Lawson Bowers, 64 years of age, died at his home on Blue Springs branch this morning at 5:30 following an illness of six months.
Survivors are six daughters and three sons, one brother and one sister. Three children are dead and his wife.
Funeral services will be held at the home at ten o'clock Saturday morning and will be in charge of the Rev. D. C. Patrick and the Rev. James Fair.
Interment will be in the family cemetery.

Mrs. Susie Bowers Anderson, 99, of 810 North Roan Street, Elizabethton, formerly of the Blue Springs Community, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Lawson and Mary Williams Bowers and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alf Anderson; a son, Dallas Anderson and a daughter, Doris Grindstaff. Mrs. Anderson was the oldest member of the Blue Springs Christian Church. She loved to work in her garden and she enjoyed quilting.

She is survived by a daughter Mary Anderson; a son, Carl Anderson, both of Elizabethton; three grandsons, Albert Grindstaff, MO; Gerald Grindstaff and Larry Grindstaff, both of Elizabethton; three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Anderson will be conducted on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 7:30 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Mr. Richard Thomason, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jill Kemp.

The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:00 -7:30 PM on Thursday, or at the home, 810 North Roan Street, at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mike Honeycutt, Fain Bowers, Ernest Bowers, Terry Oliver, Sherrell Bowers and Gayle Oliver. Arnold Gladys Wilson Arnold, 83, 2138 Highway 91, Elizabethton, died Monday, February 7, 2005, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Arnold was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Hobert and Bell Loudy Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Arnold, March 20, 1998.

Mrs. Arnold was a member of Blue Springs Christian Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Wesley Largent, and two grandsons, Markeus Largent and Trent Largent, all of Elizabethton; a brother, George Wilson, Elizabethton; and three sisters, Ellen Canter, Ruth Nave and Josie Canter, all of Elizabethton. The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 10, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Richard Thomason, Minister, and Rev. Clarence Phillips officiating. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late John and Connie Wilson Markland.
Ruby was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Bice Sr.; two sisters, Hattie Wilson and Mary Ruth Markland; and three brothers, Ray, Carl and Johnny Jack Markland.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Rudy A. and Lottie Bowers Carden.
Mrs. Bowers was a homemaker. She was of the Pentecostal Faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, who died February 9, 2008; a daughter, Margaret Bowers; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Rebecca Bowers; a special niece, Penny Rosenboro and her husband Preston; one great-niece, Ashton Rosenboro, and one great-nephew, Jayden Rosenboro; a special friend, Kenven Richardson and wife Becky; and a host of friends and neighbors.

Mr. Carden was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Rhudy and Lottie Bowers Carden. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Arthene Carden, September 28, 2000.
Mr. Carden had made his home with his daughter for the past year. He was former employee of Tennessee Chair Company and retired from the Carter County School System as a custodian at Unaka High School and Hunter Elementary School. He was a member of the Old Horseshoe Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Preston Rosenboro, Bristol; a sister, Eliza Bowers, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Ashton Rosenboro and Jayden Rosenboro; and a special friend, Ella Louise Nidiffer. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Carl J. Anderson, 79, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at his residence. Carl was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Alf and Susie Bowers Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Grindstaff, and a brother, Dallas Anderson.
Carl had worked as a cook at Dino's Restaurant in Elizabethton for over 50 years. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith and liked watching wrestling and eating out with his sister.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Mary Anderson, of the home, and two nephews, Larry Grindstaff, of Elizabethton, and Albert Grindstaff and wife Bizzie, of Missouri.
A service to celebrate the life of Carl J. Anderson will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, September 8, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Richard Thomason officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence of his sister at other times. Fred Carl Bowers, age 84, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, Fred was the only son of the late Roby DeWitt Bowers and Myrtle Campbell Bowers. Fred lived in Elizabethton his entire life. As a boy, he was active in MYF and was a member of Boy Scout Troop #30, achieving the Silver Award in the 1940s. A 1955 graduate of Elizabethton High School, Fred was the photographer for the high school yearbook and was voted “Most Artistic.” His passion for photography blossomed, and he went to work for the Elizabethton Star during his junior year. Following his graduation, he accepted a position with Coleman’s Studio, where he worked for 44 years until his retirement in 1999. Over the years, he photographed thousands of school children, hundreds of brides, sporting events of every kind, and countless studio portraits for families and individuals. Fred’s gift of seeing the best in everyone is evidenced in his work. He paid forward what his mentors taught him as he trained numerous young photographers along the way. His photography was recognized by his peers with many awards over the course of his career. Fred played trombone in the Elizabethton High School band, where he met a young clarinet player named Mary Ruth Hathaway. On their second date, he introduced her to his mother as his wife. The rest, as they say, is history.
Fred was a charter member of the Elizabethton chapter of the Order of DeMolay. He was a fifty-year member of Dashiell Lodge #238, Free and Accepted Masons; Past Worthy Patron of Sycamore Chapter #163, Order of the Eastern Star; former member of the Advisory Board of the Order of Rainbow for Girls, Elizabethton #71, and a recipient of the Grand Cross of Color. He was a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) for many years. Fred was a faithful member of Elizabethton First United Methodist Church; he and Ruth had returned to the first church they attended as newlyweds. He was delighted to be a “Pop” to his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. A talented cartoonist, he created personalized, hand-drawn “Pop cards” for his family and close friends for all occasions of note.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by one son in law, Noel Muhn, who passed away on December 19, 2021.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Hathaway Bowers. Three daughters: Deborah & Larry Gouge; Betsy Bowers; and Roberta Muhn. Five grandchildren: Justin & Elizabeth Muhn; Dr. Jamis Gouge & Dr. Veronica Sudekum Gouge; Captain Daniel Muhn & Staff Sergeant Kendall Muhn; Jerran C. Gouge; and Brittney Muhn Tapp & fiancé Alex Lancaster, IV. Three great granddaughters: Kylee Muhn, Bella Tapp, and Keri Muhn.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at First UMC of Elizabethton on Thursday, February 24, at 6:00 PM with Reverend Raymond Amos Sr officiating. Donald F. Bowers, age 74, passed away December 21, 2021 at Holston Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Bowers was the son of the late Ethel Bowers of Elizabethton TN. Mr. Bowers is survived by his wife Rena Bowers, two step-children Keith Rice and wife Tina, and Tina Balthis and husband Buck. Four grandchildren Aleigha, Amy,Mark and Trey. Seven great-grandchildren Hunter, Faith Ann, Colton, Lucus, Kaeson, Everleigh and Victoria. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday December 10,2022 at Bethany Baptist Church 162 Bethany Church Rd. Jonesborough, TN.37659. Visitation is from 2:00pm-3:00pm and the service will be from 3:00pm-4:00pm. Rev. Ed McClain will be officiating and the music by Kelly Anderson.

