Tennessee Franklin Lusk was born in Elizabethton, Carter County, Tennessee, June 22nd, 1861, the son of Samuel and Sarah Lusk. His father having died during his early infancy, he was left with his widowed mother until he came to manhood when he was united in marriage to Margaret Emma Bayless at Elizabethton, Tenn., December 28, 1882.
To this union were born ten children, seven sons and three daughters. Anna who came with her parents to Melvern, Kansas in the spring of 1884 and took her daparture(sic) from this life at the early age of seventeen months; Grover C. of Max, Nebraska; John S. of Topeka, Kan.; Edward B. of Collins, Mo. who preceded his father in death February 1923; Sara E. who died August 1923; James C. of Manhattan, Kan. and T. F. Jr. who preceded his father in death at the recent date of December 18th 1923; Howard B. of Lyndon, Kan., and Howell B. of Waverly, Kan., and baby Helen, who died in early infancy.
He with the family resided vicinity of Melvern until the yerr(sic) 1900 when he purchased the farm home near Olivet where he has resided until his death, January 3 1924, at 12:30 p. m. aged 62 years aged 62 years 6 months 12 days.
As a husband he was devoted; as a father, loving; and as a neighbor and friend, ever ready to aid and comfort in the hour of greatest need. Besise(sic) his widow and their wives and the twelve grand children, he leaves to mourn his loss a host of other relatives and friends.
While his spirit has gone to his God who gave it, his body we must commit to the tomb to await the resurrection morn.
His memory will live on and on in the lives of family and friends.
He was a charter member of the Modern Woodmen Lodge at Melvern, and took a transfer to Olivet when moving to that vicinity. In 1923 he was appointed County Commisioner of this, the Third district, to succeed Mr. Marion Smith, deceased, and was compelled to resign a short time before is death.
Funeral serviced were conducted by Rev. E. T. Lacey from the Methodist church, Melvern, and interment made in the Melvern cemetery, Saturday Jan. 5th.

ROBERT D. HYDER
In the acquirment of his education Robert D. Hyder attended the public schools of Carter Co. & subsequently enrolled in Milligan College, from which institution he was graduated in 1906, with the A. B. degree. In boyhood he had decided to enter the legal profession & upon the completion of his literary education, he began reading law in the office of C. C. Collins. He likewise did some correspondence work for Mr. Collins. From 1906 to 1914 he taught in the Carter Co. public schools & in 1909 & 1910 was superintendent of the schools in this county. In 1914 he took up the practice of law as a member of the firm of Collins & Hyder & is still active in that connection. Collins & Hyder being one of the leading law firms in Elizabethton & Carter Co. The firm enjoys an extensive general practice & handles litigation in all state & federal courts. For the past 3 years Mr. Hyder has been county attorney for Carter Co. & for 1 year he was active as recorder of the town of Elizabethton, having been appointed to that office to fill out an unexpired term.
At Elizabethton, on the 22nd of June, 1909, was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Hyder & Miss Mattie L. Brumit, a daughter of A. B. Brumit, a prominent resident of this city. To their union 5 children wer born, 3 boys & 2 girls. One boy & 1 girl died in infancy. The living children are: Carson, 12 years of age; Hillis, 10 years of age; & Helen, 3.
Mr. Hyder served in the Spanish-American War. He was corporal of Company L, 36th United States Volunteer Infantry. In 1911 he assisted in the organization of Company D, 3rd TN National Guard, & for a few months he served as lieutenant of the company. During the World War Mr. Hyder served on the legal advisory board & took a prominent & active part in the furtherance of the government's interests. Mr. Hyder votes with the Republican party. Fraternally he's identified with the Independent Order of Odd Fellow, the Junior Order of United American Mechanics & the Woodmen of the World. His religious faith is that of the Methodist Episcopal church & he is a teacher in teh Boys' Bible class. Mr. Hyder is sincerely devoted to his profession & well merits the sucess he has achieved. He is essentially public spirited & is never too busy to give his aid in the promotion of any movement for the benefit of the community at large. His friends are legion.

