    Notes:

    Bertha T. Woodby, age 86, 743 Piney Grove Rd., Hampton, died Sunday, April
    4, 2004, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness.
    A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Dempsey and
    Lodema Tolley.
    Mrs. Woodby was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
    She was a homemaker.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Woodby, and two sons,
    Estell Woodby and Gordon Woodby.
    Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Dennis Smith of
    Hampton; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Ernest and Virginia Woodby, of
    Elizabethton; Ross and Susan Woodby of Hampton; Romily and Claudette Woodby of
    Hampton, and Paul Woodby, of Elizabethton; one sister, Mae Woodby of Hampton;
    13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and
    best friend, Avenell Arnett, of Hampton also survive.
    The funeral service for Bertha Tolley Woodby, will be conducted at 8 p.m.
    Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church with Rev.
    B. F. McKinney, Rev. Jonas Revis, and Rev. Mike Mills officiating. Music will
    be under the direction of the church choir. The family will receive friends
    from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service at the church or friends may
    call at the residence at any time. The graveside service and burial will be
    conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at the Woodby Family Cemetery.
    Active pallbearers will be Kevin Vines, Ken Woodby, Rocky Woodby, Gerald Woodby,
    Jim Woodby, and Paul Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Woodby, Ben
    Woodby, Ryan Phipps, Lucas Heaton, and Kevin Burns. Those who plan to attend the
    graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Wednesday
    to go in procession to the cemetery.

    Caleb Tolley, 79, 738 Piney Grove Road, Hampton, died Monday, November 22,
    1999, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center after an extended illness.
    Mr. Tolley was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Dempsey and
    Lodema Tolley.
    Mr. Tolley was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He
    entered the service January 1942, took training at the Jackson Air Base,
    Jackson, Miss., and served in the European Theater. He was a recipient of Seven
    Bronze Stars, The Good Conduct Medal and The Good Conduct Ribbon. He received
    the European Theater Ribbon. While in service he attended the St. James Church
    in Florence, Italy and other churches in Italy. He was a Disabled American
    Veteran.
    He was a member of the Fairview Free Will Baptist Church but attended the
    Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church, where he received a 14-year perfect
    attendance in Sunday School.
    Survivors include his wife, Kate Stevens Tolley; four daughters, Brenda
    Simerly and Barbara Moffett, both of Hampton, Helen Blevins and Janice Stout,
    both of Elizabethton; two sisters, Mae Woodby, Unicoi, and Bertha Woodby,
    Hampton; a brother, Joshua Tolley, Elizabethton; 12 grandchildren, Denise Norris,
    Lisa White, Angelia Smith, Scott Simerly, April Townsend, Kim Simerly, Kristi
    Simerly, Randy Woodby, Kevin Woodby, Tawana Holland, LaDanna Boone and Bobby
    Stout Jr.; seven great-grandchildren, Katie Jo Norris, Andrea Smith, Alexis
    Townsend, Morgan Guy, Taylor Julian, Tyler Woodby and Emrie Boone; also
    special friends, Tonya Buchanan, George Stanley and Gwyn Cole. Several nieces and
    nephews also survive.
    Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

    TOLLEY -- Funeral services for Caleb Tolley, 79, 738 Piney Grove Road,
    Hampton, who went to be with his Lord Monday, November 22, 1999, will be
    conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bobby Stout and
    Rev. Dexter Brummitt officiating. The Pleasant Beach Quartet and Tawana
    Holland, soloist, will provide the music. Entombment services will be conducted at
    10 a.m. Friday in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park.
    Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3,
    Kingsport. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at
    930 a.m. Friday, will be Bobby Stout Jr., Ken Woodby, Byrl McKinney, Tip
    Smith, Arthur Blevins, Kenneth Randy Woodby, Kevin Lee Woodby, Lance Harsh,
    Stephen Harsh, Robert Barnett Jr., George Stanley and Scott Simerly. Honorary
    pallbearers will be Earl Jones, Vic Harrison, Kenny McKinney, Dennis Clark, Hayes
    Woodby, Allen Holtsclaw, Vernon Holtsclaw, Stanley Hill, Carl Stevens,
    Conley Woodby, William Cole, Ronnie McKinney, Barney McKinney, Cecil Hyder, C.L.
    Woodby and Albert Ellison. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
    Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family
    and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 930 a.m. Friday to go to the
    cemetery. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

    Joshua Tolley, 77, Pine Ridge Care Center, formerly of 738
    Piney Grove Road, Hampton, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at
    Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
    Mr. Tolley was a native of Carter County and a son of the
    late Dempsey and Lodema Tolley. He was also preceded in
    death by a sister, Vistia Woodby, and two brothers, Caleb
    Tolley and Cleophias Tolley.
    Mr. Tolley was a retired farmer. He was of the Free Will
    Baptist Faith and attended the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist
    Church.
    Survivors include two sisters, Bertha Woodby and Mae
    Woodby, both of Hampton; a special sister-in-law, Kate
    Tolley, Hampton; two special nieces, Dorothy Williams and
    Karen Smith, both of Hampton, and several other nieces and
    nephews.
    Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

    TOLLEY -- Funeral services for Joshua Tolley, 77, Pine
    Ridge Care Center, formerly of 738 Piney Grove Road,
    Hampton, who died Monday, April 23, 2001, will be conducted
    at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at Memorial Funeral Chapel
    with the Rev. Bobby Stout and the Rev. Dexter Brummitt
    officiating. Music will be provided by the Piney Grove Free
    Will Baptist Church Quartet. Graveside services and
    interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, in the
    Woodby Family Cemetery, Piney Grove Road, Hampton. Active

    at 10:55 a.m. Thursday, will be Ernest Woodby, Paul Woodby,
    C.L. Woodby, Romily Woodby, Ross Woodby, Jimmy Woodby and
    Robert Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Hyder,
    Dennis Clark, Larry Tolley, Ray Tolley, George Stanley,
    Steve Cochran, Lester Carver and Reynolds Harrison. The
    family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at
    the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of
    his sisters, Bertha and Mae Woodby, 745 Piney Grove Road,
    Hampton. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery
    at 10:55 a.m. Thursday. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in
    charge of arrangements.
