Mrs. Rebecca Archer Estep, 95 of Route 1, Elizabethton died at her home Sunday afternoon after an illness of four months. She was the wife of the late Isaac J. Estep, who preceeded her in death in 1945. She was a member of the Park Street Church of God. Survivors include five sons Andy Estep, Will Estep, S.M. Estep all of Route 1, Elizabethton, Campbell Estep of 1020 West G Street, Elizabethton and John Estep of 122 Railroad Street, Elizabethton, two daughters, Mrs. C.F. Crowe of Guild, Tennessee and Mrs. Rhudy Fortner of Route 1, Elizabethton, thirty-two grand children and thirty-four great grandchildren. One sister Mrs. Sallie Bowers of Route 7, Elizabethton.

Mrs. Jo Ann Peters, 80 died at her home in Hampton R-1, Friday evening after a lingering illness. Mrs Peters was a member of the Hampton Christian Church. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the home of her son, Mike Peters with the Rev. John Hall in charge. Burial will be in the Morton Cemetery. Mrs. Bertha O. Nichols, 93, 101 Mitchell St., Providence, R.I., died Monday morning in the Elmwood Health Center after a lengthy illness. A native of Carter County, she had lived in Rhode Island for the past 20 years and was a daughter of the late Frank and Joanne Archer Peters. Mrs. Nichols was a Protestant and was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Nichols, Sr., in 1981. Survivors include two sons, Ray Nichols, Rt. 5, Johnson City, and Carl Nichols, Charleston, S.C.; one brother, Mike Peters of Hampton; and two sisters, Mrs. Nell Pierce of Hampton and Mrs. Laura Bowers of Elizabethton. Two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The body is being returned to Elizabethton for funeral and interment. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha O. Nichols, 93, 101 Mitchell St., Provicence, R.I., who died Monday, will be held at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday from the Sunset Chapel of Hatahway-Percy Funeral Home with Fred C. Lester, minister, officiating. Music will be by Mrs. Georgia Cox, organist. Interment will be in the Morton Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Friends may call at the residence of a son, Ray Nichols, Rt. 5, Johnson City, at any time.

Mrs. E.H. Bowers, 64, died at 1:20 pm Monday at a Kingsport hospital after several months illness. Her home was at Jonesboro, Route 5 on the Johson City-Kingsport Highway. She was born in Hampton, and had lived in Kingsport and Washington County for 33 years. She was a member of Grandview Chapter 441 of Eastern Star and was a Gold Star Mother. He son Lt. Wayne H. Bowers died in World War II. Survivors are her husband, E.H. Bowers, Route 5, Jonesboro; two daughters, Mrs. Logan G. Flanary, Kingsport; Mrs. Philip B. Hardymon, Columbus, Ohio; one son, Capt. James B. Bowers, with the U.S. Air Force in Japan; four sisters: Mrs. Laura Bowers, Elizabethton; Mrs. Nan Smith, Hampton; Mrs. Bertha Nichols, Johnson City; one brother, Mike Peters of Indiana. The body will remain in the Hamlett-Dodson Furneral Home in Kingsport where funeral arrangements will be announced later. Funeral services for Mrs. E.H. Bowers will be conducted at 3 pm Wednesday from the First Christian Church, Kingsport, with Dr. L. Palmer Young officiating assisted by Dr. Clyde Smith of the Central Christian Church of Bristol. Burial will be made in the Happy Valley Memorial Park.

Mrs. Laura M. Peters Bowers, 91, Rt. 2, Elizabethton, died Thursday morning, March 3, 1994 at the home of a grand-daughter, Jane Radford, Rt. 4, Elizabethton, following an extended illness. Mrs. Bowers was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Frank and JoAnn Archer Peters. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John C. Bowers in 1964, two daughters, Dimpler Farris in 1970 and Lula Mae Bowers in 1986, and by three grandchildren. Mrs. Bowers was a member of the Blue Springs Christian Church and a retired employee of Southern Cafe.

Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Funeral services for Mrs. Laura M. Peters Bowers, 91, Rt. 2, Elizabethton, will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday from the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Bowers Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday and at the homes of her daughters any time. Friends who wish may make donations in memory of Mrs Bowers to the American Cancer Society in care of Mrs. Alta Jane Caudill, P.O. Box 247, Elizabethton, Tenn., 37643. Archie "Jack" Taylor, age 81, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Jack was born in Carter County, Tennessee to the late General Jackson Taylor and Goldie Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Grindstaff; his second wife, Roma J. Taylor; two grandchildren, Jackson Johnston and Taylor Blevins; his siblings, Willie Taylor Garland, Lena Gregory, Loretta Markland, Lois Jean McClure, Laurie Campbell, Brooks Taylor, Cephus Taylor, Coy Taylor and Sterling Taylor; two half-sisters, Ruth Estep and Chelsea Taylor; and three half-brothers, Roy Taylor, Anderson Taylor and John Taylor.

Jack was a 1957 graduate of Unaka High School and was a member of Moore's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. He retired from Baxter Pharmaseal after 38 years of service. Jack enjoyed time with family and friends and grandkids, listening to music, country drives, gardening and watching the Braves.

Those left to cherish his memory include three daughters, Tammy Blevins, of Gray, TN, Maria Gwin and husband Joshua, also of Gray, TN and Jackee Johnston and husband Jason, of Johnson City, TN; one son, Gary Taylor and wife Regina, of Charleston, SC; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one brother, Freeman Taylor, of Elizabethton.

A graveside service to honor the life of Archie "Jack" Taylor will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Clarence Phillips and Pastor Ben Cole, officiating. Music will be provided by Angela Bowman and Melissa Woods. Jack's nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

James Floyd Markland, 90, 1126 Bluefield Avenue, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at the residence of a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. David R. Markland, Elizabethton.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charles David and Bertha Elizabeth Jordan Markland. Mr. Markland had lived in Michigan for 28 years before returning to Elizabethton in 1999. He was a retired pipe fitter with General Motors in Detroit. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local #22, Detroit. Mr. Markland was also a member of the West Gate Cyrus Masonic Lodge #520 of West Branch, Mich. He was a member of the Southside Free Will Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Eva Caroline Slone-Markland in 1998 (who died in Michigan); by a son, James H. Markland (Viet-Nam), and a sister, Carrie Markland.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia and Edward Hester, Johnson City, and Elizabeth Owens, Orange Park, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Nioka Markland, of the home; two sisters, Louise Deloach and Janelle Nidiffer, both of Elizabethton; three brothers, George "Ed" Markland and Bobby J. Markalnd, both of Elizabethton, and Howard Markland, Flushing, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Louise Markland Deloach, 88, Walker Street, Elizabethton, went to be with her
Heavenly Father Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in the Johnson City Medical Center
after a brief illness.

Mrs. Deloach was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late
Charlie and Bertha Jordan Markland. In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, Lester "Buck" Deloach, two brothers, Floyd
and Harry Markland, and a sister, Carrie Markland. Mrs. Deloach retired from
the Bemberg Corporation. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church
and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Sue and Terry McKinney and
Genia Jenkins, all of Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Mary
Deloach, Elizabethton; three brothers, Bobby Joe Markland and Ed Markland,
both of Elizabethton, and Howard Markland, Flushing, Mich.; a sister, Janelle
Nidiffer, Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Opal Deloach, Elizabethton; six
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a
very special friend, Lola Eller.

Funeral services for Mrs. Deloach will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, March
18, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Cecil "Nick" Bradshaw and Rev. Elmer
Carter officiating. Music will be provided by Rev. Phil Poston. Interment will
be at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to
assemble at the funeral chapel at 10 a.m. Saturday, will be Jeff McKinney,

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late William T. and Fannie Parker Estep. Mrs. Estep attended the Old Horseshoe School at Wilbur Lake and was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 44 years of service. She attended the Old Horseshoe Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy Jack, Earl, Nat, Alfred and Ray Estep.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, gardening and being with his church family. He was a member of Hampton First Baptist Church. Mr. Estep served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the European and South Pacific Theatres. He was retired as a Dental Technician at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was an active member of Roan Street Church of God where he served as clerk for over 50 years.

He was employed as a Draftsman at Magnavox for several years and retired as a Draftsman from Snap-On-Tool, Elizabethton. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. S.M. was an active member of the First Christian Church of Elizabethton.

