Mrs. Eliza Jane Garland, 80, Shady Valley, died in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va., Tuesday 4:45 a.m., after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Johnson County, daughter of the late Perry and Aley Hutchinson Blevins. She was a member of Harmons Chapel Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jesse H. Garland, U-T hospital, Knoxville; two sons, Cebert Garland, Springfield, O., and I. C. Garland, Shady Valley; two daughters, Mrs. Deward Blevins, Shady Valley, and Mrs. Ray Price, Akron, O.; two brothers, Ambrose and I. C., both of Shady Valley; three sisters, Mrs. Katherine Walker, Daneville, Ill., and Mrs. Cynthia Long and Mrs. Hattie McQueen, both of Shady Valley; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Harmons Chapel Christian Church Thursday, 2 p.m. with ministers, Clay Bailey and John H. Hall to officiate. Burial will be in the Blevins Cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Georgia Gentry, Mountain City; Mrs. H.G. Ruth Opal Garland Campbell, 92, formerly of Shady Valley, Tenn., passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Erwin Health Care Center, Erwin, Tenn. She was born in Shady Valley, Tenn., on February 19, 1925 to the late Robert Garland and Emma Grace Rambo Garland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Campbell. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Campbell was a homemaker and she really enjoyed working on her farm.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews and her sister-in-law, Ardna Campbell.
The family would like to especially thank Erwin Health Care Center in Unicoi, Tenn., for the last eight and one-half years of care they gave to "Aunt Ruth." The family really thanks and appreciates the center for all they did for her. Also, a special thanks to her public guardian, Wanda Martin, and her assistant Karrie, for seeing and caring for Ruth.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at Shady Valley Memorial Gardens with Rev. Richard Stout officiating. Music will be provided by Faye Campbell.

MRS. CECILE GARLAND SHOUN...
... died at the Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, Tuesday night, Jan. 5, at 12:00 o'clock. She had been hospitalized for several days as a result of complications following illness of long duration.
She was a daughter of the late James Garland and Mrs. Catherine Garland of Shady Valley, and the wife of Stanley Shoun of Johnson City, and formerly of Johnson county.
Mrs. Shoun had been a teacher in the public schools of Upper East Tennessee for many years. She was a teacher in the Washington county system at the time of her death. Her last in Johnson county schools was in Shady Valley School in 1955-1956.
She was educated in the Johnson county schools and East Tennessee State College, from which she had both the bachelors and masters degrees in education.
She was a member of the Shady Valley Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held at the Central Baptist Church in Johnson City, Friday, Jan. 8, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Monte Vista cemetery.

Fred Garland, 94, of Shady Valley passed away Monday, February 28, 2011 at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Garland is survived by his wife of nineteen years, Izetta Garland; four sons, Fred Garland, Jr., Tom Garland and wife Laura, Bill Garland and Lawton Garland and wife Gwenda; six grandchildren; three great grand children; step-son, Bobby Dodgion and wife Sue; step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Garland was preceded in death by his first wife of forty nine years, Queen P. Garland; his parents, Jim and Catherine Garland and nine brothers and sisters.

A memorial service was conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Harmon Chapel Christian Church with Howard Taylor, Minister officiating. Interment will be in Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harmon Chapel Christian Church Building Fund, 1443 Highway 133, Shady Valley, TN 37688.

I. C. Garland, age 95, of Mountain City, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2009, at Mountain City Health Care.

I. C. was a native of Shady Valley, TN and was born June 6, 1914 to the late Jessie and Eliza Blevins Garland. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army from 1941 through 1946 in Africa and Italy. He was awarded four bronze stars. Prior to joining the Army, he played baseball for the New Your Giants Farm Team in Akron, Ohio. I. C. was a graduate of Steed College and East Tennessee State College. He taught school in Carter County and was Principal of Shady Valley Elementary School for several years. He was listed in the 1968-69 Southern and Southeast Edition of Who's Who. He helped start the first Guidance Association for public schools in Tennessee. He also worked for Raytheon and enjoyed building homes. I. C. served on the Board of Directors for Skyline Telephone Corp. for 40 years. He served on the Johnson County Jury Commission for 17 years and also served on the Planning Commission. He was a member of Harmons Chapel Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Sluder Garland, three sisters, Mada Scott, Myrtle Neine Blevins, and Gertie Price; and brother, Cebert Garland.

