boone High School in Gray, Tennessee. During his life, he was an active member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Johnson City, and the Fairview Methodist Church in the Fairview Community near Jonesborough. He was the first Cubmaster for Pack 38, sponsored by the Calvary Presbyterian Church, and was instrumental in making their scouting program a success. He was active in community projects and church commitees in Fairview. One of his lasting legacies was his love for the outdoors, a love which he deeply instilled in all his children.

Bernice was born in Johnson County, TN on July 28, 1924, to the late Floyd and Mary Williams Snyder. She lived most of her life in Elizabethton and was a member of the First Christian Church in Elizabethton. Some of her favorite activities included quilting, sewing, and exercising.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl S. Austin, her brothers and sisters: Pauline Simcox, Juanita Lasater, John L. Snyder, Floyd Snyder Jr., and Yvonne McEwen.

Bernice is survived by her son Carl Samuel Austin, Jr. and wife Lee Anne, Colbert, GA; grandson Samuel Blake Austin and wife Bradley, Dalton, GA; granddaughters Elizabeth Anne Austin, Atlanta, GA; and Emily Marie Austin, Colbert, GA. A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd & Mary Williams Snyder. Yvonne was a 1953 graduate of Johnson County High School. She had lived in Elizabethton for 64 years. She attended Happy Valley Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Pauline Simcox and Juanita Lassieter and two brothers: Floyd Snyder, Jr. and John L. Snyder.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years: Harold McEwen. Two Sons: Doug (Teresa) McEwen, Bowling Green, Kentucky and Steve (Paula) McEwen, Elizabethton. Ms. Stump was the daughter of the late W.L. and Ellen Tester Neatherly. She was a member of the First Christian Church. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouse, Paul Stump, in 1992; Two brothers, Earl Neatherly and James R. Neatherly; Two sisters, Christine E. Morefield and Mabel C. Gentry.

She is survived by two sisters, Mary Barker, of Mountain City, Tennessee, and Peggy Fleenor, of Bristol, Virginia; four nieces; and one nephew.

She was born December 14, 1920, in Johnson County TN to the late Walter Neatherly and Ellen Tester Neatherly. Mary graduated high school in Mendota, VA. She worked at Monroe Calculating Machines of Bristol, Virginia for 20 years until its closing. She was a housewife and loved being with her family and will be missed by all who knew her. Mary was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Blaine O Stout, 90, of Mountain City, TN, passed away peacefully December 23rd, 2022 after a period of declining health. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was born in Mountain City August 1, 1932, to Stacey and Hazel Stout. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Phillippi Stout and his brother, Bill Stout.

After marrying Elizabeth, his high school sweetheart, Blaine spent four years in the Air Force stationed in Salina, KS and Swindon, England. Upon returning to the states, they settled in Boone, NC where they raised their three sons. Blaine worked for Maymead Block Company for nine years and eventually retired in 1997 after a thirty-year career from Hound Ears Country Club. While living in Boone, Blaine attended flight school in Hickory and was a licensed pilot. He and Elizabeth were active members of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Boone. In 1999, Blaine and Elizabeth moved back to Mountain City to enjoy their retirement years where they became members of First Baptist Church of Mountain City.

A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Roby & Maude Smith Stout. He was a retired Transportation Supervisor with the Johnson County School System. He was a member and Deacon of the Little Doe Baptist Church, Butler. He served in the United States Navy.

He was a fifty-eight year member of the Roan Creek Masonic Lodge # 679, Member and Past Patron of Butler Chapter #218, Order of Eastern Star. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. He was a member of Jericho Temple, Kingsport.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Edward Stout.

Fred was an avid UT Vol Football Fan.

She was the daughter of the late James and Reta Grindstaff Cable. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford Peters, on May 19, 2006; one brother, Clifford Cable; one sister, Anna Mae Cable; one granddaughter, Carol Ann Harding Dean; and one niece, Thelma Forbes Frazier.

Mrs. Peters loved to quilt, working in her flowers, and was an avid reader.

Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Peters and wife, Ruth, NC, Dallas Peters, of the home; two daughters and a son in law, Charlotte Harding and husband, Bobby, and Marketta Peters, both of Elizabethton; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Annis "Bea" Forbes and Iona "Lid" Peters, both of Elizabethton. He was a C & C Operator and retired from Aerojet. He was a long-time member of the Johnson City Farmer's Market. He enjoyed making music, fishing and gardening.

Mr. Cable was a United States Army Veteran.

BRISTOL — John Barton Wilson, age 84, a former resident of Alhambra Drive, Bristol, TN passed away July 1, 2006 while in Life Care Center, Gray, TN.

He was a native Johnson County, TN a son of the late William and Dottie Arnold Wilson. He had lived in Bristol since 1943 and was a retired machinist with Raytheon, a member of Center View Church of Christ and a U.S. Army veteran.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Burlie Wilson, brothers, Wayne Wilson, Jack Wilson, Howard Wilson, Paul Wilson, Harry Wilson and a sister, Ora Tester.

Ruby Kate Wilson Moody, age 93, of Mountain City, Tennessee passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Mountain City Care Center. She was born on April 15, 1923 to the late Dr. William Clyde Wilson and Dottie Arnold Wilson. In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by a one sister, six brothers and a grandson, Michael Moody.

Ruby enjoyed the outdoors very much, especially feeding and watching the birds and her flowers. Ruby loved her family very much and loved cooking and having family get togethers. She was a gifted quilter and made many treasured quilts for her family. She had a special love for animals, especially cats and dogs, of which she had several throughout the years. Ruby was always willing to help others and volunteered at the Mountain City Care Center and Welcome Center. She always loved a good yard sale and the contents in her out building were proof of that.

She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist church.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughters: Carolyn Diugus and Nancy Mahala and husband Buster; sons: Billy Moody, Jimmy Moody and wife Barbara and Danny Moody; half- sisters: Lois Wilson Price and Mary Alice Wilson Roper; grandchildren: Jason Moody, Randy 'Bo' Pleasant, Andrew Roark and Erin Taylor; great grandchildren: MacKenzie Moody and Michael Wayne Moody; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

MOUNTAIN CITY — Blanche Belle Ward, age 97, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 29, 2012 at the Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center.

She was a life-long resident of Johnson County, the daughter of the late John and Mattie Courtner.

In addition to her parents, Blanche was preceded in death by her husband Wade Ward; three sisters, two brothers and two nephews.

Blanche was a member of Liberty Christian Church and a former employee of Blue Ridge Shoe Company.

She is survived by her brother, James Courtner and wife Mary of Hudson, NC; two daughters: Mary Miller of Mountain City, TN and Carolyn Hemming of Jefferson, NC; a son, Eddie Ward and wife Wanda of Jonesborough, TN; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2012 from the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Denton Hart and Steven Spencer to officiate. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Graveside Service and Interment will follow in the Brown Cemetery (behind Pine Grove Baptist Church). Grandsons and family will serve as pallbearers.

Pansy Parlee Courtner, age 90, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, January 06, 2018 at the Watauga Medical Center. She was born on June 6, 1927 to the late Clyde and Susie Fritts Courtner. Prior to her declining health, Pansy enjoyed working in her garden and flower beds. She always loved to sit on her porch and enjoy the outdoors and visit with family and friends. She was a member of Dewey Christian Church.

Kate O. Courtner, age 81, of 955 R.D. Campbell Road, Butler, Tennessee passed away Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Mountain City Care Center. She was a daughter of the late Clyde Courtner who passed away in 1995 and her mother Susie Fritts Courtner who passed away in 1948. Ms. Courtner was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church.

She was a homemaker who loved gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers; Walt Courtner, Loyd Courtner, and Howard Courtner.

