KANNAPOLIS — The Rev. Victor Lee Trivette, 88, of 1210 Desoto Ave., Kannapolis, died Monday, July 28, 2003, at NorthEast Medical Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Charity Baptist Church, Kannapolis. The Rev. R.J. Hammond, the Rev. Curtis Parker, and the Rev. Fenton Jones will officiate. Born Aug. 26, 1914, in Watauga County, he was the son of the late Maston P. Trivette and Nettie Mast Trivette. He was a retired Baptist minister having pastored for almost 60 years at 27 various churches in eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina, including Young Memorial Baptist, Roberta Baptist, Central Baptist, Eastwood Baptist and Odell Baptist churches here in the Cabarrus County region. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruby (Sally) Trivette, who died in 1996. Survivors include his 2nd. wife, Pansy Wensil Trivette; two sons, Gary Trivette and wife Lin, of Spring Hill, Fla., and Howard Trivette and wife Kay, of Concord; one brother, Earl Trivette, of Rominger; one sister, Ruby Presnell, of North Wilkesboro; one stepson, Doug Simpson and wife Rhonda, of Concord; one stepdaughter, Jeanette Leigh and husband, Houston, of Concord; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-granchildren.

Mr. Lennie Earl Trivette, 79, of Rominger Road, Banner Elk, died Sunday morning, May 8, 2005, at his home.

He was born Sept. 24, 1925 in Watauga County, a son of Maston and Nettie Mast Trivette.

Mr. Trivette was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He retired from food services at ASU and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Glenn Trivette; three daughters, Faye Watson and husband, Roy, of Fleetwood, Mary Stines and husband, Johnny, of Banner Elk and Della Trivette of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; three sons, Bennie Trivette and wife, Connie, Wayne Trivette and Paul Trivette and wife, Ruth, all of Banner Elk; one sister, Ruby Trivette of Wilkesboro; and twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Floy Warren; and five brothers, Victor, Raymond, George, Conley and Don Trivette.

Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Antioch Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Carl Wilson and the Rev. David Testerman. The body will lie in state at the church from 1-2 p.m. Military graveside rites and burial will follow at the Ward-Glenn Cemetery.

Mary Shull Moody, age 87, of 540 Calloway Road, Boone, the Foscoe Community, died January 20,2017 at Life Care Center of Banner Elk. Mary grew up in Valle Crucis, NC on the Shull Farm. Mary graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College. She married Charles Ray Moody and moved to Maryland. She retired from teaching and moved back to Foscoe in 1987. Mary and Ray adopted their niece, Juanita, and helped raise their three nephews Don, John and Paul.

She is survived by one (adopted) daughter, Juanita Moody Keehn and husband Terrence of Dunkirk, Maryland, two granddaughters, Brittney Schade of Dunkirk, Maryland and Casey Begley and husband Mat of Lusby, Maryland, one grandson, Kyle Schade of Dunkirk, Maryland, two nephews, Donald Moody and Carolyn of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and John Moody of Bend, Oregon, two great-granddaughters, Ayvah Begley and Kennedy Begley both of Lusby, Maryland, one great-grandson, Adam Foster of Dunkirk, Maryland and one sister, Jeanne Shull Church and husband James of Oxon Hill, Maryland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Moody, one nephew, Paul Moody, her father and mother, Ira Donald & Margaret "Boyd" Caudill Shull and one sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Shull Moody.

MOUNTAIN CITY — James Laymon 'Jimmy' Cress, age 70, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

He was born on November 29, 1944, to the late Laymon and Ruth Parsons Cress.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a son, Thomas James Cress; and a sister, Jill Cress.

Jimmy is survived by sisters, Joan Stout, Janet Payne and Martha Elvidge; brothers, Robert Cress and wife Joyce and Jack Cress and wife Diane; special friend, Annis Jessee; several nieces and nephews; his Sheltie Dog and pal, Brownie.

After graduating from Johnson County High School in 1962, Jimmy joined the United States Air Force, where he served for 4 years, during which time he was stationed at Loring AFB in Maine.

