J. H. Williams, 91, Succumbs To Complications Of Old Age
J. H. Williams, 91, one of the oldest and most prominent residents of Carter County, died at his home on Blue Spring Branch this morning at ten o'clock of complications.
A former Carter County teacher, Mr. Williams received his education at what is now known as Milligan College and was a classmate of Alf, Bob and Hugh Taylor. He was a lifelong resident of the county, and led an active live until the past few years. For a number of years he served as a member of the board of education.
He was the son of Capt. A. C. Williams of 13th Tennessee Infantry. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Hunter for the past fifty years.
Survivors are two sons, A. C. and T. B. Williams; two daughters, Mrs. Red Nave of Siam and Mrs. Ethel Salyer of Knoxville; three brothers, D. C., Levi and R. J. Williams; also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will probably be held Saturday afternoon from the home. Interment will be in the Buckles Cemetery.

JOHN A. BOWERS
John A. Bowers, age 66, constable of Carter County and life-long resident, passed away suddenly last night, apparently suffering a heart attack, at the South Side Christian Church where he was attending services.
He lived with his wife on route 1, whom he married 39 years ago. Mr. Bowers had been in ill health for the past year and has had several light heart attacks. He was a member of the Carter Christian Church.
Surviving him besides his wife Bessie, are two daughters, Mrs. T. F. Wagner of Norton, Va., and Mrs. Dewey Bradshaw of 520 Siam Road; two sons, Harmon and T. C. Bowers of the city; three sisters, Mrs. J. C. Bradley of Bastrop, Texas, Mrs. Caroline Nidiffer of route 2, Mrs. Kate McQueen of 207 Academy; and one brother, Bob Bowers of Bristol.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at the South Side Christian Church at two o'clock with the Rev. Grant H. Laws, pastor of the church, in charge, assisted by the Rev. Johnny Hall. Burial will be made in the DeLoach Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Lofton Keller, George Angel, John Turner, Tine Morgan, Ray Heaton, and William Bowman.
The body will be removed from the Tetrick Funeral Home to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Dewey Bradshaw of 520 Siam Road at four o'clock this evening.

Carma Collins - ELIZABETHTON
Carma Collins, age 100, a wonderful mother, formerly of Blue Springs Community, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, August 26, 2008 from Hermitage Health Center, Elizabethton, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Collins was a Carter County native, born to the late Isaac and Doshia Bowers Williams. She was a charter member of Nidiffer's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.

Mrs. Collins was a homemaker and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard C. Collins; one sister: Lola Oliver; and one brother: Grover Williams.

Survivors include five daughters and two sons-in-law: Burna Pierce, Lola Bowers, Novella Heaton, all of Elizabethton, Myrtle and Ken Gilliam, Kingston, TN, Betty and Andy Edwards, Elizabethton; five sons and two daughters-in-law: Willard G. Collins, Arthur and Christine Collins, Earl R. and Katherine Collins, Luther L. Collins, Bobby D. The Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Collins will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, August 28, in the Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel with Rev. Clate Briggs and Rev. Bill Watson officiating. Music will be under the direction of J.C. and Friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence of her daughter, Novella Heaton, 145 Southgate Dr., Elizabethton, at other times.

The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, August 29, in Pearl Bowers Cemetery. Everyone is welcome to meet the family at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Lawrence Pierce, Steve Heaton, Michael Collins, Teddy Collins, Bobby Collins and Jackie Collins. Mrs. Susie Bowers Anderson, 99, of 810 North Roan Street, Elizabethton, formerly of the Blue Springs Community, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Lawson and Mary Williams Bowers and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alf Anderson; a son, Dallas Anderson and a daughter, Doris Grindstaff. Mrs. Anderson was the oldest member of the Blue Springs Christian Church. She loved to work in her garden and she enjoyed quilting.