His hobbies were gardening, woodworking and trains.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Humphrey Estep, April 2, 2003; by a sister: Novella Treadway; and three brothers: Infant Howard Dean Estep, Roy Estep and Floyd Estep.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years Frances Stout Estep, a sister Novella Treadway and a brother, Roy Estep.

He was a son of the late Rhudy and Mamie Estep Fortner. Mr. Fortner was a farmer and a member of the Horseshoe Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, western movies and all of his friends from John Reed Nursing Home and Four Oaks Health Care Center. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Glenda Hall and Irene Shirley; five brothers, David Fortner, Larry Fortner, Jimmy Fortner, Lloyd Fortner and James W. Fortner.

Survivors include a sister, Fannie Mae Fortner Henshaw Gosnell of Jonesborough; a brother, Bruce Fortner of Lincoln, Nebraska; two special sisters-in-law, Trula B. Fortner, Elizabethton and Alazine Fortner, Scherltz, Texas; also several nieces and nephews.

ELIZABETHTON - William "Bill" Zane Peters, age 85, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Bill was born in Hampton, Tennessee to the late Mike and Texie Calhoun Peters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Peters; and two sisters, Louise Hazlewood and Gail White; his second wife, Peggy Smith Peters; and his dog and companion, "Pandora".

Bill had worked as a pipefitter and was both a United States Army veteran and a United States Navy veteran. He was of the Protestant faith and attended Prayer Tabernacle, where he served as a deacon. Bill enjoyed riding motorcycles, woodworking, shooting muzzleloaders, riding horses and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles sports fan.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of forty three years, Mary Tyree Peters, of the home; six children, Billy Manwaring and wife Carmen, of Dallas, TX, Kitty Moore and husband Ralph, of Elizabethton, Gregory Zane Peters, of Elizabethton, TN, Charles "Cowboy" Webb, of Johnson City, TN, Wendy Webb Avery, of Johnson City, TN, and Jeremy Daniel Peters, of the home; eight grandchildren, Samantha, Zane, Julia, Stephanie, T.J., Kristi, Tamrah and Rylan; fourteen great grandchildren; two brothers, George "Buster" Peters and wife Nancy, of Deer Park, NY and Steve Peters and wife Sherrie, of Jonesborough, TN; and one sister, Carolyn Magnuson and husband Terry, of Mishawaka, IN.

Music will be provided by Ralph Moore, soloist. Rose Ella Bowers Hardin, 85, passed away peacefully the morning of May 6, 2023, in Pompano Beach, Fla., after a lengthy illness. She was born October 13, 1937, to the late John C. Bowers and Laura Peters Bowers in Carter County, Tenn. Rose was a 1954 graduate of Unaka High School. She worked in the restaurant and dietary industry throughout her professional career, including positions at Northside Hospital, Westside Elementary School, and T. A. Dugger Middle School. She was a member of Westside Christian Church. She was a life-long Elizabethton High School football fan and Tennessee Lady Vol basketball fan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hardin, and five sisters, Lula Mae Bowers, Anna Belle Hardin, Ruth Pierce, Dora Carr and Dimple Farris. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Carlisle; two brothers, William Clay Grindstaff and Roy Luther Grindstaff; and a sister, Grace Grindstaff.

Hazel retired as a nurse and was licensed in six states. She was an Assistant Director of Nursing at Regency/ Life Care Nursing Home and loved her tenure in geriatric nursing. Hazel was the oldest member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, chairman of the food committee and a member of the choir. Hazel was the last surviving member of the Unaka High School Class of 1945. She was a 67-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Sycamore #163 and the Julius Dugger Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed sewing, family, church, grandchildren, traveling and reading.

Those left to cherish Hazel’s many wonderful memories and legacy include her daughter, Debra Woods and husband Larry, of Elizabethton; her son, Joe Carlisle and wife Rhonda, of Hendersonville, TN; two granddaughters, Becky Woods Shomaker and husband Matt, of Blountville and Mindy Carlisle Moore and husband Zach, of Hendersonville, TN; two great-granddaughters, Katelyn Shoemaker and Kristyn Shoemaker; a sister, Shirley Prikals and husband Pete, of Herndon, VA; a special niece, Robin Grindstaff Hurdle, of Elizabethton and several other nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Hazel Grindstaff Carlisle will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021, in the Stoney Creek Baptist Church with Reverend David Foster and Dr. Kenneth Jordan, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Doyce Sheffield and Dennis Laws. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the church, prior to the service on Friday.

