I, J. W. Snyder, do make and publish this as my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and making void all others by me at any time made.

First. I give to A. F. Snyder and wife Mary Snyder, the home tract of land containing 140 acres formally owned by R. M. Snyder.

Secondly. I give to R. M. Snyder and wife Alice Snyder, all the land from A., F. Snyder's line to R. L. Bowmans line on the North side of Roans Creek.

Third. I give to Dan Snyder all the land I possess on the South side of Roans Creek.

Fourth. I give the Robinson tract of land to be sold and the money equally divided between J. L. Snyder, W. W. Snyder, and the two heirs of J. D. Snyder, shall have equally J. D. Snyder's share.

Fifth. After all my debts are paid the money and personal property that is left shall be equally divided between all my children.

William D. Snider Passes on Saturday

William David Snider, a resident of Corvallis for the past 30 years, passed away in a local hospital Saturday night following a long illness.

The son of John and Rachel Vaught Snider, he was born at Butler, Tenn. on August 19, 1866. He received his education at the Butler college after which he taught in the country schools near there for some time. In 1890 he came to Roseburg, where he was employed by the Southern Pacific as a bridge carpenter. On July 4, 1892 he was married to Irene Tompkins at Roseburg. The couple made their home on a farm near Roseburg until 1914 when they came to Lebanon where Snider was again employed by the S.P. as a carpenter. In 1922 the family came to Corvallis where he was employed as construction foreman for the Corvallis Lumber company until his retirement in 1938.

He was a member of the Baptist church of Corvallis and of the I.O.O.F. for more than 60 years.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Aaron, Hermiston; Harold, Portland; Walter, San Fernando, Calif.; Paul, Coquille; two daughters, Mrs. Wilbur [Eva] Sausen, Corvallis; Mrs. E.E. [Gladys] Timmeron [Timmerman], Lincoln, California; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in the Warner-McHenry Funeral Home Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. with Reverend Rodney Gould officiating. Interment will be at Oaklawn Memorial Park with the Corvallis Odd Fellows in charge of commital services.

...93, Reese, North Carolina, died Sunday morning, June 11 at his home. He had been failing in health for some time. He was the son of the late John B. and Rachel Vaught Snyder of Butler.
He was a retired farmer of Watauga County, and a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Oscar Snyder, Maryville, Howard Snyder, Baltimore, Md., and Jacob Smith Snyder, Jr., Sugar Grove, N.C.; eight daughters, Mrs. Mollie Wilson, Reese, N.C., Burley Snyder, Lexington, Ky., Mrs. Hattie Lecks, Mont., Mrs. Russell Bass, Maryville, Mrs. Myrtle Arnold, Neva, Mrs. Nealon Bass, Cleveland, O., Mrs. Orville Slemp, Mountain City, and Mrs. Norva Kirby of the home; also 34 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Beaver Dam Church with Rev. Carl Wilson and Rev. Wagner Reece in charge. Interment was in Beaver Dam cemetery.

Wade W. Snyder, age 102, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017.

He was born November 23, 1914 in Johnson County, TN to the late J. L. Snyder and Daisy Pierce Snyder. In addition to his parents Wade was preceded in death by his wife Lucy E. Cowan Snyder, son-in-law, Jim Proffitt, three sisters, and five brothers. Wade was the oldest member of Baker's Gap Baptist Church where he led the choir for many years and was a trustee. He loved his family and will truly be missed. He believed that "to have friends, you must show yourself as a friend"

Wade is survived by his daughters, Charlotte Dugger and husband David of Butler; Barbara Proffitt of Yadkinville, NC and Lucille Stewart and husband Larry of Niceville, FL; son, Larry Snyder and wife Elaine of Newport Richey, FL; brother, Ernest Snyder and wife Doris of Unicoi, TN; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday June 13, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. from Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 7:30 p.m. with Pastors Dennis Peterson and James Richardson to officiate. Graveside service and burial will be 11:00 am Wednesday June 14, 2017 from the Snyder Family Cemetery (Big Dry Run Rd.). Pallbearers will be grandsons.

