Miss Rebecca Cable, 94 of Campbellsville, who had been a patient at the Green Hill Manor Nursing Home in Greensburg Ky, for the past seven years. Daughter of the late Mr. James Wesley Cable and Mrs. Nancy Green Cable, was born in Watauga County, North Carolina, August 14, 1884. She died at 12 noon, Saturday March 10, 1979, at the McDowell Wing of the Jane Todd Crawford Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. She had professed faith in Christ early in life and was a member of the Acton Baptist Mission. She is survived by two nephews and one niece and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 12, at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Harden Hosey.

George Reeves Eggers, 96, Campbellsville, son of the late John Eggers and Nancy Cable Eggers, was born in Ash County, N.C., Aug. 6, 1894. He died at 9:50 p.m., Sunday, July 28, 1991, in Greensburg after an illness. He was a member of the Salem Baptist Church and was retired from the Taylor County School System. He was also a veteran of World War I, having served his country in the United States Army. He was married to Gertrude Riall on Nov. 8, 1924. She preceded him in death April 17, 1980. He was also preceded in death by his son and his grandson, William Doyle Eggers on March 18, 1991, and Dale Keith Gardner on Dec. 27, 1955. He is survived by one daughter, Nell Gardner, Campbellsville; two granddaughters and one grandson, Patty Wagster, Dayton, Texas, and Cheryl Thompson and William D. Eggers Jr., both of Canton, Ohio; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. The funeral was at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville with the Rev. Howard Lee and the Rev. George R. Gaddie officiating. ELIZABETHTON - Godfrey D. "Jim" Cable, 88, Elizabethton formerly of Hampton, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late James P. and Nancy Ann Stout Cable. He had lived in Carter County since 1951. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation having worked there for 45 years. Jim was also a farmer and a beekeeper. He was a member of the Carter County Cattlemen's Association, Rittertown Baptist Church, and Roan Creek Masonic Lodge #679. He was also a Shriner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Cora Alice Cable, Bertie Holloway, and Fannie Dugger and three brothers: Spencer, Howard, and Bobby Joe Cable.

Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gereel Aldridge Cable; two daughters, Carol Roberts of Elizabethton, and Teresa Brinkley and husband Bill of Jonesborough; three grandchildren, Erin Brinkley, Benjamin Brinkley and Whitney Roberts; sister-in-law Amy Smith; brother-in-law Garrett Aldridge and his wife Regina; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Stout and Rev. Dean Smith officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016, at the Rittertown Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday are Tim Aldridge, Dennis Cable, Jimmy Cable, Kenneth Dugger, Richard Dugger, Scottie Hayes, Jerome Pate, Keith Pate, and Jack Smith. David Hamilton "Ham" Swift, age 86, Rte. 3, Mountain City, Doe Valley community, died in Johnson City Memorial Hospital Wednesday at 3:5$(sic) p.m. after a short illness. He was a native of Johnson County, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Henson Swift; a retired farmer and member of Dewey Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Stacy Swift, Mountain City and Rod E. Swift, Elizabethton; two daughters, Mrs. Roy Holloway, and Mrs. Bonny Swift, both of Mountain City; four sisters, Mrs. Joe Fenner, Bluff City, Mrs. D.A. Ward, Neva, Mrs. Lennie Lewis, Mountain City, Mrs. Callie Tester, Bruceville, Ind.; and 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted from Dewey Christian Church Saturday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Virgil Booher officiating. Burial was in Wilson cemetery.

Tina Dugger Greene, age 96, of 184 Old Draft Road, Butler, TN, passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2004 at her residence. Tina was born July 29, 1908, to the late J.A. and Iva Lee Tester Dugger. She was the oldest surviving member of the Sugar Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Spurgeon Greene, three sisters: Bonnie Wilson, Reta Wolfe, and Mollie Stanton; and four brothers: L.R. Dugger, Fred Dugger, Mark Dugger, and Norman Dugger.

Survivors include one daughter, Tina L. Bright; four sons: Darrell and wife Ola Mae, John D. and wife Betty, Roy, and Bobby Greene; two special grandchildren whom she helped raise: Kevin and Shannon Greene; seven other grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friend: Teresa Bunton; and two special Hospice nurses: Pam Bunting, and Sandra Blevins.

Ms. Trivette retired from Blue Ridge Shoe Company as an assembly worker and was a member of Piney Grove Church of Christ in the Poga Community.

