Mrs. Mary Williams, age 70, died Wednesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Bowers on the Siam pike.

Mrs. Williams was a life-long member of the First Baptist church in this city, serving faithfully until her death.

Funeral services for Henry Deloach, aged 62, were held from the home of his brother, David Deloach, on the Siam road Sunday morning at 10 a.m. He died early Saturday morning after a short illness.
He is survived by four children, two sisters, and one brother.
The Rev. Hampton C. Hopkins of The East Side Baptist Church was the officiating minister.

ALICE GARRISON
Mrs. Alice Garrison, 84, died at the home of her granddaughter Mrs. Fred Donnelly of Elizabethton, Route 1, yesterday at 2:45 p.m. after a long illness. Mrs. Garrison was the widow of the late John Garrison. She was a member of the Valley Forge Christ Church, and had been a member for the past 58 years. She was one of the oldest members of the community.
Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. W. R. Meredith, Mrs. C. E. Treadway, Mrs. S. S. Williams, Mrs. D. B. Vanhuss; two sons, Carl and Kell Garrison, all of Elizabethton, Route 1; four brothers, Blaine and W. A. Chambers of G St. extension, D. M. Chambers, of Johnson City; thirty five grandchildren; thirty seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Valley Forge Christian Church Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. with the Rev. J. J. Musick pastor of the church in charge, assisted by Rev. E. A. Hoffman and Rev. Fred Smith. Burial will be made in the Smith Cemetery.
Music will be furnished by the church choir.

MRS. CHAMBERS[sic] DIES AT HOME
Mrs. Sallie Jane Chambers Meredith, 62, of Gap Creek, died at her home last night at 6:25, following an illness of pneumonia.
The deceased was a native of Carter county, being the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. David T. Chambers. She was born on Feb. 23, 1874. On Feb. 4, 1891, she was married to J. A. Meredith. To this union were born ten children all of whom are living, including nine sons, Willie, Claude, Roy, Lawrence, Ed, Harry, and Dave Meredith, Elizabethton; Joe Meredith, Johnson City; the Rev. John Meredith, Ridgetown, Canada; one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Treadway, Elizabethton. She is survived also by 29 grandchildren, four brothers, William Chambers, Wid Chambers, D. M. Chambers and Blaine Chambers; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Garrison and Mrs. R. B. Hathaway.
Mrs. Meredith was one of the most beloved women in her community. She united with the Christian church at Valley Forge in 1891 and remained true to her faith, always letting the Master have his way and she humbly following. She loved her friends and neighbors and it was a great pleasure to acquire new friends, who immediately became attached to her by her kindly manner.
Funeral services will be conducted from the home on Gap Creek Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, the Rev. J. N. Shepherd, of Milligan, and the Rev. A. Preston Grey of Kingsport, officiating. Interment will be made in the Meredith Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will include nephews and are Hugh Chambers, Carroll Hathaway, Ernie Meredith, Carl Harrison, Bryan Meredith and Paul Headrick.

Mrs. Hathaway was a member of the Methodist Church at Valley Forge. She was the daughter of the late David T. and Nancy Grindstaff Chambers. Her son, Carroll Hathaway, preceded her in death on July 21, 1943.
Survivors are her widower; three daughters, Mrs. Anna Campbell of Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Mattie Shaw of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Jewette Riddle of Elizabethton; five sons, Mack, Hobert, Abraham, Edgar and Cale of Elizabethton; one sister, Mrs. Alice Garrison of Elizabethton; four brothers, D. M. Chambers of Johnson City, Win A., William and Blaine Chambers of Elizabethton; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body will be returned home Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs. R. B. Hathaway, 71, died at her home in Valley Forge Monday evening at 11:00 o'clock after a short illness.
Mrs. Hathaway was a member of the Methodist Church at Valley Forge. She was the daughter of the late David T. and Nancy Grindstaff Chambers. Mrs. Hathaway was married to Butler Hathaway September 3, 1893. Her son, Carroll preceded her in death July 25, 1943.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 3:30 from the Methodist Church at Valley Forge with the Rev. Raymond Geisler in charge assisted by the Rev. Stockton and the Rev. Farrell Sparks.
Burial will be made in Chambers Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be the following nephews of the deceased: Hugh Jenkins, Roy Meredith, Carl Garrison, Hugh Chambers, Ray Chambers, D. M. Chambers Jr., Charlie Suess, Monroe Stevens.
Flower bearers will be the nieces and Ladies Sunday School Class of the Valley Forge Methodist Church and are requested to be at the church at 3:00.