Vance Hyder, age 99 of Elizabethton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Oscar and Jane Dugger Hyder. Mr. Hyder was a farmer, who enjoyed raising tomatoes and was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 42 years of service. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Jenkins Hyder, December 27, 1998, two brothers and nine sisters.


Survivors include daughter, Nancy Diane Hyder, Elizabethton, three sons and daughters-in-law, Norman "Buddy" Hyder and wife, Jeane Smithdeal Hyder, Elizabethton, Carmon Ray Hyder and wife, Sue Calloway Hyder, Johnson City, Tony J. Hyder and wife, Brenda Peters Hyder, Elizabethton. Ten grandchildren, Michael K. Adams, Bristol, TN, Andy Hyder, Elizabethton, Patrick Hyder, Telford, Timothy Hyder, Johnson City, Christopher Hyder, Johnson City, Kathy Hyder Boling, Elizabethton, Katrina Hyder Hopson, Elizabethton, Alecia Hyder, Elizabethton, Debbie Hyder Hodges, Elizabethton, Tabitha Hyder Blackwell, Elizabethton, 19 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. One special niece, Elaine Brumit, Elizabethton. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.


The funeral service for Mr. Vance Hyder will be conducted at 8 PM, Thursday, May 24, 2012 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. C.W. Snodgrass and Rev. Burl Sluder officiating. Music will be under the direction of Katrina Hopson, Debbie Hodges and Tabitha Blackwell. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, from 6:30 PM until 8 PM prior to the service.


The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Noon at Happy Valley Memorial Park. MILLIGAN COLLEGE — Mr. George "PeePee" Hammitt Jr., of Milligan College, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, in the LeConte Medical Center in Sevierville, TN.

He was the son of the late Eva Glover Hammitt and George Hammitt Sr. and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a brother, Luther Hammitt; two sisters, Mary Hammitt and Dollie Davenport.

Mr. Hammitt was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Air Force and served in WWII. He retired from Caudle Wholesale, where he worked as a contractor, after twenty years of service. He enjoyed reading, carpentry and woodworking, NASCAR and his visitations with Pastor Mark Street and Wes Barnett. He was a member of American Legion Post #49 and of Milligan Free Will Baptist Church.

He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of sixty- three years, Margaret Hopson Hammitt, of the home; two daughters, Shirlene Hammitt Sholes and her husband, Dillard, M. Sholes III, of Johnson City, Sharon K. Hammitt, of the home; a special granddaughter, Dr. Paige L. Sholes, Johnson City; a brother, Archie Hammitt and his wife, Jean, Elizabethton; and his faithful companions, BooBoo, Little Bit, Sadie and Sophia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Hammitt will be conducted on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at 2:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Pastor Mark Street officiating. Music will be under the direction of Joel Street.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 12:30-2:00 PM on Saturday prior to the service and at the home of his daughter, Shirlene, 800 Forest Avenue, Johnson City, at other times.

The committal and entombment service will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park, Mausoleum of Peace. Agnes Glover Blackburn, 93, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 2, 2021, at Hillview Health Center. Agnes was born in Carter County to the late Frank and Bertie Sims Glover. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Stuart “Haney” Blackburn; her first husband, C.O. Polen Jr.; and six siblings, Ed Harris, James Glover, Charles Glover, Lillian Carden, Mary Moody and Edna Cole.
Agnes was a longtime member of Zion Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, reading and visiting Amish country.
Those left to cherish her memories include her children, Carroll Glover (Janet), Janette West (Tony), Anna Hodge and Orin Blackburn (Carol); grandchildren, Tim Barnett (Shelia), Travis Glover, Dustin Glover, Chris West, Samantha Martinez (Josh), Grace Blackburn and Mallory Blackburn; great-grandchildren, Riley Barnett, Kaden Roberts and Sophie Martinez; and special friend, Leonard Cross. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will hold a celebration of life service for Agnes Glover Blackburn at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Alan King and Caleb King officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Agnes will be laid to rest at Mountain Home National Cemetery and a graveside service will be held at a later date.

