Granny Carrie just recently celebrated her 93rd birthday. She was born January 11, 1917 to Nathaniel and Sallie Bowling Miller. She grew up on what is known as the Dave Miller Homestead at the Roan Mountain State Park where she enjoyed sharing her heritage and displaying her homemade quilts. Carrie proudly attended Backwoods School on Ripshin Mountain as a child. She was married to Jesse Jarrett for 59+ years and spent most of her life as a farmer and co-owner of Jarrett Orchards with her husband. She was also an ideal homemaker, an excellent cook, loved to surround her house with flowers, especially her dahlias, designed and created quilts and clothes. Most of all she enjoyed taking care of and spending time with her family and friends. Carrie was a proud Christian lady who loved to study the Bible and was a long-time member of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church, where she formerly served as children's teacher, deacons's wife and was always willing to lend a willing hand to those in need. Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Jess H. Jarrett; a daughter, Barbara Jarrett Heaton; a granddaughter, Becky Emmert Bailey; a nephew, Ray Street; and her siblings, David Miller, Frank Miller, Eula Miller, Stewart Miller, Lloyd Miller and Mary Sue Joslyn Pate. Carrie married Jesse H. Jarret about 1935 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Jesse (son of William M. 152. | David Lee Campbell ![]() Notes: David Lee Campbell, 62, Johnson City, died Monday, September 29, 2003, at his residence. He was a native of Washington County and had lived in Johnson City most of his life. David was a son of the late David Walter and Ida Bell Morton Campbell. He was an employee of the Washington County Sheriff's Department and was formerly employed by Morris-Baker Funeral Home for many years. David was a staff sergeant in the National Guard, having served for 12 1/2 years. He was a member of the Johnson City Free Will Baptist Church and had volunteered as a chaplain with the Johnson City Police Department David had been the director of youth baseball with the Johnson City Pony League and had been an umpire and referee with Johnson City Parks and Recreation for many years. He was a member of the Arcana Masonic Lodge #489, Limestone. Survivors include his wife, Joan Campbell; three sons, David Wayne Campbell and his wife, Paula, Johnson City, Michael Lee Campbell and his wife, Lori, Knoxville, and Pfc. Daniel Walter Campbell, stationed in Iraq; one daughter, Ida Sue Campbell, of the home; four sisters, Gladys Jones, Reatha Floyd, Bessie Hemphill and Thelma Sneyd, all of Johnson City; one grandson, Andrew John Campbell, Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Friday in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Rex Johnson and Rev. O. P. Stokes will officiate. Masonic rites will immediately follow the funeral service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday. The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Jonesborough. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. and go in procession to the cemetery. Members of the Washington County Sheriff's Department will serve as pallbearers. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the family. |

175. | Keith Campbell ![]() Notes: Keith Campbell, 69, of the Little Milligan Community of Butler, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 14, 2023, at his home. Keith was born in Elizabethton to the late Kyle and Ethel (Smith) Campbell. Keith had worked in the twisting unit at North American Rayon Corporation and had also worked at Timberland in Mountain City. Keith enjoyed anything outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also liked to cook and being with his dogs. Those left to remember and cherish Keith’s memory include his wife, Phyllis (Davenport) Campbell, of the home; his sons, Mason Campbell of Butler and Charles (Jennifer) Campbell of Kingsport; two grandchildren, Jude Campbell and Moriah Campbell; a brother, Steve Campbell of Elizabethton; two sisters, Nelda (Doug) Hatley of Butler and Patricia (Maurice) Widener of Mountain City; and a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Melissa Davenport. Several nieces and nephews also survive. No services are currently scheduled. |

She was a former Carter County School Bus Driver and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Chapter 17. Pennye was a member of Union Baptist Church. 181. | Georgia Maxine Hambrick ![]() Notes: Georgia Maxine (Hambrick) Shade, 75, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Hillview Health and Rehab Center of Elizabethton. Georgia was born in Elizabethton to the late William and Katherine (Vestal) Hambrick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Danny Shade; two sisters, Bernice Guinn and Patsy Street; one brother, Carl Hambrick; and an aunt, whom she took care of, Lucille Miller. Georgia worked as a housekeeper and always kept a clean and tidy home. She always took good care of herself and never went anywhere without her eyebrows drawn on. Georgia was very kind and giving and willing to help anyone that was in need. A very outgoing and talkative person, Georgia never met a stranger. She was a natural caretaker and had taken care of her aunt, Lucille, until her passing. Georgia was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church for 30 years and loved watching her soap operas, gardening, Christmas time, dancing and singing to music of all kinds. Her greatest joy, however, was her family and her grandchildren and the time she spent with them. Those left to cherish and remember Georgia include her sons, James W. Estep Jr. and wife Debbie and James Jefferson Estep, all of Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Chris Estep, Casey (Michael) Waters and daughter Eleanor Waters, and Cassidy Estep, all of Elizabethton; and three brothers, William “Bud” Hambrick and R.L. Hambrick (Teresa), all of Elizabethton, and Elwood Hambrick (Linda) of North Carolina. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday, February 19, in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton. A private graveside service will be conducted at a later time. |