UNICOI - Ernest Snyder, age 95, of Unicoi, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at his home.

Ernest is a native of Butler and a son of the late John and Daisy (Pierce) Snyder. He is a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, Trustee and Treasurer. Ernest was an Accounting Clerk with the railroad until he retired. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of Centennial Lodge # 491 in Erwin. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed woodworking, gardening and cooking and was very devoted to his family, country and God. In addition to his parents, Ernest is preceded in death by ten siblings and three grandchildren.

Ernest Snyder has left behind to cherish his memory: Wife: Doris Snyder, of Unicoi; Sons: Ronnie Snyder and wife, Janie, of Unicoi, Terry Snyder and wife, Laura, of Marietta, GA; Daughter: Delores Chaffin, of Johnson City; Grandchildren: Lisa, Debbie, Vickie, Angela, Clinton and Sarah; Several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

ELIZABETHTON - Bernice Snyder Austin, 98, Elizabethton, TN passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022. Bernice was born in Johnson County, TN on July 28, 1924, to the late Floyd and Mary Williams Snyder. She lived most of her life in Elizabethton and was a member of the First Christian Church in Elizabethton. Some of her favorite activities included quilting, sewing, and exercising.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl S. Austin, her brothers and sisters: Pauline Simcox, Juanita Lasater, John L. Snyder, Floyd Snyder Jr., and Yvonne McEwen.

Bernice is survived by her son Carl Samuel Austin, Jr. and wife Lee Anne, Colbert, GA; grandson Samuel Blake Austin and wife Bradley, Dalton, GA; granddaughters Elizabeth Anne Austin, Atlanta, GA; and Emily Marie Austin, Colbert, GA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as good friends, Cathy Ross and Ronnie Snavely.

The graveside service and entombment will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Monday, December 5, 2022 in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Michael Klaus officiating.

Yvonne Snyder McEwen, 85, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2020 in the NHC Health Care Center, Johnson City. A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd & Mary Williams Snyder. Yvonne was a 1953 graduate of Johnson County High School. She had lived in Elizabethton for 64 years. She attended Happy Valley Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Pauline Simcox and Juanita Lassieter and two brothers: Floyd Snyder, Jr. and John L. Snyder.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years: Harold McEwen. Two Sons: Doug (Teresa) McEwen, Bowling Green, Kentucky and Steve (Paula) McEwen, Elizabethton. Four Grandchildren: Brandon McEwen, Brandon Sosa, Caleb Jones and Heather Jones. He Sister: Bernice Austin, Elizabethton. Several Nieces & Nephews.

JOHNSON CITY - Jason Worley Snyder, 106, Johnson City, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Hillview Health Center in Elizabethton.

Jason was born on August 4, 1910 to the late Roy Mineyard and Mary Alice Grindstaff Snyder.

Jason grew up in the Valley Forge Community in Carter County, TN. He graduated from the elementary school in that community and the Elizabethton High School in Elizabethton, TN. He received his B.S. Degree from East Tennessee State Teacher's College and taught elementary and high school in Carter County for five years prior to volunteering for the Army/Air Force in July 1942. His military service was for three and one half years. He served as Technical Specialist Staffing and Personnel Management in the 12th Air Force Service Command in North Africa and Italy. Jason was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant on December 24, 1945. At his death, he was the oldest WWII veteran in the state of TN.

After leaving the service, Jason secured employment with the Veterans Administration as a Training Officer. He lived in Knoxville until 1954, when he transferred to the Veterans Administration Central Office in Washington, D.C., where he worked for two years as a Paper Management Analyst. He transferred from the V.A. to the Navy in Washington, D.C., where he worked in various departments of the Navy until his retirement from the Navy Sea Systems command on December 31, 1977. While working in D.C. he lived in Alexandria, V.A. and was a member of National City Christian Church in Washington, D.C., where he served as a Deacon, Elder and on various committees as a Laymen.

