Mr. Hardin was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Alvin
P. and Bessie Bowers Hardin. He was also preceded in death by three brothers,
Alfred Johnny Hardin, Greene E. Hardin and Leonard Hardin, and a sister,
Naomi Hardin.
Mr. Hardin was the Oldest Member of Blue Springs Christian Church. He
retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 32 years of service.
He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM and was a 32nd Degree
Mason for 52 years.
Survivors include his wife, Vera Bowers Hardin, of the home; a son and
daughter-in-law, Grant W. and Phyllis Hardin, Hampton; a grandson and
granddaughter-in-law, Jamey and Renee Hardin, Elizabethton; two
granddaughters, Cindy Lenore Canter and Angela Hardin Shingleton, both of
Elizabethton; a step-grandson, Gregory Lynn McKinney, Hampton; a step-
granddaughter, Suzanne McKinney, Kingsport; three great-grandsons, Zachary
Hardin, Elijah Shingleton and Dustin Canter, all of Elizabethton; a great-
granddaughter, Keaton Shingleton, Elizabethton; a step-great-granddaughter,
Madison Jane McKinney, Kingsport; a sister, Myrtle Buckles, Elizabethton;
two brothers and a sister-in-law, Garnie and Beulah Hardin, Hampton, and

Bill Nave Loop, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, May 16, 2002, will
be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 19, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick

Garnie M. Hardin, 97, Elizabethton passed away Monday November 15, 2010 in the Pine Ridge Care Center.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Alvin and Bessie Bowers Hardin. He was a retired employee of the Bemberg Corporation. Mr. Hardin was a paper carrier for the Johnson City Press for 17 years. He loved to work on lawn mowers , working in his garden and antique cars. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Beulah Bowers Hardin, July 8, 2006 and three brothers: Eston, Greene and Alfred Hardin. He was a member of the Willow Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include Two Sons: Grady M. Hardin and wife Phyllis, Bean Station, Tenn., and Harley J. Hardin, Newton, North Carolina. Two Daughters: Mary Katherine Mueller and husband Richard, Aiken, South Carolina and Nora J. Fritts and husband Mitchell, Elizabethton. 6 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren. Grant C. Hardin, 99, of Elizabethton, formerly of 827 Blue Springs Road, Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center. Grant was born on July 7, 1917 and was a son of the late Alvin P. Hardin and Bessie C. Bowers Hardin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Pauline Oliver Hardin, on December 19, 2001, and four brothers, Garnie Hardin, Eston Hardin, Alf Hardin and Greene Hardin.
Grant was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. He served his country in Germany for three years. When he returned home he went to work at the Bemberg Corporation, which ironically was a German Rayon Manufacturer and one of the largest employers ever in Carter County. He retired from Bemberg as a machine operator. One of his hobbies was Bingo, which he attended every week in his sport coat and dress hat. He was also a member of the Masons and the Shriners. He was a very humble man who didn't like to say a lot about himself, but once stated "although I was drafted into the Army, I served my country with pride." He was the oldest member of Blue Springs Christian Church.
Those left to cherish his memory include one sister, Myrtle Buckles, of Elizabethton, and many nieces and nephews.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Grant C. Hardin will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, September 16, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Andrew Church providing a eulogy and Mr. Richard Thomason providing a prayer. Music will be under the direction of Donna Ellis. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence of his brother-in-law, Gayle Oliver, at other times. Mr. Oliver was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Lorina Myers Oliver. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rita Buckles Oliver, an infant son, Joseph Allen Oliver, a sister, Clara Bowers, and three brothers, Fornie Oliver, Jessie Oliver and Cecil Oliver.
Mr. Oliver was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church and a retired employee of Mapes Piano String Company.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Juanita Oliver, Elizabethton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Annie and Preston Williams, Elizabethton, and Pearl Grindstaff, Valdese, N.C.; and a special friend, Pansy Hart, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Roger Rickey Markland of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with his heavenly Father on September 14, 2022.
Roger had a love for life and the outdoors. He never met a stranger; but most of all, he loved the Lord. I know Heaven has gained an angel. Though with tears in my eyes, I let you go because the I know the loss is mine, but Heaven’s gain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lundy and Evadean Dugger Markland; two sisters, Gearlean Campbell and Roma Markland; and one brother, Norman Markland.
Family left to cherish his memory are his sister, Sharon Estep; two nephews, Denny Guy and Trevor Guy; and special cousins, Tony, Timmy and Jeff Edwards and Pat Ruble.