She is survived by a daughter Mary Anderson; a son, Carl Anderson, both of Elizabethton; three grandsons, Albert Grindstaff, MO; Gerald Grindstaff and Larry Grindstaff, both of Elizabethton; three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Albert G. Williams, age 97, of Elizabethton passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Albert was born in Elizabethton to the late William Grant and Margaret Kathryn Crow Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Geneva Hart Williams; his second wife, Wilma Adams Williams; a brother, Earl Williams; and his special friends, Wayne Hicks, Joe Rominger and Bill Roten.

Albert had worked as an automotive machinist and was a member of Southern Baptist Church in Gray. Albert was a United States Army veteran, having joined in 1941 and was deployed to active duty in 1942. He served at Aleutian Island in Dutch Harbour, Alaska in the vehicle maintenance division and attained the rank of SPC4 before returning home in 1945, following the surrender of Japan. He was quoted as saying about an instance while on active duty, "I had 5 or 6 men with me. I had one wrecker, put a man in each vehicle and pulled them all at one time, to a scrapyard eight miles away, on a morning that is was 38 degrees below zero."

Albert was a member of Capt. Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post 2166, a member of the NRA, the American Legion Post 49 and past president of the CB Club. He donated to the DAV and was a huge NasCar fan, having helped build Herman Beam's car in 1960.

Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Neil McNaughton, of Ball Ground, GA; a son and daughter-in-law, William D. "Billy" and Sandra Williams, of Morristown, TN; two step sons, Dave Adams and wife Sandy, of Gray, TN and Dennis Adams and wife Connie, of Nashville, TN; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and many close friends and neighbors.

A gathering of remembrance for Mr. Albert G. Williams will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 4, 2016 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM in the chapel, prior to the service. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.

JOHNSON CITY - Wilma A. Snyder, age 89, of Johnson City, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 1, 2019 from the Waters of Johnson City.

Ms. Snyder was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Eugene and Laura Lewis Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Williams and Billy Williams; and four sisters, Anna Lee Stout, Pauline Proffitt, Stella Campbell and Beulah Williams.

Ms. Snyder had worked as a certified nursing assistant and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cross stitching and doing art.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Kay Meade and husband Mike, of Johnson City, Carol Shull, of Johnson City and Rod Snyder and wife Mary Ann, of Piney Flats; her grandchildren, Matt Marshall, Brooke Armistead (Ben Spearman), and Brent Shull; and her great grandchildren, Campbell Marshall and Haydn Spearman.

Ida Brewster Smith, 87, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Ida was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Andrew and Emma Williams.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, D.C. Williams, Ernest Williams and Preston Williams, and two sisters, Jane Perry and Goldie Williams.
Ida retired as a nursing home aid and was a homemaker. She was a member of Nidiffer Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Frederick Albert Brewster III, of the home; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pauline Oliver of Elizabethton.

ELIZABETHTON - Franklin D. "Frank" Richardson, 77, Elizabethton, passed a way unexpectedly Monday, February 25, 2019 at his residence.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Wiley T. & Anna Pearl Williams Richardson. Frank was a 1961 graduate of Elizabethton High School and attended Steed College. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was an employee of North American Rayon Corporation for 35 + years until its closing and he retired from Mapes Piano String. He was a member of Keenburg Free Will Baptist Church. Frank was a member of the Carter County Honor Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 26 years Charlotte Lou Fair Richardson who passed away June 13, 2012, by two brothers: Stephen Paul Richardson and Carl Richardson and two sisters: Sylvia Richardson and Florence Stevens.