Jason became a Master Mason on July 26, 1946 at Dashiel Lodge #238, F.&A.M. in Elizabethton, TN. He affiliated with Alexandria-Washington Lodge #22, A.F. &A.M. and proudly served as its master in 1979. Jason is also a Royal Arch mason, Knights Templar, Past commander of Old Dominion Commandery #11, Past Patron of Martha Washington Chapter #42, O.E.S., and Venerable Master of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Alexandria, VA.

Jason was an honorary member of the B.E. Wooton class-super Excellent Mason since November 6, 1957.

He has an Honorary and Permanent Life Memberhsip of the Jericho Shrine Temple, A.S.O.N.M.S. of Kingsport, TN. He was an honorary member of Rhea Lodge in Jonesborough, TN. On November 20, 1993, he was honored with the Illustrious Thirty-Third Degree of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Knoxville, TN, where he was a member. He was presented his 50-year pin by the Scottish Rite on August 4, 2014. He was presented a plaque on August 4, 2016 for his 70 years of faithful service to the Masonic order by the Worshipper Grand Master of the state of VA.

He moved to Johnson City in 1980, where he married his second wife, Frances. They worshiped at Central Baptist Church and he was a member of William Rigell Sunday School.

Jason made Colonial Hill Retirement Center his home for 12 years until he moved to Hillview Health Center in July 2016.

In addition to his parents, Jason was preceded in death by: his first wife, Viola Wilson Synder, from 1949 until she passed away in 1973; his second wife, Frances Shoun, from 1980 until she passed away in 2007; two sisters, Wanda Elliot and Hazel Bashor; three brothers, W.D. (Doc) Snyder, Maywood Snyder, and Dudley Snyder.

Survivors include: one step-daughter, Sandra Shoun, of Arlington, VA; one step-grandson, Brandon Curry, of Arlington, VA; one sister, Myrtle Taylor, of Johnson City, TN; three brothers, Ben Snyder, of Mountain City, TN, Floyd Snyder and his wife Joann, of Elizabethton, TN, John Snyder and his wife Ethel, of Elizabethton, TN; sister-in-law, Gladys Snyder, of Johnson City; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and special great-great nice, Marlei Snyder, of Johnson City, TN; and several cousins in KY, CA, and TN that have kept in close contact.

JOHNSON CITY - Hazel Snyder Bashor, 97, Johnson City died Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Appalachian Christian Village. Mrs. Bashor was born January 24, 1918 in Doeville, Johnson County, Tennessee. She was a daughter of the late Roy Mineyard and Alice Snyder. One year later she moved to Valley Forge in Carter County. She attended Valley Forge Elementary, Elizabethton High School, and Teachers College in Johnson City where she received a permanent teaching certificate in elementary education. On August 19, 1942 she married Paul Erwin Bashor. Mrs. Bashor taught school in Carter County and the Elizabethton School System. In 1944 she joined her Navy husband in Washington, D.C. where they both worked for the OSS until his discharge on November 11, 1945. She returned to Elizabethton and lived there until moving to Johnson City in 1953. In 1957 they built Paul's Bait Shop and the Cadillac Motel. In 1962 they purchased the Rio Motel, which is now Paul's Mall on Roan Street. Mrs. Bashor was a member of Central Baptist Church and Seekers Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Senior Center of Johnson City, Appalachian Christian Village, and The Greeters with the Shrine Center of Kingsport. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Paul Erwin Bashor; three brothers, Dudley Snyder, Maywood Snyder, and Watson Snyder; and a sister, Wanda Elliot. She is survived by: one son, Michael Bashor; one grandson, Paul Erwin Bashor; five siblings, Jason Worley Snyder, of Johnson City, Myrtle Taylor of Johnson City, Ben Snyder of Mountain City, Floyd Ray Snyder, of Elizabethton, and John D. Snyder of Elizabethton. The family of Hazel Bashor will receive friends from 10:30 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. W. Ben Snyder, age 91, of Mountain City, TN passed Monday, April 3, 2017 in Mountain City Care Center. He was born July 4, 1925 to the late R.M. Snyder and Mary Alice Grindstaff Snyder. He was a member of Doe Valley United Methodist Church and he enjoyed fishing and gardening. Ben was also a member of Taylorsville 243 F & AM.

