Information from Adrienne Solomon :
William Harrison Williams left Watauga County, NC and went to Tacoma, WA before 1910. He changed his name to William Hodges and married a woman named Sarah. On his death certificate, Sarah lists her maiden name as Sarah Hodges. Nothing else is known about her. In 1914, William and Sarah had a daughter named Beatrice Emily Hodges. She died in 1917. They also had a son, William Anderson Hodges, who died in 1980. William H., Beatrice Emily, and William Anderson are all buried in unmarked graves in Ross Bay Cemetery in Victoria, British Columbia. Sarah is no where to be found. As the story goes, Williams's 1st wife's uncle, Ford Harbin, tracked him down in Victoria, B.C. in about 1917. He was going to kill him but did not after finding out they had lost a child. So he struck a deal with him instead. If William promised to send his first set of kids $10 each per month for child support, Ford promised not to reveal where he was living or his situation. In a letter dated 1918 from Uncle Ford Harbin to one of William's daughters, Mattie, in NC, Ford asked her not to think hard of him. So long as William keeps his end of the bargain, he will keep his.

A Canadian relative on the Solomon side of the family sent photos of the unmarked graves in Victoria. Very strange. No tombstones at all. Not even for Wm. Anderson Hodges who died in 1980!

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Dyson Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Ernest Rash and Rev. Keene Roark officiating.
Burial was in Dyson Grove Cemetery.

Native of Watauga County, N.C., but had made his home in Johnson County for the past 15 years. Son of the late Dr. William and Mary Johnson Williams, he was a retired employee of General Motors Corp., and a member of the Dyson Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors are: wife: Mrs. Runa Williams, Butler; two sons, James Jarvis Williams, Butler, and Lee Williams, Hillsville, Va.; five daughters: Mrs. Virginia Harwins, Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Edith Barrand, Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. Eliabeth[sic] Hyder, Elizabethton, Mrs. Sarah Cooks, Utica, Mich., Mrs. Louise Williamson, Southfield, Mich.; 16 grand-children[sic]; 7 great-grand-children[sic]; also a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted from the Dyson Grove Baptist Church Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Clyde Campbell and Rev. Keene Roark officiating. Burial was in the Mast cemetery.

Robert L. Williams, age 82 of Butler Route 1 (Dyson Grove) died in Cannon Memorial Hospital, Banner Elk, N.C. Tuesday at 12:20 a.m. after a lengthy illness. A native of Watauga County, N.C., he had made his home in Johnson County for the past eight years. Mr. Williams was a retired coal miner.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Sallie Williams, Butler; three sons, William I. Williams and Clarence R. Williams, both of Detroit, Mich., and Brady L. Wiliams[sic], Flint Rock, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Hawk of Palmyra, Va., Mrs. Beulah Self, Clinche[sic], Va, Mrs. Dorothy Burton, Las Vegas, Nev.; one brother, Ben Williams, Butler; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from Dryson Grove Baptist Church Thursday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Clyde Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Mast cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Donald Williams, Micky Williams, W.C. Williams, Ray Williams and Jimmy Williams, and Robert, Kenneth and Garry Self.
The body will remain at the funeral home chapel until 12:00 noon Thursday at which time it will be taken to the church to await the service hour. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.

Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Morefield, 81, formerly of Neva, Tennessee, who had been making her home with her son, Connie G. Morefield on West "G" Street Extension, died in a local hospital Thursday at 3 p.m. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Maymead.
She is survived by two sons, Connie of West "G" Street, Extension, and Ira Morefield of Lundale, West Virginia; two grandchildren, P.F.C. Danny Morefield stationed in Germany and Mrs. Dorothy White of West Virginia; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Joe Dan Stout, Stanley Stout, and Nickolas Stout all of Neva, and Jim Stout of Route 5, Elizabethton; and three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Huskins of Erwin, Mrs. Sallie Walker of Neva, and Mrs. Stacey Slemp of Route 5, Johnson City.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the West Side Church of Christ with James H. Bingham and the Rev. Earl Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the Happy Valley Memorial Cemetery.

Fred Price, age 63, veteran of World War I, died in the Veteran's Hospital at Mountain Home, Tennessee, on October 5. He had been in ill health for several years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 8, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with the Reverend E. O. Gore and the Reverend Roscoe Greene in charge of the rites at the church.

