Survivors include five sons, Jerry Trivette of Banner Elk; Bob Trivette and wife, Eula, of Vilas; Tom Trivette and wife, Linda, of Lexington and James Trivette of Charlotte; one sister, Mrs. Clara Trivette; and one brother, Benjamin Hicks, both of Banner Elk. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Chester Trivette, a daughter, Linda Sue Trivette Cox; a granddaughter, Lori Ann Trivette; one brother and a number of sisters.

Funeral service held at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Richard Trivette and Rev. Delmar James. Burial in the Piney Grove Community Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Trivette was born May 11, 1921 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Andrew "Andy" and Susanna Presnell Hicks. She was a homemaker and member of Faith Baptist Mission Church.

Mrs. Trivette is survived by two daughters, Janice Coffey and husband, Howard, of Clemmons, and Betty Trivette of Lexington; four sons, the Rev. Richard Trivette and wife, Margaret, Dean Trivette and wife, Pauline, all of Banner Elk, Roy Trivette and wife, Connie, of Lexington, and Marvin Trivette and wife, Mary, of Banner Elk, in Watauga County; six granddaughters, Patricia Hurst and husband, Jim, of Bardstown, Ky., Rebecca Bivens and husband, Keith, of Banner Elk, Tammy Colbert and husband, Brian, of Vilas, Angela Scott of Lynwood, N.C., Kriston Jolly and husband, Thomas, of Lexington, and Stephanie Trivette of Banner Elk; four grandsons, Stevie Trivette of Banner Elk, in Watauga County, Mark Coffey of Clemmons, David Trivette and wife, Emily, of Port Richey, Fla., and Brandon Trivette of Banner Elk, in Watauga County; one brother, Ben Hicks of Banner Elk, in Watauga County; and a special niece and friend, Pearl Hicks, and great-niece, Joy Dickens, both of Banner Elk, in Watauga County. Eleven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lemmie Trivette; two grandsons, Calloway Paul Trivette and Timothy Dean Trivette; and 12 sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning, July 26, at 11 a.m. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state from 10 until 11 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Richard Trivette, the Rev. Mike Townsend and Pastor Joe Ingham. Burial will follow in the Trivette Family Cemetery.

Mrs. Pearl Teague, 93, formerly of 116 W. Unaka Avenue, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in the Lakebridge Health Care Center.

She was a native of Beech Creek, NC.

Mrs. Teague was born June 25, 1919, to the late Sherman and Hattie Dyer Presnell. She joined the Union Baptist Church and at an early age was baptized. Mrs. Teague also attended other local churches in the area. She was the last leaf on her family tree.

She enjoyed flowers, traveling and walking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis C. Teague; a son, Richard Teague; four brothers, Ira, Raymond, Ernest and Lloyd Presnell; two sisters, Bertha Presnell and Pina Gilley.

Survivors include a son, Stacy A. Teague and his wife, Kathryn, of Lawrenceville, GA; a daughter-in-law, Shenny Teague, of Johnson City; grandchildren, Darrell Teague, Melinda Teague Pickett, both of Durham, NC, and Bryan Teague, of Johnson City; great-grandchildren, Haley and Mason Pickett, of Durham, NC; also several nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be conducted Friday, May 17, 2013, with Rev. Gene Deaton officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park.

Mr. Perry Lee Presnell, age 86, of Perry Presnell Road, Banner Elk, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 26, 2020, in Lexington. Born June 13, 1933, in Watauga County, he was a son of Lewis and Cora Price Presnell. Perry was a member of Charity Baptist Church. He had many, many friends and one God. He loved to fellowship with people over a good meal, anywhere and anytime, sharing his love of the Lord. Mr. Perry enjoyed his life time career in carpentry and construction.

He is survived by his Daughter: Carol Langston and husband, Roger, of Lexington; Step-son: Dennis Presnell and wife, Betty, of Union, SC; and several Step-grandchildren: including Little Den. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife of 37 years: Bertha Ward Presnell; Sisters: Rosie Hopkins, Ella Reece and Novella Presnell; and Brothers: Andrew Jack Presnell and Richard W. Presnell.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Lee Reece.

The family received friends from 10 to 11:00 a.m. prior to services at Austin & Barnes. Graveside services followed at the Presnell Cemetery.

Mrs. Ruth Farthing Bunton, 85, of Elk Park, widow of Mr. Clyde Bunton, died Monday afternoon, November 6, 1995 at Life Care Center in Banner Elk.

She was born December 4, 1909 in the Green Valley community of Watauga County, a daughter of the late Joe and Ida Harmon Farthing. She was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, one brother and one sister. She is also survived by five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Services were Wednesday afternoon at Mount Gilead Baptist Church with the Rev Jerry McCory and the Rev Arnt Greer officiating. Burial followed in the Mount Gilead Church cemetery

Lula Eller Smith, age 89, of Banner Elk, NC passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Life Care Center in Banner Elk, NC.

She was born on March 22, 1930, in Avery County, NC, the 12th out of 13 children of the late Eugene Eller and the late Julia Trivette Eller. Lula worked for Glen Raven Mills and retired from Cannon Memorial Hospital, where she served as the Laundry Supervisor.

She was a longtime member of the Arbor Dale Presbyterian Church. Lula was a loving and kind woman who welcomed anyone, whether stranger, friend or family, into her home. In the true fashion of a Southern lady, no one ever left her home without either having or being offered a drink or eating a meal.