The graveside service will follow in the Grindstaff Cemetery on Creek Bank Road in the Stoney Creek Community. Active pallbearers will be Matt Shoemaker, Darren Kirkendall, Billy Kirkendall, Clay Kirkendall, Lanier Hurdle and Pete Prikals, III. Roy Luther Grindstaff, 83, was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., on August 6, 1935, and he went to be with the Lord on November 5, 2018, at his daughter's home in Hernando, Miss., surrounded by his loving family.
Roy was a guitar player in "The Rambling Troubadours" band when he met the love of his life, Virginia Faye McCanless. Roy and Virginia dated for three years before getting married at the home of Hazel and Bob Carlisle in August of 1962. The two of them spent the next 56 years together; they were best friends, traveling companions and co-conspirators.
Roy was a retired electrician; he was a member for over 60 years of the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers, Local Union 429. He used to say that IBEW stood for "I've Been Everywhere." He and Ginny traveled all over the country, raising two children, while he worked for the IBEW, including working on the World Trade Center. He called the IBEW's job line regularly, still looking for work.
Roy was a "yellow-dog" Democrat. He was determined to vote, and one of his proudest moments was to absentee vote in the most recent election. He voted for every Democrat on the ballot.
Roy was voted "Best Looking" of his Senior Class in 1953, when he graduated from Unaka High School (the Temple of Knowledge). He was President of his Sophomore Class and of his Senior Class. He had perfect attendance, great grades, and was a member of the football team.
He was a 50+ year Mason, now a member of the Dashiell Lodge #238 in Elizabethton, Tenn. He still proudly carries his Masonic card in his wallet.
Roy is survived by his wife and best friend, Virginia McCanless Grindstaff; his daughter Robin and her husband Lanier Hurdle; his son Randy and his wife Kathy; grandchildren, Kelsey Costa, Rachel Grindstaff, Daniel Grindstaff and Sy Hurdle; great-grandchild, Ila Ray Dewhirst; sisters, Hazel Carlisle and Shirley (Pete) Prikals; nephews and nieces, Joseph (Rhonda) Carlisle, Debra (Larry) Woods, Melissa (Clay) Kirkendall, Petris (Amanda) Prikals III, Marshall Wayne (Willie) Collins, Michael (JoAnn) Underwood and April (Johnny) Henderson; special friends, Carol Ayers and Kelly and Lynn Bowers.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Noah Costa; his parents, Noah and Golda Grindstaff; his siblings, Billy Grindstaff and Grace Grindstaff; and his beloved brother-in-law, Bob Carlisle.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Carlisle, Daniel Grindstaff, Sy Hurdle, Taylor Moore (standing in for Noah Costa), Petris Prikals III, Michael Underwood and Larry Woods. Honorary pallbearers will be Unaka High School's Class of 1953.
Roy was a lifelong member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church, where the visitation will be held on Friday, November 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor David Foster officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Grindstaff Family Cemetery on Eggers Lane.

Ina Mae Hyder Estep, 90, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital after a brief illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Claude & Blanche Grindstaff Hyder. Ina was a 1942 graduate of Unaka High School, where she played on the Lady Ranger Basketball Team . She worked as a Lab Technician at St. Elizabeth Hospital prior to going to work for Dr. Dillard Shoals & Dr. Cone. She worked there for 35 years.
Ina was the oldest living member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church.
IIn addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dan H. Estep, who died in 1995; by a son Rev. Richard H. "Dick" Estep, who died in 2014; two brothers: James H. & Clifford Hyder; and a sister-in-law: Lillian Hyder.

Rev. James Allen Markland, 72, 1820 E. Myrtle Avenue, Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Johnson City Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

A native of Carter County, he had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late Melvin and Jennie Nidiffer Markland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Billy Keith Markland, and a brother, Melvin Markland Jr. Rev. Markland was a member of the Freewill Baptist faith and had been a minister of the gospel for over 30 years. His last pastorate position was at True Faith Chapel in Elizabethton. He had also been a member of the Joyland Singers Quartet.

