Mr. Mike Ward, 91, of 523 Flat Springs Road, Elk Park, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.

He was born Sept. 2, 1913, in Beech Mtn., Avery County, to the late James Monroe and Zona Mills Ward.

Mr. Ward was a retired farmer and a member of Beech Mtn. Regular Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Ray Ward and wife, Lucille; Dennis Ward and wife, Kate; Elbert Ward and wife, Sally; and J.D. Ward and wife, Eileen, all of Elk Park; three daughters, Velma Gragg and husband, Cubie, of Elk Park; Mrs. Reba Church and Shirley Miller and husband, Eddie, all of Butler, Tenn. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Stines Ward; one son, Grady Ward; four sisters, Jane Greene, Grace Harmon, Ann Oaks and Eliza Stines; and five brothers, Dayton Ward, Ronda Ward, George Ward, Tom Ward and Raleigh Ward.

Services were conducted Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Eric Cornett and Mr. Keith Church.

Graveside services and burial were conducted Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Ward Cemetery in Elk Park.

Mr. Jack Dana Guy, 79, of Jonas Ridge, and formerly of the Beech Creek community, died Tuesday evening, June 17, 2008 at Cannon Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Guy was the owner of Guy's Folk Toys and was of the Baptist faith.

She was born on May 20, 1928, in Beech Mountain, NC, a daughter of the late Conley Phillips and the late Susie Guy Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her Parents; Husband: Dallas Storie; Daughter: Janelle Hunt; four brothers and one sister.

Luella enjoyed going to the Avery Co. Senior Center, Watching "Days of Our Lives" and watching "Hee Haw." She also enjoyed cooking, but most importantly she loved and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Roger Lee Guy (Feb. 1, 1949 to May 15, 2019), Beloved Brother and Uncle, age 70, from the Flat Springs Community passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Duke University Medical Center.

Roger was a lifelong resident of Flat Springs, NC and lifetime member of Flat Springs Baptist Church. He began working for WAMY at age 16 seeding pines. Throughout his life he worked at Lees-McRae College, farming, carpentry, and gave 30 years of faithful service with U.S. Textiles in Newland in maintenance and security. He conscientiously and happily looked after his Mother and her home, as well as watching over and helping his sister. He was the best uncle anyone could ever hope to have. He was a loyal friend. He was the best of us.

Roger was preceded in death by his Father: Stewart B. Guy; and his Mother: Susie Ward Guy Trivett; his Step-father: Haskel B. Trivett; and one Brother: Kurt S. Guy. He is survived by his Brother: Vernon M. Guy and wife Karen; and his Sisters: Deloris Guy Lentz and Linda Guy Clawson, and Sister-in-law: Nancy Guy, as well as special Cousin: Lois Bunton. Roger is also survived by his Nephews and Nieces: Tony Guy, Elaine Guy Lorenzen, Lincoln Clawson, Stewart Lentz, Steve Clawson, Byron Clawson, Rebeka Guy Clawson, Ralph E. Lentz II, Shannon Guy, Chastity Guy and Travis Guy. Several grand-nieces and nephews also survive him. He was especially close to Arizona Clawson Gragg, Emily Clawson, Liberty Clawson, and Dakota Guy. Roger leaves behind many friends, and particularly his special Friend: Jo-Anne Dugger. Dean Estep and Brian Miller will officiate the services. Reba and Keith Church will provide special singing.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Flat Springs Baptist Church, with the funeral service at 3 p.m. Interment will follow in the Flat Springs Cemetery. His seven nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mary Lenos Trivett, 78, Brown Avenue, Johnson City, died Saturday, February
19, 2005, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Mrs. Trivett was a native of Avery County, N.C., and a daughter of the late
John Bunyan Trivett Sr. and Vana McGuire Trivett. She was also preceded in
death by her husband, Ulysses G. Trivett Sr., and by two brothers, a sister
and a stepson.

Mrs. Trivett graduated from Cranberry High School in North Carolina and moved
to Johnson City to work and live. After a short time at American Optical
Company, she worked for the Kingsport Press. During this time she married
Ulysses G. Trivett Sr.

Mrs. Trivett attended business college in Johnson City and earned a
certificate in stenography. She attended night classes at East Tennessee State
University, studying real estate, and then helped her husband incorporate
Trivett's Inc., and they along with U.G. Trivett Jr., built apartments
throughout the southeast. By this time she and her husband had other real
estate holdings, which she helped manage. Mrs. Trivett attended management
seminars at Appalachian State University and Georgia State University. She
earned her registered apartments manager certification and continued to manage
until the mid 1980s.