ELIZABETHTON - Glenda "Sue" Hampton, age 80, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 11, 2019 from Signature Health and Rehab Center of Elizabethton, following an extended illness.

Sue was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Dan and Lydia Mae Glover Matherly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Glenn Hampton; four sisters, Ethel Matherly, Louise Hay, Anna B. Whaley and Nell Matherly; and one brother, Howard "Red" Matherly.

Sue was always on the go! Either working around the church or cooking for the church. She had worked at Pizza Inn for over 30 years and was very proud of her service. She was a loyal and devoted member of Sims Hill Christian Church and enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, cooking, traveling on bus tours and most especially Sue loved being around her family and her church family.

Those left to cherish her wonderful memories include her daughter, Melissa Carr and husband Tim and her grandson, Dylan Carr, all of Elizabethton; a sister, Jean Matherly, of Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Lois Matherly, of Elizabethton; and her nieces and nephews, Jill Baggett and Loria Gabert, both of Alabama, Sandy Cole and Dan Matherly, of Elizabethton. Several great nieces and great nephews also survive.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Glenda "Sue" Hampton will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 14, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Gerald Holly, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 15, 2019 in the Sims Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tim Carr, Dylan Carr, Bryan Miller and Derrick Hamm. Honorary pallbearers will be Mack Henry, Rock Kelly, Dan Matherly and Jimmy Cole.

Mr. Billie Jack Glover, age 89, of Johnson City, TN passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 in NHC Health Care-Johnson City following a brief illness.

The families of Jack Glover will hold a Celebration of Life to honor the man who was special to so many. It will take place Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Fellowship Hall of Fall Creek Baptist Church, 4241 Beech Mountain Rd., Elk Park, NC.

Born May 22, 1927, Jack went to be with the Lord on July 13, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents Dave and Bess Glover, and a sister Georgia Ford.

He is survived by two sisters: Pearl (Kenneth) Jones and Betty (Bob) Townsend, both of Johnson City.

Jack's first wife, Nadine (Church) Glover, passed away, leaving him with three young children: Judy Kay Scott, David (Donna) Glover of Meadville, PA and Phillip Glover (deceased). At this time, Jack helped to create a new family, joining with his Aunt Mayzie Hagie (deceased), a widow with two children still at home: Stanley (Kathy) Hagie of Sylvan Beach, NY and Jean (Tim) Sherwood (deceased).

After many years, he met and married his second wife, Nadine (Hangartner) Glover (deceased). She was a widow with five children: George, Sam (Gwen), Anita (Wayne) D'Hondt, Darlene (Arthur) Platt, all of NY and Tim (Kim) Hangartner of Morristown, TN (deceased).
Jack became "Dad", "Papa", "Pop" or "Jackson" to all. He was also Grandpa to many including Christina (Robert) Warnock, Stephanie (Tom) McCaffrey, Jeff (Kim) Glover, Darryl (April) Glover, Silver Marie Glover, Ken (Glenda) Hagie, Madeline Sherwood, Aaron (Kelly) Sherwood, Emily (Chris) Byler, Nate (Sara) Zapp, Ginni Platt, Jeff Platt, Deanna (Tom) Poczciwinski, Sam Hangartner and Kyle, Aubrie and Tyler Hangartner. He had several great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. His nieces and nephews were special to him and he was known to some as "Our Tennessee Dad". He had a special "daughter", Deltah (Paul) Kleinhans, and remained close all his life to the siblings of his first wife: Vivian Schackow, Joyce Reece (deceased) and Ross, Dale, Hobert Jr. and Lowell Church.