Survivors include: three sons: Marvin Courtner, of the Home, I.G. Courtner, Butler, Tennessee and Kenneth Courtner and wife Vickie, Mountain City, Tennessee. two sisters: Violet Phillips of Butler, Tennessee Parlee Courtner, Mountain City, Tennessee and a brother Clarence Courtner, of Mountain City, Tennessee; ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was born on June 12, 1927 to the late Edward and Margaret 'Maggie' Arnold Nave. Survivors are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Arnold; two sisters, Ronnie Mae and Mary Ellen; two brothers, Stacy Ray, John Hobert; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Richardson; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Arnold.

Frances Lee Richardson, 69, 2100 E Watauga Ave., died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mrs. Richardson was a native of Butler, TN, and had lived most of her life in Johnson City.

Mrs. Richardson retired from Appalachian Christian Village.

She was of the Pentecostal Faith and attended Faith Community Church.

Vella Ward, 77, of Carter County, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 25, 2019, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Vella was born in Johnson County, Tenn., to the late Eugene and Annie Campbell Arnold. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Winnie Ruth Arnold; her husband of 33 years, John Henry Ward, in March 2019; a daughter, Betty Ann Hughes; her brothers, Bobby Gene Arnold, Dallas Arnold and James Arnold; two sisters, Sylvia Miller and Frances Richardson; and four step-brothers, Jerry McFall, Ronnie McFall, Bill McFall and Fred McFall.
Vella was a wise, selfless, loving, caring, kind, insightful and faithful woman of God and she was never afraid or avoided hard work. She was a faithful member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church and she retired from Baxter International after nearly 30 years of dedicated service. Vella enjoyed gardening in her flowers, journaling, going to church and praising the Lord. Most of all she loved and enjoyed taking care of her family and loved ones.

Marvin Dayton Wallace, age 81 of Mountain City, TN passed away Thursday January 10, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on May 2, 1937 in Johnson County, TN to the late Carl Wallace and Thelma Reece Wallace. In addition to his parents Dayton was preceded in death by three sons, Marvin Wallace, Jr., Dwight Wallace and Harry Thompson, his sister Pearl May, brothers, Robert Wallace, Charles Jack Wallace and Loyd Wallace.

Dayton was a United States Army veteran. He retired from Chrysler in Newark, DE. Dayton loved nature, enjoyed his front porch time, watching birds and his neighbors dogs. Those who knew him best know that Dayton enjoyed his morning Brandy.

Dayton is survived by his daughter, Barbara Wallace and fiancé Jay of West Grove, PA, brother, Cecil Wallace of Sweet Home, Oregon, grandchildren, Dana DiBenedetto and husband Salvatore of Landenberg, PA and Shannon Masten and fiancé Chris of Kennett Square, PA, great-grandchildren, Salvatore DiBenedetto and Giavanna DiBenedetto of Landenberg, PA, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Beatrice "Granny B" Whaley, age 86, 3627 Hwy. 321, Butler, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 29, 2007 from Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Clayton and Elizabeth Rainbolt Ward. Mrs. Whaley was a member of Little Milligan Baptist Church for seventy years where she was active in Women on Mission. She retired from the Carter County School System where she worked as an aide on the bus for handicapped students. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Whaley, November 13, 1988 and one son, James D. "John" Whaley in 1995. Ruby Lee Elliott, 90, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from her residence, following a brief illness. She was born in Carter County to the late Clayton and Mary Elizabeth Rainbolt Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Elliott on November 8, 1996; a son, John Donovan Elliott; three grandchildren, Cassie Elliott, John Elliott, Jr., and Gary Lynn Elliott; sisters, Beatrice Whaley and Louise Raines; an infant sister and an infant brother; four brothers, Frank, Tom, Ira, and Edward Ward.

Mrs. Elliott was retired from the Johnson City Medical Center as and LPN, where she had served for nineteen years. She was a member of Little Milligan Baptist Church and loved gardening, flowers, and being with her grandchildren and her dogs.

