Surviving are two children: Mrs. Joe PROFFITT and Clyde Williams of Butler; also 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She joined the Dyson Grove Baptist Church at an early age, and was the daughter of Riley and Tillie EGGERS of Watauga county, N.C.

The funeral was held this afternoon at Midway Baptist Church, with Rev. J. J. Richardson and T. B. Freeman in charge. Interment was in Midway Church cemetery.

George Reeves Eggers, 96, Campbellsville, son of the late John Eggers and Nancy Cable Eggers, was born in Ash County, N.C., Aug. 6, 1894. He died at 9:50 p.m., Sunday, July 28, 1991, in Greensburg after an illness. He was a member of the Salem Baptist Church and was retired from the Taylor County School System. He was also a veteran of World War I, having served his country in the United States Army. He was married to Gertrude Riall on Nov. 8, 1924. She preceded him in death April 17, 1980. He was also preceded in death by his son and his grandson, William Doyle Eggers on March 18, 1991, and Dale Keith Gardner on Dec. 27, 1955. He is survived by one daughter, Nell Gardner, Campbellsville; two granddaughters and one grandson, Patty Wagster, Dayton, Texas, and Cheryl Thompson and William D. Eggers Jr., both of Canton, Ohio; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. The funeral was at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville with the Rev. Howard Lee and the Rev. George R. Gaddie officiating. Fred Price, age 63, veteran of World War I, died in the Veteran's Hospital at Mountain Home, Tennessee, on October 5. He had been in ill health for several years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 8, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with the Reverend E. O. Gore and the Reverend Roscoe Greene in charge of the rites at the church.

Military services will be held at the graveside and all veterans are requested to be present.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Charlotte Cole, Alice Tester and Snow Caraway; three brothers, Claude Eggers, Jack Eggers and infant Dale Eggers; a grandson, Todd Eggers; a sister-in-law, Ruby Allen Eggers; and a brother-in-law, Marlin Cole.
Services were conducted Friday morning at 11 o'clock at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington, officiated by the Rev. Frankie Matthews. Burial followed in Forest Hill Memorial Park in Lexington.

Etta Davis, age 91, of 727 Dutch Creek Road, Banner Elk, died Monday morning, October 15, 2012, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.

Mrs. Davis was born in the Dutch Creek Community, March 12, 1921, a daughter of the late Walter Eugene Eggers and Tempie Catherine Shook Eggers. She was a homemaker and a member of Clarks Creek Baptist Church.

Mrs. Davis is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Triplett and husband Roy of Vilas, and Brenda Davis of Banner Elk; two granddaughters, Lori Miller and fiance Nathan Church of Boone, and Lynn Hogan and husband James of Fleetwood; two grandsons, Bryan Miller of Banner Elk, and Jordan Triplett and wife Crystal of Vilas; three great-granddaughters, Ashley Kaczmarczyk, Chloe Miller, and Victoria Smith; three great-grandsons, Cody Swift, Corey Swift, and Patrick Smith; two great great-granddaughters, Taylor and Olivia Kaczmarczyk, and two sisters, Mary Lou Eggers and husband Hoover of Banner Elk, and Betty Faye Hughes and husband Dee of Roan Mountain, Tennessee. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hildreth Davis; one daughter, Patricia Miller; three sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services for Etta Eggers Davis will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, October 17, 2012, at 1:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 12:00 until 1:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Reverend Zane Tester. Burial will follow in the Matney-Liberty Cemetery.

Mr. Claude James Eggers, 77, of 769 Rominger Road, Banner Elk, the Matney community, died Thursday morning, Sept. 30, 1999, at Watauga Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 2, 1922 in Watauga County. Mr. Eggers was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of White Rock Baptist Church. He owned and operated a dairy farm and retired from Security Oil Company in Concord.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hatley Eggers; one son, Carroll Eggers and his wife, Linda, of Concord; a step-daughter, Sandy Davis and husband, Bill, of Boone; two step-sons, Bill Allen, Jr. and wife, Pam, of Fayetteville and Tim Allen and wife, Trina, of Charlotte; two grandsons, Sonny and Darrell Eggers, both of Concord; two step-grandchildren; three brothers, Fred Eggers of Boone, Buster Eggers and Jack Eggers, both of Lexington; and three sisters, Etta Davis and Mary Lou Eggers, both of Banner Elk, and Betty Faye Hughes of Roan Mountain, Tenn.