Survivors include two daughters: Angela Manning & husband Foye, Morristown, TN and Diana Wright, Elizabethton. His Grandsons: Thomas Tester, David "Dylan" Wright and Franklin Wright, His Granddaughters: Nickie Grayless, Anna Jennings, Emily Wright, Great Granddaughters: Makayla Tester, Zoë Hyatt, Olivia Tester, Izzabella Wright and Chasity Grayless, Great Grandsons: Timothy & Steven Jennings and Spencer Heaton. Joan Ward, 82, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord and loved ones on Thursday, November 21, 2019, from Ivy Hall Nursing Home in Elizabethton. Joan was born in Elizabethton to the late J.D. and Addie Williams Oliver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and loving father, Lee R. Ward; a son, Jerry Lee Ward; two sisters, Mae Buckles and Minnie Williams; and two brothers, Clayton Oliver and Harley Oliver.
Joan was a native of Carter County, a devoted, loving and caring Mother and a member of Blue Springs Christian Church. She loved her church, garden work and the people of her church.
Those left to cherish her many wonderful memories include her daughter, Teresa Ward of Elizabethton; a son, Jeffrey Ward and wife Patty of Glen St. Mary, Fla.; three sisters, Wanda Bennett, Nadine Ward and Louis, all of Elizabethton; three grandsons, James Miller and wife Bailey of Elizabethton, Aaron Ward of Virginia and Billy Collins of Picksburg, Pa.; and her granddaughter, Bianca Ward of California. ELIZABETHTON — Willard G. "Billy" Collins, 85, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.

He was the son of the late Maynard and Carmie Collins and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Collins.

Mr. Collins was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Army. He was a former employee of Bemberg, North American Rayon Corporation and was retired from American Water Heater. He was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church. Mr. Collins enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved baseball.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie Collins and his wife, Tami, Bobby L. Collins and his wife, Connie; two granddaughters, Jacquelyn Collins, Macy Collins; two great-granddaughters, Logan Collins, Katlyn Becht; a great-grandson, Tyler Dugger; five grandsons, Davey Collins, Dustin Collins and his wife, Lindsey, Brandon Collins, Bryant Collins and Bud Hicks; five sisters, Betty Edwards and her husband, Andy, Novella Heaton, Lola Bowers, Burnie Pierce, all of Elizabethton, Myrtle (Tootsie) Gilliam and her husband, Ken, Harriman, TN; three brothers, Arthur Collins, Luther Collins, Bobby D. Collins, all of Elizabethton; a special friend, Loretta Wilson and her children, Lisa Wilson, Tammy Carpenter, Steven Wilson, all of Elizabethton; other special friends, Brittany, Nikki, Arie and Heather. The funeral service for Mr. Collins will be conducted on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with Rev. Bobby Stout and Dr. William Duncan officiating. Music will be under the direction of the New Liberty Baptist Church Quartet.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00-7:00 PM Saturday prior to the service and at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Connie Collins, 324 Pine Hill Road, at other times.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Sunday, June 5, 2011, at 2:00 PM in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Maynard R. and Carma Williams Collins. Mr. Collins was a retired employee of Mapes Piano String Company after 50 years of service. He was an active member of Hunter United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion and the Unaka Rod & Gun Club. His hobbies were woodworking, gardening and bird watching. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife of fifty six years: Kathryn Nidiffer Collins. Five Sisters: Bernie Pierce, Lola Bowers, Novella Heaton and Betty Edwards and husband Andy all of Elizabethton and Myrtle Gillian and husband Ken, Kingston, Tenn. ELIZABETHTON - On Monday, December 23, 2019, Lola Bowers, age 84, of Elizabethton, Tennessee entered home to be with her Lord and Savior.

Lola was born on March 8, 1935 to the late Maynard and Carma Collins. She spent most of her career working at Citizen's Bank where she met and became friends with many in the community. She was a devoted member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church and loved her church family very much. Lola was married to the late John F. Bowers. They spent their lives together making wonderful memories by traveling the country, camping and taking care of each other.

Many that knew Lola affectionately called her "Dodo". She was a caring and fun loving sister, aunt and friend. Dodo wanted those around her to love Jesus Christ, be happy and live life to the fullest.

A service to celebrate the life of Lola Bowers will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 28, 2019 in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Reverend Doug Hinshaw, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday or at the home of Lola Bowers at other times.