Mrs. Trivett was listed in Personalities of the South in the '70s on two
different occasions. She was past president of the Altrusa International of
Johnson City, the American Legion Auxiliary, National Conference of Women in
Chambers of Commerce, a member of the American Business Women's Association,
past officer in the Washington County Republican Women and the Tri-Cities
Apartment Association. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Melvin Trivett, Nashville; a daughter, Sherri Trivett
Kay, Johnson City; two brothers, Vernon Trivett, Pensacola, Fla., and Clark
Trivett, West End, N.C.; and three sisters, Georgia Marston, Peoria, Ill.,
Jewel Nunley, Elizabethton, and Judy Lynn, Newton, N.C.; and a grandson,
Michael Blake Trivett, Johnson City. A step-granddaughter, a step-grandson and
several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, from the East
Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Hensley, Rev. Willard
Warfield and Rev. James Dampier officiating. Graveside services will follow at
Monte Vista Burial Park.

Jewel Trivett Nunley was called to heaven May 7, 2022. Jewel was born to Vana McGuire Trivett and John Trivett in Beech Mountain, North Carolina.
She married her school sweetheart, William R. Nunley (Bill) in 1955. She began her career while raising her family by selling encyclopedias and taking interior design courses. Her interest in interior design sparked her entrepreneurial spirit and she, along with her husband Bill, parlayed their combined talents into a successful furniture and appliance business that served the community for many years.
Jewel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill, and son, Anthony (Tony). She was also predeceased by her brothers Pat, Clarence and Vernon and sisters, Wilma, Lenos and Georgia.
Those left to cherish her memory and light of her immense love include three daughters, Diana, Delilah and Deborah and sons-in-law Wayne Bartley and Ed Gorman; four grandchildren, Brooks, Stuart and wife Emily, Nicholas and Myranda. Beloved siblings Judy Lynn (Johnny) and Clark Trivett (Judy), sisters-in-law Mary Jane Hart, Nola Gay Trivett, and Elizabeth Nunley and brother-in-law Jerry Baird survive. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Eddie Joe Guy, age 68, of Mountain City, TN passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Frye Hospital in Hickory, NC. He was born on March 11, 1954 to the late Ray Odell Guy and Thelma Lee Hicks Guy.

Eddie was a truck driver for 50 years and he was the best. Eddie and Cindy were extremely close, they loved each other deeply. They trucked together, gardened together and did almost everything together. The Most important thing to Eddie was serving God. He loved the Lord. He was a Sunday school superintendent, played guitar and sang in church. Eddie was a blessing to everyone who knew him and he never met a stranger. He was loved by many and will be missed deeply.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 25 years, Cindy Burton Guy; his daughter Kelly Guy and friend David; his two daughters, not by blood, but by love, Melissa Robinson and husband William and Tonya Burton and fiancé, Brian Willis; his five precious grandchildren, Danielle, Dalton, Desirea, Derek, and Dara Bella.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Grace Baptist Church ( Foscoe, NC) with Preacher Tyler Street and Preacher Jeff Guy to officiate. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral from the Ward Family Cemetery.

JOHNSON CITY - Melvin Blake Trivett, 65, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Trivett was born on September 17, 1952, to the late Ulysses G. and Mary Lenos Trivett in Johnson City, TN, where he lived all his life. Mr. Trivett was a 1971 graduate of Science Hill High School. Some people will best remember him riding his motorcycle all over town and in the mountains. He enjoyed fishing, playing guitar, dancing, and playing pool. His favorite board game was "Risk". In his younger years, he was famous for predicting upcoming music legends, such as the Bee Gees and the Eagles. He was so talented and intelligent, he built a working radio station that broadcasted in our area, from his backyard in his sister's dollhouse that their dad had built.

Mr. Trivett leaves behind a son, Michael Trivett and his wife Amanda; a sister, Sherri Kay and her husband Alvin Elrod; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Richard Sproles and his friend Melinda for their special friendship to Mr. Trivett.

Visitation will be held for Mr. Trivett at Bread of Life Fellowship located at 2308 Watauga Road in Johnson City, TN 37601 on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM and a Memorial service will follow beginning at 6:30 PM. Pastor Todd Ellis is officiating.