Floyd Ray Snyder, 91, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019, at Hillview Health Center. He was the son of the late Roy Mineyard Snyder and Mary Alice Grindstaff Snyder and was born in Elizabethton on January 2, 1928. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Hoss Snyder; six brothers, Jason Worley Snyder, Watson "Doc" Snyder, Maywood Snyder, Dudley Snyder, Roy Mineyard Snyder Jr. and Ben Snyder; and two sisters, Hazel Basher and Wanda Elliott.
Floyd was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in World War II. He was a faithful member of Big Springs Church of Christ. He worked for 28 years at North American Rayon Corporation and retired as a Supervisor at the ETSU Post Office.
Floyd was a 50-plus year member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge #283, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and a member of the Jericho Shrine Temple. He loved woodworking and working in his yard and garden.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 24 years, Jo Ann Hyder Snyder, of the home; one brother, John D. Snyder and wife Ethel of Elizabethton; one sister, Myrtle Taylor of Johnson City; two step-sons, Joseph E. Rutter of Elizabethton and James T. Rutter of Hawaii; two step-grandsons, Joseph E. Rutter II of Elizabethton and James T. Rutter II of Hawaii; several step-great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Chase Nelson of Johnson City. MOUNTAIN CITY — Alex Snyder, age 94, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

He was born on March 12, 1922, to the late Noah and Ollie Martin Snyder. In addition to his parents, Alex was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Nave Snyder, who passed away on January 23, 2012; sisters, Eureka Grindstaff and Susie Kimberlin; and brothers, Martin Snyder, D.L. Snyder, Robert Snyder and Sanford Snyder. Like most men of his generation, Alex was a proud American Farmer but his true love was carpentry work. He was an avid Atlanta Braves and TN Vols fan. Alex loved his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren beyond measure and he always had time for his family. He was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Anne Eureka Snyder Grindstaff, age 89, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Mountain City Care Center, Mountain City, Tennessee after a lengthy illness. She was born in Johnson County on January 18, 1925 to the late Noah Snyder and Ollie Martin Snyder.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, C. Robert (Bob) Grindstaff; one sister, Susie Kimberlin and four brothers, Martin, D. L., Robert, and Sanford Snyder.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen (Danny) Cunningham and Deana (Larry) Shoun; two sons, Joe Eric and Jerry Grindstaff; one brother, Alex Snyder; sister-in-law, Pearl G. Snyder; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Eureka was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (Shouns community) and served as Sunday school teacher for four-five year olds for more than 20 years. She was a supervisor at the Leco Mfg. Co. for approximately 8 years and was a teacher assistant and substitute teacher for several years.

A receiving of friends will be held 1:30 P.M. – 2:30 P.M. on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 3385 Roan Creek Rd., Mountain City, with the funeral service to follow at 2:30 P.M. Services will be conducted by Rev. Warren Stewart and Rev. Jim Norman with music provided by Elaine Moore, Donna Fritts and Joe Simcox. BRUCE C. VAUGHT, age 74 years of Airville, Pennsylvania died at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2005 at York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania. He was the husband of Reba Kate (Stout) Vaught. They observed their 52nd wedding anniversary on June 20, 2005. Mr. Vaught was born on September 15, 1930 in Mountain City, Tennessee; he was a son of the late Jacob Raymond and Gertrude (Cole) Vaught.