ELIZABETHTON - Novella C. Heaton, age 82, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Hermitage Health Care Center following an extended illness.

She was a daughter of the late Maynard and Carma Williams Collins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Command Sgt. Major Samuel Heaton, Jr. U.S. Army Retired, two sisters, Burnia Pierce and Myrtle Gilliam and three brothers, Authur Collins, Willard "Billy" Collins and Earl R. Collins.

Novella retired as an aide from Unaka Elementary School. She was a spunky military wife and a wonderful Christian mother and grandmother. She was a member of Nidiffer Chapel Free Will Baptist Church where she sang in the quartet. Novella enjoyed sewing and making quilts and spending time with her family. She was known for treating people well and with respect.

Myrtle G. Collins Gilliam was born on January 6, 1945 in Elizabethton, Tenn.
Myrtle, 73, passed this world into the waiting arms of Jesus on June 11, 2018. She will fondly be remembered as a loving wife, wonderful mother, doting grandmother and faithful sister and friend.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, Maynard and Carma Collins; brothers, Willard, Earl and Arthur Collins; and sister, Bernice Pierce.
Myrtle is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ken Gilliam; her daughters, Melissa (David) Lane and Jennifer (Jamie) Raymer; and six grandchildren, Dawson and Kailey Lane, Colby, Corey, Mackenzie and Brodie Raymer. Surviving also are her brothers, Bob and Luther Collins, and sisters, Betty (Andy) Edwards, Lola Bowers and Novella Heaton, all of Elizabethton, Tenn. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Marjorie (Jim) Blalock and Carolyn (Jeff) Hamilton, and brother-in-law, Ron (Sue) Gilliam, all of Gate City, Va. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Myrtle lived primarily in Elizabethton until 1984 when she relocated to Roane County with her family. Her first job was working for the FBI in Washington, DC. Later she went to work for Great Lakes Research in Elizabethton where she met Ken, the love of her life. While in Roane County she worked for Linda Raby, CPA and finished her career with Daniels, Uselton and Clay, CPA in Kingston. She retired in 2011.
Myrtle was a member of Young's Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Kingston. The family expresses appreciation for the support of Pastor Rev. Dale Watson and the members of Young's Chapel. The family also gives thanks to Helen Lane for the many hours she sat with Myrtle during her illness and for caring love given by her dear friend, June Wilson. The family also appreciates the support from neighbors and friends for all they have done.
Finally, the family wishes to acknowledge the nurses and staff with Covenant Hospice for the compassionate care they provided during the last difficult days. Also, the family is appreciative for the care and help furnished by friend and family physician, Dr. Rodney McMillin.
The family will celebrate the life of Myrtle Gilliam by receiving of friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at Fraker Funeral Home in Kingston. The service will follow at 5 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Dale Watson presiding with interment following the service at Lawnville Cemetery.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Rudy A. and Lottie Bowers Carden.

died Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Carden was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Rhudy and Lottie Bowers Carden. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Arthene Carden, September 28, 2000.
Mr. Carden had made his home with his daughter for the past year. He was former employee of Tennessee Chair Company and retired from the Carter County School System as a custodian at Unaka High School and Hunter Elementary School. He was a member of the Old Horseshoe Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Preston Rosenboro, Bristol; a sister, Eliza Bowers, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Ashton Rosenboro and Jayden Rosenboro; and a special friend, Ella Louise Nidiffer. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Carl J. Anderson, 79, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at his residence. Carl was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Alf and Susie Bowers Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Grindstaff, and a brother, Dallas Anderson.
Carl had worked as a cook at Dino's Restaurant in Elizabethton for over 50 years. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith and liked watching wrestling and eating out with his sister.

Floyd "Tete" Bowers, 75, formerly of 1721 Hwy. 91, Elizabeton, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at Life Care Center of Elizabeton following an extended illness.

Mr. Bowers was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Horace and Kate Williams Bowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Bowers Joseph and Ruth Bowers, and a grandson, Daniel Cambell.