He was born on July 16, 1940, in Johnson County, TN to the late Charlie Anderson and Altie Moody Anderson. In addition to his parents, Arvis was preceded in death by two sons, Billy Anderson and Michael Anderson, sisters, Louise Anderson, Inez Shull, Clara Lunceford, Kathleen Arnold and Edith Potter, brothers, Norman Anderson, John Anderson, Raymond Anderson and Jim Anderson.

Arvis worked over 19 years at the Levi Strauss plant. He was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church. Arvis was a member of the Doe Valley Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed gardening when he was able.

She was a faithful member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church, where she taught the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class for many years. Mrs. Greene was a loving mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Greene was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Darrell J. Greene; and brother, Hollis Anderson.

Survivors include one daughter, Lois M. Greene and husband, Kenneth, of Vilas; and one son, Arthur Greene and wife, Daphne, and one grandson Timothy Greene and wife, Laura, all of Butler, Tenn.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Sugar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Sorrells, the Rev. Ray Greene and the Rev. Doug Ranshaw officiating. Music was by the Sugar Grove Quartet and choirs of Sugar Grove and Willow Valley.

Martha Bell Greer, 93, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton.
A native of Avery County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Cloyd H. and Mary Harmon Parlier. She had lived in Elizabethton for several years.
Mrs. Greer worked at Milligan College in the Dinning Department for several years. She was a member of True Gospel Baptist Church. She loved to quilt, sew and loved to travel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dan E. Greer; a daughter, Selma Greer; four brothers, Clint, Earnest, Rubin and Troy; and a sister, Sally.
Survivors include her children, Wanda Sue Greer Jones and husband Ray, Fleetwood, N.C., and Daryl E. Greer and wife Lois, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Cynthia Y. Mr. Ernest Edward Parlier, 76, of Old Beech Mountain, Elk Park, N.C., died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center, after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 5, 1927 in Avery County, the son of the late Cloyd and Mary Harmon Parlier.

Mr. Parlier was a Deacon at Fall Creek Baptist Church and a retired carpenter.

JOHNSON CITY - Lorna R. Wilson, Johnson City, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Lorna was born on January 1, 1930 to Smith and Pearl Carter Davenport, in Elizabethton. She was a member of Cash Hollow Presbyterian Church and retired from Leon Fernbach. She was a loving wife and mother.

In addition to her parents, Lorna was preceded in death by: her beloved husband, Dan Wilson; three sons, George, Tom and Danny Wilson; one daughter, Cindy Arnold; five brothers, George, Ferris, Leroy, Maynard and Donnie Davenport; and two sisters, Cathy Deal and Mary Boggs.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory: two daughters, Connie Wilson (Keith) and Kathy Moody; 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; one sister, Liddie Lewis; one brother, Smith Davenport, Jr; and several nieces and nephews.

JOHNSON CITY - Mrs. Mary Lou Boggs, age 88, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.

Mrs. Boggs was born September 9, 1934, in Carter County, Tennessee and the daughter of the late Smith & Pearl Carter Davenport. She was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Maynard & Donnie Davenport, one sister, Cathy Deal, granddaughters, Kourtney Elizabeth Boggs and Jessica Kelly.

She was a Christian and attended Higher Ground Holiness Church in Johnson City.

Mrs. Boggs loved to play Bingo and Yahtzee and enjoyed cooking.

JOHNSON CITY - Anna Collins, age 77, of Johnson City, entered into heaven on Wednesday August 4th 2021. She was a loving mother, and grandmother. She loved her family with all her heart and they were all dear to her. Anna retired from Siemens in Johnson City after 25 years of service. She was a Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart, always praying for her family and friends. All of her life she was always looking to help someone in any way she could. Her favorite things were being together with her family, listening to preaching on Sunday mornings and of course being at the beach.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James J. Collins Sr. “Jimmy” and her parents David and Martha Campbell; brothers, Junior Campbell and Ralph Davenport.

Thelma Irene Stanton, age 87, of Butler, Tennessee, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 17, 2023, from the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Butler, Tennessee, to the late Wiley Thomas Hatley and Eliza Faye Isaacs Hatley on June 29, 1935.  Thelma loved being a homemaker.  She was a kind, loving, sweet, caring mother who loved her children and grandchildren.  She was always happy and always wanted to feed you. Thus, she loved gardening, canning and cooking.  Thelma loved talking to her friends and neighbors and was known to be fair and considerate to everyone.  Thelma was a member of Elk River Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Joseph Stanton; daughter, Judy Stanton; son, William Daryl Stanton; brothers, J.D. Hatley, William Thomas Hatley, Dave Hatley, Dewey Hatley, and sister, Gerd Hatley. David W. Hatley, age 77, of Butler, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Thursday, September 27, 2018. David was born in Carter County, TN on July 18, 1941, to the late Wiley Thomas Hatley and Eliza Fay Isaacs Hatley. In addition to his parents, David is also preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Maybell Isaacs Hatley, two brothers, JD Hatley and Tom Hatley, and a sister Geraldine Hatley.