Military services will be held at the graveside and all veterans are requested to be present.

MOUNTAIN CITY — Frances Adlee Walker Robinson, age 96, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2011, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was born on February 16, 1915, in Neva, Tennessee, daughter of the late William Roby and Sally Stout Walker. In addition to her parents, Adlee was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Robinson; and several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

She was a former employee of Michael's Department Store, where she had worked for almost 40 years. Adlee was very active and enjoyed life to the fullest and had participated in the Senior Citizens Center exercise program for many years. She liked sewing, crocheting, working in her garden and canning, reading, working word and jigsaw puzzles and traveling.

She was a member of First Baptist Church for 70 years and was an active member in CARE. Adlee was a former Sunday School teacher, where she had taught both children's and adult classes. She was also an active member in both the WMU and Baptist Women's Leader.

Adlee is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Jane and Ralph Walters, of Elizabethtown, KY, Kay and Wayne Smith, of Kingston, TN, and Charlene and Kyle Kelley, of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren: Scott Davis and wife, Angie, Shawn Smith and wife, Mariah, Kristie Guess, Frances Kelley and Sarah Kelley; great grandchildren: Silas Guess, Anna Guess, Janie Smith, Kaitlyn Davis and William Davis; sister, Leota Rash, of Elizabethton, TN; brother, Hugh Walker, of Neva, TN; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins; her church family; and many special friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2011, at First Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Ricky Campbell to officiate.

Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2011 at Phillippi Cemetery

Sam was probably named after Joseph Gervais. Joseph was a French-Canadian, later American, pioneer settler and trapper in the Pacific Northwest. Joseph joined the Pacific Fur Company, a venture owned by John Jacob Astor. After trapping throughout the Oregon territiory for the Hudson's Bay Company,[7] Gervais permanently settled on French Prairie at the site of what is now the town of Gervais. This is the area where Sam's father Joseph Alexander DeLoach came seeking employment between 1910 and 1920. It is more than a coincidence that Joseph named his first two sons Gervais and Astor.

About a year after the DeLoach family moved to Johnson City, Tennessee, Sam officially changed his name to Samuel Carter, the name of his grandfather. Sam joined the Civil Conservation Corps after the DeLoach family moved to Johnson City. Following a tour of duty at the Morristown, TN, camp, he attended East Tennesse State Normal College for a quarter. He dropped out of college, and had a series of odd jobs. Following the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, he was drafted into the Army. After reporting to Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, for Basic Training, he found that he did not like Army life and decided to come home to Tennessee. After a short period at home, he was arrested for being Absent Without Leave, and returned to Fort Oglethorpe. Realizing that he was going to have to stay in the Army, he began applying himself rigorously to his military tasks, and was soon selected for Officer Candidate School (OCS). By the end of WW II, he had advanced to the grade of Major in the Transportation Corps. Following the war, there was an Army-wide reduction of force, and Sam was given the rank of Master Sergeant and retained on active Army duty. When the Korean War broke out, he was returned to officer status, and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. He retired at this rank in 1956. Following his Army career, Sam became a real estate salesman in the Monterrey Bay area of California. He did quite well in this business, but after several years, found the long hours and weekend work distasteful. He and June sold their home in Monterrey, and moved to Walnut Creek, CA. After a short stint in full retirement, he got a job as a security guard at the Oakland Army Depot. He retired from this job when he was in his early 60's.

Mike DeLoach grew up in Campbell Hollow, near Doeville in Johnson County, Tennessee. He attended Doeville Elementary School and the Watauga Academy in Butler, Tennessee. When his family moved to Washington County in about 1934, he attended Jonesborough High School, where he graduated with honors and was the president of his class. His first employment was with the North American Rayon Corporation in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He grew tired of the shift work and working conditions at NARC, and quit that job in 1952. After holding a couple of temporary jobs as a used car salesman and working in the Circulation Department of the Johnson City Press Chronicle, he became a full time carpenter. He worked for several construction contractors, and later became a Building Trades Instructor at Daniel Boone High School in Gray, Tennessee. During his life, he was an active member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Johnson City, and the Fairview Methodist Church in the Fairview Community near Jonesborough. He was the first Cubmaster for Pack 38, sponsored by the Calvary Presbyterian Church, and was instrumental in making their scouting program a success. He was active in community projects and church commitees in Fairview. One of his lasting legacies was his love for the outdoors, a love which he deeply instilled in all his children.

