Teter Nave Colbaugh was the son of Henry Colbaugh and Levisa Nave. Teter married Lorina Jane Lewis, daughter of Lewis D. Lewis and Fanny D. Peters, on January 04, 1867 in Carter County, Tennessee. Teter served in the Union Army, during the Civil War, and was a P.O.W. Teter and Lorina had nine children: Daniel Nave, Celia, Levica, Fanney, Margaret, Eliza, Nancy Lee, Henry and Sarah Ellen Colbaugh. The family lived in Carter County, Stoney Creek, Peters Hollow, Tennessee.

D. N. Colbaugh, 70, Carter, died at a local hospital yesterday morning, with funeral services to be held at the home Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. The Reverend Arthur Roberts, Reverend Howell and Rev. Campbell will be in charge of the services.
The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Maggie Colbaugh, three daughters, Mrs. Ada Garland, Mrs. Bessie Taylor, Mrs. Myrtle Cole; two sons, T. N. Colbaugh, Carter, and George Colbaugh, Winchester, Idaho; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Henry Taylor, Stanley Sheffield, Herman Grindstaff, Nick Lewis, D. C. Patrick, John Lowe.
Flower bearers: Cora Peters, Mona Cole, Edna Grindstaff, Manna Cole, Ina Cole, Pearl Jennings, Hazel Cole, Ella Peters, Helen Cole, Zola Grindstaff.
Interment will be in the family cemetery.

She was a daughter of the late W.O. and Ada Colbaugh Garland. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jessee Willard Stout, and her second husband, Jesse L. Booker; a grandson, Waylon Stout; four sisters, Theo Patrick, Carmelita Peters, Sibilia Hardin, and Jewel Garland, and three brothers, Charles Garland, T.N. Garland and Odell Garland.

She was a retired Nurse's Aide.

Mrs. Booker attended the First Assembly of God.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2004 in Memorial Funeral Chapel.

Burial followed in Happy Valley Memorial Park.

ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Fred "Sonny" Shoun, 78, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, on Sunday, December 20, 2015, at Life Care Center of Gray, following an extended illness. He was born in Vivian, West Virginia, the son of the late Fred H. and Virginia Cannaday Shoun, and had lived most of his life in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Mr. Shoun was a 1955 graduate of Unaka High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of American Legion Post # 49. He also held an associate degree in accounting and was retired from Raytheon Corporation where he worked for thirty-eight years. He loved to play music, he was a Christian, an ordained deacon and was a Sunday School teacher. He was also a founding member of the Carter County Humane Society. Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife of fifty-five years, Barbara Moody Shoun, of the home; a daughter, Ann Byrd and her husband, J.D. Murfreesboro, TN; a son, Gene Shoun and his wife, Katherine, Charlotte, NC; four granddaughters, Whitney Byrd, Reno, NV; Jessica Byrd, Bowling Green, KY; Sgt. Amanda White, (USAF), Langley Air Force Base, VA; Katie Cingel, Danville, VA; a sister, Virginia Coleman, and her husband, Richard, Elizabethton; special friends, Brenda and Darrell Cannon, Elizabethton; Jason and Sara Cox, Elizabethton; his beloved dog, Lulu and Lulu's two doggie friends, Sidney and Sambo. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A service to honor the life of Mr. Shoun will be conducted on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with Rev. Ray Colbaugh officiating. Music will be under the direction of his son, Gene Shoun and his granddaughter, Katie Cingel. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the service, or at the home at other times.The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in the Garden of Freedom of Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Lynn Peters, Darrell Cannon, Jeff Oliver, Bill Crow, Donnie Dykes and Henry Shoun. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Huskins, Glen Shoun, Rich Coleman, Bob Cable, Leonard Febuary, Dr. Paul Knapp, Alan Self and Dr. Don Marshall. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

Jerry was the son of Fred Hatfield Shoun and Virginia Cannaday Shoun. Jerry died as the result of a motorcycle accident, near Redmond, Oregon. Jerry is survived by his wife, Connie and four children: Tammy, Keith, Dallas and Kathy Shoun.

ELIZABETHTON - James Hartsell Garland, age 76, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2018 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

James was born in Johnson City, Tennessee to the late TN and Hazel Waters Garland of Peters Hollow in the Stoney Creek Community of Elizabethton.

Hartsell was a Vietnam Combat veteran with the 1st Infantry Division of XM454 Nuclear Weapons Unit. He was a life member of VFW Post 2166 of Elizabethton. Hartsell was also a member of the Sons of the Revolution and 1st Families of the Civil War. He retired from the Eastman Chemical Company after 31 years of service.

Hartsell was of the Christian faith. He loved life and meeting people and knew people from around the world. His greatest joy was teaching kids Appalachian music. He was a musician and maker of gourd instruments.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 46 years, Lula Buckles Garland; and two sisters, Diana Gail Lowe and Teresa Taylor.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of James Hartsell Garland will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 25, 2018 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Gerald Holly and Mr. Wayne Mottern, ministers, officiating. Music will be under the direction of New Liberty Quartet. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 1:45 PM on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.