He was a Korean Conflict veteran of the United States Army. Moving from Delaware, he had resided in lower York County for the past forty-seven years. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Horticulture and was a member of the Alpha Zeta Fraternity. Mr. Vaught was a member of the Lions Club, a member of the Red Lion Area School Board, and had served for the past ten years as a Lower Chanceford Township Supervisor. He was the store manager for the Southern States - Whiteford, Maryland location for over thirty-five years. He was a member of the Pine Grove Presbyterian Church in Airville, Pennsylvania. He was an avid bowler and coin collector.

Alice was a 1950 Graduate of Johnson County High School. She loved to work with flowers and all types of crafts. Alice also enjoyed working alongside her husband, Herbert, on their farm. She was a member of Big Laurel Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and helped with Bible School for many years.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Herbert Joines; daughters and son-in-law: Diana and Dennis Pennington of Mountain City, TN and Deborah Joines of Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters: Naomi Smith of Memphis, TN and Mildred Lowe of Mountain City, TN; sisters-in-law: Nannie Vaught, Kate Vaught, Mary Lee McCoy, JoAnn Arnold and husband Leavie and Viola Joines; brother-in-law, Charlie Joines and wife Judy; special friend, Lois Greer and several nieces and nephews.

Peggy Jean Snyder Hodges went to be at home with the Lord on the morning of Sunday, June 13, 2021, surrounded by her family.

Peggy was born October 18, 1934, in Butler, TN, the firstborn of Elbert H. and Alice Reece Snyder. She attended Mary Hughes School. At the age of 16, she married her lifelong sweetheart, Graham Hodges, of Piney Flats. Their marriage endured for over 68 years, until Graham’s passing just 16 months ago.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Dean Snyder, and her sister Betty Snyder Bennett, and sister-in-law Judy Snyder.

She is survived by her three children: Rondy Lynn Hodges and wife Diana, Linda Kay Hodges Smith and husband, Larry, and Mark Edward Hodges and wife Vickie. Peggy adored her 11 grandchildren: Alan Hodges (April), Spencer Hodges, Tyler Hodges (Samantha), Mackenzie Hodges Moore (Philip), Amy Lynn Coppedge, Daniel Smith (Vanessa), Sarah Smith King (Jonathan), Geoffrey Smith (fiancé Lindsey), Jaime Hodges Johnson (Steven), Riley Hodges Sturgill (Jeremiah), step-grandson Joseph Hurley (Lauren). Her 11 great grandchildren are Allison Hodges, Kaylyn and Ryne Smith, Allison and Josiah Johnson, Pelegren and Theodore Sturgill, Elizabeth Hodges and baby brother to be born in August, Izabella and Olivia Hurley. She is also survived by her brother, Joe Snyder, sister-in-law Laura Snyder, brother-in-law Richard Bennett; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

She was a member of New Bethel Presbyterian Church for 70 years, where she was active in the Presbyterian Women, served in many Vacation Bible Schools, and was adored for the hundreds of Jello eggs she would make for the children at Easter. She and Graham served for many years delivering Meals On Wheels. She was a past member of the Piney Flats Ruritan Club.

She worked for many years as a bank teller, beginning with First Peoples Bank, and retiring from First American Bank. So many people knew her for her outgoing and kind care for her customers.

Even though she lived frugally, Peggy was a very generous giver. She was well known for the joy she received from sharing hospitality and her good cooking. No one ever left her house hungry, and often with extras to go. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed her rapt attention and affection. To this day, her no-bake cookies have not been matched; she was always prepared to have a batch ready at a moment’s notice. She and Graham shared many happy days at Roan Mountain campground, where they introduced their grandchildren to the joys of camping, creek wading, s’mores, hot chocolate, and popcorn. She was a woman with a green thumb; she loved flowers and gardening and emphasized that one must be out there at the crack of dawn in order to have the best garden. She was especially fond of thick-sliced tomato sandwiches with a lot of mayonnaise.