Bernice was born in Johnson County, TN on July 28, 1924, to the late Floyd and Mary Williams Snyder. She lived most of her life in Elizabethton and was a member of the First Christian Church in Elizabethton. Some of her favorite activities included quilting, sewing, and exercising.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl S. Austin, her brothers and sisters: Pauline Simcox, Juanita Lasater, John L. Snyder, Floyd Snyder Jr., and Yvonne McEwen.

Bernice is survived by her son Carl Samuel Austin, Jr. and wife Lee Anne, Colbert, GA; grandson Samuel Blake Austin and wife Bradley, Dalton, GA; granddaughters Elizabeth Anne Austin, Atlanta, GA; and Emily Marie Austin, Colbert, GA. Yvonne Snyder McEwen, 85, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2020 in the NHC Health Care Center, Johnson City. A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd & Mary Williams Snyder. Yvonne was a 1953 graduate of Johnson County High School. She had lived in Elizabethton for 64 years. She attended Happy Valley Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Pauline Simcox and Juanita Lassieter and two brothers: Floyd Snyder, Jr. and John L. Snyder.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years: Harold McEwen. Two Sons: Doug (Teresa) McEwen, Bowling Green, Kentucky and Steve (Paula) McEwen, Elizabethton. Four Grandchildren: Brandon McEwen, Brandon Sosa, Caleb Jones and Heather Jones. He Sister: Bernice Austin, Elizabethton. Several Nieces & Nephews.

I had the honor of meeting Mildred in the late 1990's. I will always be forever grateful to her for giving me the photo of William Harrison Williams and his family (ID 46). She also provided the information that William Harrison Williams changed his name to William Hodges when he was in the Tacoma, WA area. This was a major break through in my research. I could not have solved the mystery without Mildred's help.
She loved to watch any kind of sports from the Olympics to professional golf. When she was about 18, she became aware of a high sense of intuition.

James Monroe Timbs, age 73, of 2290 Dug Hill Road in Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Monday, November 11, 2013, at his home following an extended illness. He was born in Johnson County on January 8, 1940, to the late Ezekiel Amos Timbs and Lessie Ann Stout Timbs. In addition to his parents, his stepmother, Alma Arney Timbs, preceded him in death. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. He also found a great deal of enjoyment in gardening and tending to a variety of fruit trees. He was also a talented artist. His greatest enjoyment, however, came from the time he spent with his three grandchildren. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he enjoyed serving as a greeter every Sunday morning. He graduated from Johnson County High School in 1958 and he served four years in the United States Marine Corps from 1960-1964. During this time, he served aboard the U.S.S. Fremont, the U.S.S. Chilton and L.P.H. 8 aircraft carrier. He also spent 22 months stationed in Oahu, Hawaii. Upon returning to Johnson County in 1964, he accepted one of the first open positions at Iron Mountain Stoneware and worked there for many years. He retired from Film Processing Corporation in 1992. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Wanda Sue Cornett Timbs, of the home; two sons: David James Timbs and wife, Anne Peterson Timbs, of Mountain City, and Daniel Alan Timbs and wife, Chassie Brown Timbs, also of Mountain City; three grandchildren: Nathan David Timbs, Sidney Rebekah Timbs and Katelynn "Katie" Gladys Timbs; two brothers and one sister: Joe Timbs and wife, Betty, of Lenoir, North Carolina, Herman Timbs and wife, Betty, of Mountain City, and Lucille Brown and husband, Harvey, also of Mountain City. He is also survived by eleven nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 3390 Roan Creek Road, Mountain City, from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14. Services will immediately follow visitation with the Rev. Jim Norman and Rev. Scott Plyler officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church choir. Herman Timbs, age 69, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, following a lengthy illness. He was born on August 31, 1944, to the late Zeke and Lessie Stout Timbs. In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Timbs; and step mother, Alma Timbs. Herman loved football and was a fanatical Tennessee Vols Fan. He also enjoyed watching the Tennessee Titans and Dallas Cowboys. He worked for Burlington Industries for many years. Herman had also worked for the Johnson County Rescue Squad for many years. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing and working in his gardens. Herman was a member of Vaughts Gap Baptist Church. Ms. Roberts was born on August 9, 1940 to the late M.M. Stout and Ruth Norris Stout. In addition to her parents she was proceeded in death by four brothers; Billy Ray Stout, Rhonda Stout, J.R. Stout, and Jimmy Stout. Betty loved sewing, listening to bluegrass music and spending time with her grandchildren. She attended the Dyson Grove Baptist Church.

