    ELIZABETHTON - Mary Esther Nave, 84, Elizabethton, passed away on 12/08/2021, from Covid Pneumonia. She was born and raised in the Valley Forge Community off Long Hollow Rd. She was the daughter of the late Coy Nave, Sr. and Minnie Little Nave. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Blanche Dolan, Vorita Hodge and Pansy Taylor and two brothers: Coy Nave, Jr. and Harold Lee Nave and one very special nephew, Joey Nave and one niece, Melissa Richardson. She was a retired CNA and Cook in the health care field. Mary was single all her life but she was a mother and friend to many, especially to her family and friends. She loved to clean, garden and cook. She will be greatly missed. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church.
    She is survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Farris Nave and a very special friend, Jerry Maupin. She is also survived by her special Fury Friend, Molly. Mary also is survived by her special friends: Jimmy Vanhorn, Elaine Brumitt, Lisa and DA Bowers and Family, Bill and Margaret Dolan and Mary Roberts, Rachel Laws, Bryson Laws and Brianna Hoyle Jenkins.
    A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021 in the McKinney Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Richardson and Rev. Sherrell Nave officiating. Music will be provided by Patti Whitson. Active pallbearers that are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday will be: Mike McKinney, Brad Whitson, Bryson Laws, Davon Jarrett, Hunter Nave, Joshua Nave and Travis Brumit. Honorary Pallbearers are Larry Nave, Dwayne Forbes, Bill Dolan and DA Bowers.

    Earl Hampton, 90, of Johnson City, Tenn., passed away Monday, November 29, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center. Earl was born in Carter County to the late Leonard Benjamin Hampton and Mary Nave Hampton. In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Glenda Williams Hampton; three sisters, Ethel Hampton, Ella Mae Miller and Orlia Harrison; five brothers, Samuel Hampton, Paul Hampton, Ray Hampton, Roy Hampton and Johnny Hampton; and a special cousin, Ruth Street.
    Earl graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1949. He joined the United States Army and was a First Sergeant having served in the Korean Conflict. He later served in the United States Army Reserves. Earl was the owner and operator of Hampton Homes based in Johnson City, Tenn., and built hundreds of houses in East Tennessee. He served as Board of Education member of Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville, Tenn., for 38 years. Earl read the Bible every day; he had actually read the Bible through 14 times.
    Survivors include a daughter, Robbin Hampton Aesque and husband Charles of Gray, Tenn.; a son, Tony Hampton and wife Martha of Sulphur Springs, Tenn.; a brother, Jerry Hampton of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Hampton of Erwin, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Brock Aesque and Hank Hampton; one great-grandchild, Liam Jude Aesque; and a special nephew, Chuck Hampton of Charlestown, W.Va.
    A private service for members of the Hampton family will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 4, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

    UNICOI - John C. "Johnny" Hampton, age 84, of Unicoi, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

    Johnny was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Leonard and Mary Nave Hampton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ray Hampton, Roy Hampton, Samuel Hampton and Paul Hampton; and three sisters, Ethel Hampton, Orlia Harrison and Ella Mae Miller.

    Johnny was the former owner and operator of John's Barber Shop in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a United States Army veteran, having served his country proudly in the Korean Conflict. Johnny was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Unicoi Masonic Lodge #681 F&AM and he was a member of Grace Methodist Church of Erwin. He loved to garden, golf, loved his church and being with his children and his church family.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife, Barbara Hampton, of the home; two sons, Terry L. Hampton and wife Kristin, of Gray, Tennessee and Chuck Hampton and wife Joyce, of Ranson, West Virginia; four grandchildren, Jason Hampton, of Gray, Jennifer Hampton, of Gray, Lindsey Sederstrom, of Stephen City, VA and Chelsea Hampton, of Hagerstown, Maryland; three great grandchildren, Ethan Abramot, Tristan Abramot and Oliver Sederstrom; two brothers, Earl Hampton, of Johnson City and Jerry Hampton and wife Sandy, of Knoxville, Tennessee. Several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, also survive.

    A service to honor the life of John C. "Johnny" Hampton will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 28, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Garland James and Mr. Tony Hoss, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday.

    The graveside and inurnment will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 29, 2019 at Mountain Home National Cemetery (In the new section of the VA cemetery). Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Garland James, Herschel and Barbara Scalf, Anthony and Karen Lyons, Rob and Kathy Perry, Steve and Carol McGill and Brenda and Bill Brown.

    ELIZABETHTON - Randy Cleveland McKinney, age 74, of the Gap Creek Community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from the Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

    Randy was born in Elizabethton, but had spent 20 + years in Roan Mountain, before returning to the Gap Creek Community. He was a son of the late C.H. "Pee Wee" McKinney and Ruella Nave McKinney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an older sister, Charlotte Ann McKinney in 1984; and a brother-in-law, Steve Payne in December 2017.

