    ELIZABETHTON — Mrs. Gladys Mae Taylor, 91, formerly of Taylor Town Road, Elizabethton, died on Thursday, December 20, 2007, in Life Care Center of Elizabethton.

    She entered Heaven's gates to be with her precious Savior. She was a sweet and loving Mother, Grandmother and friend to all.

    Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Mary Belle Deloach Winters; her husband, Elwood Taylor; two sons, Lloyd Ray Taylor, Clifford Taylor; one daughter, Charlotte Morton; one brother and one sister.

    Mrs. Taylor is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and W.C. Rasnick, Elizabethton, Frances (Otcie) and Fred Sluder, Elizabethton, Vickie and Wayne Barry, Mountain City, Jenny and Ernest Rosenbaum, Ringold, GA; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Douglas Taylor, Elizabethton, Kenneth and Barbara Taylor, Johnson City; one brother, Lloyd Winters, Elizabethton; seventeen grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a special friend, Gerald Clark of Life Care Elizabethton and several nieces and nephews.

    The funeral service for Mrs. Taylor will be conducted on Saturday, December 22, 2007, at 8:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel with Rev. Jackie Cole, Rev. Steve Burleson and Rev. Mike Robinson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Ms. Becky Darnell, soloist. The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Sunday, December 23, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 PM Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.

    Active pallbearers will be Jim Nave, Terry Oliver, Darrell Hardin, David Collins, Gary Rosenbaum and Mike Rosenbaum. Honorary pallbearers will be Lustus Woods, Jr., Richard Blevins and Gary Smith. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Saturday prior to the service and at the home of Diane Rasnick, 110 Little Avenue, Biltmore Community at other times.

    The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff, nurses and CNAs at Life Care Center of Elizabethton, especially Maxine, Kitty and Nina and to Caris Healthcare Hospice for all their help and concern for our Mother.

    Mr. Lloyd G. Winters, 89, formerly of 216 South Main Street, Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2009 at Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center following an extended illness.

    Mr. Winters was the son of the late Monroe and Mary Belle Deloach Winters and was a native of Carter County.

    In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jordan Winters, in 1986; a brother, Robert Winters; two sisters, Gladys Winters Taylor and Hazel Winters.

    Mr. Winters was a retired printer from E.T.S.U. and worked at Pressman's House in Rogersville. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in WWII. He was a member and elder of Memorial Presbyterian Church, Elizabethton.

    Mr. Winters is survived by two nephews, Steve Winters and his wife, Cindy, Ocean Springs, MS, and Gregory L. Winters and his wife, Sally, Vancouver, WA. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

    The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 17, 2009, from 1:00-2:30 PM at Tetrick Funeral Home Elizabethton. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM, following the visitation, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Dwight Basham officiating. Active pallbearers will be members of Memorial Presbyterian Church.

    Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Memorial Presbyterian Church, 100 East F Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.

    The family wished to express a special thank you to John Morrison and the staff of Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center and to Gregory C. Winters.

    Debbie Pearl Fletcher, age 80, of Elizabethton went home to be with her Lord on Monday, May 2, 2016 at her residence, following a brief illness. Pearl was a native of Carter County and was the daughter of the late Hamilton and Bessie Dugger Winters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ken Winters.

    Pearl was a former employee of Dr. John R. Crockett, III and was a homemaker. She was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church, a member of the Order of Eastern Star-Sycamore Chapter #163, and a member of the Red Hat Society. Pearl collected bells and enjoyed working in flowers, spending time with her family and friends, but most of all she loved her grandchildren.

    Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 55 years, Ralph A. Fletcher, of the home; two daughters, Anita Whitehead and husband Vince, of Johnson City and Donna G. Ward and husband Tim, of Watauga; a son, Michael Fletcher and wife Marcia, of Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Captain Brandon Whitehead, U.S. Air Force, stationed in Las Vegas, Nevada, Shaleia Whitehead, Jefferson City, TN, Carson Whitehead, Knoxville, TN, Stephanie Fletcher, Johnson City, TN Joy Fletcher, Elizabethton, TN and Connor Ward, Watauga, TN; three sisters, Charlotte Nave, Norma Smith and Judy Winters, all of Elizabethton, TN; two brothers, Robert Winters, of Elizabethton, TN and L.R. Winters, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A service to honor the life of Mrs. Pearl Fletcher will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 5, 2016 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Sherrel Nave and Rev. Kenneth Kyker, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday; or at her residence at any time.