Mr. Bowers was a member of Hunter First Batist Church. He retired from Ford Motor Company and had been a car dealer in Elizabethton.

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Kenneth Leonard Williams, age 86, of Jacksonville, Florida, formerly of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, as a result of a fall.

Kenneth was born in Elizabethton on December 17, 1931 to the late Clyde Williams, Sr and Flossie Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Kate (Katie) Stout Williams; a sister, Nona (Sue) Williams; and a brother, Clyde Williams, Jr.

Kenneth was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Tennessee Department of Human Services, where he had served as Regional Director. He had worked as a crew member of several movie and television shows. Kenneth had played fast pitch softball for several local teams for many years and was an avid sports fan and western film buff. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Johnson City, Tennessee and had presently attended services at the Cypress Village Retirement Community in Florida.

Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Debra Harvey and Barbara Harris, both of Jacksonville, FL; a son-in-law, Chris Harris, also of Jacksonville; a granddaughter, Amanda Harvey and husband Aaron Yampolski and two great grandchildren, Emma Katherine (Katie) and Lucas Yampolski, all of Los Angeles, CA; and a brother, Gary Williams, of Elizabethton. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

Willard Coy Bowers, 81, of Carter County, Tenn., went home to his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 29, 2019, after a brief illness. Willard was born on May 15, 1938 to the late Coy and Maggie Williams Bowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Bowers, and a brother, Kermit Bowers.
Willard was employed by Gordons and Thomasville Furniture and retired after 30 years of service. He was a member of Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church. He was also a member of Southern Harmony and Headed Home Gospel Quartet. He also accompanied the church choir.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wilma Stevens Bowers, and son, Aaron Bowers; three brothers, Eldridge, Charles and Carroll; and three sisters, Fredia, Faye and Marge. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and his friends from The Barn, Sonny Fletcher's Store and Burger Hut.
Willard was well known for his musical talent of playing the Dobro, homemade apple butter and honey. Many friendships were made over the years and Willard treasured each and every one of them.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 1, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Roger Haley and the Rev. Justin Hodges officiating. Music will be provided by Ronnie Blevins. Interment will follow in the Stevens Cemetery, Rittertown Road, Hampton. Active pallbearers will be Chris Bowers, Raymond Carrier, Chris Williams, Tommy Verran, Jamie McKinney and Jimmy Eggers. James Bbby Gentry, 88, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019, at his residence. He was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Emerson and Minnie Collins Gentry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Gentry.
Mr. Gentry was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Men's I Sunday School Class. He retired from Snap-On Tools.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Leona Canter Gentry; a son, Charles Michael Gentry; a daughter, Shelia Gentry; a grandson, Andrew and wife Danielle Birchfield; one great-grandson, Cooper Wayne Birchfield; two brothers, A.E. "Kayo" Gentry and wife Betty and Cameron "Buck" Gentry and wife Janice, all of Elizabethton; and two sisters, Nellene Crow of Johnson City and Chestine Larimer of Erwin. Robert E. "Gene" Edwards, 85, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, December 12, 2014 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Stewart and Faye Collins Edwards.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II and also the Korean Conflict.
Prior to his retirement he worked at North American Rayon Corporation and construction at Tennessee Eastman. For a period of time he taught Welding with the Adult Vocational Program at Science Hill High School.
He attended Siam Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Emogene Hayes Edwards, December 24, 2005 and a brother: Ted Edwards.
Gene was an avid Vol fan.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Cindy & David Jenkins and Lisa & Gary Jenkins all of Elizabethton. Five grandchildren: Nathan Jenkins, Lance Jenkins and wife Carrie, Joseph Jenkins, Logan Jenkins and Jessica White and husband Brad. Five great-grandchildren. One brother and sister-in-law: Tommy Edwards and wife Earlene, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews. A special aunt: Milan Herman, Elizabethton.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jack Roddy officiating.
Graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music under the direction of Mr. Bill Anderson, "Singing for the Savior" and Miranda Anderson.