David was a carpenter by trade but was also active in the Elk Mills Fire Department for many years. David was a member of Elk River Baptist Church in Butler, TN.

Those left to cherish David's memory are his two sisters Thelma Stanton and Erlene "Dean" Garland of Butler, TN; two brothers, Bud Hatley of Mountain City, TN and Dewey Hatley of Butler, TN; two daughters Melissa and husband James Morefield of Butler, TN, Debbie and husband Steve Roark of Mountain City, TN; two sons Kevin and wife Glenda Hatley of Elizabethton, TN and David Hatley, Jr. of Ocala, FL; eleven grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and special friend Ernie Potter of Butler, TN.

We are saddened to announce the passing of Kathleen Baker, age 96, on Monday, February 6, 2023 at Mountain City Care Center. She was born on November 22, 1926 to the late Luther Ogden Wolfe and Reta Ethel Dugger Wolfe. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John D Baker and brother, Bill Wolfe. She loved gardening and was a member of the Bakers Gap Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Kathleen attended and later taught at the Watauga Academy.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Lisa Main (Ray) of Mountain City; son, Johnny C Baker (Nita) of Butler; four grandchildren, Jonathan Baker of Elizabethton, Jason Baker of Mountain City, Sawyer Main of Mountain City and Jeff Baker of Butler; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephew, Teresa McClain (Joe) of Florida, Joan Anderson of VA and Jimmy Moody, of Butler and her special friend, Jessica Baker also survives.

Mr. Darrell, J. Greene, 81, of 1684 Draft Road, Butler, Tenn., passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Mountain Home VA Center, following a brief illness.

He was born March 14, 1927 in Bakersville, N.C.

Mr. Greene was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church, Chairman of the Deacon Board, choir director, and he sang soprano for the Sugar Grove Quartet for 40 years. He was an Army veteran and retired from Burlington Industries in 1986. He was a farmer and loved gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ola Mae Greene; one daughter, Lois Greene and husband, Kenneth, of Vilas, N.C.; one son, Arthur Greene and wife, Daphne, and one grandson, Timothy Greene and wife, Laura, all of Butler, Tenn.; three brothers, John David Greene and wife, Betty Lou; and Roy Greene and Bobby Greene; and one sister, Loetta Bright, all of Butler, Tenn. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles S. Greene and Tina Dugger Greene.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, from Sugar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Greene, the Rev. Doug Ranshaw and the Rev. Ray Sorrels officiating. Music was provided by Sugar Grove Choir and Willow Valley Choir.

BUTLER - Mr. John David Greene, age 88, of Butler, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Waters of Roan Highlands following an extended illness.

John David was born in Bakersville, North Carolina to the late Charles Spurgon and Tina Dugger Greene. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Darrell Greene and Roy Greene and two grandsons, Keith Smith and Freddie Greene.

John David lived most of his life in Johnson County, Tennessee where he worked as a farmer, carpenter and logger. He loved being outdoors with his dogs. John David enjoyed the company of family and friends and discussing the Bible with them. He loved his church, Hope Christian Fellowship and all its members. He knew his Bible and loved talking about it and God's love.

John David was a United States Navy Veteran.

Jennie Lee Steiner, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Bristol Regional Hospital. Jennie was born on January 21, 1937 to the late Thomas Wilburn Ward and Vada Dugger Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Steiner Jr; grandchildren, Nicolette Miller, Joshua Steiner, and ten siblings. Jennie worked as a hospital aide for over 28 years in Fort Myers, Florida. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and reading. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughters, Connie Jones of Mountain City, Treshia Steiner of Cape Coral, FL; sons, Francis Steiner IV of Mountain City, Stephen Steiner (Leslie) of Cape Coral, FL, James Steiner (Stephanie) of Murfreesboro; brothers, Thomas Ward, Earl Ward (Kathy); eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Allie Beatrice Eames, age 78, of Mountain City, TN, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born July 19, 1938 to the late Thomas Wilburn Ward and Vada Ruth Dugger Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Allie worked in the restaurant business for many years before her retirement.

Survivors include sisters: Jennie Steiner and Willie Dickens, and brothers; Thomas Ward and Earl Ward. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

It was Allie's wish to be cremated with no formal service being held and for her cremated remains to be interred at Bel Air Memorial Gardens in Bel Air, MD.
