    James Brewer, age 76, Butler, Route 1, died at his home Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. after a long illness. He was a native of Johnson County, son of the late Alex and Susan Fritts Brewer. He was a retired merchant and farmer.
    Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Myrele[sic] L. Brewer, Butler; two sons, Claude Brewer and Bill Brewer, both Butler; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Grindstaff, Butler; one brother, John Brewer of Butler; five sisters, Mollie Brewer, Corsie Brewer, Mrs. C.B. Laws and Mrs. Minnie Potter all of Butler and Mrs. Edna Church of Neva; four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were conducted from Rock Springs Baptist Church Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Clyde Campbell and Rev. Roby Stout officiating. Burial was in Slemp Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Edd Lunceford, Robert Cable, Guy Campbell, Edd Fritts, Robert Fritts and Luke Morefield. Flowerbearers[sic] were ladies of the church and neighbors.

    Ruby Grindstaff , age 92, of 919 Medical Park Drive, formerly from Butler, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012, after an extended illness. She was born December 4, 1919, to the late James and Myrtle Potter Brewer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dana Grindstaff and by two brothers, Claude and Bill Brewer. Ruby was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed farming, raising cattle, and gardening.
    Survivors include nieces and nephews, Claude Brewer Jr., Geraldine Gentry, and James Brewer all of Butler, TN, Leola Watson of Carryville, TN; and one sister-in-law, Hartensia Brewer of Butler, also special friend, Richard Hagler of Mountain City.
    Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Grindstaff were conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 8, 2012, from the Eastside Memory Chapel of the Hux Lipford Funeral Home, with Reverend Leonard Fletcher officiating. Graveside service and burial followed in the Sunset Memorial Park. Family received friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the funeral service. Pallbearers were Benny Stout, Dean Campbell, Tommy Poore, Richard Hagler, Blaine Branch, Charlie Mann, and Coty Brewer. At other times the family will receive friends at 725 Little Dry Run Rd. in Butler.

    Claude Brewer, age 86, of Butler, passed away on Saturday morning, November 27, 2010 at the Mountain City Care Center.

    Claude was born September 11, 1924 in Johnson County to the late James and Myrtle Potter Brewer. He enjoyed hunting and farming. Claude was of the Baptist Faith.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Brewer.

    Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Hartensia DeLoach Brewer; daughters, Rosa Leola Watson of Caryville, TN and Geraldine Gentry and husband Jim of Butler; sons, James Brewer and wife Janie and Claude Brewer, Jr. and wife Sharon, both of Butler; sister, Ruby Grindstaff of Mountain City; grandchildren, Matthew Watson, Coty Brewer, Dalton Brewer, Tina Brewer, Earl Brewer, Robert Brewer, Christian Furchess, Cloy Furchess, Jonathan Furchess, Elizabeth Furchess, Judy Stout, Vance Gentry, Sharon Gentry and Loretta Gentry; several great grandchildren; and special friends, Johnny Tackett and Charlie Mann.

    The family will receive friends at the home, 725 Little Dry Run Road, Butler, TN 37640.

    It was Claude's wish to be cremated. There will be no public viewing or service at the funeral home. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

    James Brewer, Jr., eight-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James Brewer, Butler, Tenn., died at a local hospital Sunday night at 10 o'clock, after a prolonged illness.
    Funeral services will be conducted from the residence this afternoon at 2 o'clock.
    Arrangements will be in charge of the Hathaway Funeral Home.

    ELIZABETHTON - Irene Andrews of Elizabethton, TN entered her heavenly home on Wednesday evening, June 8, 2022. She passed away peacefully at the Hermitage Healthcare Facility where she had resided for the last few years. She was born on March 9, 1924, to Frank and Minnie Potter of Butler, TN. She married James "Hugh" Andrews in 1949 who was the love of her life and preceded her in death in 1986. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Bonnie Ward, Verdie Stanton, Maude Ward, Don Potter, JC Potter, and Kate Stanton.