Rev. Markland had served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was also well known as Sky Hawk on the CB Radio; also known as Jim Allen on various radio stations. He had also worked at Empire Furniture and Trailways Bus Lines and had retired from City of Johnson City Transit System. Survivors include his wife, Ruby McKinney Markland; a stepdaughter, Debbie Thomas of Johnson City; a son, Lanny Markland of Johnson City; three daughters, Sherry Ann Lowe and Robin Bowers, both of Elizabethton, and Nancy Greer of Roan Mountain; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a special grandson, Randy Thomas, who made his home with Papaw and Mamaw; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Rev. Markland will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at Washington County Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. David Montgomery and Rev. Larry Dugger officiating. Music will be provided by the Montgomery Family. Entombment will follow the service.

Jerry was retired from Eastman Chemical Company. He loved to hunt, fish and read his Bible. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Cochran, a son: Mark Cochran and a sister: Selma Wilcox.

Roger Rickey Markland of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with his heavenly Father on September 14, 2022.
Roger had a love for life and the outdoors. He never met a stranger; but most of all, he loved the Lord. I know Heaven has gained an angel. Though with tears in my eyes, I let you go because the I know the loss is mine, but Heaven’s gain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lundy and Evadean Dugger Markland; two sisters, Gearlean Campbell and Roma Markland; and one brother, Norman Markland.

Elizabeth had worked as an administration assistant in the Supervisor's Office for the Elizabethton City School System. She was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everette "Buddy" Ramey; two sisters, Mary Maples and Florence Songer; and a brother, Lawrence "Bud" Rains.

Ms. Markland was a native of Elizabethton, TN. She had lived in Johnson City most of her life. Vicki was the daughter of the late George Edward Markland and Wanda Mae Clark Markland. She was a Christian and a member of First Christian Church, Johnson City, TN. Vicki was retired from Citi, Gray, TN. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ricky Markland and Randy Markland.

Mr. Randy Markland, age 63, of Elizabethton passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2012 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Elizabethton, he was the son of the late George Edward and Wanda Mae Clark Markland. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War era.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Markland. ELIZABETHTON - Lula Dorothy Lett, "Dottie", age 81 of Elizabethton, passed away on, Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Dottie was a native of Carter County and was the daughter of the late Bonnie Stout Nave and Worley Milburn Nave, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, JoAnn Rash; two brothers, Worley Nave, Jr. and James Nave; two infant twin siblings; a grandchild, Jenna Claymon and a step-granddaughter, Charlene Cox.

Dottie was a long time member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. She cooked Wednesday night meals for the church and always participated in Bible School activities. She was a very devoted Christian even to her last days. Most of all she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always put others before herself.

Della Ruth Nave Duvall, 79, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 6, 2021, at NHC Healthcare of Johnson City following a courageous battle with Alzheimers. Della was born in Carter County to the late Worley Milburn Nave and Bonnie Stout Nave.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Duvall; two brothers, Worley Nave Jr. and Robert “Jim” Nave; and two sisters, Joann Rash and Dorothy Lett.
Della retired from North American Rayon Corporation and had farmed all of her life in Carter County. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church and a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews.

JoAnn Rash, 72, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Holston Valley Medical Center, following an extended illness. JoAnn was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Worley Milburn Nave Sr. and Bonnie Stout Nave. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Worley Nave Jr. and James Nave, and two infant twin siblings.
JoAnn was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church and a previous member of Hunter First Baptist Church. She loved all her church family of both churches and was a faithful helper with the AWANA program. Most of all she was a devoted mother and grandmother.

ELIZABETHTON — Linda Sue Estep Ayers, 74, Elizabethton passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, in the Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late William Earl & Bonnie Hodge Estep. Linda was a 1959 graduate of Unaka High School and attended Milligan College. She was retired from the First Tennessee Human Resource Agency. She was a member of the Hunter United Methodist Church.