Survivors include one daughter, Ms. Brenda Elliott, Elizabethton; three sons, Richard Elliott and wife Linda, Johnson City; Gerald Elliott and wife Becky, High Springs, FL; and Keith Elliott and wife Robin, Elizabethton; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Elliott, Elizabethton; one brother, Fredrick Ward and wife Denise, Elizabethton; two sisters, Marjorie Pearson and Judy Mick and husband Bruce, all of Elizabethton; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and four special friends, Jan Williams, Tammy Winters, Patricia Ward, and Tom Ward.

The funeral service for Mrs. Elliott will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, July 12, 2013 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Nick Bradshaw, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Friday; or at the residence at anytime.

The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Richie Elliott, Jeremy Elliott, Adam Elliott, Phillip Grant, Robert Hagy and Wayne Berry. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Ward and friends and neighbors.

ELIZABETHTON — Ira M. Ward, 77, 110 King St., Elizabethton, died Sunday, April 17, 2005 at his residence. A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Clayton and Mary Elizabeth Rainbolt Ward. He had lived a number of years in Carter County. He was retired member of the Raytheon Coporation of Bristol. Mr. Ward served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Elizabethton Elks Lodge. He was a member and Past Worshipful Master of the Hampton Masonic Lodge #750. Mr. Ward was a former member of the Carter County Civil Service Board. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ward, a sister, Louise Rains and two brothers, Frank and Tom Ward. He was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Oliver Ward; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Steve Chambers, Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim C. and Joan Ward, and Rex and Crystal Ward, all of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Marinda and Matthew Lovelace, Beth Whitehead, Alex Chambers and Brianna Ward; three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jada Whitehead and Ryan Peterson; four sisters, Beatrice Whaley, Butler, Ruby Elliott, Marjorie Pearson and Judy Micks, all of Elizabethton; two brothers, Fred C. Ward, Elizabethton and Edward Ward, Gulfport, Mississippi. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005 in the National Cemetary, Mountain Home, with the Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Burial will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be Buddy Ward, Will Barkley, Greg Greer, Ray Buck, Randall Vines and Johnny Julian. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted by Hampton Masonic Lodge #750 at 8 p.m. Monday. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Tennessee National Guard. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Ward to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence.

Marjorie "Margie" Ward Pearson, age 85, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2015 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina.

Margie was born on April 26, 1930 in Carter County, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Clayton J. Ward and Mary Elizabeth Rainbolt Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Douglas Pearson; one son, Ken Pearson; four brothers, Tom, Frank, Ira, and Ed Ward; three sisters, Louise, Ruby and Bea; and three infant siblings.

Mrs. Pearson had worked in the cafeteria at Siam Elementary and was a member of Siam Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and "loving her grandchildren."

A graveside service to honor the life of Mrs. Marjorie "Margie" Ward Pearson will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Butler Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Campbell, officiating.

Marjorie married Ralph Douglas Pearson about 1950. On June 5th with all of his children home, Dad departed earth for a pain free Heavenly Home.
Once a Marine-always a marine especially if you were a drill instructor. We agreed that when Dad entered the Pearly Gates he began to instruct others.
He served our military in the U.S. Marine Corp proudly in combat and everyday life. Dad was quick to speak his mind but if it came from his heart you knew it. If you entered our home you knew that you were family.
If it were not for the loving care of Dr. Thad Carter and our precious MHG Surgery Outpatient Staff Nurses the past six years could have been worse. We will miss our drill instructor!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Mary Elizabeth Ward; three sisters, five brothers; and a great-grandson, Mikey.

He is survived by the most precious sacrificing woman on earth his wife, (our Mom), Patricia Ann Ward. He leaves four children, Janet Stewart (Roxy) of Saucier, James E. Ward, Jr. (Renee) of Yazoo City, Tambra Winters of Gulfport, Cheryl Lowman (Robert) of Pass Christian. The treasures of his life were his11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and the 3 great great-grandchildren that he left behind. He is also survived by 3 sisters, Ruby Elliott, Marjorie Pearson, Judy Mick, and a brother, Frederick Ward, all of Elizabethton, TN.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, O'Neal Road, Gulfport where friends may visit beginning at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Gulfport with USMC honors.