JOHNSON CITY - Edna Pearl Glover Jones, 88, Johnson City went home to be with her Lord, Saturday, January 6, 2018 in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home after an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Dave & Bess Emmert Glover. Mrs. Jones worked at TPI and retired from North Electric. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Edna Ruth Terry, A Grandson: Jeff Buck, a Brother: Billy Jack Glover and a sister: Georgia Ford. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of 71 years: Kenneth Jones. A Son & Daughter-in-Law: Tony & Irene Jones, Johnson City. Four Grandchildren: Mark Jones, Brian Buck & Wife Tracie, Mooresville, NC., Tina Michelle Buck and friend, Mike Hughes, Elizabethton and Kim Reec & husband Anthony. Seven Great Grandchildren. A Service to Celebrate the life in Edna Jones will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Alan King officiating, and Pastor Bobby Stout officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Cindy Johnson. ELIZABETHTON - Alma Ruth (Campbell) Cox of Elizabethton celebrated her 90th birthday on January 28, 2018.

She passed away on February 20, 2018 at her home, with her daughters and family by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Kenneth Cox ; her parents, John B. Campbell and Mattie Range Campbell; brothers and sister-in-law: Vane Campbell, Selba (Hilda) Campbell, Max Campbell, and Lewis Campbell; granddaughter, Alexandria Horton; great-granddaughter, Isabella Chambers.

Alma Ruth was married to Walter for 49 years prior to his death in November 2002. She was the proud mother of three daughters, Janet (Devoid) Wright, Jeanna Shields, and Jane (John) Oakley. She took great pride and joy in her nine grandchildren: Tera Wright, Megan Wright, and Chelsea Wright; Heather (George) Shields Walker; Holly (Jamie Chambers) Shields, Hayley (BJ) Shields Miller, and Hunter Shields; Elizabeth Oakley and Oliva Oakley; and her eight great-grandchildren: Alena Little; Nicholas Chambers, Noelle Chambers, Nahla Chambers, and Natalyn Chambers; Jackson Miller, Mattie Miller, and Eva Miller. She is also survived by her brother, Gene (Carrie) Campbell, Marion Campbell, Charlotte Campbell, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alma Ruth graduated from Happy Valley High School in 1946. She was the class valedictorian and cheerleader. She began her professional life as a receptionist at The Franklin Clinic. Then she worked as a clerical staff member at Bemberg until 1963, when she became a full time mother.

During her lifetime, she was a devoted wife and the most loving mother and grandmother. Her sweet disposition and smile is what will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. Her numerous talents included cooking, gardening, sewing, painting, knitting, and crafts of all kinds. She was a member of the Tuesday Painting Group for over 40 years. She was a baptized believer of Jesus Christ and was a member of Big Springs Church of Christ, where she was the pianist and served as the president of the Sunshine Circle. In 1954, she and her husband became members of First Christian Church, Elizabethton, until her death. During her membership she served in various capacities in the Fidelis Sunday School Class and Women's Union.

The family would like to thank all of the nursing staff that took such wonderful care of our Mom the last couple of weeks from Amedisys Home Health Care, Amedisys Hospice Care (Emily & Jerry) and some very special people from J.C. Internal Medicine (Melissa, Martha, Tracy and Carol), Dr. Haddadin's Group, Dr. Mills's Group, and Dr.Farrow's Group.

Services for Alma Ruth will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 25, 2018 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Michael Klaus, minister officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. before the service. Interment will be at Happy Valley Memorial Park following the service. Max Richard Campbell, 73, Long Hollow Road, Elizabethton, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at his residence. A lifelong resident of Carter County, he was a son of the late John B. and Mattie Range Campbell. Mr. Campbell was a graduate of Happy Valley High School, where he was a member of the 1950 basketball team that won the state championship under Coach John Treadway.

He was a graduate of Tennessee Polytechnical Institute, Cookeville, where he received a B.S. degree in agriculture science. Mr. Campbell was a retired manager of the ETSU Post Office.