He was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Valle Crucis, Watauga County, to Walter Eugene and Tempie Shook Eggers.

Mr. Eggers was a 1944 graduate of Cove Creek High School.

He retired from Hound Ears Resort after 30 years in property services.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served in Italy, France, England and Germany, and was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and Infantryman Badge.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, and Boone Optimist Club.

He attended Greenway Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Buster, Claude, Jack and infant Joe Dale Eggers; three sisters, Charlotte Cole, Alice Tester and Snow Caraway.

He was born July 30, 1927, in Yancey County, to the late Walter Eugene and Tempie Shook Eggers.

Mr. Eggers was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired truck driver from Food Lion, Inc. He was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 13 and was of the Baptist faith.

She was born Oct. 11, 1929, in the Dutch Creek community of Watauga County, a daughter of the late Eugene and Tempie Shook Eggers. She was a former nurses aide and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil Tester; four sons, Terry Tester, Jeffrey Tester and Kevin Tester, all of Lexington and W.T. Tester of Salisbury; one daughter, Mrs. Jimmy (Ala Jo) Koontz of Lexington; four brothers, Buster Eggers and Jack Eggers, both of Lexington, Claude Eggers of Route 3, Banner Elk and Fred Eggers of Boone; four sisters, Mrs. Etta Davis and Mrs. Mary Eggers, both of Route 4, Banner Elk; Mrs. Snow Caraway of Newland and Mrs. Betty Hughes of Roan Mountain, Tenn. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mr. Cecil Gary Tester and a sister, Mrs. Charlotte Cole.

Services will be Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington with the Rev. Max Shoaf and the Rev. Lynne Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park in Lexington.

Mary is survived by two sons, Steve Eggers and his girlfriend Mandy Arnett, both of Banner Elk, and Tracy Eggers and wife Annette of Valle Crucis; two daughters, Jane Presnell and husband Dexter of Johnson City, TN, and Evelyn Main and husband Roy of Banner Elk; four granddaughters, Sherry Blackburn of Johnson City, TN, Catherine Tester of Banner Elk, Dawn Presnell of Johnson City, TN, and Brittney Forrester of Valle Crucis; two grandsons, James Main of Boone, and Chris Presnell of Johnson City, TN; two great-grandsons, Hunter Tester of Banner Elk, and Landon Main of Boone; five great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Tester and Rayleigh Tester, both of Banner Elk, Gina Presnell, Mariah Presnell and Natalie Presnell, all of Johnson City, TN; one sister, Betty Hughes of Roan Mountain, TN, and one special sister-in-law, Linda Eggers of Banner Elk. ROAN MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Betty F. Hughes, 82, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with her Lord, on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. Mrs. Hughes was born in Watauga County, NC and was a daughter of the late Eugene and Tempie Shook Eggers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, S.D. Hughes, in 2013; five brothers and five sisters. Mrs. Hughes was a loving mother and a faithful member of Burbank Freewill Baptist Church for over forty-two years. She was an LPN who graduated from nurses training in 1957.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Eddie Hughes of the home and several nieces and nephews.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Hughes will be conducted on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at 7:00 PM in the Burbank Freewill Baptist Church with Richard Blevins, and Randy English, Ministers, officiating. Music will be under the direction of the church. The family will receive friends in the church from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Sunday prior to the service and at the residence at other times.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 2:30 PM at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from friends and family. Those wishing to attend are invited to meet the family at the Burbank Freewill Baptist Church at 1:30 PM on Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thank you to all Mrs. Hughes' friends and church members for the care and compassion shown to her and the family during her illness.

Mrs. Caraway was a native of Avery County, N.C., and a daughter of the late Eugene and Tempie Shook Eggers. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Cole and Alice Tester, and a brother, Dale Joe Eggers. Mrs. Caraway was a nurse. Survivors include her husband, Ben Hayden Caraway, of the home; a daughter, Karen Howell, Wilmington, N.C.; a son, Mickey Caraway, Newland, N.C.; three sisters, Etta Davis and Mary Lou Eggers, both of Valle Crucis, N.C., and Betty Faye Hughes, Roan Mountain; and four brothers, Jack Eggers and Buster Eggers, both of Lexington, N.C., Claude Eggers, Matney, N.C., and Fred Eggers, Boone, N.C. Three grandchildren also survive.