KINGSPORT - Mamie Giles, age 98, of Kingsport, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, January 18, 2016, at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late David and Sarah Elizabeth Price Grindstaff. Mrs. Giles was a charter member of Clifton View Baptist Church, but had been attending Johnson City Freewill Baptist Church. She retired from Magnavox. Mrs. Giles was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Aunt.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Giles was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Giles, July 1991; eight siblings, Louise Head, Charles Grindstaff, Nola Grindstaff, Susan Britt, Ray Grindstaff, Dewey Grindstaff, Frank Grindstaff, and Minnie G. Whitson.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois Rogers, Surgoinsville, TN, Debbie Fagan, Kingsport, Robyn Hawkins, Johnson City; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. Several special nieces and nephews also survive.

The family visitation for Mrs. Giles will be conducted from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home with the funeral service following in the East Chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Kenneth Kyker officiating and the eulogy presented by great granddaughter Mary Ann Riddle.

The graveside service and internment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Christopher Lane, Marty Lane, Marcus Riddle, Bill Riddle, Lee Carter, Dana Rogers, III, and Jeffrey Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Gabe Matthew Millard, Mike Fletcher, and Gary Gilley.

Funeral services for Private First Class William T. (Buck) DeLoach, 26, whose body will arrive in Johnson City Saturday at 9:52 a.m., will be conducted at the East Side Baptist Church Sunday at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Willard Kelly and the Rev. Robert Pettitt officiating. Burial will be in the DeLoach Cemetery.

The Watauga Post Number 49, Carter County American Legion will conduct military services at the cemetery.
Private DeLoach entered service August 17, 1943 and received his base training at Camp Van Doran, Miss. And Camp Kilmore, New Jersey. He was shipped overseas June 20, 1944 and served with Company “C” of the 357th Infantry. He landed in New Burnsville, France in July 1944 and was killed in action October 3, 1944 and was buried in United States Military Cemetery in Andelly, France. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. Before entering service he was employed by the Spinning department of the American Bemberg Corporation.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Inez Winders DeLoach of 705 East Maple Street, Johnson City; one son, Gene A. DeLoach of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Grindstaff of Route 1, and Mrs. Lee Bird Mettler of Elizabethton and two brothers, Andy DeLoach of Route 5, and Alford DeLoach of Route 1, Elizabethton.
The body will be taken to the home on 705 East Maple Street in Johnson City Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Tetrick Funeral Home.

William Cling Garrison, aged 50, died at his home in the Lilly Addition Wednesday night at 6 o'clock, after a prolonged illness. He was a member of the Christian Church at Valley Forge for 40 years, during which time he has been a faithful worker.

Mr. Kyle Chambers, 94, Pine Hill Road, Elizabethton died Monday, September 4, 2006 in Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late William H. and Florene Vanhuss Chambers. Mr. Chambers was a homebuilder and had built over two hundred homes in the Elizabethton area. He also worked as an appraiser for Elizabethton Federal Bank where he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He was very active in the community. Mr. Chambers was a member of First Baptist Church Elizabethton where he had served as Treasurer, Trustee and Deacon. He was a great example of a Christian gentleman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a sixty year member of the American Legion Post #49, Elizabethton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Mary S. Chambers of the home and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Mr. Kyle Chambers will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 6, 2006 in First Baptist Church Elizabethton with Rev. Brent Seals and Rev. Bob Polk officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday following the funeral service at the church or at the residence, 605 Pine Hill Road, Elizabethton at other times. Death Takes Squire Carroll Hathaway
Carroll E. Hathaway, age 33, died in a Johnson City hospital Sunday morning at 4 o'clock after an illness of five months. Mr. Hathaway was a native of Carter county, son of Butler and Minerva Chambers Hathaway, prominent family of Carter county.
He was a member of the Carter County Court, magistrate of the 14th district. For a number of years he was an automobile salesman for the Watauga Chevrolet Company of this city. He was employed in the pay roll department of the North American Rayon Corporation and was a member of Dashiel Lodge, No. 238, Elizabethton, R. D. Keller Chapter No. 214 Modern Woodman Local and of the Valley Forge Methodist church.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Marie Morrell Hathaway; one son, Billy Carroll; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Hathaway; 3 sisters, Miss Juette Hathaway, Mrs. C. C. Campbell of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. F. R. Shaw, Charlestown, Ind.; five brothers, Pvt. Cale Hathaway, U. S. Army; Abe, Mac, Edgar and Hobart of Elizabethton, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at the Valley Forge Methodist church with the Rev. K. W. Baldwin officiating, assisted by Rev. Harry Leonard, and Rev. Laney. Burial will be made in Chambers cemetery. Masons will have charge at the grave.
Active pallbearers will be the nurses of the St. Elizabeth Hospital and member of the Ladies Bible Class, Methodist church at Valley Forge.