She was the matriarch of both the Eller family and the Smith family. Lula's family was very important to her and she loved everyone, with no exceptions. One of the highlights of her year was the annual Eller Family Reunion.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband: Frank Melvin Smith, Sr.; six Sisters: Kate Brewer, Mary Smith, Grace Goodwin, Margaret Thompson, Rachel Garner, Betty Jo Puckett; six Brothers: Cecil Eller, Gene Eller, Dean Eller, Pat Eller, Roland "Dutch" Eller, Carl Eller.

She was born on Nov. 13, 1931, in Avery County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Eugene Eller and the late Julia Trivette Eller.

Betty was a member of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Banner Elk and had retired from Cannon Memorial Hospital after many years working in the housekeeping department. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. Her happiest moments revolved around the holidays and birthdays, which brought her family together. Betty once said "Family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, bring me the most enjoyment in life."

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: William Puckett; five sisters: Kate Brewer, Mary Eller Smith, Grace Goodwin, Margaret Thompson and Rachel Garner; six brothers: Cecil Eller, Gene Eller, Dean Eller, Pat Eller, Roland "Dutch" Eller and Carl Eller.

Betty Jo leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters: Billie Jo (Bill) Frontz of Myrtle Beach, SC, Janet (Rusty) Trammel of Banner Elk, NC; Sons: Timothy Puckett of Banner Elk, NC, Todd (Judith Bowden) Puckett of Linville, NC; Sister: Lula Eller Smith of Banner Elk, NC; Grandchildren: Jessica (Byron) Clawson, Natasha (Glenn) Griffith, Sean (Jennifer) Puckett, Shane (Hailey) Puckett, Brandon (Michelle) Frontz, Kyle (Nicole) Trammel, Carly (John) Woods, Riley Puckett and 13 great grandchildren.

Services for Betty Jo Eller Puckett will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, from the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Rev. George Wright officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Bill Puckett Family Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 10.

Maxine Hodge Gagliano, 96, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 10, 2022, at Hillview Heath and Rehabilitation Center. She was one of 12 children born in Roan Mountain to the late James Fredrick Holsclaw and Susan Harmon Holsclaw.
Maxine spent the early part of her working years at Bemberg Corporation. She would later open a remnant shop with her sister Pauline. It was known as Yate’s Remnant Shop. After the death of her first husband, Maxine moved to Jacksonville, Fla., where she met her second husband, Michael Gagliano. After their marriage they decided to move to St. Augustine, Fla., where they would spend their lives together. She worked at The Perky Pelican Christmas Shoppe and volunteered at St. John’s Food Pantry. In the year of 2000, Maxine decided to move back to Elizabethton. She was a member of Eastside Christian Church. Maxine enjoyed crafting, gardening, cooking and music of all kinds.
In addition to her parents was preceded in death by husbands, Norman “Skeet” Hodge and Michael John Gagliano; son, Norman “Cotton” Hodge; daughter-in-law, Judy May Hodge; three sisters, Pauline Yates Shell, Ola Taylor Campbell and Betty Whitson Maupin; and four brothers, Charlie Holsclaw, Claude Holsclaw, Willie Holsclaw and John Holsclaw.
Those left to cherish her memory are her three sisters, Martha Laws Forbes of Johnson City, Juanita Pansock and Barbara Milsaps of Elizabethton; brother, Arthur Holsclaw of Elizabethton; cousin (who Maxine mentioned many times that he was like a brother), Wes Holsclaw (Jane); step-children, Joe Gagliano and Joyce Christopher. Six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Maxine Hodge Gagliano will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home. The family will receive friends between the hours of 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. The graveside service and committal will follow in procession to Happy Valley Memorial Park, Johnson City. Pallbearers will be selected by family and friends.

Willie Holsclaw, age 83, of Elizabethton, TN went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was the son of the late Fred and Susan Harmon Holsclaw. He retired from City of Elizabethton, and served as a consultant until present day. Willie was a member and elder, of 50 years at Elizabethton Church of Christ. He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and a big fan of the Elizabethton Cyclones. He loved to fish, hunt, golf, cook and spend time with his family.
Willie was preceded in death by his three brothers, Charlie Holsclaw, Claude Holsclaw and John Holsclaw; three sisters, Ola Campbell, Pauline Shell and Betty Maupin; sister-in-law, Donna Holsclaw; brother-in-law, Jim Maupin. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, of 63 years, Leota Holsclaw, of the home; two sons, Eddie Holsclaw, of Elizabethton and Jeff Holsclaw and wife Vanessa, of Unicoi; three grand-daughter’s, Jessica Trivett and husband David, Katie Rosario and Husband Danny and Summer Mosley and husband Christopher; two grandson’s, Noah Holsclaw and Josh Reifert; eleven great-grandchildren, Halle, Luke, Levi, Miles, Callie, Millie, Stella, Willa Mae, Selah, Nala and Jade; brother, John Arthur Holsclaw; four sisters, Maxine Gagliano, Juanita Pansock, Barbara Milsaps, all of Elizabethton and Martha Forbes, of Johnson City; two sister’s-in-law, Eula Mae Hodge and Dorothy Dean Oaks, both of Elizabethton; special nieces, Tammy, Kim, Susie, Bebe, Debbie, Annie, Teresa, Nancy and several other nieces and nephews also survive.
The graveside service and committal will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park.