Survivors include his son, Eddie Garland and wife Allyson of Loudon, TN; grandson, Jack Garland and wife Meagan of Big Sandy, TN; granddaughters, Jenna Raine and Alyssa Jade Garland of Loudon, TN; two brothers-in-law, Deward Blevins of Shady Valley and Bob Sluder and wife Carolyn of Johnson City; three sisters-in-law, Stella Cox of Japan, Goldie Sparger of Mt. Airy, NC and Shelby Mahan and husband Jim of Butler; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also, special friends, Jim and June Hutchinson and very special friend and care giver, Mary Cornett.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2009, at Mountain City Funeral Home with the service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Jim Hutchinson, Minister and Howard Taylor, Minister officiating. Music will be provided by the group Narrow Road and Michael Hawkins. Pallbearers will be Michael Hawkins, Bob Sluder, Doug Mahan, Stephen Mahan, Rusty Sluder and Tom Seaton. Berry was born March 28, 1924, in Johnson County, TN, to the late Isaac C. and Gertie Mae Long Blevins. Berry was a life long resident of Shady Valley and enjoyed farming, hunting, cars, all sports, especially the UT Vols. He was a member of the Shady Valley baseball team.

He was a member of Shady Valley Church of Christ, where he was a deacon and song leader for several years. He loved his family and will be truly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mona McQueen, Sue Barry and Nina Sams; and two brothers, Blaine Blevins and Ozra Blevins.

SHADY VALLEY - Reford Elmo McQueen, age 96, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, January 06, 2019 at the Mountain City Care Center.

He was born on August 16, 1922 in Shady Valley to the late Willis and Hattie Blevins McQueen. In addition to his parents, Reford was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Cleota McQueen in 2015; sisters; Walsa Eller, Cleo Callahan and Okle Greer; and brother, Raleigh McQueen.

Reford was a United States Army Veteran having honorably served during World War II. He was a Sargent in the 701st Tank Battalion, serving under General Bradley. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Like most men of his generation, Reford grew up farming. He loved to farm and be outdoors. At age 16, Reford served in CCC camps in Washington. He was also a former employee of TDOT. Before losing his vision, Reford loved to read and cut wood. He was a true family man who worked hard to provide for his family, who he loved spending time with.

He was a member of Crandull Church of Christ.

Those left to cherish his memories include his son, Randy McQueen and wife Marty; sister, Lois McQueen Walker; grandson, Ryan McQueen and wife Joanna; great grandchildren, Eliza Mae McQueen and Eleanor Claire McQueen; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Cline Ray Blevins, age 91, of Shady Valley, TN passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Johnson County Community Hospital. A lifelong resident of Shady Valley, he was born on March 16, 1926 to the late George Ray Blevins and Martha Elizabeth Cress Blevins. In addition to his parents Cline was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Campbell Blevins on February 27, 2017; a son Daniel Ray Blevins who passed in 1997; sisters, Luna Mays, Ruth Lewis and Winnie Lewis; brothers, Charlie, Selmer, Wheeler, Carl, Luther, Homer, John and Gurney.

Cline worked for Raytheon Company in Bristol for 30 years. He enjoyed the outdoors especially farming and beekeeping. He had a special love for his four legged friends, his dogs Tito and Brownie Girl.

He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the North Pacific during World War II.

Cline was a life long member of Shady Valley Church of Christ.

Those left to cherish his memories include his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and devoted friend, Ned Blevins. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Trivett was a native of Johnson County and had lived in Carter County most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Martha Dyer Berry and was also preceded in death by her husband, William Paul Trivett, in 1985, five brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Trivett was a homemaker and former owner-operator, with her husband, of the Trivett Grocery in Butler. She was a member of the Little Milligan Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby and Albert Lewis, Spring City, Tenn., and June and Roy Wagner, Butler, and a sister, Sarah Hyder, Elizabethton. Five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Berlie A 'Buck' Barry, age 88, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the Mountain City Care Center.

He was born on February 13, 1924 to the late Daniel Hugh Barry and Mary Alice Grindstaff Barry. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three sisters: Rachel Greer, Lulu Wells and Anna Wells. a brother, Ray Barry.

Berlie was a 1944 graduate of Johnson County High School and a 1946 graduate of Elizabethton Business College. He founded Barry Real Estate Auction Company and after many years of service, retired from the company.

He enjoyed working around his farm and with his cattle. He also enjoyed working in his garden with his wife Mary. Berlie was a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 F&AM and the Jericho Shrine Temple. He was a faithful member of Liberty Christian Church. Berlie loved his family and spending time with them and he will be missed by all.