We are saddened to announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Vaught Stout, age 66, who passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 18, 2021. He was the son of the late Grady Vaught Stout and Ruby Faye McCulloch of Mountain City, TN. He was born on April 1, 1955. He was also preceded in death by his brother: Douglas Stout, and maternal grandparents Roby and Hassie Woodard.

Bob loved playing music, especially with his Nephew Grady and the Sandy Mountain Boys. He loved riding his Harley’s and he was the owner of Thunder Mountain Motorcross, he loved operating heavy equipment and there was not a single piece of equipment he didn’t excel on. Bob loved playing football and basketball in his younger years and watching it in his later years.

Bob was the owner of Bob Stout Construction, which he took much pride in, since 1986.

Those left to cherish his memories include his Mother Ruby Stout McCulloch; Fiancee: Becky Sewell; Daughter: Brandy (Chuck) Bennett;Nephew: Grady (Evelyn) Stout. Betty Lou Stout Cornett, 84 (Mimi to family and close friends), of Southern Pines, North Carolina, passed away on November 17, 2017 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Mimi was born January 19, 1933 in Mountain City, Tennessee to the late B.C. and Donnie Stout. She truly loved her family, and especially her great grandchildren. She always loved doing things for others and never wanted anything in return for herself; she enjoyed cooking and was an avid reader.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrose Cornett, and one sister, Mary Lee Vaughn.
She is survived by two children, Kathryn Cornett-Ulrich (Harry) and Sandra Corbetto-Cornett (Eduardo); four grandchildren, Matthew and Daniel Bower, Giovanni Corbetto and Chiara Cates (Corbetto); in addition, she is survived by five great grandchildren, Jackson, Kairi, Sebastian, Nicolas and Micaela. Mr. Dean L. Stout, age 78, of 1186 Stout Branch Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013, in the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
Dean was born on February 7, 1935, in Johnson County, Tennessee, to the late D.L. Snyder and Virginia Stout Coffey. He was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Dale Stout.
Dean was a member of Vaught's Gap Baptist Church and regularly attended the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church also. Dean enjoyed working with his backhoe and farming, especially working with his cattle.
Dean was a current Johnson County Commissioner, a former Circuit Court clerk for eight years and a United States Marine Corps Veteran.
He was a former member of the Roan Creek Masonic Lodge #679 F&AM in Butler, Tennessee, and a 32nd Degree Mason.
Survivors include: son, Michael L. and wife, Vicki A. Stout, of Mountain City, Tennessee; two sisters, Nancy Jacobs and husband, Alton, Mountain City, Tennessee, and Linda Arnold and husband, Terry, of Elizabethton, Tennessee; one brother, Tommy Coffey and wife, Linda, of Mountain City, Tennessee; grandchildren, Carli Stanley and husband, Justin, Hampton, Tennessee, and Calli Rae Smith, Mountain City, Tennessee. Martin Dean Walker, age 77, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 27,2012 at the Mountain City Care Center.

A native of Johnson County, Dean was born on October 9, 1934 to the late C.H. 'Herb'and Lynie Walker. In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Walker Monseur and brothers: Jack Walker, Charles F. Walker and Frederick D. Walker.

Dean enjoyed Nascar, roller skating, carpentry, history and spending time with his grandchildren. Dean worked with the Johnson County Highway Department for several years until his health declined. He was a member of First Baptist Church and recently had come to know Pastor Steven Spencer and the Calvary Baptist Church fellowship. Dean had served with the Johnson County Rescue Squad and was a United States Air Force Veteran. He will truly be missed by his family and all who knew him.

Dean is survived by his wife Clara FayeWalker; daughter, Ladeana Glenn of Gastonia, NC; Step-mother, Mattie G. Mrs. Floy Lee Millsaps Arnold, 66 of Vilas, died Friday morning, April 1, 2005 at Glenbridge Health Care Center in Boone.

She was born October 6, 1938 in the Bethel community of Watauga County, a daughter of Melvin and Georgia Walker Millsaps.

