Mr. Tester was a native of Johnson County and was the son of the late Andrew and Rebecca Jackson Tester. He was employed by Clinchfield Railroad for 25 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Westview Freewill Baptist Church.

Mr. Tester was a native of Johnson County and a son of the late Stacy and Alice Mains Tester. He was a member of Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Dollie Triplett Tester, September 24, 1965, one son, Billy Glenn Tester, April 8, 1945; one daughter, Arlene Tester Burgess, July 7, 1999; two grandsons, Terry Marilock, May 1997, and D.C. Irene Pardue, age 82, of 919 Medical Park Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away Sunday, September 25, 2005 at the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Johnson County, Tennessee, Irene was born on December 6, 1922 to the late Robert Fayette Pardue and Ollie Belle Tester Pardue. In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by two sisters: Maude Lee Arnold and Lucille Dunn and six brothers; Walter, Paul, Hugh, Ulysses, Shelton and Bruce Pardue. She was a member of Roans Creek Baptist Church. Irene enjoyed her family, friends and taking care of others when needed.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and two sisters-in-law.
Funeral Services for Irene Pardue will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2005 from the Hux-Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Monroe Cooke to officiate. Maudlee Arnold, age 74, of 605 Claude Warren Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2004 at the Watauga Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Shouns, Tennessee, she was born on March 6, 1930 to the late Robert Fate Pardue and Ollie Belle Tester Pardue. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Ray Arnold; one sister, Lucille Dunn and five brothers, Hugh Pardue, Wiley Pardue, Paul Pardue, Walter Pardue and Bruce Pardue. Maudlee was a homemaker and a member of the Rainbow Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Arnold; three sons, Bobby Ray Arnold and wife Maxine, Eugene Arnold and wife Debbie and Mike Arnold and wife Donna; one sister, Irene Pardue, all of Mountain City, TN; one brother, Ulysses Pardue of Kennett Square, PA; eight grandchildren, Josh Arnold, Erick Arnold, Ethan Arnold, Brian Arnold and wife Lisa, Christie Atwood and husband Tracy, Phil Arnold and wife Wendy, Mike Essick, Jessie Essick and six great grandchildren, Kendra Arnold, Caden Arnold, Tracy Arnold, Dalton Atwood, Zack Arnold and Nate Arnold. Frances Eastridge, age 96, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 16, 2018. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hacker Eastridge, her parents, Lottie Tester Dunn and George Dunn, sisters Jane Hodge, Pauline Icenhour, Opal Woodward, Lynn Payne, Ann Drinnon, brother, Raymond Dunn and son-in-law, Dennis Burgess.

Survivors include her four children, Kate Burgess, Nancy Eastridge, Junior and wife, Patricia Eastridge, Patti Clark, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Special friends were Ann Pennington, Phyllis Rominger, Linda Pardue and Pastor David Hankal.

After retiring from Burlington Industries, Frances and Hacker enjoyed "taking trips" with family. Some of their favorite places to visit were Hungry Mother Park, Backbone Rock, Tweetsie, and Carowinds. They also loved to visit out of state relatives. After she became a widow in 1985, Frances joined Senior Citizens and enjoyed quilting and taking trips with them.

Frances was a member of Roan Creek Baptist Church and attended regularly as long as her health permitted. She enjoyed crafts such as sewing, quilting, crocheting and making dolls. In her later years, she loved to work word search puzzles. Frances loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were her pride and joy and she loved to spoil them.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, June 24, 2018 at 3pm in the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Hankal officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm – 3 pm prior to services at Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel. Graveside service and interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Active Pallbearers will be Johnny Eastridge, David Eastridge, Shane Snyder, Andrew Hensley, Bob Heck, and Willie Arnold. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Roan Creek Baptist Church.

She was born November 09, 1934 to the late Ira Tester and Minnie Ellen Gregg Tester. In addition to her parents she was proceeded in death by sister Coleen Rader, and brother Jim Tester. She was Valedictorian of the first nursing class thru Johnson County Memorial Hospital, her places of employment included Staff Nurse at Johnson County Memorial Hospital, Office Nurse with DR Fred Wampler, Dr Gary Hullquist, Charge Nurse Mountain City Nursing Home. Gordon House Elete home for adults, Staff Nurse Orange County Nursing Home, and Charge Nurse for Louisea Nursing home. She was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed Bird watching, and Flower Gardening.