(Minneapolis Community), who died Tuesday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday from the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Beers and Rev. Brown Howell officiating. Mrs. Edens had lived most of her life in Elizabethton. She was retired from Pharmacil-Baxter Corporation in Johnson City and was presently employed as a Food Sampler at Food City. She was a member of West Side Christian Church and the Women's Fellowship Sunday School Class where she had served as president for several years.

Louise Eggers Potter, 92, of Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at Christian Care Center of Bristol. She was born in Butler, Tenn., the daughter of the late Jobe Eggers Sr. and Bertha Clarke Eggers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Fred Potter; three sons, Ronnie, Michael and Jonathan Potter; five brothers, Edward "Bus" Eggers, Bob Eggers, Doran Eggers, Charles Eggers and Lane Eggers; and three sisters, Elma Eggers, Hope Miller and Geraldine Brewer.
Louise was a resident of Bristol and Elizabethton and a member of Brookside Baptist Church. She faithfully served alongside her husband, Rev. Fred Potter, in various churches and ministries. Together they co-founded Brookside Baptist Church, Tri-State Children's Home and Charity Baptist Missions. She loved to travel, fish and playing games. Louise was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by one daughter, Janice Gentry; three grandchildren, Tim Hale and wife Donna, Melanie Trinkle and husband Tommy and Melissa Carrier Vincill and husband Sam; three great-grandchildren, David Motley, Kasey Hale and Hannah Vincill; one brother, Jobe Eggers Jr. and wife Billie; one sister, Lucille Carr; her furry dog friend, Flossie; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, August 2, at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home, Bristol, Tenn. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Michael Nixon and Rev. Ricky Potter officiating. The committal service and interment will be held Friday, August 3, at 1 p.m. in Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol, Tenn. Thelma Eggers Cutshall, 91, of Elizabethton, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2015.
She was born in Old Butler and raised there along with her brothers, Wayne and Homer, and sister, Louise, during the Great Depression by her parents, Lawrence and Etta Eggers. Thelma had an amazing memory for detail and often entertained friends and relatives with stories of that time and place. She was known for her letters to the editor and was not shy about giving politicians a piece of her mind.
Until the last year of her life Thelma lived independently with the help of her longtime caregiver, Emma Peters. She loved Bingo, garage sales and her dog, Sam, worked the crossword and read the Bible every day.
Thelma was a devout Baptist and was a longtime and wellloved member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church, where she often dispensed advice and encouragement to younger members. In her last months, she was known by the staff at Ivy Hall Nursing Home as "Miss Thelma."
Mrs. Cutshall is survived by her daughter, Jonnie Williams, Johnson City; son James Noel Smith, Unicoi; and was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Cutshall; and her eldest daughter, Randi Dugger. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Homer and Wayne; and her first husband, Reece E. Smith. Her grandchildren include Carole Annach, Rochester NH, John Matthew Dugger, Columbia SC, Shanna Farrell, Cookeville, Greg Galliher, of Limestone, Geoffrey Galliher, Church Hill, Lauren Perkins, of Greenville SC, Daniel Smith, San Francisco; eight greatgrandchildren; and 5 greatgreat grandchildren.
At her request, Thelma will be interred with her beloved late husband, Bill, at the VA cemetery, Mountain Home.

He was born in Butler, Tennessee, a son of the late Dewey and Addie Eggers White. Mr. White served in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from the Tennessee Department of Revenue Tax Enforcement Division in 1990. Mr. White was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church, having served as a deacon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Slemp was a homemaker and a member of Slagle United Methodist Church.

ELIZABETHTON - Sherry Lynn Lipford Kyte, age 71, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at her residence.

She was born to Glenn (Buster) Lipford and Margaret Peters Lipford Edens on July 17, 1947, in Johnson County, TN, but lived most of her life in Carter County. She was proceeded in death by her parents, grandparents, Earl and Pearl Lipford of Butler, and Elijah and Ellen Eggers Peters of Elizabethton and two aunts, Ruth Lipford Williams and Mildred Peters Hart.

