    ELIZABETHTON — Mrs. Ossie Deloach Davenport, 88, 122 Old Charity Hill Road, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at her residence after a lengthy illness.

    Mrs. Davenport was a Carter County native and a daughter of the late Bob and Minnie Helton Deloach.

    She was a member of East Side Freewill Baptist Church.

    Mrs. Davenport was formerly employed by Hermitage Health Care Center as a certified nursing assistant. She also was a part-time antique dealer.

    Mrs. Davenport was preceded in death by one son, Harold Davenport; two daughters, Margie Davenport Coleman and Alice Yvonne Davenport; two brothers, Emmett Deloach and Robert Deloach; one half brother, Frank Deloach; two half sisters, Eva Helton and Ethel Troxell; and one great-granddaughter.

    Survivors include her husband, W.E. “Frank” Davenport; two sons, Glen Davenport, Erwin, and Bobby Davenport, Elizabethton; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

    Carl Hicks, age 96, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
    Carl was a native of Carter County and the son of the late John H. and Millie Hardin Hicks.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers.
    Mr. Hicks was retired from North American Rayon after 42 years of service. He was the oldest active member of Doe River Baptist Church and was a life member of VFW Post 2166. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in the 170th Field Artillery in World War II.
    Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ola Hicks, of the home; a sister, Geraldine Pierce, Hixon, TN; a daughter, Kathy Hicks, of the home; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Kenny Jones also survive.
    A service to honor the life of Mr. Carl Hicks will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Herman Crumley, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Sue Hamm. Friends and family are welcome to call at the funeral home between the hours of 8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., prior to the service on Friday.
    The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
    The family would like to extend a special thanks to the ICU Staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, for their loving care and also to Dr. Jonathan Bremer and his staff.

    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late John Frank and Ina Fair DeLoach. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 47 years of service. Mr. DeLoach was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church and the Darold White Sunday School Class. He was an avid Sportsman.

    He was preceded in death by a son: Henry Walter DeLoach, September 29, 1973; and by a brother and a sister.

    Survivors include his wife: Marie Holden DeLoach; Two Daughters and Sons-In-Law: JoAnn & Roger Odom & Teresa and R.L. Hambrick, all of Elizabethton; a Son & Daughter-In-Law: William Howard DeLoach Jr. and Kathy, Ridgeville, South Carolina; Nine Grandchildren: Dale Odom, Chris Hambrick, Remetha Loving, Keith Hambrick, Bonnie Peters, Rebecca Malone, Kelly Chapman, Eddie DeLoach and Heath Honeycutt; 15 Great Grandchildren; An Aunt: Edna Pope, Atlanta, Georgia; several nieces and nephews; a special Hunting Buddy: Michael Miller.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Elmer Carter and Rev. Nick Bradshaw officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 2:50 p.m. Monday, will be: Dale Odom, Chris Hambrick, Keith Hambrick, Michael Miller, Eddie DeLoach, Freddie Bradshaw, Van Fair and Johnny Fair. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dr. Todd Whitaker and the Darold White Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday in the Funeral home.     Carroll Glen Davenport, age 79, 123 DeArmond Place, Erwin, went home to be with the Lord at 5:56 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013, in Franklin Woods Community Hospital following a short illness. He was born in Carter County, a son of the late William Eckart and Ossie Deloach Davenport. Mr. Davenport was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He never met a stranger. Mr. Davenport lived his life to the fullest and loved the trucking industry. He began his trucking career of 67 years when he was 12 years old working for his father at the W.E. Davenport Trucking and Sons. He was still working and doing what he loved most and was presently employed with Duncan Mechanical. Mr. Davenport was known by all his trucking friends as "Snowman." He was awarded the Golden Achievement Award for over 50 years of service in the trucking industry from the American Truck Historical Society. Mr. Davenport was a loving husband, daddy and papaw. He was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church and attended Southside Freewill Baptist Church. Other than parents, Mr. Davenport was preceded in death by two brothers: Bobby Joe Davenport and Harold Davenport; and by one sister, Margie Coleman. He is survived by devoted wife of 28 years, Tina Davenport, a son, Keith Davenport and wife, Charlene, a daughter, Vickie Leonard and husband, Gary, all of Elizabethton; a stepson, Randy Rice and wife, Stephanie, and a stepdaughter, Pam Turner and husband, Rick, all of Erwin; one granddaughter: Brittany Rice; two step grandchildren: Lucy Hunigan and Ethan Bailey, all of Erwin; two special pets: Chico and Bandit. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of the second and third floors of Franklin Woods Community Hospital. A celebration of life service remembering the life of Mr. Davenport will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel.     Mr. Bobby Joe Davenport, 69, Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at his residence.

    Mr. Davenport was the son of the late W.E. Frank "Red" and Ossie Deloach Davenport and was a native of Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathy Davenport, a brother, Harold Davenport, a sister, Margie Coleman, brother-in-law, Edgar Coleman, his father-in-law, Jady Fritts and a brother-in-law, Malcolm Fritts.

    Mr. Davenport was the retired owner/operator of Davenport and Sons Trucking, a business he was in all of life. He was a drag racer and broke the world record and still holds that record for the fastest time at the AHRA Spring-Nationals at the Bristol International Dragway, Prostock Division; a record he had held since June 6, 1969. He was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church.

    He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Phyllis Fritts Davenport, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Danny Royston, Limestone; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Beverly Davenport, Elizabethton; a brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Tina Davenport, Erwin; his mother-in-law, Fay Fritts; brother-in-law, Kenneth Fritts; a sister-in-law and her husband, Helen and Harold Huffine; three grandchildren, Devin Trivette, Limestone; Kayla and Bobby Davenport, Elizabethton and special friends, Shon Blevins and Gail Watson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    The funeral service for Mr. Davenport will be conducted on Friday, April 10, 2009, at 8:00 PM at the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with Rev. Doug Hardin and Rev. James Henson officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:00 — 8:00 PM Friday prior to the service and at the residence at other times.

