The Will Of William DeLoach, Senior, 25 Mar 1746


William DeLoach, Senior, was the son of Michel DesLoges and Jane Griffith.


In the Name of God amen I William Deloach Sen.[Senior?] of the County of Brunswick in Virginia being in Perfect Health and strength of body and also perfect in mind and Memory thanks be to God for it but calling to mind the uncertainty of Transitory Life do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows

First I give my soul to Almighty God my creator trusting that through the merits of my every Blessed Redeemer I shall at the Last Day Receive a joyfull and Happy Resurrection and my body I desire may be decently Buried at the Discretion of my hereafter named Executor as to all the Temporal Estate that God has Blessed me with in this world my will and desire is that the same be disposed of as follows.

Imprimis my Will and Desire is that my loving wife Eleanor have and enjoy the Plantation whereon I now live together with the Lands thereunto belonging being five hundred acres for the term of her Natural Life during which term my desire is that she have and enjoy the said Land without any trouble or Molestation and after the end of her Natural Life my will and desire is that the said Land as aforesaid be given to my Loving son Francis Deloach & I hereby give the said Land to my foresaid son Francis Deloach & to the Heirs of her [his?] body Lawfully begotten forever

Item I give and bequeath to my foresaid Loving son Francis Deloach four hundred acres of Land lying in the County of Northampton in North Carolina on the south side of a swamp known by the Name of Wild Catt and do hereby give the said four hundred acres of Land to him my foresaid son Francis Deloach and to his Heirs and assigns forever

Item I give and bequeath to my foresaid Loving wife Eleanor two negroes, to wit, Izabell and a negro girl named Phillis and do give the said negroes to my foresaid wife to be at her own ordering and disposing forever Also my will and desire is that my foresaid Loving wife have and enjoy the command profit and labour of my negro boy Jack age about thirteen years during the term of her Natural Life and after her decease my will and desire is that the said negro Jack be hereby given to my foresaid son Francis Deloach and to his Heirs and assigns forever

Item I give and bequeath to my foresaid Loving son Francis Deloach Four negroes, to wit, a negro boy named Ceaser a negro Girl named Jenny and a negro girl named Hannah also one Negro boy Named Davy all which said Negroes I give and bequeath to my said son Francis Deloach and to his heirs and assigns forever

Item I give and bequeath to my Loving Daughter Martha now the wife of Harmon Hill two negroes, to wit, one negro boy named Jemmy and one Negro Girl Named Cate and do give the said Negroes to my forementioned Daughter Martha and to her Heirs or assigns forever also I give my said Daughter Martha a Chest Lock and Key being the same that is now known by being called my Chest

Item I give and bequeath to my Loving Daughter Anne now wife of William Hill three negroes, to wit, one Negro woman Named Sarah and one negro boy named Dick and one Negro Girl named Amy and do give the said negroes to my forementioned Daughter Anne and to her heirs or assigns forever Also I give my foresaid Daughter Anne two Cows and Calves to her and her heirs and assigns forever

Item I give and bequeath to my Loving Granddaughter Cela [Celia] Hill the Daughter [of] William Hill and my foresaid Daughter Anne one Cow and Calf to her my said Granddaughter and to her Heirs and assigns forever

Item I give and bequeath to my Loving Son William Deloach two negroes, to wit, one negro woman named Judah and one Negro Girl named Sarah and do give the said negroes to my forementioned son William Deloach and to his heirs and assigns forever and whereas I have already given my foresaid son William Deloach Lands and negroes in times past Equal in value or surmounting the value of what I have herein bequeathed to any one of my other Children and in fore time delivered the same to him I therefore think that I have given him the said William my foresaid son fully his share and to the intent he may not think himself forgotten now or neglected I have also added the foresaid two negroes and desire that he may have no further Claim to any part of my Estate and of this my Last Will and Testament I nominate Constitute ordain and appoint my forementioned Loving wife Eleanor and my foresaid Loving son Francis Deloach as my true and Lawfull Executors and after my Just Debts Legacies and Funeral Expenses is paid & discharged my will and desire is that all my Household Goods and Stock of all kinds be Equally divided between my said Executrix and Executor and hereby Revoking all other or former will or wills by me heretofore made do hereby acknowledge this my last will and Testament as Witness my hand this twenty fifth day of March one Thousand seven hundred forty six.

At a Court held for Brunswick County March 3, 1747 This Will was presented in Court by the Executors therein named who made oath thereto according to Law and the same was proved by the oaths of Hardy Hart and Man Dew Daughtery two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be Recorded and on the Motion of the said Executors Certificate was granted them for obtaining a probat thereof in due form they having given Security according to Law.