    Randy retired from the Northeast Correctional Facility in Mountain City, Tennessee. He was a National Guard veteran and was a member of the 1962 graduating class at Happy Valley High School. Randy was a member of Big Spring Church of Christ, where he was baptized in 1956. He enjoyed draft horses, wagon trains and farming with horses.

    Those left to cherish his memories include two sons, James C. McKinney, of the home and Matthew L. McKinney and wife Diane, of Roan Mountain; two granddaughters, Shellie McKinney and Mattison McKinney, both of Roan Mountain; one grandson, Randall Johnson, of Roan Mountain; one sister, Linda M. Payne, of the Milligan College Community; one brother, Michael McKinney and companion Susie Bledsoe and Michael's grandson, Kody Austin, all of Elizabethton; a nephew, Alex Payne and wife Andrea and their daughter, Eva; and two nieces, Krista McKinney Richardson and her sons, Chance McKinney and Lane Richardson, and Kara McKinney Austin. Several cousins also survive.

    A service to honor and celebrate the life of Randy Cleveland McKinney will be conducted at 5:00 PM on Saturday, December 15, 2018 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Mr. Glen Layfield, minister and Pastor Sherrel Nave, officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday.

    The graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 16, 2018 in the McKinney Cemetery, 142 Bear Hollow Road, Elizabethton, Tennessee. Active pallbearers will be Joey Grant Nave, Larry Nave, Ralph McKinney, Randall Johnson, Alex Payne, Kody Austin, Chance McKinney and Lane Richardson. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 PM on Sunday, to go in procession.

    ELIZABETHTON - Patsy Nave-Hubbard, age 61, of Elizabethton, TN went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Lula McKinney Nave. Patsy had been a sales associate at the Walmart, Elizabethton for forty-one and ½ years. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church in the Gap Creek Community. She loved to play the piano; was an avid photographer and enjoyed gardening. Patsy loved her pets and especially loved her family and visiting with people.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ken Franklin. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Clinton Eugene Hubbard, of the home; brothers, Gary Nave and wife Miyoko, Sumter, SC and Larry Nave and wife Sara, Elizabethton, TN; sister, Barbara Smith and husband Paul, Banner Elk, NC; sisters-in-law, Jan Franklin, Palmer, TN and Kay Mason and husband Jim, Arkansas; brothers-in-law, Lee Hubbard and wife Terry, Elizabethton, TN and Mike Hubbard and wife Sue, Johnson City, TN; step-son, Chris Hubbard and wife Sheena, Texas and four step-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, special friends and neighbors also survive.

    A service to honor the life of Patsy Nave-Hubbard will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 31, 2016 in Zion Baptist Church, Gap Creek with Dr. Alan King and Rev. Sherrel Nave officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Zion Baptist Church Choir and Jennifer Hughes, pianist. Graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Chris Nave, Jeremiah Nave, Jeff Smith, Joshua Hubbard, Lee Hubbard, Chris Hubbard and Mike Hubbard. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Franklin, the men of Zion Baptist Church, brothers and sisters in Christ, cousins and friends.

    The family will receive friends at Zion Baptist Church, Gap Creek on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. or at the residence at any time or at the residence of her brother, Larry Nave at any time.

    The family would like to express a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice and her niece, Julie Brown for the loving care given to Patsy and to the members of Zion Baptist Church. In Patsy's own words, she would like to "thank Katherine White, Yvonne Stegier, all my brothers and sisters in Christ, my fellow associate friends at Walmart and several special friends."

    Melissa Dawn “Mammy” Richardson gained her heavenly wings Friday, March 5, 2021, at her home after an extended illness. She was born August 15, 1958, and resided in Hampton, Tenn., her whole life.
    Melissa loved her family, pink flamingos and swimming, which was one of her favorite things to do. She was the best wife, momma and mammy in the entire world. She was affectionately called Mammy by most everyone that was blessed enough to know her. She was a faithful member of Sunset Freewill Baptist Church.
    Melissa was preceded in death by her father, Harold Lee Nave.
    She is survived by her mother, Farris Orlein Nave; her loving husband of 43 years, Terry Richardson; her devoted daughter, Rachel Richardson Laws; her precious grandchildren, Brianna “Bree” Hoyle and Bryson Laws; her sister, Patti Whitson and husband Brad Whitson; her nephew, Nathan Whitson and wife Laura; her special “sisters,” Kim Richardson, Donna Fritts, Lela Fuller and Vicki Fuller; several other nieces and nephews; and her church family.
    Her family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. James Shipley and the staff of Burgie Drug Store.
    A graveside service for Melissa Dawn Richardson will be conducted Monday, March 8, at 3 p.m. at the McKinney Cemetery in Elizabethton, Tenn. Preacher Norman Lovelace will officiate and singing will be provided by Vanessa Cox.