Funeral services for Corintha Ellen Chambers, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Chambers of near Valley Forge, who died at a local hospital yesterday morning at 3:30 o'clock of complications, are scheduled to be held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the Valley Forge Christian Church. The Rev. John Matthews will be in charge. Interment will be in the Chamber's Cemetery.
The deceased is survived by: the parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Chambers; three brothers, Ray Chambers, J. N. Chambers and Howard Dugger; five sisters, Mrs. Laura Suess, Mrs. Viola Stevens and Lillie, Ethel and Virginia Chambers and several uncles, aunts and nieces.

Mrs. Ethel Chambers Johnson, 84, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at her residence.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Winfield A. and Delia Arnett Chambers. Ethel was a graduate of Elizabethton High School, where she played on the girls' basketball team. She retired from Beaunit Fibers.

She was a member of the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a member of the ladies Sunday School Class and the Adult Choir.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Montie S. Johnson Sr., February 1990; four sisters: Cornthia Chambers, Laura Suess, Viola Stevens and Lillie Johnson; and three brothers: Howard Dugger, Ray Chambers and J.N. Chambers.

Survivors include a son & daughter-in-law: Shannon & Pam Johnson, Elizabethton; A daughter and fiancé, Sharon Culler and Tim Timbs, Elizabethton; Five Grandchildren: Curtis and his wife, Hillary Johnson, and Christie Johnson, all of Denver, Colorado, Nicholas, Kala and Kelli Culler, Elizabethton; Two Great Grandchildren: Connor Johnson and Reece Culler and Mother, Amy Peters; One Sister: June Ellis Telleen, Elizabethton; One Sister-in-Law: Betty Lou Chambers, Elizabethton; And one very special friend and neighbor, Frankie Woodby.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Johnson Family Cemetery, Mill Pond Road. Music will be provided by the Praise Choir, Ben Johnson and Pat Ray.

Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 6:55 p.m. Thursday and also at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Friday, will be: Carl Roberson, Joel Elijah, Larry McKinney, Sam Harrison, Sam Ellis, Bobbie Collins and Bobby McGee. Mrs. Jean Chambers Williams, Johnson City, died Monday, September 6, 2004, in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a lengthy illness. A native of Carter County, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late D.M. Chambers Sr. and Martha Ellis Chambers. Mrs. Williams was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Susanna Wesley Sunday School Class of the church. Mrs. Williams was a sustaining member of the Johnson City Junior League. Her husband, Bailey E. Williams Jr., preceded her in death in 1985. She was also preceded in death by one brother, D.M. Chambers Jr.; and three sisters, Myrtle C. Grindstaff, Vorita Chambers Isaacs and Florence “Jack” Chambers Smith. Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Moore and husband, Dwight, of Gray, and Lisa Pendleton and husband, Dave, of Kingsport; one sister, Katharyn C. Noble, of Johnson City; grandchildren, Mark E. Moore, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Lauren K. Pendleton, of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews. A native of Carter County, TN, she was a daughter of the late D.M. Chambers Sr. and Martha Evelyn Ellis Chambers. Mrs. Noble was member of East Unaka Christian Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, A.P Noble, in 1975; four sisters, Vorita Chambers Isaacs, Myrtle Chambers Grindstaff, Florence "Jack" Chambers Smith, Jean Chambers Williams; one brother, D.M. Chambers Jr.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Carol Braum and husband, Dick, Miami, FL; three step grandchildren; six nieces, Martha Nell Smith Estes, Joan Smith McQueen, Suzanne Williams Moore, Lisa Williams Pendleton and Mary Duke Chambers McCartt; one nephew, D.M.