He was an officer in the 102nd Airborne
Division during the Korean Conflict, having served in the US Army. He was a lifelong member of the Big Spring Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Walter Harvey; and three brothers, Vane, Lewis and Selba Campbell.

Mrs. Wilma Rhea Collins Kitzmiller, age 94, was called home by her Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a resident at Hillview Nursing Home in Elizabethton, TN, but formerly resided in Johnson City, TN.

Born on April 26, 1929, Wilma was the fourth of eleven children of John N. and Myrtle Range Collins.

Mrs. Kitzmiller was born and raised in Carter County, Tennessee, in the Oak Grove/Powder Branch community. She was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Christian Church. Wilma was a 1947 graduate of Happy Valley High School, and in 1950, she received a B.A. in Business Education from Steed College of Technology, Elizabethton. She retired from the Carter County School System where she devoted her entire career to teaching Business Education at Happy Valley High School from 1950-1985.

Wilma enjoyed reading, gardening, and watching Atlanta Braves baseball.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kitzmiller was preceded in death by ten siblings, and by her husband William M. Kitzmiller.

Wilma is survived by her only daughter, Karen Kitzmiller Norman and husband Mark of Johnson City; grandsons Andrew Norman and wife Jennica; Eric Norman and wife Jessi, all of Johnson City. In addition, Mrs. Kitzmiller is survived by six great-grandchildren: Mallory, Judah, Elias, Gabriel, Greer, and Maren Norman, all of Johnson City. Also remaining to cherish her memory is a special niece, Brenda Collins Kyte. Several other nieces, nephews, and cousins survive.

A service to honor the life and memory of Wilma Kitzmiller will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Memorial Funeral Home, Elizabethton, Tennessee, with Dr. Ted Thomas and Andrew Norman officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00-12:30 with the funeral beginning at 12:30. Interment will take place at Monte Vista Cemetery, 1900 E. HAMPTON - Mr. Albert James Deloach, 85, of Hampton, passed away unexpectedly, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital on Friday, December 2, 2016. He was a son of the late E.T. and Wilda Williams Deloach and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Fay Marrs Deloach; a granddaughter, Jocelyn Hendrix; four sisters and four brothers.

Mr. Deloach was a former member and past deacon at Hampton First Baptist Church where he worked with the Royal Ambassadors for twenty years and was currently a member of Hampton Christian Church. He was a willing volunteer, delivered Meals on Wheels and was a "handyman" for the ladies of the church. He spent sixty years enjoying and working in his garden and he also was an accomplished woodworker. He was retired from Sperry-Univac where he was a supervisor.

Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Gwen Hendrix, Hampton; Libby Shipley and her husband, Bobby, Jonesborough; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony & Ginger Deloach, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Heather Hopland and her husband, Kenny, Elizabethton; Curry Deloach, Johnson City; Glenna Fine and her husband, Anthony, Johnson City; Karen Lester and her husband, Derrick, Jonesborough; Amy Shipley, Jonesborough; and seven great-grandchildren. ELIZABETHTON - Phyllis W. Lovette, age 81, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

She was born in Carter County and was a daughter of the late Maude (VanHuss) and Benjamin Harrison Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Lovette, Sr., a brother, Dr. Ben Williams, and three sisters, Christine W. Justis, Elizabeth W. Love and Beatrice W. Alexander.