Those left to cherish her memories include: her sons; Michael Gregg (Eva) Mtn City, TN. Jesse Gregg (Misty) Mtn City, TN. Terry Gregg (Faye) Butler, TN. Brother Bill Tester, Lorain, OH. 5 Grandchildren, & 7 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great, Great, Grandchildren, Special Friends Nichole Campbell, Anlou Price, Peggy Johnson, and Phyllis Lipford. Liz was born Sarah Elizabeth Tester to Claude Tester and Hazel Cannon Tester November 29th, 1937, in a cabin in Butler, Tennessee. She departed this life as a resident in Avenir Memory Care on October 19th, 2019.

Liz and her parents and sister lived in Butler until 1944 when they moved to Johnson City, TN, where Liz graduated from Science Hill High School in 1956 and went to Berea College, KY, on a nursing scholarship receiving her BSN in nursing in June 1960.

Liz served as a nurse in many venues during her 42 years of service, including an instructor in two nursing schools, teaching Okinawan nurses for two years, being a public health nurse, a psychiatric nurse, and a certified substance abuse counselor. She had a mission circle named after her by her home Baptist Church and was ordained Elder by Hopwood Christian Church in Johnson City.

Liz is survived by her husband of 59 years, Vance Penley Davis; her three sons, Jeffrey Neil Davis, born in Berea, KY, Gregory Litton Davis, born on Okinawa, and Thadd Alan Davis, born in Charleston, SC. ; her sister, Frankie Anne Tester of Naples, FL; her daughters-in-law, Billie Davis, and Kelley Edge Davis; Grandchildren, Sarah Caitlin Rueff, William Penley Davis, Darius Fragopoulos Davis, 'Hristina Belle Davis, and Evelyn Isabel Davis, and great-granddaughter Aya Laclaira Vanlandingham.

Liz loved gardening and raised many flowers and bushes around her houses. She loved animals and raised and cared for many dogs and cats. She loved to travel and hike and take pictures. She was a singer, being part of quartets, choirs and soloists, especially in church.

It was Liz's wish to be cremated. A memorial service to honor her memory will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 9, 2019, in the Hopwood Christian Church, 109 Hopwood Lane, Milligan College, TN 37682.

She was a native of Washington County and was a daughter of the late Cliner and Myrtle Ford Tester. Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and was a member of the Keystone Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold J. Foster and her second husband, Bill Miller; also several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her two sons, Harold Foster Jr. and his wife, Sandra of Gate City, Virginia and Michael L. Foster of Jonesborough; his grandchildren, Michael T. Born in Gray, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Callie Dowell Hamby.

She was a loving wife and mother who dedicated her life to her husband and children. She was a very caring person to everyone who met her.

Kathleen Potter Hatley Hodges, 87, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, at her residence.

She was born to the late David Carter Potter and Hattie McElyea Potter in the old town of Butler, TN. At the age of 12, their family home was taken when the Watauga Lake was built. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hodges.

She was known as a sweet, generous, kind, loving woman who loved her family. She worked very hard in her life, raising eight children during hard times. She, however, considered herself a blessed person. She loved to bake, decorate and clean her home. Kathleen also had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing gospel songs and going to church. Most of all, she loved her Lord.

Kathleen worked at the Glove Plant in Mountain City, the IRC/TRW in Boone, NC, and the Chetola Resort, Blowing Rock, NC.

Kathleen was preceded in death by seven sisters; Ethel, Eula, Mildred, Doris, Ruth, Betty and Dorothy; three brothers, Bud, Marion, and James. She was first married to Clifford Dan Hatley "Buckeye Hatley." They had eight children: Betty, Gary, Michael (Wuzzy), Susie, Janice, Kathy Jo, Randy and Denny. She later married Roy Hodges and had one stepson Kelly Hodges from Foscoe, NC. She had 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and great great great grandchildren.

