Mr. Joseph Earle Steadman, 101, of Saluda Nursing Center, died Friday, Jan. 20, 1995.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Emory United Methodist Church, with the Revs. William Cooper and Thom Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Steadman, a native of Bamberg, had retired from public service as a civilian assistant to the fiscal director of the Navy Bureau of Ships. He was a published genealogist. He was a member of Emory United Methodist Church, where he was pianist, organist, choir director and a Sunday school teacher for 20 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Sarah Wagner, Norfolk, Va., and Elizabeth Taylor, West Columbia; a sister, Meldred Jester, Saluda; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
Joseph married Sarah "Sallie" DeLoach on 23 Jun 1914 in Saluda County, , , South Carolina. Sarah (daughter of Zebulon 'Zeb' DeLoach and Mary Alice Matheny) was born on 30 Mar 1889 in Edgefield County, , , South Carolina; died on 1 Jul 1959 in Saluda County, , , South Carolina; was buried in Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery, , Saluda County, South Carolina.