Following his military career, Jimmy moved back to Mountain City and attended ETSU, receiving a degree in Accounting. He was the Town of Mountain City Recorder from 1974-1977. He then went to work for D.K. Burke and Associates Accounting Firm of Johnson City, where he remained until his retirement in 2014.

Jimmy had a love and passion for his country and his fallen brothers and sisters. He located and published a directory of military veterans buried in Johnson County from WWI to present day. Jimmy was instrumental in placing US. Flags on their graves during Flag Day celebrations.

It was Jimmy's wishes to be cremated and that no formal services are held.

JOHNSON CITY - Barbara Jean Hundley, 83, Johnson City, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 18, 2021, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
Barbara was born in Johnson City to the late James and Ruby Truelove Willingham.
Barbara graduated from Science Hill High School in 1956 and went on to attend East Tennessee State University.
After attending ETSU, she married and moved to Lexington, Kentucky. She returned to Bristol, TN in 1962 where she raised her family until the fall of 1973. She then returned to Johnson City in 1974, where she started working at the First Tennessee Development District as an executive assistant until her retirement in 1999.
Barbara was a member of Central Baptist Church in Johnson City. She volunteered with various church activities, participated in the church choir, and was also a member of the JOY (Just Old Youth) Club.
Barbara was truly someone special, so kind and caring, and a blessing to everyone around her. We will miss her here on Earth, but we also know that she lived her life to the fullest. She travelled the world, loved her church family, and was always up for her next adventure. Barbara loved to read and work puzzles. She also loved watching golf on television and was always ready for college football in the fall. She enjoyed playing cards and Bunco with many of her close friends. Her strength and love for her family will always be admired and stands as a legacy for us all to follow.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by: her husband, Thomas H. Hundley; one brother, Jimmy Willingham; one niece, Amy Willingham; and one great-granddaughter, Kennedy Ryann.
Surviving relatives include: brothers, Lewis Willingham (Jenny Willingham), Kenneth Willingham (Glenda Willingham), and Charles Willingham (Jane Willingham); one son, Troy Dale Hundley (Debi Hundley); two daughters, Terry Lynn Henson (Perry Henson) and Tracy Layne Irvin (Randy Irvin); four grandchildren, Dustin Ray Henson, Leah Christine Henson Frazier (Jacob Frazier), Kaylie Raquel Hundley Bourgeois (Travis Bourgeois), and Drew Thomas Hundley; and two great-grandchildren, Brant Thomas Bourgeois and Isla Grey Bourgeois.

Mr. Trivett is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Anderson Trivett of the home; two sons, Robert "Bob" Trivett and wife Janet of Zionville, and James Trivett and wife Libby of Vilas; three granddaughters, Nancy Isaacs and husband Travis of Vilas, Bobbie Sue Hood of Zionville, and Emily Trivett of Zionville; two grandsons, Kevin Trivett and wife Jennifer of Vilas, and Robert Dale Trivett and wife Amy of Boone; two sisters, Geraldine Ward and husband Bob of Valle Crucis, and Ava Trivett of Boone, and two brothers, Bill Trivett and wife Peggy of Boone, and G.C. Trivett and wife Karen of Lenoir. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, two aunts, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma Jean Greene Trivett.

Mr. Bobby Gene Mast, son of the late Hoy Lee Mast and Elizabeth Pearl (Anderson) Mast, was born on June 24, 1931 in Sugar Grove, North Carolina. He attended public school in Cove Creek and at an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ by joining Evergreen Baptist Church in Trade, Tennessee where he was a dedicated member. After moving to Maryland, he attended Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Rising Sun, Maryland.

Bobby Mast was united in marriage to Violet Mae Robinson on December 19, 1952. Their union of 64 years, was filled with many blessings including three children. After a 36 year career with the Chrysler Corporation in Newark, Delaware, he retired in 1989.

His integrity and devotion to family is recognized and appreciated by those who knew and loved him. Cherished memories include his stories of growing up in the Appalachian Mountains and childhood adventures with his younger brother Jackie. He peacefully departed this life on March 8, 2017 surrounded by family at his home in North East, Maryland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers William Mast, James Mast, Richard Anderson and Jackie Lee Mast.