Mrs. Lovette was a graduate of Elizabethton High School, class of 1954 and a 1961 graduate of East Tennessee State College (ETSU) where she chose music as both her major and her minor. Music was her life and because of her love of music she spent her career teaching others. She taught music at Cloudland High School, Harold McCormick Elementary School and West Hills Elementary School in Knoxville. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities over the years, including as the director of the Chancel Choir for sixteen years and as the director of the Handbell Choir. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and served as President of that organization and a member of the Elizabethton Women's Civic Club where she also served as President. She loved to collect antiques.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Richard H. Lovette, Jr. (Jennine), of Johnson City; a grandson, Caleb Lovette, of Johnson City and several nieces and nephews.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Lovette will be conducted on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at 2:00 PM in the First United Methodist Church, Elizabethton with Rev. Raymond. W. Amos, Sr. and Rev. Buford Hankins officiating. Music will be under the direction the Chancel Choir of First United Methodist Church and Mr. David Arney, organist. Born in Carter County on January 14, 1950 to the late Orville & Temperence Hyder Markland. She was retired from Leon Fernbach, Inc. She was the greatest wife, mother, grandmother, sister and great grandmother to ever walk the earth. Everyone who knew her loved her so much because of the amount of love she always gave in return. She was truly a remarkable lady and this world really lost a great woman. Linda was of the Baptist Faith and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Jane Cable and Sandie Campbell and her sister-in-law, Donna Markland. Survivors include her husband: Thomas Russell and they were to celebrate their 49th wedding anniversary on November 7, 2015. Three Sons: Thomas Jr. and his wife Amy, Elizabethton, Christopher and his wife Tonya and Michael and his wife Emily all of Johnson City. Six Grandchildren: Christopher Jr., Jordan Blake, Logan, Taylor, Trevor and Bailey Russell , two great grandchildren: Aisley and Hailey. Three Brothers: Tom, Ricky and Raymond Markland and a sister: Goldie Lawson, a brother-in-law: Bobby Joe Russell and a sister-in-law: Lorine Hopson. Several nieces & nephews. JOHNSON CITY - Barbara Ruth Goodwin, 65, of Johnson City, went to be with her Lord on Monday, January 14, 2019 at NHC Healthcare of Johnson City.

She was born in Elizabethton, a daughter of the late Albert and Nola Yelton Hyder.

Barbara was a member of University Parkway Baptist Church, where she was a preschool teacher in the Livewire Children's Ministry for over nine years. She was a devout Christian and was part of the Explorer Bible Study group for over 30 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayne Goodwin; and three sisters, Brenda York, Marrian Smith, and Jewel Richardson.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Goodwin; a stepdaughter, Patsy Hayes; a stepdaughter, Lois Brady and her husband, Ron; a stepdaughter, Donna Mitchell and her husband, Fred; a stepson, Gary Goodwin; a brother, Carl Hyder and his wife Donna; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The Goodwin family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2019, in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home Dogwood Chapel. JOHNSON CITY - Sharon "Katie" Hammitt, age 66, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at her residence.

Katie was a native of Carter County and was a daughter of Margaret Lee Hopson Hammitt and the late George Hammitt, Jr. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Lee Hammitt; her maternal grandparents, Tommie and Mary Hopson; her paternal grandmother, Eva Glover Hammitt; and several aunts and uncles.

Katie retired as a pharmacy tech and was a member of Milligan Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed Duke Basketball, cross-stitching and floral arrangement.

Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Margaret Lee Hopson Hammitt, of the home; her sister, Shirlene Hammitt Sholes and husband Dillard M. Sholes, III, of Johnson City; a special niece, Dr. Paige L. Sholes, of Johnson City; two special friends, Rebecca Street, of Roan Mountain and Amy Hotelling, of Unicoi. Several cousins also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Sharon "Katie" Hammitt will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Mark Street, officiating and Wes Barnett, providing a eulogy. Music will be provided by Joel Street. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Wednesday or at the residence at any time.

The committal and entombment service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Happy Valley Memorial Park, Mausoleum of Peace. ELIZABETHTON — Nancy Mae Collins, 51, 109 Butterfly Lane, Elizabethton passed away Wednesday September 1, 2010 in the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was a Carter County native.

Nancy was a 1978 graduate of Happy Valley High School. She was employed as a beautician for several years. She loved spending time with her family. She was a Free Will Baptist.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father Clifton Collins in 1973 by three brothers: Rusty Collins, Freddie Collins and Randy Chesser, her step-father: Harold Johnson and an infant brother and sister, Joe & Linda Sue.