Mrs. Arnold was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was a licensed practical nurse at Blackwelder Hospital in Lenoir for 28 years and returned to Watauga County to work at Glenstone Nursing Home, now Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation where she worked for 17 years.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Jady Charles Arnold, her mother-in-law, a sister-in-law, two nephews, one niece, three aunts, and one uncle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Georgia Walker Millsaps. one son, Freddie Charles Arnold two brothers, Charles and Jack MIllsaps and two sisters, Lucille and Juanita Millsaps.

Services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Bethel Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Dan Rosser and Rev, Burl Greer. The body will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Millsaps Family Cemetery.

Mr. Bill Walker, age 58, of 272 Reece Hill Road, Mountain City, TN passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 at his residence. He was born January 3, 1958 to Hugh Walker and the late Kate Morefield, Walker. In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his late wife Delores Walker, and a sister, Debbie Brown. He was a 1978 graduate of J.C.H.S. and a member of Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed working on small engines and woodworking.

A funeral service for Bill Walker will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Shannon Courtner to officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Gambill Springs Cemetery.

JOHNSON CITY - Donna Rhea Cooper, age 58 of Johnson City, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord, on Thursday, May 9, 2019 in the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was the daughter of Hugh Edward Walker and the late Lena Kate Morefield Walker, born to them on August 2, 1960 in Mountain City, Tennessee. On June 16, 1978 she united in marriage to Jim Cooper and they had two loving daughters. She was a member of By-Faith Freewill Baptist Church of Johnson City. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her family, attending church, scrapbooking and cooking.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Kate Walker; Sister, Debbie Brown; Brother, Bill Walker; Father-in-law; Rev. Roy Cooper; Brother-in-law Raymond Sutphin and a niece, Robin Michelle.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jim Cooper; Daughters: Jessica (Mickey) Lyle and Bridgett (Scott) Wine; Sisters: Carol (Larry) Perkins, Dorothy (James) Brewer and Mona (Keith) Shatley; Brother: Wayne (Lecia) Walker; Grandchildren: Aaron Thornburg, Audrey Lyle and Aiden Lyle; Mother-in-law: Edna Cooper; Sisters-in-law: Jane Ann (Terry) Williams, Shirley Sutphin (Fransco Garland) and several nieces, nephews and relatives, left behind to cherish her memory.

Charles Robert 'Chuck' Walker, age 60, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday evening, January 12, 2017. He was born on March 31, 1956 to the late Robert Shanklin 'RS' Walker and Mary Gladys Woods Walker.

Chuck was a 1974 graduate of Johnson County High School. He had worked for Ernest Warren for many years and had also worked in various sawmills and at Burlington. He loved to be outdoors working and piddling. He enjoyed animals and had a special love for horses.

He was a member of Locust Gap Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memories include his sisters: Linnie F. Ronda Darrell Fair, age 82, died Friday, February 7, 2020 at his residence in Rainsville, Alabama. Ronda was born February 11, 1937 in Carter County and was the son of the late Luther J. and Thelma Crete Stout Fair.

Ronda was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Rainsville, Alabama.

He was a retired over the road driver with Roadway-YRC Freight Lines with a total of 29 years of service.

While driving for Roadway he received the Presidential Safety Award, the Mile Span Accident Free Award. He was also a Two Million Mile Achiever for Roadway.

Ronda was a 1955 graduate of Hampton High School and a veteran of the U S Navy. He loved to fish, and travel with his wife Margaret, especially after his retirement.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ellen Fair.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife; Margaret A. Dean Fair of the home, one daughter, Theresa (Robert) Akins of Ringgold, GA, two sons, Marcus Fair of Morristown, TN, and Benjamin Fair of Hampton, VA, a stepson, Jeff Dean, two step-daughters, Karen Selvage and Wanda Sue King, one brother, Richard (Dick) Fair and one sister, Rebecca (Beckie) Barr both of Elizabethton, two grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren.

A service to honor the life of Ronda Darrell Fair will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, February 10, 2020, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with friends and family members honoring Ronda’s life.