    The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at 10:00 AM in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Gregory "Buzz" Lewis, Josh Atkinson, Keith Davenport, Frankie Coleman, Dan Ornduff, Chris Roberson, Harold Huffine and Allen Smith.     Billy Joe Bowling, 82, of Indianapolis, Ind., formerly of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016, from a lengthy illness. Joe was the son of the late Herman and Mary Bowling. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Bowling, and a brother, Sonny Bowling.
    Joe attended Englewood Christian Church. He retired from the Elizabethton Star Newspaper where he served many years as the sports editor.
    In addition to being sports editor, Joe had served as a newspaper carrier, a photographer, reporter, and a brief stint from 1979 to 1982 as editor of the Elizabethton Star. He was well-known in the community, having served as Director of the Carter County Boys Club and as a director of the Elizabethton Housing Authority board. He was an avid Elizabethton Cyclones fan. Joe graduated from Elizabethton High School, where he played football.
    In 2012 he was named to the Carter County Sports Hall of Fame for his 40-years plus as a sports writer.
    He was also a supporter of the Elizabethton Parks and Rec boxing program during years past. Joe coached many ball teams from Little League to Boys Club teams.
    Joe is survived by three sons, Mike Bowling and wife Lisa of Indianapolis, Mark Bowling and wife Christine of Kingsport, and Matt Bowling and wife Sarah of Johnson City; seven grandchildren, Joe Bowling and wife Mary, Josh Bowling and wife Amanda, Jake Bowling and wife Kendra, and Jordan Bowling, all of Indianapolis, Chris Bowling and wife Krissy of Elizabethton, Craig Bowling of Elizabethton and Zoe Bowling of Kingsport. He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Larry Bowling and Bob Bowling, and two sisters, Kathy Smith and Brenda Hawks, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    His family will gather in Indianapolis to celebrate his life and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Tennessee for family and friends

Brenda was born in Elizabethton to the late Herman C. Bowling and Mary Evelyn White Bowling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Sonny Bowling and Joe Bowling.
    Brenda was a homemaker and a member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church, although she attended Little Doe Freewill Baptist Church. She loved her kindle, watching MASH, Andy Griffith, Gunsmoke, the Game Show Network and most of all she loved her grandchildren.
    Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 43 years, Albert Daniel Hawks Jr., of the home; two daughters, Michelle Bailey and husband Matthew of Greeneville and Beth Wheeler and husband Matthew of Elizabethton; one son, Albert Daniel Hawks III of Elizabethton; two grandsons, Tyler Stansberry and Alex Wheeler; two granddaughters, Sierra Bailey and Savana Bailey; one sister, Kathy Ann Bowling-Smith of Elizabethton; and two brothers, Bobby Gene Bowling and Larry Wayne Bowling, both of Elizabethton.     Larry “Bobo” Bowling went home to be in the presence of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at his residence at the age of 79. Larry was a lifelong resident of Elizabethton and was born December 9, 1942 to the late Herman C. Bowling and Mary White Bowling. In addition to his parents, Larry has been reunited with his loving wife, Sherry Lou Smith Bowling, who departed this life on September 10, 2013; three brothers, Joe Bowling, Bob Bowling and Sonny Bowling; and one sister, Brenda Hawks.
    Larry attended Elizabethton High School, during which time he was a four-year varsity player in Basketball and Track and Field. After graduating from Elizabethton High School in 1963, Larry first attended Hiwassee Junior College and then later Milligan College, continuing his athletic career in college. Upon completing his education, Larry dedicated his life to serving others. Between his active duty and reserve service, Larry served his country in the United States Army for 38 years. He returned home to Carter County and began a career as a teacher and coach. His teaching career lasted for just over 40 years. Larry began racking up accolades as a high school coach and a TSSAA official. He was part of several championship tournament teams, including the 2004 boys basketball State Champion team, the 2017-18 girls basketball state tournament team, and the 2018 girls softball state tournament team. Larry was honored by the TSSAA for serving 53 years as a TSSAA Football Official.
    Larry has spent his life demonstrating a deep devotion to his family, to his community, and to helping others.
    Those left to cherish and remember Larry’s legacy are his two children, Kevin (Ashley) Bowling of Jonesborough and Heather (Eric) Tester of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Payton Tester and Paisley Bowling; his sister, Kathy (Mike) Smith of Elizabethton; his favorite brother-in-law, Eddie Smith of Elizabethton; and his favorite sister-in-law, Vickie Smith of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and church family also mourn his loss.

    ELIZABETHTON — Sonny Lee Bowling, age 63, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, from the Johnson City Medical Center from injuries sustained in an accident.

    Sonny was a native of Carter County and was a son of the late Herman Carl Bowling and Mary White Bowling.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a canine pal, Santa Fe Bowling.

    Sonny retired from the Elizabethton Electric System and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a member of the Tennessee Moose Association, where he attained the Fellowship Degree, which is the highest degree of the Moose. He loved to play golf and loved animals. Sonny enjoyed spending time with his family and special friends and music – He was Dena and Garrett's biggest fan.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Dena Layne Bowling, of the home; three sons, James Garrett Bowling, of the home, Aaron Travis Bowling and Timothy Wayne Mink, both of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Gage and Gunner Mink, of Elizabethton; three brothers, Larry Bowling and Bob Bowling, both of Elizabethton and Joe Bowling, of Philadelphia; two sisters, Kathy Smith and Brenda Hawks, both of Elizabethton; and his canine pals, Cocoa Bowling and Sweet Pea Bowling, both of the home.