Sherry was a graduate of Happy Valley High School, Class of 1965. She worked at Sears for eight and one-half years and retired from Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank after thirty-nine and one-half years.

She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-three years, James Russell Kyte; a devoted son, David Glen Kyte, Elizabethton, TN; her favorite granddaughter, Taylor Jules Kyte, Charlotte, NC; one sister, Glenda (Wayne) Treadway, Dandridge, TN; one nephew, William Glenn Treadway, Murray, KY; cousin/sister, Sue Carol (Darrell) Ward, Butler, TN and many cousins.

Sherry was also blessed with a large family of Kyte-in-laws, whom she loved dearly; special friends, Sherry Maines and Ginny McGee; her Sims Hill Christian Church family; members of The Followers Sunday School Class and special Elizabethton Federal Bank family.

Special caregivers to Sherry were Teresa Phipps, Linda Henry, Shoddie Kyte, Sherry Maines, Ginny McGee, Debbie Reeser, Sue Carol Ward and Glenda Treadway.

Sherry was an active member of Sims Hill Christian Church where she served on several committees including the Youth Committee. She taught children to love Jesus for over fifty years. Being a witness for Jesus was her passion and her faith in Jesus never wavered. She was a strength to all and set an awesome example to her family and friends on how to live for Jesus and love others on a daily basis.

A service to honor the life of Sherry Lynn Lipford Kyte will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 6, 2018 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Mr. Bret Jones, minister officiating. Music will be under the direction of Lisa Carter. JONESBOROUGH - Mr. Gregory Robert Eggers, age 65, Jonesborough, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 at The Waters of Roan Highlands, Roan Mtn. TN.

Mr. Eggers was born in Elizabethton, TN and lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia for over twenty years. He was the son of the late William Robert (Bob) & Henrietta Carrico Eggers. He was also preceded in death by a niece, Brittney Eggers Maye.

He attended ETSU almost four years and finished his degree while serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Navy with over twenty years of service.

He worked at the Southeastern Training Center for the State of VA in Chesapeake for over seven years.

He loved running, old movies, a good joke and most of all he loved to sing for people.

Survivors include a brother, Kim Eggers (Sharon), Elizabethton; sisters, Linda Eggers Walsh (Greg), Jonesborough and Donna Michelle Eggers, Houston, Texas; nieces, Kelly Senn (Nick), Erwin, Kristi Hutson (fiancé Jeff Griffen), Goochland, VA; great-nephew, Christopher Duff, (fiancé Amber Boley); great nieces, Destiny Senn and Kaydance Senn; great-great nephew, Theodore (Theo) Allen Duff.

The family would like to thank the Staff at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Waters of Roan Highlands, and Amedysis Hospice for their care of Mr. Eggers.

Mack R. Lyons, 76, born May 28, 1942 in Elizabethton, TN died September 12, 2018 at Vanderbilt, Medical Center in Nashville after an extended illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence "C.A." "Jack" Lyons and Elizabeth Greer Lyons, and a nephew, Flynn Cole.

He is survived by his wife Patsy Whitlock Lyons (who cared very patiently for me during my illness), son: Richard "Dickie" Lyons (Rachel), daughters: Julie Shook (John) and Lori Wilson (Mike), grandsons: David Lyons (Bri), Seth Lyons, Stephen Wilson, Eric Wilson, and Nicholas Wilson, granddaughters: Kelly Lyons, Ashley Lyons and Leah Lyons, a great-grandchild due to be born next April, sisters: Carolyn Dail and Joan Bennett, Powell, TN, nephews: Brady Williams and Allan Cole (Lynne), nieces: Marsha Sparks and April Snellings (Larry).

Mack retired from Holston Defense Corp., Human Resources Dept. in January 1999 after 33 years of service, after which he enjoyed restoring and selling antiques.

He attended Elizabethton High and Milligan College, played football at EHS, and was a light heavy-weight boxer for the late Don Marshall.

He was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he served in many ways throughout the years.

Mack experienced a disabling illness in recent years. God allowed him to rededicate his life to Him during that illness with counsel from Rev. Ron Owens. Ask Him, He can do the same for you.