Berlie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary I. Crussell Barry; daughter, Alice Faye McCloud; sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Gearlene Barry, Wayne and Vickie Barry and Joe and Pat Barry, all of Mountain City, TN; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many special friends.

Jean retired from C&P Telephone Co. and enjoyed her free time attending yard sales. Over the years, Jean and Charlie rescued at least 17 animals. She always made time for family and friends and had the most genuine and sweetest personality.

June Sluder, age 84, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Mountain City Care Center. June was born on June 1, 1937 to the late Ambrose and Bertha Garland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Leslie Sluder; grandson, Shawn; and brothers, Bobby Garland and Jimmy Garland.

AJune was a hard worker who never complained. She had a heart of gold and took wonderful care of her family. June raised huge gardens and enjoyed canning the fruits of her labor. She loved quilting and made many hand sewn quilts over the years. She was a member of Shady Valley Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughters, Dianne Donahue, Cindy Bublinec, and Theresa Taylor; sons, Rick Sluder and David Sluder; sister, Beverly McKinney; brothers, Vernis Garland and Lonnie Garland; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; dear friend, Lee Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.

Dewey Harold Garland, better known to his friends as “Rubberneck,” 76, of Butler, Tenn., passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. He was born in Shady Valley, Tenn., to the late Fleet and Lucy (Wilson) Garland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Colt Davis.
Harold was a truck driver and had been his whole life. He enjoyed what he did and enjoyed spending time with his family. Harold was always on the go. He had a laid back personality and a good sense of humor. He loved to make people laugh and laughing with them. He never met a stranger. He also enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR races, and watching westerns in his spare time.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 52 years, Idoma (Poole) Garland, of the home; daughters, Tammy Bobbitt, Renee and Wayne Hamm and Lea Ann and Richie Shaffer; brothers, James L. N.J. 'Duby' Walker, 78, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. Duby was born in Mountain City, TN on March 29, 1940, to Charles Russell Walker and Nye Blackburn Walker. Duby is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Delos Walker, and a sister Lenna Flora.

Duby was a life-long resident of Johnson County and a graduate of Johnson County High School. Duby worked for Raytheon until he retired. Retirement gave Duby more time to spend in his garden, which was one of his favorite things to pass the time.

Emery 'Tiny' Howard Blevins, age 87, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the Johnston Memorial Hospital of Abingdon, Virginia. He was born on September 3, 1929 to the late Wheeler and Edna Sluder Blevins. In addition to his parents, Tiny was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Camron Melba Brooks.

Tiny was a lifelong resident of Shady Valley. He retired from Carr Brothers at the age of 65. He also worked for the Sluder Brothers and many others for years following his retirement. He loved his family and friends very much and they loved him. Tiny was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He loved going 'to the store' and visiting with his friends.

Tiny was a United States Army Veteran and was stationed in Greenland and TX.

He was a member of the Shady Valley Baptist Church.

Juanita S. Carr, 94, of Bluff City, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, July 29, 2021, from her residence. Juanita was the daughter of the late Elmer and Dorothy Hodges Berry. In addition to her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Carr; two brothers, Ira Berry and James Berry; a son-in-law, Lloyd Elliott; and two brothers-in-law, Ed Wolfe and Carl Bullock.
Juanita was a loving, Christian woman who loved her church family and always helped whenever she was needed because church and God were first in her life. Everyone called her “Granny” because she loved everyone unconditionally and always had a smile. Juanita retired as a seamstress and was a member of Bunker Hill Christian Church where she had a perfect attendance for over 30 years! At the church she was not only a faithful member but had also taught Sunday school and was a member of the Lady’s Circle. In addition to her church functions, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, tending to her flowers and spending time with her grandchildren.

MOUNTAIN CITY - Daniel W. Barry, age 69, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on January 17, 1947 in Mountain City, TN to the late Berlie A. Barry and Mary I. Crussell Barry.

Daniel was a former principal at Little Milligan Elementary School until his retirement in 2001. He was one who loved genealogy and had many names on the tree. Daniel was a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 and an active member of the Dewey Christian Church.

Mr. Carroll was born in Butler, TN and was the son of the late Charles & Nell Ann Tester Carroll. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Clawson Carroll and six brothers and sisters, Jim Carroll, Beulah Haines, baby sister Jeanne Carroll, E.T. Carroll, Lynn Carroll and Betty Garland.

He was a United States World War II Navy Veteran. He served in the Pacific Theater during the Solomon Islands Campaign aboard the USS Helena.

Mr. Carroll was a member of the Indian Motorcycle Club.

He was a Carpenter and Forman for several construction companies.