The family would like to thank Deanna White, Barbara Good, and Sheila Frazier for taking such loving care of Peggy in the last year. Additional thanks go to Providence Home Health and Caris Hospice.

Edward Kenneth Snyder passed away December 29, 2008.

He was born February 27, 1928, in Slab Fork, West Virginia, the eldest son of Edward Snyder, of Boone, NC, and Hattie DeLoach, of Doeville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; his infant brother, Bruce Snyder; his brother, Jim Snyder, San Francisco, CA; and his sister-in-law, Cora Snyder, Erwin, TN.

Ed's father was a coal miner in Beckley, WV. He became suddenly ill with spinal meningitis and passed away when Ed was only 8 years old. His mother, Hattie, moved the children to Elizabethton in October 1936 to be near the relatives. Ed grew up in Elizabethton, attending local schools.

He joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and was stationed in Great Lakes, Illinois, and served in Pearl Harbor on the USS Sante Fe. He was awarded the Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Medal. He has been a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Capt. Lynn H. Folsom Post No. 2166, Elizabethton, TN, since 1948.

After returning to Elizabethton from his naval service, he became interested in a career in custom sign design and manufacturing. He worked for several months as an apprentice at a sign company in Athens, GA. Returning to Elizabethton, he became employed in Kingsport, TN, with Felix Sign Company. Advancing through the years, he became General Manager of the company. During this time he received his electrical degree and drafting and welding degrees. He remained with the company until 1962. He also obtained his Tennessee Contractors License.

His decision to build and open his own sign company came in 1962 in Johnson City, TN. Through the years the company enjoyed great success in building, designing, manufacturing and installation of electrical sign displays throughout the upper East Tennessee region under Ed's leadership as owner and president. He traveled the area purchasing and leasing many locations for outside billboard advertising. Ed was a "hands on" manager and one of his major projects was the restoration of the Paramount Theatre Marquee in Bristol, TN.

He was a member of the World Sign Association, NESA, and received his general contractor's license. Ed believed that the design, manufacturing and installation of every sign was indeed a work of art and image creation. He took great pride in creating Snyder Signs, Inc. Due to his ill health he retired in 1992. Seeing the company progress and grow into a second generation company has been a time of enjoyment for Ed.

ERWIN — Mr. Ernest C. Snyder, age 80, of 324 South Main Avenue, Erwin, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Snyder was a native of Charleston, West Virginia, moving as a young boy to Elizabethton, where he raised his family. He lived in Wilmington, North Carolina, for 23 years and has been a resident of Erwin since 1995. Mr. Snyder was a son of the late Edward and Hattie Day Snyder.

He was a Korean War U.S. Army Veteran. Mr. Snyder was of the Baptist Faith. He was a millwright working in Industrial Construction and had been employed for over 23 years with Tennessee Line and Twine in Elizabethton and retiring in 1995.

Mr. Snyder enjoyed working in his garage after retirement and also enjoyed restoring a 1966 Ford Mustang with his son, Jerry.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Mae Buchanan Snyder, in 2006; and brothers Ed, Jim and Bruce Snyder.

Survivors include: Sons, Jerry Snyder and wife, Amy, Erwin, James Snyder and wife, Sheri, Willard, North Carolina; Daughters, Jean Harmon and husband, Vaughn, and Teresa Snyder, all of Erwin, and Kathy Snyder, Charlotte, North Carolina; Brother, Frank Snyder and wife, Kathleen, California; Sister, Pansy Hanson and husband, Dean, Hampton; Thirteen grandchildren; Twelve great grandchildren; Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service for Mr. Snyder will be held at 8:00 P.M. Friday from Erwin Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Ronnie Holloway will officiate. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Committal service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Boone Dam VFW Post #4933 and the Tennessee National Guard. Friends will serve as pallbearers. Family, minister, pallbearers and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 A.M. Saturday.