Tommy Gerald Edwards, 84, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Stewart and Faye Collins Edwards.
In earlier years, Tommy was employed as a machinist at the Raytheon Corporation and retired as an over the road truck driver with Richard Diehl. He was a member of Siam Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted and Robert Gene Edwards.

Mr. Charles E. Lipford, 86, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
He was the son of the late Jesse and Gladys Collins Lipford and was born in Carter County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty-one years, Nora Grace Heaton Lipford on November 8, 2008; and a sister, Jo Lipford Smith.
Mr. Lipford was a graduate of Hampton High School, served in the United States Air Force as a radar technician during the Korean War, and graduated from East Tennessee State Teachers College. He taught algebra at Elizabethton High School and retired in 1987 after thirty years of service and was the first teacher in the Elizabethton City School System to be inducted into the Imagination Library Teacher's Hall of Fame.
He was a member of Siam Baptist Church where he served the church as a trustee. Mr. Lipford was an avid fan of both football and basketball at Elizabethton High School and attended most every home game. His hobbies included woodworking, reading and photography and he loved spending time in these activities. He also loved to keep in touch with his friends and former students using social media.
He is survived by a sister, Jessie Montgomery and her husband, Carroll, Elizabethton; two brothers, Gary "Butch" Lipford and his wife, Nancy, Elizabethton; Jimmy Lipford, Elizabethton; his nieces and nephews, Janie McKinney, David Smith, Pat Yelton, Pam Campbell, Becky Raulston, Chipper Montgomery, Gary A. Lipford, Mike Lipford, Chris Lipford, Jaime Lipford, Betty Lipscomb; a sister-in-law, Lucille Heaton and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Lipford will be conducted on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Jack Roddy and Rev. Jacob Guinn officiating. His niece, Becky Raulston, will deliver the eulogy. Music will be under the direction of Robin Montgomery and Bill Anderson.

ELIZABETHTON - Jimmy Lipford, age 84, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 4, 2018, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Jimmy was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Jesse and Gladys Collins Lipford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Joyce Hampton Lipford; a granddaughter, Robin Yelton; a sister, Jo Smith; and a brother, Charles Lipford.

Jimmy was a loving father and grandfather and retired as a drywall finisher and painter. He was a member of Stoney Creek Church of Christ and enjoyed gardening, yard work, Braves baseball, and supporting his grandchildren's activities.

ELIZABETHTON - Jack "Bud" Collins, Jr., age 77, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, March 20, 2017 from his residence, following a brief illness. Bud was born in Carter County on September 5, 1939 to the late Jack Durant Collins, Sr. and Hazel Stout Collins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Grace Stout.

Bud had worked as a millwright and was a member of Borderview Christian Church of Elizabethton. He enjoyed working on and racing cars. Bud also enjoyed hunting and taking care of his horse, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Bud is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Lena Bell Collins, of the home; three children, Karen Bowers and husband Jackie, Judy Thomason and husband Eddie, and Buddy Collins and wife Tina; his grandchildren, Heather and husband Bobby, Emily and husband Garett, Jason, Kortney and Chris, and Will Thomason; two great grandchildren, Zoey Townsend and Lexi Vanover; one sister, Glenda Street and husband Daniel; one brother, Donnie Collins and wife Patricia; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

ELIZABETHTON - Donnie Collins, age 75, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with his Savior on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Donnie was born in Elizabethton to the late Jack D. Collins, Sr. and Hazel Stout Collins. In addition to his parents, Donnie was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack D. Collins, Jr. “Bud”; and a granddaughter, Addison Shepherd.
Donnie retired as an office administrator for Mullican Flooring and was a member of East Fairview Free Will Baptist Church where he currently served as a deacon. Donnie enjoyed working with computers and his grandchildren were his entire life!