    An Order of the Eastern Star memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 6, 2016 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, prior to the graveside service. Procession will follow.

    The graveside service will follow at 11:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Mark Chatman, officiating. Active pallbearers will be Vince Whitehead, Tim Ward, Carson Whitehead, Steven Waycaster, Raymond Birchfield, Junior Collazo and Carroll Mick. Honorary pallbearers will be Captain Brandon Whitehead and Gerald Buckles.

    The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Mountain States Hospice, the staff of Johnson City Medical Center, her friends and neighbors, Calvary Church in Boones Creek and Big Springs Baptist Church for the love shown to Pearl and her family.

    James Delmus Griffey, Jr. 65, 818 Walnut Street, Elizabethton, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at his residence following an extended illness.
    A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late James Delmus and Hazel Winters Griffey, Sr. Mr. Griffey was preceded in death by one son, James Monroe Griffey.
    He was a retired bus driver with Elizabethton City Schools.
    Survivors include his wife, Martha Bateman Griffey, of the home; two daughters: Sylvia and Heather Griffey, both of Elizabethton; one son, Steve Bateman, Elizabethton; one brother, Jerry Griffey, Elizabethton; one grandson, Shane Bateman, Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews.

    ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Kenneth F. Taylor, 71, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Taylor, a son of the late Elwood R. and Gladys Winters Taylor, was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Taylor, who lost his life fighting in the Vietnam War, and a sister, Charlotte Morton.

    Mr. Taylor was a 1963 graduate of Elizabethton High School and a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving two tours in Vietnam, receiving two Bronze Stars, the National Service Defense Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Ribbon with two Silver Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He also served three years with the Tennessee National Guard. He worked at Ed Morse Saturn-Cadillac in Tampa, FL, from 1997-2007, then at Bill Gatton Mountain Empire Saturn where he worked in sales until General Motors discontinued the Saturn Brand and he retired. He attended Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church and was also a member of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center. He also really loved his pets, Sam and Patches, enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and football.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of thirty-three years, Barbara A. Pierce Taylor, of the home; a brother, Conway (Doug) Taylor, Johnson City; four sisters, Vickie Barry and her husband, Wayne, Mountain City; Diane Rasnick, and her husband, W.C., Elizabethton; Frances Sluder and her husband, Fred, Elizabethton; Jenny Rosenbaum, Ringold, GA; and his special friends, Kent and Lisa Gunderson, Nashville, TN. Several nieces and nephews, including a special great-niece, Makenzie Miller, also survive.

    A graveside service for Mr. Taylor will be conducted at 10:00 AM, on Friday, March 24, 2017, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with Rev. Mark Potter and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Williams, Terry Barnett, Joe Caruso and John Barker. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend may join the family at the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. Friends may also call at the home at anytime.

    The family would like to express a heartfelt and sincere thank you to the doctors and nurses at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, and especially Dr. Tammy Taylor, for the care and compassion given to Mr. Taylor and the family, and to the members of the Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church.

    Vickie Lynn Barry, age 70, went home to be with the Lord on December 28, 2021. Vickie was born on January 2, 1951 to the late Elwood Taylor and Gladys Winters Taylor. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford Taylor, Kenneth "Shorty" Taylor and Doug "Conway" Taylor, as well as her sisters Jenny Rosenbaum and Charlotte Morton.
    Vickie was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and sister. She enjoyed traveling, camping, arranging flowers, and loved her dog, “Little Bit”. She loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great nieces and nephews. She was an active member of First Freewill Baptist Church.
    Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 51 years, Wayne Barry; daughter, Angela Davis and husband Brad; sisters, Diane Rasnick and husband WC, Francis Sluder; grandchildren, Conner and Collin Davis; several nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in law.
    The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastors Dan Foster and Greg Poe officiating. The burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2021 at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