His beautiful life will forever be cherished and remembered by his wife: Violet (Robinson) Mast and daughters: Barbara Davis and husband Leo of Troutdale, Virginia, Linda Miller and husband Jon of New Providence, Pennsylvania, and Cathy Rehmeyer and husband Wayne of New Freedom, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Jon Miller, Jr., Bobby Miller and wife Erin, Katelynn Allen and husband Jake, and Matthew Ray and wife Kayte; six great-grandchildren Summer Miller, Ashton Miller, Cooper Miller, Luke Allen, Rosie Quinn Ray and one more on the way. Also, two sisters: Jean Vines and husband Pete of Marion, Virginia and Norma Lee Kyte of Boone, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law: Evelyn Mast of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and Diane Anderson of Niceville, Florida. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation Services for Mr. Bobby Gene Mast will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Crouch Funeral Home in North East, Maryland. Funeral Service and burial will immediately follow the Visitation Service at the North East United Methodist Church Cemetery. After the services family and friends are invited to celebrate his life with a meal and fellowship at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church located at 35 Sylmar Road, Rising Sun, Maryland.

HENDERSON-J. Thomas McBride, 80, of Henderson, NC passed away Friday, November 16th, 2018 at The Granville House in Oxford, NC.

Born in Washington College, TN, he was the son of the late Gertha Henley McBride and Hal Tryon McBride. He graduated from Carson Newman College cum laude, obtained a Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Master of Theology from Duke University. Tom was pastor of White's Creek Baptist Church in Rockwood, TN from June 1958-1962. He was pastor of Mary's Chapel Baptist Church in Wake Forest, NC from August, 1962- June, 1966. He served as Chaplain at John Umstead Hospital in Butner from 1965-1970 at which time he began his career as director of Vance, Granville, Franklin and Warren county area mental health program. Tom retired in 1999. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Henderson where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and served as a deacon. He was chairman of the board of ACTS (Area Christians Together in Service) for several years. Tom loved his church, his family, his friends, his career and co-workers, the outdoors, mountains, woodworking, music, hiking, biking, horseback riding, traveling, and last but not least, desserts!

A service to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday at 2 pm at First Baptist Church in Henderson by Dr. Ronald S. Cava and Dr. Marion D. Lark. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall and at other times they will be at the home.

He is survived by his wife of 58.5 years, Rebecca Jane McBride; his daughter, Amy McBride Howie and husband, Jim; his son, Steven Scott McBride and wife, Shannon; four grandsons, Zachary Denson, Michael Denson, Alan McBride, Hayden McBride; one sister, Joy McBride Tubb and husband, Quenton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roby McBride and Jimmy McBride; and one sister, Bonnie McBride Calhoun.

LIMESTONE - Mr. Roby McBride, age 85, Limestone, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. McBride was born in Washington County and son of the late Hal Tryon & Gertha Henley McBride. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lee McBride and second wife, Eula Mae Payne McBride.

He was a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Mr. McBride was a United States Air Force Veteran having served during the Korean War. He was a Airplane Mechanic. He was an Electrical Engineer at TPI Corporation for 33 years and Solid Waste Manager for Washington County Recycling Centers.

Survivors include seven children, Sharon Thomas (Roger), Roger McBride (Pam), Teresa McBride, Ricky McBride, all of Limestone, Hal Mark McBride (Karen, Hickory, NC, Bobby McBride and Karen Yates, both of Kingsport; four step-children, Jerry Payne (Connie), Telford, Debbie Morrison (Steve) and Johnny Payne (Debbie), all of Johnson City and Janette Payne, Limestone; sister, Joy Tubb (Quentin), Kingsport; brother, John Thomas McBride (Jane), Henderson, NC; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

Mr. A C "Bud" Cress, 79, of Johnson City, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at NHC HealthCare in Johnson City.

Mr. Cress was a Johnson County native and the son of the late Clyde and Dorothy Payne Cress.