He was born in Elizabethton on July 1, 1950 to the late Hoover and Rada Williams. He was a retired mechanic. He loved working on cars and lawn mowers. He enjoyed playing music and singing with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lynice Ritchie, and a daughter, Leca Bailey.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Williams, daughter, Reca Hazelwood, son, Jeff Williams, brother, Jessie Williams, sister, Patricia Carden, and brother, Richard Williams, all of Elizabethton. His grandchildren include Britney Taylor, Christopher Campbell, Nicholas Williams, Autumn Williams, Aliana Williams, Charlie Williams, Joseph Campbell, Summer Brock, Brandon Oliver, Skyler Campbell and Lexi Oliver; and a host of nieces and nephews and a long list of great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will assemble for a celebration of life at Moore’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church on February 6. Services will start at 6 p.m. with Rev. Willie Campbell.

ELIZABETHTON - Richard Gale Williams, age 62, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at his residence.

Richard was born in Elizabethton to the late Hoover and Rada Peters Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Herbert Williams and Lynice Ritchie.

Richard was a graduate of Unaka High School and had worked for Grady’s Drycleaners in Johnson City for many years, also, he helped open and worked at Tri-Cities Wholesale Tobacco Store #1 in Boones Creek. Richard was once a member of the Carter County Rescue Squad. He also drove a school bus for Carter County bus garage and did transporting for the Norfolk Southern Railroad Company in Bristol. Richard was of the Christian faith and attended Pleasant Beach Baptist Church.

Richard loved to sing, loved a good joke and announced local wrestling events/ E.C.W. and others. He also enjoyed working the old scoreboard for Nascar at BMS races. Richard also sang with different groups both gospel and country. Richard was a band booster member for several years for the Betsy Band in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He also enjoyed camping at Little Wilbur and Roan Mountain campground. Richard had also coached a girls’ softball team junior league for Stacey’s Carpet during the years of 1985 - 1987.

Those left to cherish his many wonderful memories include his fiancé, Helen Harris, of the home; his children, Richard Shane Williams and wife Jessica, of Unicoi County, Heather Diane Williams and fiancé Kenneth Harrison II, of Johnson City and daughters-to-be, Heather Reed and Melissa Landry; his special friend/ brother, Danny Simmons, Tommy Addair, Randall Chapman, Earl and Jaye Hattan; eleven grandchildren, Hannah, Olivia, Kelsey, Kenneth III, Elijah, all from Johnson City, TN, Steven and Salym, of Elizabethton, Brooklynn, Charlie, Jonas, all of Kingsport and Betsy, of Virginia Beach, VA; a great granddaughter, Annabelle; and two siblings, Patricia “Trish” Carden and Jessie Williams. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

Gerald S. Grindstaff, 65, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, on Monday, April 17, 2017, at Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Grindstaff was born in Elizabethton and was the son of the late James B. and Doris Anderson Grindstaff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathaleen Grindstaff.
Those left to cherish his memory include two brothers, Albert Grindstaff and his wife, Teresita, of Missouri, and Larry Grindstaff of Elizabethton; and an aunt, Mary Anderson, Elizabethton, who was also his best friend and caregiver. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Grindstaff enjoyed listening to music and to ballgames. He was a loving brother and nephew who will be missed by his family.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Grindstaff will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 21, in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Richard Thomason, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from friends and family. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton for all the love and care shown to Mr. Grindstaff and his family.