Nina Williams Ellis, 79, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at her home following an extended illness. She was born in Elizabethton and was a daughter of the late Maynard and Hazel Philippi Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two nephews, Steve Peters and Mike Peters and a brother-in-law, Earnest Peters.

Ms. Ellis loved to travel and in her younger years she enjoyed square dancing and bowling. She loved her dog and cats, spending time with her family and participating in the activities and worship at church, Pleasant Beach Baptist Church, where she was a member.

Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Regina Isaacs and her husband, Phil, of Elizabethton; a son, Brian Ellis and his wife, Sherry, of Johnson City; three grandchildren, Miranda Isaacs, Chelsie Isaacs and Boone Ellis and his wife, Mattie; a great-grandchild, Lottie Ellis; a sister, Mary "Bootie" Peters, of Johnson City; and a niece, Melanie Peters, of Johnson City. ELIZABETHTON - Brenda Faye Williams, 67, of Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord Friday, May 03, 2019, at Hermitage Nursing Home.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Roy H. "Moose" and Carrie Mae Berry Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Williams and two brothers, Big Tommy Williams and Ray Williams and a sister-in-law: Kay Williams. Brenda was a graduate of Unaka High School she was a member of Borderview Christian Church where she sang in the choir for several years. She was a retired Daycare Teacher. Brenda was an avid UT Vol Fan.

Rosa Williams Stout, age 100, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, at the Hillview Health Center in Elizabethton, Tennessee. She was born in Carter County on August 22, 1922, to the late William M. Williams and Mattie Lyons Williams. Rosa was of the Baptist faith and loved going to church. She loved reading, especially her Bible.  She was a homemaker who loved cooking and gardening. Rosa was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Stout; three sons, Darrell Stout, McKinnley F. Stout, and Dayton Stout along with several brothers and sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Shelby Mottern and Charlotte Caudill, both of Elizabethton; one son, Ron Stout of Elizabethton; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Jasper Williams, age 91, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 25, 2019 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Jasper was born in Elizabethton to the late William and Mattie Lyons Williams.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances White Williams; a daughter, Debra Lancaster; three brothers, Roby Williams, Grady Williams and Albert Williams; and two sisters, Grace Arnold and Goldia Williams.

Jasper was both a United States Navy veteran, where he had served in World War II and a United States Air Force veteran, where he retired as a Technical Sergeant E-6. After retiring from the military he was employed for 19 years as the Elizabethton Finance Director, where he also retired. He was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon for over 38 years and also as a Sunday School teacher. Jasper enjoyed his church work, gardening, hunting and fishing and being outdoors.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 31 years, Marvella Williams, of the home; a son, Douglas Williams and wife Beth, of Elizabethton; a sister, Rosa Stout, also of Elizabethton; two grandsons, Jason Lancaster, of Boones Creek and Nathan Lancaster, of Murfreesboro, TN; three great grandsons, Noah Lancaster, Hayden Lancaster and Fletcher Lancaster, all of Murfreesboro; one stepson, Michael Johnson and wife Michelle, of Elizabethton; one step grandson, Randall Johnson, of Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

McArthur 'Mac' Williams, age 76, of Stout Branch Rd., Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at his home. Mac was born on March 25, 1943 in Elizabethton, TN (Carter County). He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ruth Davis Williams; step-father, John Griffith; brother, Tony Griffith, sisters-in-laws; Hope Payne and Helen Treadway; brothers-in-laws, John Madron and Toll Lewis; mother-in-law and father-in- law, Gail and Earl Madron.

Mac graduated from Hampton High School and East Tennessee State University. He served in the United States Army from July 1967 until August 1973 with the rank of Captain. He was retired from Northeast Correctional as a teacher. Mac also taught in the Carter County and Johnson County school systems. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Mac is survived by his wife of 48 years (September 18, 1970) Hallie Madron Williams; sister, Peggy Ann Elliott of Austin, TX; sister-in-law, Hilda Lewis; many nieces and nephews.