ELIZABETHTON - Richard Sherrill “Dick” Fair, age 82, of Elizabethton, died Thursday October 7, 2021 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Carter County on May 14, 1939 and was a son of Luther and Thelma Crete Stout Fair. Dick was a member of the Centerview Church of Christ and was a retired over the road truck driver for Roadway Express with 28 years of service. He was a 1957 graduate of Elizabethton High School. Prior to driving for Roadway Express, he was a dock supervisor for Mason and Dixon Freight Lines and was also a supervisor for the Polyester Plant of North American Rayon. He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge, #238 F and A M, a member of Knoxville Consistory of Scottish Rite and the Jericho Shrine Temple. He was a member of the Elizabethton Shrine Band and the Jesters of Jericho Temple. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Rhonda Fair.
He is survived by his son Rick Fair of Phoenix, Arizona, his sister, Rebecca Lou Fair Barr of Elizabethton, two grandchildren, Travis Fair and Curtis Fair, four great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Travis Jr., Julian and Iryiana, one niece and three nephews, his best friends Victor and Judy Deloach, a special friend Kathy McGee and numerous cousins.
A service to honor the life of Richard “Dick” Fair will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday, October 12, 2021, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Tony Hoss, Minister officiating. Music will be provided by Jerry Pierce soloist. Following the service Masonic rites will be accorded by the Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM.
The family will receive friends in the chapel of the funeral home from 5:00 Tuesday until the service hour.
Interment will be in the Garden of Freedom at Happy Valley Memorial Park

Rebecca Lou Fair Barr, 73, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton. She was the daughter of the late Luther Fair and Thelma Crete Stout Fair.
Rebecca was a member of Stoney Creek Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rickey Allen Barr; son, Greg Thomas Barr; and brothers, Ron Fair and Richard Fair.

Mr. Ricky Dean Collins, 57, of Johnson City, formerly of Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at his residence.
He was the son of Darlene Stout Collins, of Johnson City, and the late Gary Kyle Collins. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Lillie Stout; and his paternal grandparents, Eston and Maxine Collins.
Mr. Collins was a graduate of Unaka High School and attended Walters State Community College, where he played baseball. He started a career in law enforcement with the Carter County Sheriff's Department. He continued to work in law enforcement with the Elizabethton Police Dept., the ETSU Campus Police and the Johnson City Police Department, where he retired following thirty plus years of service. During his time at JCPD he worked with the Drug Task Force and the SWAT Team. After he retired, he returned to JCPD and was currently working as a training consultant.
He was also a former member of the Carter County Rescue Squad. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, A.Q.H.A, A.P.H.A, N.R.H.A. and the Liaison for the Tennessee Reining Horse Association.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of thirty years, Vicki Lee Collins, of the home; a sister, Kay Collins, Johnson City; a niece Seidena Malone and her husband, Josh, Johnson City; two great-nephews, Collin Nidiffer and Kayson Malone, both of Johnson City; a great-niece, Everly Malone, Johnson City; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Helen Lee.
The service to honor the life of Mr. Collins will be conducted on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. James Richardson and Chaplain Edward Jefferies officiating. Honor Guard will be provided by the Johnson City Police Department.
The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the service and at the home of his mother at other times.

Mrs. Linda Proffitt Hopkins, age 67, of West Jefferson died Wednesday morning, October 31, 2018 at her residence. Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 3:00pm at Bald Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. John Elledge officiating. Burial followed in the Bald Mountain Cemetery. The family received friends from 2:00-3:00pm on Sunday, November 4, 2018; one hour prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Hopkins was born in Butler, TN on August 24, 1946 to the late Bruce and Mavis Fletcher Proffitt. She worked as a sales clerk at Wal-Mart in West Jefferson. She had a passion for collecting Angels. She was a loving wife, mother and sister; she will be missed by all. She was also preceded in death by a son, Everette Wayne Lunceford; a brother, Jackie Proffitt and a sister, Dorothy Stanley

Mrs. Hopkins is survived by her husband, Allen Hopkins; three sons. Tim Hopkins and wife, Justine, of West Jefferson, Tony Hopkins, of West Jefferson and Anthony Hopkins, of West Jefferson; a daughter, Patricia Seagle and husband, Lance, of Fleetwood; a brother, Jerry Keith Proffitt, of Elizabethton, TN; four sisters, Norma Jean Eldreth, of Mountain City, TN, Beverly Jean Lowe, of Mountain City, TN, Judy Brockwell and husband, Donald, of Elizabethton and Nancy Matherly, of Elizabethton; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Lunceford; a special friend, Homer Shell; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