A Service to Celebrate the life of Kathleen will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, TN with Rev. Ray Greene and Pastor Eric Cornett officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service.

A graveside service and interment will follow at the Happy Valley Memorial Park.

Clyde was a veteran of the US Army and served in WWII.
He was a retired carpenter. Clyde was a member of the Wm W. Fahey Post 491 American Legion, Kennett Square. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, watching Eagle football games and NASCAR.
He is survived by one son, Allen C. Mains, Jr. (Evelyn) of Landenberg; one daughter, Sherry Potter (Donald) of Lincoln University; two grandchildren, Donald Potter, Jr. (Jeannie), and Tina Pairo (Larry); and four great-grandchildren, Timmy, Shelby, Alexis, and Donny.
He was preceded in death by two brother, William Mains and Charles Mains.

She was born April 10, 1938 in Mountain City, Tennessee to the late William Claude Tester and Dottie Mae Triplet Tester. She enjoyed cooking, bird watching and gardening. She attended First Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brother, Bob Tester; sisters, Margie Trivette, Christine Morelock, Ella Jean Lewis and Arlene Burgess.

Her survivors include two daughters, Winola Perkins (Terry) and Ginger Norris both of Mountain City. Rev. Raleigh Mack Arnold Sr., age 78, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went on to be with the Lord Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born August 21, 1940 in Mountain City, Johnson County, TN to the late Raleigh Duff Arnold and Nellie Rhea Tester Arnold. In addition to his parents Mack was preceded in death by a baby sister Alice.

Mack was a pastor for 33 years at the Porters Grove Baptist Church in Conowingo, MD where he retired. After he retired he returned to Mountain City, TN where he did pulpit fill-ins and revivals for the remainder of his life. He was in the pulpit filling in at Antioch Baptist 2 weeks prior to his death. He loved the Lord, his family and was well respected. Mack loved to fish, hunt and enjoyed Ginseng and wild egg hunting as well. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten or equaled. In his ministry there were over 2,000 souls saved.

Alma Justine (Pardue) Sala passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born on November 13, 1938 to the late Paul and Frances (Canter) Pardue. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Don Sala; sister, Carol Pardue; brother, Butler Pardue and his wife, Pat Pardue; father-in-law, William Sala; mother-in-law, Mary Sala; brothers-in-law Barry Fyock and John Sala; daughter-in-law, Mary (Dixon) Sala.

Alma was a member of the Mountain City Church of Christ. Her family moved from Mountain City to Pennsylvania in the 1960’s. While living there, she met and married Don Sala. They were blessed to enjoy 50 years of marriage. They returned to Mountain City in 1970, where she lived for the rest of her life.

Alma loved going for rides in the country, working word search puzzles, and sitting on the back porch in her rocker, watching the cattle and horses. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ and her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. SODDY DAISY — Butler Dean Pardue, 74, of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 29, 2016, surrounded by his family.

He was a member of the North Hamilton Church of Christ. Butler was a United States Army Veteran. He was an avid sports fan who loved his Braves and his Tennessee Vols; he also loved bluegrass and loved to sing. Butler loved to be around family and friends and loved to make them laugh. He was always happy and he will be sadly missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Eustice Pardue; his father, Paul Pardue; his mother, Frances Pardue and a sister, Carol Sue Pardue.

John Kenneth Eisenhower, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 in Johnson City, TN. John was born on November 29, 1932 to the late Joseph and Mary Eisenhower. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Ruth and Betty and brother, George.

John was a lifelong resident of Johnson County who loved being outdoors, fishing, and hunting. He was a kind-hearted family man and a great example of a husband and father. He enjoyed giving everyone nicknames and he was lovingly nicknamed “Jart”. He had a special love for Sunset Beach, NC, and the wonderful seafood. He also loved gardening, Andy Griffith Show, Gunsmoke, and celebrating his favorite holiday, Christmas.