Graveside Service and Burial will be conducted on Wednesday May 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Pastor Mike McNutt officiating. GREENEVILLE — Julia "June" Dugger, 85, went on to be with her Lord Jesus on Saturday, July 23, 2016, in Greeneville, Tennessee after an extended illness.

She was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Elijah & Blonnie Buckles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Mack and Jim Buckles; her sister, Ethel Smith; and her daughter, Shirley Dugger Williams.

She was a member of the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church. Surviving family members are her son, Stephen Dugger (Ginger); her grandchildren, Ashley Dugger Estep (Nick) and Blake Dugger (Brandi); her five great grandchildren, Gracie Estep, Levi and Cooper Estep, Jackson Nidiffer, Ava Dugger; and several nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with her home-going service beginning at 7 p.m.

The family would like to thank Takoma Regional Hospital and the Life Care Center of Greeneville, Amedisys Hospice, her Sunday School Class at Caldwell Springs and several friends and family members who helped her through her last days.

Ronnie Buckles, 72, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Floyd and Hazel Guinn Buckles.
Ronnie was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. He was an electrician and former member of the Tennessee National Guard. He was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time outdoors on his land, studying local history and telling jokes and playing pranks on his family.
Survivors include his children, Donna Mosley and husband Robert and Joey Buckles; grandchildren, Taylor Spurling, Emma Mosley, Aaron Buckles, Justin Buckles and Alex Buckles; his siblings, Kathy Poole and Barbara Fair; and his nieces, Ashley Walsh and Tabitha Fair.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, January 16, at Memorial Funeral Chapel. The graveside service will be conducted at noon Friday, January 17, in the Cochran Cemetery (Fairview Community) with the Rev. Donald Page officiating. Interment will follow the service. James Buckles, age 62, of Elizabethton passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019. He was the son of the late Horace and Roxie Wilson Buckles. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two step-grandchildren Willow Eastridge & Parker Eastridge. James retired from Snap-On Tools after 37 years of employment. He enjoyed racing with his sons (Buckles Drag Racing), spending time with his children and grandchildren, four wheeling, anything to do with Fords, attending swap meets and listening to classic rock.

She enjoyed going to the senior citizens center and made many friends there. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2006, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Jonas Revis, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rev. Chris and Tonia Hughes. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the service in the chapel. It was Mrs. Hardin's wishes to be returned to her home at 150 Nave Hollow Loop until time for the graveside service. Her children have honored her wishes. Friends may also call at the homes of Fay, Erma or John at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 17, at Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from Mrs. Hardin's grandsons. Minister, pallbearers and friends are requested to meet at the residence, 150 Nave Hollow Loop, at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alabama Kiwanis Foundation, NW Alabama Home Builders Association, Webb Children's Trust Fund, P.O. ELIZABETHTON — Dimple M. Williams, 93, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012, in the Pine Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Daisy Williams Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Vivian Buracker; two sons, Terry Williams and Jewell "Pete" Williams; three sisters, Ruby Hardin, Opal Gouge and June Allen; two brothers, Harold Grindstaff and Wesley Grindstaff; ex-husband, Dewey Williams.

Mrs. Williams was a retired seamstress and was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, working in her flowers and sewing.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Cole and husband, Karl, Elkridge, MD; a son, Harold Williams and wife, Linda, Mooresboro, NC; three brothers, A.B. Grindstaff, David Grindstaff and Elic Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton; two sisters, Josie Shook, whom she considered her "most special sister" for her whole life and husband, Jack, Elizabethton, and Dorothy Deloach, Elizabethton; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Survivors also include, Claudia Proctor and Roy Wayne Shipley, both of whom Mrs. Williams raised as her own.

The funeral service for Mrs. Williams will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, April 23, 2012, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Chaplain Bryan Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:00-2:00 Monday prior to the service.

Interment will follow the funeral service at Wilson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected by Josie and Jack Shook. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Williams, Leonard Lewis and Mike Williams.