He was preceded in death by sons, Mark and Michael; and a brother, Allen Cress.

Mr. Cress retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1974. His overseas assignments were Germany, India, and Vietnam. He received three meritorious service medals, six commendation medals, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, five good conduct medals, and numerous other awards.

He also retired from the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in 1995, where he worked in the engineering service as an accountant.

Mr. Cress was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by: his wife of 33 years, JoAnn Snapp Cress; daughter, Cathy Cress Moore of Shreveport, LA; three sisters, Margie Halsey and Elsie Parsons of Hickory, NC and Paulette Morefield of Mountain City; mother-in-law, Lurlia Snapp; brothers-in-law, Wendell Snapp and Mike Snapp; special nieces, Christie Snapp Pohto, Shelley Snapp Mannering, and Lauren Snapp Waddill, all of Johnson City; niece, Donna Lipford of Concord, NC; and nephews, David Snapp, Daniel Snapp, Jack Pohto, and Andrew Clawson.

The Cress family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2015, in Morris-Baker Funeral Home.

Following the visitation, family and friends will proceed to Mountain Home National Cemetery for a 1 p.m. graveside service. Rev. Donald Page will officiate. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 will accord military honors.

Raymond Cress, age 82, of Mountain City, TN, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Mountain City Care Center. He was born on January 27, 1941 to the late Azel and Hazel Cress in Johnson County, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Cress and infant sister, Lois Ann Cress.

Raymond enjoyed woodworking, collecting knives, and tinkering with old cars, especially his ‘55 Chevrolet. He was a member of First Christian Church.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife, Carolyn Danner Cress; sons, Tommy Cress (Wanda) and Jamie Cress; grandchildren, Alisha Norris (Joey), Matt Cress (Kayla), Savanna Cress, Mychael Cress, and Brianna Cress; great-grandchildren, Cooper Cress, Dominic Kelley, Eli Norris, and Mason Galyean; sisters, Maxine Hall (Barton), and Carolyn Pardue; brother, Glenn Cress, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the Cress Cemetery with Danny Cullop to officiate.

Douglas Edward Cress, 78, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020 at his home. He was born on June 12, 1942 to the late Azel and Hazel Cress in Johnson County, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Cindy Guinn and Anette Cress.

Those left to cherish his memories include his sisters, Maxine Hall and husband Barton, Carolyn Pardue; brothers, Raymond Cress and wife Carolyn, Glenn Cress; grandson, Chad Guinn and several nieces and nephews.

The graveside service and burial was held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at the Cress Cemetery with friend Dick Stout officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Brandon James McCoy, age 33, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2019. He was born on May 25, 1986, to the late Junior Franklin McCoy II and Sandra Lynn Coffey.

Brandon, lovingly referred to as "Gimp" by some of his friends, was larger than life. He loved to make everyone he came in contact with smile and especially loved to make them laugh. He tried to find enjoyment in everything he did. He recently had a close friend get him a job at Shatley Paving, and despite his hard work, grueling hours, and working harder than any job he previously had; he was finally happy to have a job he looked forward to. Despite how tired he may have been, he always came home with a story to tell, to make his family laugh or something interesting about his day.

Brandon was a one of a kind friend to everyone he knew and especially loved being an uncle to his nephew, Ashtin. He was like an uncle to his young cousins, Xavier and Alan Lunceford III, and came to their defense regardless if they were around or not. Along with loving his new job and being around family, Brandon loved motorcycles, tractor and trailers, and all big trucks.

He was especially close his aunt Barbara Lunceford and his cousin Alan Lunceford Jr, who he looked up to and was more like a brother. Brandon had family and many friends that he was very close to throughout the years that will miss his presence here on Earth!

Other family members left to cherish his memories include his sisters, Christal Estep and husband Barney, Leslie Forrester and husband Shawn; brothers, Brian McCoy and wife Ashley Smith, Billy Jack Taylor and wife Susan; Aunt, Barbara Lunceford and husband Keith; several nephews including Ashtin McCoy, Jacob Estep, Lucas Estep; several cousins, aunts and uncles.