Michael Thurston Gregg went home to forever be with our LORD on December 8, 2022, at 2:45 pm. Michael has been a believer and served God since he was nine years old. Michael loved to sing, and he led the youth choir at a local church for many years. He also sang and played the banjo with several bluegrass gospel groups. He taught Sunday School class for the young adults for many years. He currently helped lead a congregation at Olive Branch Fellowship, where he led discussion of the word of God for several years. His main purpose in life was to serve the Almighty Creator God through the accepting of eternal salvation through Yeshua Jesus the Messiah and loving others as he loved himself which he did selflessly. He served his country in the United States Air Force in Vietnam and Thailand as a young man. After his time serving in the military, he chose Information Technology as a lifelong career. He retired from Christian Medical and Dental Association where he served as IT Director, after 22 years. Michael was devoted to his family and was a loving, caring, and devoted husband to his wife Eva Johnson Gregg for 45 years. They have one son, Aaron Thurston Gregg and wife Rebecca. Two grandchildren Eleazar Michael Gregg and Sarah Rebecca Gregg. One foster son, Justin Lamar Johnson, wife Faith and daughter Zoey. Two brothers, Jesse Gregg and wife Misty; Terry Gregg and wife Faye. Honorable mention; Mother-in-law, Olive Johnson and sisters-in-law, Reba Potter, Judy Wallace and JoAnn Eller. Roy Lee Tester, age 71, of Bristol, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at his residence. Roy was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late James Clyde Tester and Elva Irlene Dugger Tester. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Branch and Debbie Stout; one brother, James Michael Tester; and one grandson, Tyler Bowers.

Roy had worked as a Class AA Machinist and was of the Baptist faith. He was a United States Army veteran.

Anthony Burton Tester Sr., Happy Valley Road, Johnson City, Tenn., passed away on January 26, 2022, at the age of 73. Burt was a lifelong fire prevention sprinkler fitter and was born December 9, 1948 to the late James Clyde Tester and Elva Arlene Dugger Tester. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, including Roy L. Tester, Michael James Tester and Fredrick P. Tester; sisters, Norma J. Tester Harrison, Deborah A. Tester Stout and Doris M. Tester Branch; a grandchild, Ema Jane Marie Tester; children, Sheri Campbell and James Campbell.
Anthony was of the Christian faith and attended Pinecrest Christian Church. He loved to cook and spend time with his family. He loved those around him and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was very mechanically inclined and able to fix anything that needed repaired. He always found a way to make it happen.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna Tester; children, Sherry Tester, Anthony B. Tester Jr., Christopher Maston Tester (Tracey Nicole), Patrick Thomas Tester of Coshocton, Ohio, Joel A. Norma was born in Carter County to the late James Clyde Tester and Elva Arlene Dugger Tester. In addition to her parents, Norma was also preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Branch and Deborah Arlene Tester Stout; and three brothers, Fred Paul Tester, Michael Tester and Dallas Tester.
Norma retired from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in the Dietary Department. She was of the Christian faith and loved going to yard sales and shopping, plants and animals.
Those left to cherish Norma’s memory include her son, Fred Harrison of the home; and two sisters, Linda Tester and Rose Branch both of Johnson City, TN. Several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

JONESBOROUGH - Frederick Paul Tester, age 50, of Jonesborough, went to be with his Lord on October 29, 2018, at his home after a battle with stomach cancer. He was born in Elizabethton, TN to James and Elva Tester and was the youngest of ten children.

Fred, a great believer in family and responsibility, went to work at an early age as a pipefitter to help support his mother after his father's death. After many years of dedicated service, he rose to the position of crew foreman finishing his career with East Tennessee Sprinkler. Fred will be remembered as a caring and loving husband to Paula for 21 years and father to 14-year-old Shelby. A family man who was always there when needed.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, brothers' Dallas and Michael, and sisters' Doris Branch and Debbie Stout.

JOHNSON CITY - Judy Hamby Carr, 75, of Johnson City, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Four Oaks Health Care. She was a native of Johnson City and daughter of the late Wiley and Mayme Ruth Head Hamby. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband, James Leonard Carr.