CONOVER, N.C. — Harley J. Hardin, 80, of Conover, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at his home. Harley was born October 11, 1938 in Carter County, Tenn., to the late Garnie and Beulah Bowers Hardin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Grady Hardin.
He is survived by a daughter, Karen Hardin of Conover; two sisters, Mary Mueller and husband Richard of Aiken, S.C., and Nora Fritts of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Erma Myers - JOHNSON CITY
Erma Jean Hardin Myers, age 69, Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 29, 2008, from Christian Care Center of Johnson City following a brief illness.

She was a Carter County native and a daughter of the late Cecil J. and Ruby Grindstaff Hardin. Mrs. Myers was a graduate of Unaka High School class of 1955 and always enjoyed working on the class reunion committee.

Professionally, she was the financial secretary of First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, for thirty-two years. She truly learned to love God's Presbyterian children and enjoyed her years there.

Mrs. Myers became a Christian at an early age, being led to the Lord by the late dear one, Gertrude Hale. She was, at one time, a member of Willow Springs and Caldwell Springs Baptist Churches on Stony Creek. There she was taught by scripture and example.

After her marriage to Dr. George G. Myers (former ETSU professor), in May of 1955, she joined the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church with him and began an active service of Teaching and working in many areas of the Church's program. For twenty-five years, she worked tirelessly at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in West Carter County.

For the last thirteen years, Mrs. Myers had been a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton, where she continued to be an innovative teacher, employing flip charts and many objects to illustrate a Sunday School lesson. She became known as the "Bag Lady" because there was always an object in her bag to make a point in a lesson.

Mrs. Myers would like to be remembered as a child of God, a servant and teacher in His church, a caring friend, mother and wife.

Mrs. Myers is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Dr. George G. Myers, of the home; and she was the proud mother of three sons and daughters-in-law: Glenn Stanley and Vicki Myers, Bristol, TN, Lynn Cecil and Rita Myers, Dr. James and Donna Myers, all of Johnson City. Mrs. Myers' other surviving family members are one grandson: Christopher George Myers, Johnson City; one sister and brother-in-law; Lois Fay (Hopson) Treadway and Bob Treadway; one brother and sister-in-law: John H. and Nyoka Hardin, Elizabethton; her nieces and nephews: David Keith and Connie Jo Hopson, Judy Hopson, John Claude and Jennifer Hardin, Jeremy Hardin, Richard and Vikki Thomas and Heather Richardson. In addition, her special friends Nita DeSalme, Wanda Bowers and a number of great-nieces, great-nephews and special cousins also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Myers will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in the First Baptist Church, Elizabethton, with Dr. Angus R. Shaw and Dr. Jim Royston officiating. Music will be under the direction of Julie Cardwell and Tim Smith. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church prior to the service.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, in the Ensor Cemetery. Everyone is welcome to meet the family at 10 a.m. Friday at Tetrick Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery. John H. Hardin, 80, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 9, 2022, from Holston Valley Medical Center. John was born in Carter County to the late Cecil H. Hardin and Ruby A. Grindstaff Hardin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Erma J. Myers and Lois Treadway.
John H. Hardin was a family man who always placed God and his family first. He was involved in many things, but he always found the time for God and family. He was a member of Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for close to 30 years and also served as a trustee.
John retired from Unaka High School following 33 years teaching agriculture and where he had the only butchering class in Tennessee. He also taught agriculture at Elizabethton High School for four years. His knowledge of agriculture led him to be President of the TN National Vocational Agricultural Association as well as Chairman of the Soil Conservation Service of Elizabethton for many years. John has always loved the land and had a genuine dedication to farming. He was raised in Carter County and farmed here his entire life. His father and grandfather were farmers before him. When he was six years old, his father gave him a calf and told him that he was responsible for it. All through high school, even though he played football, he still had to take care of the dairy cows. While he was in college, he got up each morning at 4:30 a.m. to milk 48 cows before going to school. John has shared his love of the land by teaching his children to love the land that God gave them.
John H. Hardin is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Nyoka Hardin; his sons, John Claude Hardin (Jennifer) of Elizabethton and Jeremy L. Hardin (Megan) of Elizabethton; his daughters, Vikki Thomas (Richard) of Elizabethton and Heather Leonard (Dennis) of Bristol, Va.; his grandchildren, Chandler Thomas, Kyndal Thomas, Mason Richardson, Ava Leonard, Hannah Taylor, John Hardin and Gracie Hardin; and his sister-in-law, Jonnie Wilson of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of John H. Hardin will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Linda Sue Kyte, age 75, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 8, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Linda was born in Elizabethton to the late Carl Lester Hardin, Sr. and Nora Beatrice Wilson Hardin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Richard Kyte, Sr.