    She is survived by a brother, Boyd Potter of Delaware, her children, Naomi Henderson of Orlando, Florida, Leona Woodring, (Butch) of Chuckey, TN, Lois Carty and Alan Andrews of Elizabethton, TN, her beloved grandchildren, Thomas Geisler, Bo and Kyndall Henderson, Jeff Guinn, Justin Adams, Megan Renfro, and Kristina, Sadie and Ben Andrews. She had four great grandchildren, Nicholas and Eliana Guinn and Bracken and Addison Renfro. Her grandchildren were the absolute joy of her life and they all loved spending time with her. She is also survived by her dear friend, Billie Powell of Elizabethton.

    Irene was a member of East Side Baptist Church where she especially loved and enjoyed her Sunday School Class. She was a friend to everyone, and she never met a stranger. She had a way of always making everyone feel extra special. Irene loved the outdoors which was obvious by her beautiful flowers and immaculate yard which she loved to work in.

    She will be laid to rest at Dyson Grove Cemetery where a memorial service will be held at a later date.

    Nellie Kate Potter Stanton, age 89, of Rogersville, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at her residence. Nellie was born on July 21, 1931 in Mountain City, Tennessee to the late Enoch Franklin “Frank” Potter and Minnie Brewer Potter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Robert J. Stanton on March 10, 2013; her sisters, Bonnie (Robert) Ward, Verdie (Carl) Stanton and Maude (Leon) Ward; her brothers, Don (Pearl) Potter and J.C. Potter; her sister-in-law, Edna Potter; and a brother-in-law, James Andrews.

    Nellie accepted Christ as her Saviour at 12 years of age at Dyson Grove Baptist Church in Butler, Tennessee. After her marriage to Robert J. Stanton, she joined West View Baptist Church in Rogersville, Tennessee, which was her loving church family. Nellie had worked as a manager of a laundromat and will be very missed by all that knew her.

    Those left to cherish Nellie’s many wonderful memories include two sons, Dr. Tom Stanton and his wife, Pat, Morristown; Tim Stanton and his wife Kim, Raleigh, NC; a sister, Irene Andrews, of Elizabethton; a brother, John B. Potter, of Wilmington, NC; granddaughters: Tenecia, Beth, Katy and Audrey; grandsons, Thomas Odom, Patrick (Katie), Philip (Jessica) and Nathan; great granddaughters: Olivia, Sophia, Mia and Norah; and great grandsons, Cooper, Colby and Noah; and her sister-in-law, Rosie Potter. Also, she leaves many nieces and nephews. Nellie loved every member of her family greatly.

    A graveside service to celebrate the life of Nellie Kate Potter Stanton was conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 in the Dyson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with her sons providing the eulogy.

    Nellie married Robert J. Stanton about 1949. Robert (son of Thomas Arthur Stanton and Fannie B.     It is with great sadness that the family of James “Rebel Jim” Brewer announces his passing on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at his residence at age 57. He was born September 3, 1964 to the late Claude and Hartensia Brewer. He loved hunting and fishing and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
    Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife Janie Brewer of the home; one daughter Jo Dawn Furchess; three sons: Charlie Mann, Dalton Brewer and Cody Brewer; two sisters: Leola Watson and Geraldine Gentry; one brother Junior Brewer; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Special friends “brother” and best friend Doug Arney, Johnny Tackett, Matthew Watson, Tommy Poore, Brad Dugger and special niece Judy Gentry Stout also survive.
    A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2022 in Hux & Lipford Funeral Home chapel with Shannon Courtner and Roy Wilson officiating. Eulogy will be given by Brad Dugger.

In addition to her parents Sandra was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Ann Reece.

    She enjoyed crafts, sewing, bird watching, yard sales and especially gardening.

    Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 51 years, James Earl Patrick, sons, Bill Patrick and Scott Patrick and wife Wendy, grandchildren, Donovan, Dalton, Alex and Isaac Patrick, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

    Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery (located on Little Laurel Road, Creston, NC) with Pastor Wade Huntsinger to officiate. Pallbearers will be Donovan Patrick, Dalton Patrick, Alex Patrick, Isaac Patrick, Chris Williams and Rick Williams.