Those left to cherish Judy's memory include her son, Scott Lee Beaver and his wife Melody, grandson, Nicholas Montgomery, her brother, Ronnie, and sister, Linda, several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will greet friends to share memories on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from 11:00 am until a Celebration of Judy's life at 1:00 pm in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City with Pastor Estel Williams officiating. A Graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm on Wednesday at Carr Cemetery in Watauga Flats. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Gary Dan Hatley, 55, 154 Sarah Anna Drive, Johnson City, was escorted by the Angels into the hands of God at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009, in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a Carter County native. He was employeed by GDS Waste Management in Boone, North Carolina for 22 years. He was a member of the Sugar Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Chris, his father Clifford "Buckeye" Hatley and his best friend and brother Michael. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his mother and step-father with whom he made his home, Kathleen Potter Hatley Hodges and Roy Reece Hodges. Four Sisters: Betty Hatley, Johnson City, Glenda Smith, Boone, NC, Kathy Jo Phillips, Vilas, North Carolina and Janice Shephard, Elizabethton. Two Brothers: Randy Hatley and Denny Hatley. Two Grandchildren: Dustin & McKinsey Hatley, Several Nieces & Nephews and Uncles.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ray Greene officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Lakeview Cemetery. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 12 Noon Friday will be: Jim Phillips, Travis Phillips, Donnie Fletcher, Buddy Bowling, Shaun Shepard and Chad Allen.

Patsy Ann Mains Chappell went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 12, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born on November 21, 1948 to the late William S. and Betty A. Mains. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert (Bob) Mains and son, Robert Shawn Boudle.

Survivors include her brother William (Billy) Mains of Maryland, her children, Shannon K. Clark, Stephanie A. Clark, Steven E. Chappell, and Kristy N. Perry/Presnell and husband, Norman Presnell.
Grandchildren include Trevor Clark, Tayla Clark, Caleb Boudle, Ciera Poteet and husband, Jason, Alton Clark, Colby Clark, Palara Clark, Darren Chappell, Bryce Chappell, Peyton Perry, Ryleigh Perry, Kynnedi Perry, Corbin Presnell, and Pacey Presnell. Great-grandchildren include Rhett Poteet and Memphis Poteet.

Special family and friends include but not limited to Ms. Darlene Tester, not only a cousin but Patsy’s best friend. They had many adventures together from early childhood right up to the time of her sickness. We are grateful for the love and support she gave to our mother.

A special thanks to her niece Codi Pass and Jason Pass for all their love and support and a special thanks to Shohn Perry.

A special thanks to Vicki Chappell Stout and husband Michael Stout, along with Calli and Carli, and Frankie and Bobbie Chappell and family, for their continued support and will always be our sister and brother, thank you for what you have been through with us. We love you dearly.

A special thank you to her cousin Everett Reece who called, continually prayed for her, and checked on her continuously.

There are so many people who helped and we thank all of you and sorry if we have missed your names. We send our sincere appreciation and love. Thanks to Hospice, Joanie, Laura, and especially Gail.

Patsy loved mowing her yard and planting flowers and especially her bird houses and feeding the birds. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and loved spending time with family, friends, and was always trying to help others. She was a strong woman her whole life and provided for and always made her family a number one priority. Patsy, you will be greatly missed and always loved and will be forever in our thoughts and hearts.

Robert Joseph “Bob” Mains, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at his home. Bob was born on February 7, 1954 to the late William and Betty Mains in Mountain City, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Hunter Mains and Alexia Mains.
Bob was an avid collector of Indian artifacts. He also enjoyed caring for his pet birds and taking care of his flowers. He loved his family and adored his granddaughter, Savannah.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Codi Pass and husband Jason; son, Joseph Mains; sister, Patsy Chappell; brother, William Mains; grandchildren, Savannah Mains, Sawyer Mains; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a graveside service held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Phillippi Cemetery with Pastor Greg Thompson and Pastor Berry Dunn officiating. Pallbearers will be Steven Chappell, Darren Chappell, Norman Presnell, and Dale Potter. Honorary pallbearers will be Trevor Clark, Caleb Boudle, and Jack Arnold.