Survivors include a daughter, Freddie Applegate, Jonesborough; two sisters and three brothers, Kay Arnold and Bob Carroll, both of Johnson City, John Carroll, Rogersville, Bill Carroll, California and Ruby Davis, Stone Mountain, GA; and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 pm Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 pm Saturday prior to the service. Interment services will follow at Monte Vista Burial Park. JOHNSON CITY - Bobby Joe Carroll, 80, Johnson City passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a native of Piney Flats and was a son of the late Charles and Nell Tester Carroll. Bobby had worked as a mechanic for many years at Junction Shell. He loved old westerns, especially “Shane”. Bobby loved Cheetos, cokes, walking and going for rides. He sang bass in The Way of the Cross Quartet for many years. Bobby had a contagious smile and sparkling blue eyes. He loved joking and playing. He never met a stranger and could always brighten up anyone’s day. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Naomi Stines Carroll in 1996; brothers and sisters, Sylva Jean Carroll, Eusaw, James, Lynn and Carson Carroll, Beulah Haines and Betty Garland.

Survivors include his children, Darlene Carroll Holbrook of Limestone, Jeffrey Carroll and wife, Julie of Johnson City, Steven Carroll of Johnson City, Lisa Wineland Hicks and husband, Mark of Hampton and Gary Carroll and wife, Tawana of Johnson City; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill Carroll of California and John Carroll of Rogersville; two sisters, Ruby Davis of Georgia and Kay Arnold of Oak Ridge; his cat “Gizzie”; also many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Bobby will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 5, 2020 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue with Rev. J.T. Prater and Rev. Dan Foster officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the service hour. Burial will follow in Edgefield Cemetery, Piney Flats. Pallbearers will be Dustin and Dylan Carroll, Kyle Greenwell, Johnny Carter, Robby Casey, and Hugh “Wishbone” Scalf.

JOHNSON CITY - Lydia E. Quillen Gamble, age 82, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Abundant Christian Living in Johnson City, Tennessee. She was born in Jonesborough, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Ephriam “Buck” Norris and Millie Tester Norris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1st husband, Reeves M. Quillen; 2nd husband, James “Billy” Gamble; one son-in-law, Ernie Cox, Sr.; one brother and sister-in-law, James Bill Norris and wife Lois; and one sister, Florence White.

Lydia was a housekeeper, and a member of Westerly Heights Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Kay Quillen Cox; her grandchildren, Ernie “Lee” Cox, Jr. and his wife Dawn, and Christie Dawn Cooper and husband Chad; seven great grandchildren, Anthony and wife Brittany Cox, Lita Cox and fiancé Grant Lowe, Brandon Arnett and fiancé Amanda Halverson, Brittani Arnett, Bradley Arnett, Samantha Cooper and Cara Cooper; nine great-great grandchildren, Brayden Cox, Carter Cox, Kyleigh Barnes, Brantley Arnett, Kelly Blake Arnett, Bradley Thomas, Emery Halverson, Jaiden Lowe and Gracie Lowe; two sisters, Willa Vines, and Patsy Rankin; special niece, Angie Leslie and husband Jim; and several nieces and nephews.

Committal Service and Interment will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 3:00 PM at New Bethel Cemetery in Piney Flats, Tennessee, with Rev. Ancel Presnell officiating.

JOHNSON CITY - Archie Victor Tester II , 61 of Johnson City passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 4, 2021 at his residence. He was a native of Sullivan County and was a son of the late Archie and Margaret Hyatt Tester. Archie had worked for DB Electric for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Crain Tester and two brothers, Larry and James Tester.

Survivors include a sister, Nora Townsend and husband, Kenny of Johnson City; a brother, Rick Tester and his wife, Sheila of Johnson City; step-children, Paul Tester of Elizabethton, Dallas Tester of Texas and Crystal Tester of Greeneville; very special friend, Michael Lewis; also several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Private family graveside services for Archie were held Thursday, September 9, 2021 in the Edgefield Cemetery, Piney Flats with Rev. Steve Wilson officiating.

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Elizabeth Stout, passed away early Tuesday morning January 2, 2018 after a brief illness.

Born in Mountain City, Tennessee on October 29, 1933, Elizabeth was raised by her loving grandparents, John and Nora Phillippi.

In addition to her grandparents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Anna Kate Adams Phillippi, sister, Peggy Phillippi Poteat and brother-in-law, Bill Stout.