She was born to the late Lloyd and Estalee Carden on September 22, 1946. Margaret was the eldest of four children. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Margaret treated every child that came into her life as one of her own. She loved having a house full of kids. Margaret always said when the kids were there, she knew they were safe.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the nurses of the ICU at Johnson City Medical Center. Your loving care of Margaret Ann Carden Campbell will never be forgotten, and to the staff of Carter County Rescue Squad for all your wonderful care of her over the past few years. Darrell "Dolly" Egli Spake, 87, of Fallston, N.C., went to her heavenly home Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Carolinas HealthCare System-Cleveland with her loving husband by her side.
Born October 20, 1930, in Elizabethton, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Howard and Roberta Egli.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bill Spake.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Fallston Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Fallston Baptist Church with the Rev. David Blanton officiating. The entombment will follow the services in the Rose Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum, Fallston.

Rosella K. Pritchard, born January 29, 1952 in Elizabethton, Tenn., died at home on September 12, 2021.
Rosella was employed for many years at Betty’s Burger Hut.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Ray and Gertie Lipps Grindstaff; a brother, James Ray Grindstaff; and son, Stevie Hardin.
She is survived by her husband, Danny Pritchard; her daughter, Brandy Proffitt; two sisters; two brothers; and her grandson, Gavin.
Despite her health issues, Rosella posted inspirational and encouraging quotes showing her love for others and for her Savior Jesus Christ on her Facebook page.
It was Rosella’s wish to be cremated.

Danette Hardin, 77, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Daniel H. and Ina M. Estep. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Rev. Richard Estep, and a grandson, Jesse Hardin.
Those left to cherish her memories include her devoted husband of 59 years, David “Doug” Hardin; son, Jeff Hardin and wife Sherri; daughter, Stephanie Ensor and husband Donald; six grandchildren, Sarah Hardin (fiancé Weston Colbaugh), John-Wesley Hardin, Rebekah Hardin, Brandi Ensor (fiancé Chris Beach), Davy Ensor and Daniel Ensor; and a very special great-granddaughter, Allie Beach.
Survivors also include five special sisters-in-law, Jan Estep, Georgia Ellis, Carol Hardin, Vera Smith and Karen Hardin, and life-long friends, Dean and Flo Grindstaff. In addition, she is survived by many nephews and nieces.
Danette was a life-long member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church and was retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, July 24, at 1 pm. at Blevins Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Music will be provided by the New Liberty Quartet. Pallbearers will be selected from grandsons and nephews in attendance. Friends and family are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to express a special thank you to her grandson, Davy Ensor, for his loving care and assistance during her illness, the staff of Caris Healthcare, and all the visits and meals from family, friends and neighbors.

