    Sallie Cress, 79, died Friday, June 22, at her home following a long illness.
    She has been a member of Valley View Methodist Church since childhood.
    Survivors are one brother, A. A. Cress, Mountain City and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held June 24, 1945 at the Valley View Church by Rev. W. B. Robbins and Rev. A. E. Browne. Burial was in the Phillippi Cemetery.

    Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Valley View Church with Rev. Wesley Cook and H. T. Mabry officiating.
    Burial was in Phillippi cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Bob Rankin, Maurice Farris, Otis Gentry, Tom Smythe, R. D. Ramsey, Wilby Phillippi, Frank Murphey, Aubrey Shupe.

    JOHNSON COUNTAIN KILLED AS AUTO OVERTURNS ON ROAD
    MOUNTAIN CITY – Funeral services were planned here today for Walter Cress, 27, who was killed yesterday morning when the car he was driving overturned, throwing him against a tree, bringing instant death. Paul Shoun and Miss Marjorie Miller, two other occupants of the car, were uninjured in the accident, which occurred on the Mountain City-Trade highway.
    After turning over the car rolled down an embankment into a creek. Cress suffered a broken neck and bruises about the head.
    He is survived by his wife and one child, Mrs. W. A. Cress, his mother; four brothers, Worley, Claude and Eugene of Mountain City, and Clarence of Greeneville; two sisters, Lucy Cress and Mrs. Ray War.

    MOUNTAIN CITY - Mary J. Swift, age 76, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

    She was born on April 30, 1943, in Mountain City, Johnson County, TN to the late Ray W. Ward and Nora Lee (Cress) Ward. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Theodore 'Ted' Shores.

    Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 48 years, Jack Swift; sister, Nancy Carol Shores; special friend of many years, Margaret Cress; niece, Debbie Flanders and husband John of Sherman, TX; nephew, Greg Swift and wife Sheila of Powell, TN; cousins, Roy, David and Richard Snyder, Hal and Wayne Ward, Bob Miller, Margaret Myers and Albert Cress, and many more special friends and neighbors.

    Mary was a member of First Christian Church and of the Joy Sunday School Class. She was past President of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #61 and past Secretary of the Johnson County Historical Society. In her spare time, Mary loved to go shopping.

    The family will receive friends from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Mountain City Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Minister Dwayne Dickson officiating. Music will be provided by Janice Ashley, pianist and Nancy Davis, soloist. Private family graveside and entombment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pallbearers are Bill Ward, Mark Ward, Wayne Ward, Richard 'Dick' Snyder, Joe Ray and Bo Henson. Honorary pallbearers are Roy Snyder, Scott Pyler, Bob Miller, David Snyder and David Timbs.

    NEWPORT – Roy Daniel Nave, 80, Newport, TN was ushered into the presence of the Savior he loved on November 18, 2015.

    He was born in Doeville, Tennessee to the late Nick & Anna Opal Stalcup Nave on December 25, 1934. The family moved from Tennessee to Oregon in 1947, and then to Mishawaka, Indiana in 1950, where he lived until May 2015. He was a 1953 Graduate of Mishawaka High School and a lifelong employee of Ball Band, until his retirement in 1990. He married Marilyn Patricia (Pat) Scott on October 30, 1954, faithfully serving her as godly husband and care giver for 61 years.

    Roy placed his faith in Jesus Christ in 1957, and lived as a man of God. He was loved and respected by people in Indiana, Tennessee and in Texas, where he & Pat wintered for 17 seasons.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Myretha Arnold.

    He is survived by his loving wife Pat and son: Daniel (Cheryl) Nave of Newport, TN; Granddaughters: Andrea (Dave)Johnson of Grand Rapids, MI; Sara (Jon)Fisher of Hopkinsville, KY; grandson: Matthew (Carrie) Nave of Howard City, MI: sister: Nikkie Mae (Chuck) Buck of Mishawaka, Indiana, a sister-in-law: Mary Lou (Kenny) Myers of Niles, MI; eight great grandchildren he loved intensely; his friend of 30 years, Larry (Candy) Desimone of Osceola; and Texas snowbird friend, Steve (Irene) Hauersperger of Cerro Gordo, IL.

    A time of greeting and condolence will be held at Northport Baptist Church, 488 Duncan Street, Newport,Tn. on Friday, November 20, 2015, from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by a memorial service led by Pastor Kris Brady.