Linda was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She has worked as a dietician. She attended Sims Hill Christian Church. Linda loved to be outside working in her garden and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to travel, camp, and her beloved dogs, Bandit, Fifi and Zach. She simply enjoyed life!

Goldy Mae Luckett, 76, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022, at her home. Goldy was born on December 6, 1945 to the late Preston and Anna Mae Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ivan Williams and Jean Oliver.
Goldy was a very caring and giving person who always had a smile on her face. She was a hard worker and loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandkids. She faithfully attended Mountain City Baptist Church until her illness prevented her from doing so.

The family received friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Monday, January 24, at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service followed at 3 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Jones officiating. The graveside service and interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park. Active pallbearers were Corey Summerow, Trevor Luckett, Hayden Luckett, Joseph Lawson, Skylar Lawson and Mason Luckett. Honorary pallbearer was Willie Neely.

Ivan Lee Williams, age 71, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on March 20, 1948 to the late Preston and Anna Mae Oliver Williams. In addition to his parents, Ivan was preceded in death by his brother, Doris Oliver.

Ivan was a great man and lived a simple life. He was a very gifted and talented carpenter. He was always willing to help others and was a very giving man. Ivan was very kind and always happy. Ivan also enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. He loved his pets, the parakeet, Polly and his Ducky. He was of the Christian faith.

Those left to cherish his memories include his sisters, Cassie Church, Goldie Luckett and Donna Roberts; brothers, Mack Williams, Eddie Williams and Jewel Williams; special nephews, Brandon Williams and Dillon Williams; very special great nephew, Preston Williams and several loved nieces and nephews, and special friends and neighbors.

The graveside service was held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the Family Cemetery, Jimmy Hollow Road, Butler, TN; with Pastor Harold Morefield officiating. Pallbearers will be Eddie Williams, Mack Williams, Chris Blevins, Brandon Williams, Justin Howes and Dillon Williams.

Eric Scott Oliver, 50, Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 9, 2021. He was born April 23, 1971 in Johnson City.
Scott was a graduate of Hampton High School. He was self-employed in the lawn business. Prior to that he was employed at Douglas Dynamic for 20 years. He loved fishing, hiking, loved being with friends and he loved his children with all his heart. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Scott was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carl and Nora Hardin, and his paternal grandparents, Stacey and Helen Oliver.
Survivors include his children, Sydney Oliver and Nicholas Oliver; his father, Stacey Oliver Sr. and his wife Ternia, Maiden, N.C.; his mother, Sherry Fortner and husband Kenneth, Elizabethton; a sister, Carla Schroeder and husband Tony, Maiden, N.C.; a brother, Stacey “Jimmy” Oliver, Elizabethton; a special aunt, Charlotte Williams; a special uncle, Carl Hardin Jr.; one niece, Alanna Sigmon; one nephew, Brandon Arthur; a great-niece, Baby Holland; many cousins and many friends he loved very much including his best friend, Dale Campbell, and all his friends at Douglas Dynamic.
The graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 14, in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery with Dr. Alan King officiating. Music will be provided by Amy Banner. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 3:20 p.m. Saturday, will be Dale Campbell, Keith Foster, Hal Nave, Terry Banner, Brian Kyte and Leslie Grindstaff. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Nave and Chris Roberson.