Mary Louise Baker Dugger, age 91, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2013. She was born on September 5, 1921 to the late Carl V. and Lillie Snyder Baker. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John Norman Dugger, and a son, Victor Caroll Norman Dugger.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Johnson County and graduate of Watauga Academy of Butler. She was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Linda Sweetman of Tustin, CA; stepdaughter, Mary Carroll of Butler, TN; son, Gerald Steve Dugger of the home; several grandchildren; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Sugar Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Greene and Rev. Alan Koch officiating. The family received friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Allen L. Snyder, 82, of 224 Allen Snyder Ln, Mountain City, Tennessee, surrounded by his family, passed away in his home on Monday December 24, 2018. Allen was born in Butler, TN on July 1, 1936, to Paul H. and Virginia Bunting Snyder. Allen is preceded in death by his parents and a special niece Jennifer Main.



Allen is a Johnson County native and graduate of Johnson County High School. After graduation, Allen went into the US Army. After discharge, Allen went to Lees-McRae College and Appalachian State University, playing football for both the Bobcats and the Mountaineers. After graduating from college, Allen returned to Johnson County where he was a teacher, coach, and administrator for 30 years. Allen also enjoyed working the land and farming, which he had plenty of time to do after he retired from teaching. When Allen was not working, he enjoyed watching Tennessee Vols sports and spending time with his grandchildren.

Those left to remember Allen are his loving wife of 57 years, Lennis Trivette Snyder; daughter Tracy Arrington and husband Pride of Glade Springs, VA; son Kent Snyder and wife Kelly of Dalton, GA; sister Mary Ann Jacobs of Butler, TN; brother John Snyder of Boone, NC; grandchildren Hannah Snyder, Mollie Snyder, Annie Kate Sapp and husband Jake, Kiley and "Lil" Pride Arrington; several nieces and nephews. Margaret was born on August 30, 1939, in Butler, TN. She was a 1957 Graduate of Johnson County High School and attended both The University of Kentucky and East Tennessee State University. Margaret moved to Bristol in 1958 when she began working at Raytheon. During her nine years at Raytheon, she met Samuel Myers and they were married on July 1, 1967. Margaret became a homemaker and mother who loved taking care of her family.

She was an active and dedicated member of First Baptist Church Bristol Virginia where she served as Church Hostess for 10 years. During which time she orchestrated countless Wednesday Night Meals, wedding receptions and other social events at the church. Margaret was well known for her volunteer spirit and endless hours working with various groups at her church, school PTA, South Holston Little League Concessions, Sullivan East High School Band Concessions, and Sullivan County 4-H.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Samuel Miller Myers, parents Dayton and Minnie Belle (Ward) Snyder, brother James S. Snyder and sister in-law Dixie Snyder. She is survived by her daughter, Jama and husband Phillip Richardson; son, Daniel and wife Debbie Myers; stepdaughter, Linda and husband John R. Williams and her grandchildren, Sam, Max and Van Richardson, Jessica, Joshua and Jocelyn Myers, Alvin and wife Lisa Williams, Mary Ruth and husband David Brown and Michelle and husband Jason Reynolds; great-grandsons; Hayden Williams, Paul Brown and Noah Reynolds; her brothers, Roy Snyder, David and wife Ladonna Snyder and Richard Snyder; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

MOUNTAIN CITY — James Stuart Snyder, age 71, of 120 Robe Shull Road, Mountain City, TN passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at his residence.

He was a native of Johnson County and was born March 20, 1941 to the late Dayton S. Snyder and Minnie Belle Ward Snyder.

Jim was a quiet man and had a gentle spirit. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren. He loved the simple life and also loved traveling to the Amish Country because he felt he had a lot in common with them.

