    ROAN MOUNTAIN – It is with extreme sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Sarah J. Whitehead, 88, Roan Mountain, who passed away Monday June 1, 2009, in the Roan Highland Nursing Center after an extended illness.

    She was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Jacob and Blanche Arnett Guinn.

    Sarah loved to work in her flowers and vegetable garden. She freely shared her bounty with friends and neighbors and family, whatever their needs may be. She was a member of the Little Mountain Baptist Church.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Whitehead; and a brother, George Guinn.

    Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Leon & Louise Whitehead, Roan Mountain; Two Daughters and One Son-In-Law: Della Whitehead, Elizabethton, Loretta and Jim McKinney, Roan Mountain; Grandsons: Michael McKinney and wife, Raquel, Piney Flats, Chris Whitehead and wife Shannon, Roan Mountain, and Mark McKinney and wife, April, of Knoxville; Two Great Grandsons; Hunter McKinney and Blake Whitehead; Three Great Granddaughters: Lilly Kate McKinney, Maggie & Rachael McKinney; Four Sisters: Myrtle Elliott, Roan Mountain, Mae Pate, Johnson City, Lea McKinney, Elk Park, North Carolina, and Dorothy Forbes, Elizabethton; Two Brothers: Tommy Guinn, Roan Mountain, and Otis Guinn, Elizabethton; Several Nieces & Nephews.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Pastor Delaney Berry officiating.

    Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Edna Woodby, Soloist. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Thursday will be: Jessie Dean McKinney, Jerry McKinney, Byran McKinney, Troy Whitehead, Tony Whitehead, Jeremey Cole, Ed Johnson, Cecil Largent, Raymond Hill, Tommy Roberson Jr., Jim Frye, Mike Blevins, Chris Whitehead, Mark McKinney and Michael McKinney. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Estel Whitehead, Byrl Whitehead, Bill Forbes, Bill Pate, J.D. McKinney, Bernie Hill, Bobby Hill, Jerry Cole and Charles Jones.

    Sarah married Charlie H. Whitehead about 1934. Charlie (son of Larkin L. Whitehead and Nannie Largent) was born about 1915 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 1 Dec 2008 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Happy Valley Memorial Park, , Carter County, Tennessee.     ROAN MOUNTAIN - Lester Leon Whitehead, 74, Roan Mountain, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charlie & Sarah Guinn Whitehead. He was a 1960 graduate of Cloudland High School. Leon was retired from the Carter County School System in the Maintenance Department. He attended the Strength & Everlasting Love Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years Louise Eggers Whitehead who died June 24, 2015 and by a sister: Loretta McKinney. Leon loved his mule.

    Survivors include a sister: Della Whitehead, Roan Mountain. His Nephew: Chris & Shannon Whitehead, Roan Mountain, Blake Whitehead, Roan Mountain, Michael & Raquel McKinney, Piney Flats, Mark & April McKinney, Knoxville. Several great nieces & nephews.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Baker and Pastor John McCoury officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Delaney Berry officiating. Active Pallbearers will be: Chris Whitehead, Frank Montgomery, Jack Montgomery, Danny Montgomery, Ronnie Townsend, Michael McKinney and Mark McKinney. Honorary pallbearers will be: Mike Blevins, Raymond, Hill, Bill Johnson, Jeff Hughes, Howard Presnell, Dave Maple and Stanley Largent.

    Lester married Nancy Louise Eggers about 1982 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Nancy (daughter of James Arlie Eggers and Living) was born on 27 Aug 1939 in , Watauga County, North Carolina, North Carolina; died on 24 Jun 2015 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Happy Valley Memorial Park, , Carter County, Tennessee.     Loretta Whitehead McKinney, 66, of Roan Mountain, passed away at the Johnson City Medical Center after a sudden illness on Monday, March 3, 2014.
    McKinney was a Carter County native and the daughter of the late Charlie and Sarah Guinn Whitehead. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roan Mountain. She loved the Lord and had many special friends who previously served with her at Little Mountain Baptist Church of Roan Mountain and at Witt Baptist Church in Morristown.
    Nothing was more important to Mrs. McKinney than her family. She exemplified what it means to be a "Proverbs 31 woman." After marrying her husband Jim and moving to Morristown, her primary job was to be a full-time Mom to her two sons. For many years, she kept busy shuttling the boys to ballgames, bike races, 4-H fairs, clogging shows, karate lessons, and anything else that interested her sons at the time, while always doing her best to make sure that Jim came home to a clean house at night with supper on the table.
    When she wasn't busy with the boys, she worked at a variety of jobs in manufacturing, marketing, and sales. She and Jim moved back to Roan Mountain upon their retirement. She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and especially enjoyed making treats for them.
    Survivors include her husband, Jimmy McKinney, Roan Mountain; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Raquel McKinney, Piney Flats; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and April McKinney, Knoxville; five young grandchildren, Hunter, Lilly Kate, Rachael, Maggie, and Isla; a brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Louise Whitehead, Roan Mountain; a sister, Della Whitehead, Roan Mountain; a nephew, Chris Whitehead and wife Shannon Whitehead, Roan Mountain; and a niece, Laura Gorney and husband Charlie Gorney, Chesapeake, VA. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
    Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in the First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain with the Rev. Garry Edwards and Rev. Chris Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the Calhoun-McKinney Cemetery. Music will be provided by Rev. Chris Hughes and Mrs JoNell Young, Organist. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the church at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday will be: Mike Blevins, Todd Markland, Johnny Markland, Larry Shell, Glen "Sonny" Burleson and Lynn Ellis.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donors favorite Charity. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain.