Survivors include her mother: Hazel Collins Johnson. Three Sisters & Brothers-In-Law: Judy and Dean Bowling, Hampton, Joan and David Garland and Joyce and Sonny Miller all of Elizabethton. A Step-Brother: Keith Johnson, Roan Mountain. Her Nieces & Nephews: Jason, Cynthia, Daniel, Joey, Brandon and Locus, Her special great nieces & nephews: Curtis, Haley, Caleb and Page.

HAMPTON — Lloyd B. Deloach, 72, 136 Stevens Lane, Hampton, died Thursday, January 3, 2008, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Ben & Vina Carver Deloach. He was retired from the T & K Tool & Die Company. He served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Deloach was a member of the Zion Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother.

Wanda DeLoach Sheek, 75, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018, at The Laurels of Salisbury.
Born December 25, 1942 in Hampton, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Maggie DeLoach.
Ms. Sheek was educated in the Hampton, Tenn. schools and graduated from Hampton High School, Class of 1961.
She was employed for Cone Mills for 25 years and later Jockey Industries before retiring. Following retiring she was a caregiver who touched the lives of many.
Ms. Sheek was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, Cooleemee.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Richard Sheek, on November 29, 2000; a son, Richard "Ritchie" Clark Sheek, on June 17, 2007; and a brother, Johnny Whitehead.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, David Lee Greenwell and wife Tammy of Wake Forest, and Darby Keith Sheek and wife Beth of Troutman; sister, Wilma DeLoach of Elizabethton, Tenn.; grandchildren, Keith Sheek of Pinehurst, Joshua Wyatt and wife Angela of Statesville, Tatum Greenwell and Ethan Greenwell of Wake Forest; and great-grandchildren, Liam, Kadyn and Keegan.

ELIZABETHTON - Emmert “Ray” Loveless, 68 of Elizabethton, TN went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 06, 2021, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Tempie Loveless. He was a faithful member and deacon of Little Mountain Baptist Church, where he enjoyed playing bass guitar. He was a retired carpenter and owner of Loveless Cabinet Tops. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchild.

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Loveless and dear brother in Christ, C. W. Snodgrass, Jr. Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years Brenda Franklin Loveless of the home. Daughters: Tina Cole (Tim Willis) of Unicoi, Kim Norris (Thomas) of Watauga, TN. GILBERT, SC - Chrisley Jay Loveless, 66, of Gilbert, SC on January 7, 2023 surrounded by his family at home. Chris was born and grew up in Elizabethton, TN. After graduating from Happy Valley High School in 1974, he worked for several manufacturing and retail stores in management. More importantly to him, Chris (Jay to his people in Elizabethton) began to work with several bands in Johnson City, TN before joining the band Hickory Switch and traveling around the west. It was there that he met the love of his life Mary on August 5, 1985. The two were engaged in August 23, 1985 and Chris married Mary and her 2 children on November 9, 1985. The next 4 years welcomed 2 more children in 1986 and 1989 and a move to Gilbert, SC in 1991 where they raised their family.

Chris is preceded in death by his mother Tempie D. Loveless, and 2 brothers Leonard Clay and Emmert Ray Loveless. He is survived by his wife Mary, his daughter Anita Shelek (Todd) in Wheeling, WV, his son Danny Jumer (Norma) in Gilbert, SC, his daughter Aubrey Vaughn in Columbia, SC, and his son Forrest Loveless in Gilbert, SC; two sisters, Evelyn Stroud, of Statesville, NC, Gaye Loveless, of Elizabethton, TN; two sister's-in-law, Brenda Loveless, of Elizabethton, TN and Linda Loveless, of WY; along with 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild on the way and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Chris was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt the deserved. His family was his whole world.

The family will have a service to honor the life of Chrisley “Jay” Loveless on Saturday January 14th, 2023 at 1 pm with Pastor Charles Swann officiating and Aubrey Vaughn will be presenting the eulogy. They will receive friends from 12-1 pm prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Loveless-Woodby family cemetery.