Jim Graduated from Johnson County High School and spend three years in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a dairy farmer for 36 years and a carrier for Johnson City Press for 5 years. He was of the Baptist faith and loved his Lord Jesus Christ. When able he attended Vaughts Gap Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years Lois Phipps Snyder; sister: Margaret Snyder Myers; brothers: David Snyder and wife Ladonna; Roy Snyder and wife Dixie; Richard "Dick" Snyder and wife Lona Jean; daughter: Angelina Marie Snyder and husband Nevin; step children: Jody Putnam, Tammy McCloud, Pamela Brown and husband Jeff; grandchildren: Liddy Drey Arnold, Madelyn Grace Arnold, Johnathan Tanner Putnam, Shainna Rhea Putnam, Allyson Paige McCloud, Griffin Lynn Brown, Carson Ray Brown; his children whom he called his adopted children: Wild Willie Phipps, Melinda (Moe) Sutherland Hasket, Bobbie Joe Crawford, Holly Grayson Brown, Billy and Mark Ward. BLUFF CITY - Malcolm “Bud” Snyder Rambo, age 89, of Bluff City, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 16, 2020, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

He was born June 15, 1930 in Elizabethton, Tenn., a son of the late Argil Gresham and Gladys Rachel Snyder Rambo. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Rambo; and sister, Edna Adams.

Bud was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church and served as Security. Throughout his career, he was a salesman and purchasing agent for Mitchell-Powers Hardware Company for over 35 years. Bud loved farming and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean S. Rambo; daughter, Mitzi Mooberry and husband Steve; brother, Stuart Rambo and wife Sandra; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home in Bristol, Tenn. Lynn Snyder, age 72 of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on October 9, 2017, at his home. He was born on April 22, 1945, to the late Watson Decauter 'Doc' Snyder and Zola Mae White Snyder. In addition to his parents, Lynn was preceded in death by a brother, Scotty Snyder.

Lynn was a Vietnam War Veteran having served in the Army as Combat Medic.

Lynn loved living in the mountains and farming. He was a very loving and caring man. He was also a very giving and generous man who would give you the shirt off his back. His family was very important to him and his granddaughter, Shianti, was the light of his life.

He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and had also attended Roan Creek Baptist Church.

Mr. Dean L. Stout, age 78, of 1186 Stout Branch Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013, in the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
Dean was born on February 7, 1935, in Johnson County, Tennessee, to the late D.L. Snyder and Virginia Stout Coffey. He was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Dale Stout.
Dean was a member of Vaught's Gap Baptist Church and regularly attended the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church also. Dean enjoyed working with his backhoe and farming, especially working with his cattle.
Dean was a current Johnson County Commissioner, a former Circuit Court clerk for eight years and a United States Marine Corps Veteran.
He was a former member of the Roan Creek Masonic Lodge #679 F&AM in Butler, Tennessee, and a 32nd Degree Mason.
Survivors include: son, Michael L. and wife, Vicki A. Stout, of Mountain City, Tennessee; two sisters, Nancy Jacobs and husband, Alton, Mountain City, Tennessee, and Linda Arnold and husband, Terry, of Elizabethton, Tennessee; one brother, Tommy Coffey and wife, Linda, of Mountain City, Tennessee; grandchildren, Carli Stanley and husband, Justin, Hampton, Tennessee, and Calli Rae Smith, Mountain City, Tennessee. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Dean will be conducted on Saturday, November 9, 2013, from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Norman and Rev. Chuck Morefield to officiate. Music will be under the direction of Joe Simcox.

Wesley Eric Snyder, age 44, of Mountain City, TN passed away on Friday morning, October 15, 2021 at his home. Eric was born on March 30, 1977 in Johnson City, TN. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dayton and Minnie Bell Snyder and Edell Arnold, aunt, Margaret Myers, uncle, Jim Snyder.

Eric loved the outdoors, farming, fishing and hunting. He was an avid UT Vols fan. Eric was a loving person and cared about others. Eric was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