She married Blaine Stout on June 17, 1952. After a four year stint in the Air Force by Blaine, the couple returned from England and settled in Boone, North Carolina to raise their three sons. Once the boys were in school, Elizabeth returned to school and became a licensed nurse and began work as a surgical nurse at Watauga County Hospital for 28 years.

After retirement, the couple settled back in Mountain City where Elizabeth became involved with the Garden Club, Red Hat Society, Rotary Club, Heritage Hall and her beloved Frist Baptist Church. There, she sang in the choir and was active in her Sunday School Class, WOM and the Bereavement Committee.

Elizabeth leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion and servanthood to her family and community. Anyone who knew her was touched by her kindness and sweetness.

Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 65 years, Blaine Stout; sons and daughters-in-law: David and Debbie Stout of Boone, NC, Donald and Patricia Stout of Mars Hill, NC and Steven and Debbie Stout of Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren: Daniel Stout, Sarah Block and husband David, Kelsey Condon and husband Jack, Kristen Stout, Kimberly Stout, Michael Stout, Joseph Stout and wife Jenny; great-grandchildren: Colette and Henry Block; sister, Lorraine Westrick and husband Dick; brother, Ralph Phillippi and wife Linda; sister-in-law, Brenda Stout; many, many special friends and neighbors and her special four legged friend, her cat, Tigger.

The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Mountain City. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ricky Campbell officiating. Special music will be provided by Pastor Campbell and the church choir. Graveside service and interment will follow the funeral at Phillippi Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Terry Jordan, Todd Grayson, Jim Vincill, Danny Cunningham, Glenn Parson, and Bob Eller. LAUREL BLOOMERY - Janet Shupe Rupard, age 82, passed away March 7, 2023, at her home in Laurel Bloomery. Janet was born July 2, 1940, to the late Frank and Alice Shupe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband of 49 years, Bobby Dean Rupard; sister, Emaline Shupe Nichols and brothers, Jimmy Shupe and Marshall Shupe.

To know her, was to love her. Janet loved to play music with her mom and was known for her baking, especially her peanut butter cookies, fudge, and delicious cakes. She loved working in her flowers, making fried apple pies and spending time with her grandchildren. She also adored her 11 grand puppies. She was loved by all the children at Laurel Elementary School who called her Granny, and she raised as her own over many years. Janet retired from the Johnson County School System after 30 years of employment as a secretary. She was also a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

Those left to cherish her memories include her son, Jeff Rupard and wife Melissa of Laurel Bloomery; daughter, Cindy Cretsinger Heck and husband Bill of Laurel Bloomery; son, Jon Rupard of Laurel Bloomery; grandchildren, Kaleb Cretsinger and Channie Cretsinger and fiancé Knox Cavitt; beloved sister, Barbara Shupe of Butler; brothers, Glen Shupe and wife Wanda of Butler; Frankey Shupe and wife Bebbie of Butler; Mitchell Shupe and wife Elwanda of Johnson City, and Benny Shupe and wife Mary of Mountain City; several nieces and nephews.

Betty Jo Johnson Fritts, age 82, of Hwy 421 N., Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at her home.

She was born on October 18, 1932 to the late Walter Wynn Johnson and Nola Mae Phillippi Johnson.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Spencer Fritts; daughter, Linda Gaye Howard; sister, Mary Ann Johnson Winters; brother, Charles Johnson; son-in-law, Sammy Crosswhite, and nephew, Paul Johnson, Jr. (Bunzie).

Betty enjoyed working outside in her flower beds and gardens. She had a love for animals, especially her dogs and cats.

She loved to visit the Mountain Home National Cemetery where her husband is laid to rest and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her daughters: Peggy Fritts Humphrey and husband Richard of Mountain City, TN and Brinda Kay Howard Crosswhite of Laurel Bloomery, TN; sons: Johnny Ray Howard and wife Brenda of Greenville, TN and Michael Eugene Howard of Laurel Bloomery, TN; brother, Paul E. Johnson, Sr.; sister, Shirley Jean Johnson Mabe; grandchildren: Cody Brown-Dunn, Melissa Crosswhite Robinson, Steve Crosswhite and Jessica Howard; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Forrester, Westin Smith, Jakob Crosswhite and Savannah Crosswhite; special niece, Susan Williams and several other nieces and nephews; special friends: Angie Reece Nelson, Lori Hensley Blevins, Malena Cornett Jones, Donna Porter, Cheryl Lindsey and extra special friend, Joan.

A funeral service was held with Pastors Billy Morefield and Ron Drake officiating.

Graveside service and interment followed at the family cemetery, Phillippi Cemetery.