Rev. Richard Harvey "Dick" Estep, 69, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday December 28, 2014, at his residence following an extended illness. He was a Carter County native. He was a 1963 graduate of Unaka High School where he was a member of the Ranger Football Team for four years. Richard was ordained to the Ministry by his father-in-law Rev. Homer Salyer at Hunter Memorial Baptist Church forty two years ago. He had served the following Churches: Beck Mountain Baptist Church, Dungan Chapel Baptist Church and Stoney Creek Baptist Church. He also had held several revivals during his Ministry. He also had worked at PSG for 20 years. He was a member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church. Richard was preceded in death by his father: Daniel Harvey Estep, December 7, 1995.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years: Janice Salyer Estep. Two Sons: Lance "The Duke" Estep, of the home and Shannon Estep and wife Christy, Elizabethton. Three Grandchildren: Aaron, Carissa and Jacob Estep. His Mother: Ina Hyder Estep. One Sister & Brother-In-Law: Danette & Doug Hardin, Elizabethton. Numerous nieces & nephews.
A Service Honoring the life of Richard Harvey Estep will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eric Heaton, Rev. Eric Wright and Rev. Roy Wilson (Ministers who Richard had ordained) officiating. Interment will follow in the Grindstaff Cemetery (Stoney Creek) with the Rev. Roger Haley and Rev. David Foster officiating. Music will be provided by Eric Heaton, The New Liberty Quartet and Debra Woods. Active Pallbearers will be: Aaron Estep, Desler Salyer, Roy Salyer, Doug Hardin, Jeffery Hardin, Jerry Proffitt, Jamie Buckles and Eddie Spears. Honorary Pallbearers will be: All his Nephews, Harold Bowers, Javy Taylor, Estel Taylor, Lanny White, Billy "Boo" Bishop, Ken Pierce and Ministers of the Watauga Baptist Association. Robin Marie Markland Bowers, 61, of Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018, at her residence.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Jimmy Allen Markland and Loretta Taylor Morris and her step-father, Billy Jack Morris.
Robin had been an employee of Wal-Mart for a number of years before being employed by the Carter County School System as a custodian at Unaka High School and Hunter Elementary School. She was of the Free Will Baptist Faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Markland.
Survivors include her children, Renee Gladson and Jonathan Bowers and wife Chastity, all of Elizabethton, and Michelle Dotson, Johnson City; eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn Simerly, Morgan Simerly, Megan Simerly, Zayne Buckles, Avery Dotson, Kendall Dotson, Nick Bowers and Allston Harrison; the father of her children, Harold "Mutt" Bowers; her brother, Laney Markland; her sisters, Thelma "Pebbles" Blake and Sherry Ann Lowe; and several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Robin Marie Markland Bowers will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Greer officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, in the Wilson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Eugene “Gene” Ross Moreland, 74, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at home with his family, following an extended illness. He was born on February 7, 1947 to the late Robert “Bob” Henry Moreland and Barbara Kaye White Moreland.
Gene was very loyal and devoted, he always carried a smile and had a friendly word for everyone. He loved both his family and his church family at Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a very active member of the Men’s Fellowship. He was a member of the Unaka High School Class of 1965 and then attended East Tennessee State University.
Gene had worked for over 30 years with the Carter County Sheriff’s Department and was passionate about his job. He was a true servant to his fellow officers and his community until his death. Gene was a member of Masonic Lodge #238 for over 20 years and in his spare time, Gene enjoyed fishing, traveling and especially spending time with his family.
Those left to continue Gene’s legacy include his wife, Geneva Williams Moreland, of the home; his children, Phil Williams, Debra Holtsclaw, Todd Moreland and Travis Moreland; six grandchildren, Larissa Trivette, Rusty Holtsclaw, Wesley Williams, Chelsea Moreland, Bobbie Moreland and Zoie Moreland; several great-grandchildren; and a brother, Greg Moreland and sister-in-law, Melissa Moreland. Several nieces and nephews, as well as his special friends, Jim and Darlene Hawk, also survive.
A service to honor the life of Eugene “Gene” Ross Moreland will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, July 5, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Reverend Randy Johnson, Reverend Mark Potter and Reverend James Hawk officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from members of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Gray, Dwight Lacey, Ronny Kent, Matt Patterson, Russel Holtsclaw, Bo Trivette and Don Thompson.

Zaney Randolph "Randy" Taylor II, 44, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, July 7, 2017, in Charleston, S.C.
Randy was a native of Carter County and a 1991 graduate of Unaka High School where he was on the Rangers Football Team. He attended Tennessee College of Applied Technology and was a Welder. Randy was a member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Zaney Taylor; his step-father, Calvin Blane Quesenberry; his paternal grandparents, George and Matilda Taylor; and his maternal grandparents, Clyde and Chelsie White.
Survivors include his daughter, Haley Nicole Taylor; his step-daughter, Emily Vance; his mother, Shirley White Taylor Quesenberry; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lisa and Allen Richardson and Amy and Steve Netherly; his step-sisters, Barbara Raymond and husband John, and Sue Bebber and husband Sam; a step-brother, Calvin (Corky) Quesenberry and wife, Daphne; the mother of his daughter, Rhonda Taylor; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Brady M. Nave, 57, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at his residence. He was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., to the late Worley M. Nave Jr. and Thelma Catherine Hardin Nave of Elizabethton. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Blanche Hardin, and a first cousin, Gary Clemmons.
Brady was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on cars. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his wife and grandchildren.
Brady proudly served in the U.S. Army for 28 years and was a part of Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Those in addition to his mother left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Nave, of the home; a daughter, Reva Phillips and fiancé, Daniel Bates; a son, Sammy Phillips and fiancée, Tammy Wilson of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Wesley Phillips, Pheonixx Phillips and McKynlee Bates; and a special brother-in-law, Walter E. Williams (DeRhonda) of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 18. A committal service to honor the life of Brady M. Nave will be conducted Monday, July 19, at 2 p.m. in the Mountain Home National Cemetery at the New Annex (215 Heroes Drive, Mountain Home, Tn). Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Monday. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers are Walter Williams, Wesley Phillips, Jim Bowling, Harvey Tester and Rod Whitehead.
